Multidimensional Reporting

Dear experts,
I want to join an existing data model containing the following 2 data flows:
1) Content Flow from DataSource 1_CO_PAxx to Cube 0COPA_C01 (via Content InfoSource)
2) Customed Flow with Billing-Data to Cube from 2LIS_13_VDITM (via InfoSource and DSO)
- 0COPA_C01 contains (amongst others):
- - CO-Document Number (0ME_CO_DOC)
- - Reference document for COPA (0ME_REFDOC) containing the Bill-Number
- - 0CALDAY
- - Lots of Key figures
- SD Cube contains (amongst others):
- - Bill-Number (0BILL_NUM)
- - 0CALDAY
- - Lots of Key figures
- - Key Fields in DSO are 0BILL_NUM AND 0BILL_ITEM
How can I join the two cubes in a MultiProvider so that I get selected data from both cubes in one single row per CO-Document?
Example:
0COPA_C01 contains:
- 0ME_CO_DOC = "123"
- 0ME_REFDOC = "456"
- 0CALDAY = 28.04.2011
- KYF 1 = 111
- KYF 2 = 222
SD Cube contains:
- 0BILL_NUM = "456"
- 0CALDAY = 28.04.2011
- KYF 3 = 333
- KYF 4 = 444
In a Query I'd like to select by 0CALDAY = 28.04.2011
Expected Output:
0ME_CO_DOC, 0BILL_NUM, KYF1, KYF2, KYF3, KYF4
123,                    456,              111,     222,    333,    444
Thanks very much for any help
Patrick

Hi Patrick,
The requirement which you gave is not possible through multiprovider .
At best what you can do through multiprovider is that you take the identification of 0calday from both the cubes , and by using 'Constant selection property' in query designer , you can display key figures of both the cube in a single row but a time you can view characteristics of only one infoprovider in a single row.
As soon as you will bring the characteristic of the other infoprovider using drilldown, it will come in second row.
Another way to achieve your requirement will be using infoset, inner join on 0calday . but infoset has its own performance issues .
Kindly check the pdf in the below link for the above explanation :

Hope the reply was helpful.

  • Unable to generate Power View report out of Multidimensional report data source

    Hi,
I have created 'Report Data Source' connection to point to Multidimensional cube on Share Point site. But when I try to create a new Power View report out of it, I get following error message :
"An error occured while loading the model for the item or data source 'http://*********/PowerPivot Gallery/TestCube.rsds'. Verify that the connection information is correct and that you have permission to access the data source."
I can see following message in the <moreInformation> section :
<Source>Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services</Source><Message>Errors in the metadata manager. The current model can only be expressed when the client is requesting tabular view metadata with VERSION restriction of 2.0 or later.</Message>
Following are the System configurations :
    1) SSAS : SQL Server 2012 + SP2 (version 11.0.5058)
    2) Share Point 2013
As mentioned in one of the MSDN documents this configuration supports creation of Power View reports on multidimensional cube.
Can any one suggest what might be the issue?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Dipti,
According to your description, you get the connection failure when creating a power view report, and it throws information "Errors in the metadata manager. The current model can only be expressed when the client is requesting tabular view metadata with
VERSION restriction of 2.0 or later." Right?
Based on the error message, the issue should be the SSRS on sharepoint metadata version mismatch when sending to SSAS. There's someone mentioned in a similar thread that this issue can be solved by installing the full package of CU4 for SP1.
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/133558cd-ffc8-4608-ae45-fdff01770c6d/powerview-sql-2012-sp1-cu4-cannot-connect-to-dimensional-metadata-version-11?forum=sqlreportingservices
Even you already have SP2 installed, it supposed included CU1~CU9 for SP1. However, it has reported that SP2 doesn't fix all bugs which supposed to be fixed in CU for SP1.
SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 is available - but there's a catch!
So please re-install the full CU4 for SP1, restart the services and try again.

  • Two Dimensional  and Multidimensional

    Hi experts,
What is  Two Dimensional  and Multidimensional , i want exactly the diff between these two ? Generally we are saying that cube is Multidimensional  and ODS is Two Dimensional ?
I willl asssign points for ur valuable answers .

    Hi Nagireddy,
ODS is 2 dimensional format and it is not good to analyze the data in multi dimensional way.If you want to take flat reporting then go for ODS reporting. TheTwo dimensional report is similar to reporting on a table.ODS active table is a flat table like an r/3 table. Reporting is done on active table of ODS. other tables are for handling the deltas.
List of purchase orders for a vendor is two dimensional report whereas sales organisationwise, sales areawise, customerwise sales for last quarter and comparison with earlier quarters is a multi-dimensional report.
Cube is multidimensional formate and you can analyze data in different dimensions,so if your requirement is multidimensional report go for Cube.
    Hope this helps,

  • BW implementation for SAP HCM.

    Dear Experts
I am on a new project where they need to do HR Data Migration from PeopleSoft (Legacy System) into SAP ECC. The Client wants me to implement SAP BW (New Implementation) doing the following Functional Areas for SAP HCM:
    1. Personnel Administration
    2. Learning Solution Online
    3. Occupational Health & Safety
    4. Leave
    5. Time
    6. Allowances
    7. Position Management
    8. Organizational Structures
    9. Delegations
    10. Competencies
    11. Payroll
    12. CATS
    13. Business Intelligence
This is the scope of the project.
They were using just over 600 reports from the Legacy System.
Please let me know how long does it take developing an average of 25 Reports in each of the above mentioned areas (Area-wise) including ETL (Backend) Design in SAP BW? We are also looking at using Business Object Reporting Tools moving forwards.
What is the best order of implementation of above Functional Areas?
I am to start off with a SAP BW Solution Blueprint with As-Is, To-Be (Solution and Approach). Please let me know if there are better ideas.
Your time in very much appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Chandu

    Hi chandra,
You first need to understand the requirement of the business first because if there are 600 reports in legacy system you no need to presume that you need to develop 600 coz of the multidimensional report of BI you can club so many requirements in to one report. And you have to decide, up to what extent the Business content reports would be helpful. If the BC report meets the requirement it is as simple as that to activate and use it. But if the BC report wont meet the business requirement then you need to estimate the efforts to develop. Here you need to keep in mind that the standard extractors would be fine or need to enhance or need to go for Generic extraction. And also the HCM reports are big tricky and lot of data issues would rise. By considering all this you need to plan the days of work to complete all the reports.
I hope you understood what i am trying to explain.

  • Rporting on ods

    Hi Experts,
In what ways reporting on ODS is better than reporting on cubes.
    Thanks,
    Paiva .

    Hi Paiva,
ODS objects and InfoCubes can be used in reporting immediately. The
type of reporting differs in each case, however. In most cases, highly
selective reports are defined for ODS objects. For example, reports in
which all invoices are requested for a customer for a specific month. These
reports are often triggered using the report/report interface, coming from
a report defined on an InfoCube.Multidimensional reporting  mostly on an aggregated level  is carried out on Infocubes.
I guess above information may help you

  • Backend design

    Hi,
The scenario we have is that we have backend design done in two ways.
Let me explain both the structures completely.
1.We have 2 layers. In the 1st layer we have 3 ODS with full update and then on top of it 3 Infocubes with delta update from the underlying ODS's.Then the data from the cubes in the lower layer goes to the 3 cubes in the upper layer. And then a multiprovider is built on these upper layer cubes on which reporting is done.
    2. Here also we have 2 layers. In the lower layer we have 3 ODS with full update.then another layer with 3 ODS with delta update and then these 3 ODS's feed 3 cubes in the upper layer .rest all remain same.
in short,we have cubes with delta update in the first structure and ODS with delta update in the second structure.
Can some one please explain which of this is better and why?
    Please reply.
    Regards,
    Suchitra

    Hi,
As per your scenario we are using cube as the reporting layer using multiprovider in first case and ODS as the reporting layer in the second case. Now the diffrence in both cases can be categorized in 2 ways:
    1.Architecture Wise
    2.Reporting Wise.
    Architecture Wise:
we will have the following diffrences
one major difference is the manner of data storage. In ODS, data is stored in flat tables. By flat we mean to say ordinary transparent table whereas in a CUBE, it composed of multiple tables arranged in a STAR SCHEMA joined by SIDs. The purpose is to do MULTI-DIMENSIONAL Reporting
Another difference is In ODS, you can update an existing record given the KEY. In CUBES, theres no such thing. It will accept duplicate records and during reporting, SUM the keyfigures up. Theres no EDIT previous record contents just ADD. With ODS, the procedure is UPDATE IF EXISTING (base from the Table Key) otherwise ADD RECORD.
    Reporting Wise:
basically you use ods-objects to store the data on a document/item/schedule line level whereas in the cube you will have only more aggregated data (on material, customer ...). So you can do your reporting on the already aggregated data and if necessary do a detailed reporting on the ods object. Addionally ods objects will provide you a delta in case your datasource doesn't provide it. Just use overwrite mode for all (characteristics and keyfigures) in the update rules and the ods will take care about the rest
Infocubes are Multi dimensional objects that contains fact table and dimension table are available whereas ODS is not a multi dimensional object there are no fact tables and dimension tables. It consists of flat transparent tables.
In infocubes there are characteristics and keyfigures but in ods key fields and data fields. we can keep non key characteristics in data fields.
Some times we need detailed reports we can get through ODS. ODS are used to store data in a granular form i.e level of detail is more. The data in the infocube is in aggregated form.
from reporting point of view ods is used for operational reporting where as infocubes for multidimensional reporting.
ODS are used to merge data from one or more infosources but infocubes does not have that facility.
The default update type for an ODS object is overwrite for infocube it is addition. ODS are used to implement delta in BW. Data is loaded into the ODS object as new records or updating existing records in change log or overwrite existing records in active data table using 0record mode.
You cannot load data using Idoc transfer method in ODS but u can do in infocube.
you cannot create aggregate on ODS. you cannot create infosets on infocube.
    ODS objects can be used
when u want to use the facility of overwrite.if u want to overwrite nonkey characteristics and key figures
If u want detailed reports u can use ODS.
If u want to merge data from two or more infosources you can use ODS.
IT allows u to drill down from infocube to ODS through RRI interface.
Moreover to conclude reporting performance wise cubes are better as compared to ODS.
As per your requirement you can have ur model with various advantages and disadvantages as mentioned above.
Note:all these information is availabe in various threads and if you would have checked thoroughly you would have got it.

  • Multidimensional Connection Window When Using "New Report"

I have a PowerPivot workbook hosted in SharePoint PP gallery of two separate SharePoint installations. Using the PP Gallery capability "New Report", I can create a new Excel spreadsheet that uses this PowerPivot workbook as its data source. But
it only works on one SharePoint installation. On the other SharePoint installation, I get a "Multidimensional Connection" window I haven't seen before.
What is causing this window to come up, and what can be done to resolve this issue?

  • Multidimensional database and statistical reports

Firstly, my knowledge in this area is very fresh, and I have a case which I can't seem to find an exisiting similar problem. So I hope you people will bare with me.
At my company I have taken a task to implement a report system for an organization. The given to this organization is reports with a statistical data which is very similiar to OLAP reports, on a paper or excel sheets. What they do is that they make another new reports out of these reports, by adding new column or computed fields to calculate totals of example. They might also select different dimension for the same report to find out new indicators (indicator could be population, economy, etc..).
OLAP was a suggested sollution, but OLAP needs a relational database containing the raw data, and we can't capture the raw data from those original reports.
What did right now is that we went with our own model, it's simply a database model works like a tree structure. This database will be used to first extract the original report dimensions, indicators and their records. Later based on this database we'll create the multidimensional model out of it at runtime, then to produce the desired report after inputs from user. I'm trying right now to write a prototype in order to prove our model. What I can do right now is build the dimensions and their column groups from the model, In a JTable it is represented by nested column header. Now, the major problem is to retrieve the data/cells, and map these data in the table cells according to the columns and rows. I'm stuck and this doesn't seem to be easy taks specially based on the current database model.
I wish if some one can help me with this, is there is similar known problems, datastructure, or at least where to start from.
    Thanks in advance.

Since no one has replied it looks like I didn't explain the above problem well. After more understanding of the problem and doing more of researches, I came to know that the whole sollution is based on pivot table reports. Since that the data that needs to be generated not in the database, and could be result of rotating rows and grouping some other columns.
Anyways, so far I know that cross-tab rerports in MS SQL would do similiar functionality, and this is the aproach that i'm going with since that I don't know if there is other better or simpler way. To have more idea if what I'm talking about take a look at this http://cfapp2.undp.org/hdr/statistics/data/rc_select.cfm.
    I wish to know:
    - Is cross-tab queries is enough for this kind of reports?
    - If there is other possible solutions, knowing that i'm developing with JAVA?
    - If there is any information available about pivot table implemenations.
hope that this time I made it clear, any ideas will appreciated:)

  • Reporting Services in both SharePoint 2013 connected and native mode?

Is it possible to configure Reporting Services (SQL Server 2014) to support both SharePoint 2013 connected mode and local Report Server in native mode on the same server using multiple instances of RS? The reason for this setup is to avoid having to purchase
SharePoint Enterprise CALs for other users than analysts and still be able to publish standard reports to all employees.
Management and analysts -> Custom reports published through SharePoint 2013 Enterprise (SP2013 ECALs and SQL Server 2014 core license). Data alerts and Power View enabled if possible.
All employees -> Standard reports published through Native Mode Report Server (SQL Server 2014 core license). Possible subscriptions.
I find the official documentation a bit lacking in this area but can't find anything stating against the above. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could confirm before planning the installs.
What I'm aiming for is somewhat similar to the "2 Tier Topology" described at: Example
License Topologies and Costs for SQL Server 2014 Self-Service Business Intelligence
With the difference that there is a separate SQL Server 2014 server used both by SharePoint and as a standalone BI-server.
SharePoint EE + SQL Server 2014 EE
    Excel Services
SSRS Add-in (Reporting Services, Power View)
SQL Server DB for SP Content, Configuration and Service Application DB:s
SQL Server 2014 EE - SharePoint + Standalone for BI
    SSRS SharePoint Mode
    SSRS Native Mode
SSAS (Not in SharePoint mode, skipping PowerPivot for now. Would Power View still work?)
SQL Server DB for Data Warehouse
= 1 x SharePoint EE Server Licence, 2 x SQL Server 2014 EE Server Licenses?
    Deployment
Topologies for SQL Server BI Features in SharePoint - Actually gives a good overview in the section "PowerPivot for SharePoint
2013 and Reporting Services Three Server Deployment". Just remove PowerPivot Service from Server 1 and change the Analysis Services in Server 2 to a regular native multidimensional mode. Server 2 would also be used for native Reporting Services.
Fallback or even beneficial option to install SSRS in SharePoint mode on the SQL Server instance used for content and configuration?

    Hi Daniel Wikar,
As per my understanding, you want to install two SQL Server instances on the same server, and configure one of the Reporting Services to SharePoint integrated mode, another to native mode.
According to my knowledge, multiple instances of Reporting Services on the same computer, where one instance runs in SharePoint integrated mode and the other instance runs in native mode is supported. But we must run all report server instances at the same
level. For example, if we are using SQL Server 2014, all report server instances must be SQL Server 2014.
Besides, Analysis Services and Reporting Services can be installed as standalone servers, in scale-out configurations, or as shared service applications in a SharePoint farm. Installing the services in a farm enables BI features that are only available in
SharePoint, including PowerPivot for SharePoint and Power View.

  • Webi report data & the corresponding BW Query data do not tally.

    Hi all,
I am running a Webi report (XI 3.1)  over a universe that is built on an SAP BW Query. The data in the report is regarding sales, and the grand total of the 'Sales Amount' as per the BW Query is about 1Million, which is correct. However, when I run a Webi report based on the same BW query, taking ALL the objects from the query (without any conditions and filters), the 'Sales Amount' figure comes out to be only 50K instead of 1Mn(as above). I'm not sure why this figure is so drastically reduced in the Webi report.
When I remove some objects from the query,  Webi displays the correct figure of 1Mn. But these are the objects that are very much required in the report for multidimensional analysis. Dropping these objects would defeat the purpose of the report. The BW query too includes these objects during its execution and then displays the correct sales figure of 1Mn.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Alok.

    Hi,
Yes, I was getting partial results. I got rid of it by unchecking the the options in the 'SQL' tab in the Universe parameters.

  • Error trying to create a Power View report against a Multi Dimensional SSAS cube

    Hi all,
We have installed the Power View For Multidimensional Models CTP, released last November 27 on our Analysis Server instances.  I am now trying to create a Power View report in SharePoint that is connected to a Multi-Dimensional cube.
I have followed the instructions diligently:
    1. Install the CTP
    2. Created a data connection of type "Microsoft BI Semantic Model for Power View" (see attachment #1)
    3. Tested that the connection was valid (all is good here!)
I then select the "Create Power View Report" option from the data connection that I created above.

I guess I'm asking the simplest way to implement this - one jsp passing data to another jsp (via vectors) if a button is pushed without making one huge href link full of vector data.
    Thanks

Hi - I tried the method above but it (JSP1) is passing nul values to the jsp (JSP2) - though the variables I'm setting in the first JSP(JSP1) are not null.
I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that JSP1 starts out by getting a vector from a servlet that has forwarded to the JSP1 - so JSP1 starts out with this line:
    <%
         Vector results = (Vector)request.getAttribute("tests");
%>then a summary is created and displayed to the user - at the bottom on this summary I have a button which takes alot of the information from the summary to put in a detailed report (the information that is being passed as null currently)
I have enclosed it in a form so the request goes to JSP2 like so:
<form name="resultreport" action="report.jsp" method=post>so that means the bottom of JSP1 looks like this:
            request.setAttribute("totals", totals);
         request.setAttribute("pass_count", pass_count);
          <input type="submit" value="View Report">then JSP2 just looks like this at the moment:
    <%
        String[] totals = (String[]) request.getAttribute("totals");
        String pass_count = (String) request.getAttribute("pass_count");
    %>
length of array is <%=totals.length%> <BR>
    passcount is <%=pass_count%>
So I guess my question is - is the problem that JSP1 already calls the request object to get an attribute right at the beginning - then me setting request attributes and sending them to another jsp messes it up and results in nothing being sent? or is it ok to get the request object from another servlet - access attributes then set new attributes and send them to another jsp?
