Multilink ppp and E3

my company has 3 major sites, we wish to configure channelised E3 along with multilink so that we have 3 different links to 3 different remote sites so that there traffic travels across seperatly. the 1st will have 8 E1s bundled together for one site the 2nd will have 4 E1s bundled for the 2nd destination, 2 E1s will be bundled for the last destination and the remaining 2 E1s will be used fpr back up .
Is this possible ? How? is it also version dependent i m workin on 12.2 IOS on cisco 7206 VXR. Please help urgently.
Thanks.

hi,
here you can creat three different MLPPP interface and you can add the E1 link as per your requirement to the appropriate group... so here in first MLPPP you will add 8E1
in second MLPPP you will add 4E1 and in
third you will add 2E1... and now you want to configure other two E1 for back up off all this three then you can go for Distributed MLPPP as given in the privious post...
"The Distributed Multilink Point to Point Protocol (dMLP) feature allows you to combine full or fractional T1/E1 lines in a line card (VIP, FlexWAN) on a Cisco 7500 or 7600 series router into a bundle that has the combined bandwidth of multiple links. You use a distributed MLP Bundle to do this. A user can choose the number of bundles in a router and the number of links per bundle. This allows the user to increase the bandwidth of network links beyond that of a single T1/E1 line without the need to purchase a T3 line. In non-dMLP, all of the packets are switched by the Route Processor (RP); therefore, this implementation impacts performance of the RP, with high CPU utilization for only a few T1/E1 lines running MLP. With dMLP, the total number of bundles that can be handled on the router is increased, as the data path is handled and limited by line card CPU and memory. dMLP allows you to bundle fractional T1/E1, starting from DS0 (64 Kbps) onwards."
Hope this will help you

  • Two T1 lines and multilink PPP question

We are getting an additional full T1 line from our ISP for failover and increased bandwith. Each T1 line will go to different NOCs. We decided on multilink ppp (MLPPP). Our ISP told us that traffic will be transmitted on both T1 lines. Packets from one NOC will go to the other NOC, reassembled and send to WAN. In the event one NOC fails, all traffic will go through the other one.
I understand two MLPPP lines must terminate on a single router at a single location. Is what I mentioned above possible?
I also have a 2651XM router with 256MB of memory. I need two seperate WIC CSU/DSU integrated T1 modules. Can someone recommend a model?
    Thanks

The most common implementation is indeed MLPPP which terminates multiple PPP links on the same end devices. There is also an implementation of multi-chassis multilink which can terminate ppp links on separate chassis. I guess that is is possible that the chassis could be in separate NOCs. I have no experience with this implementation where the participating routers are in different NOCs, but I assume that it could work.

  • RV320 and Multilink PPP

Has anyone attempted to achieve something like this:
On the remote site, a Cisco RV320 Router, connecting to two DrayTek Vigor120 xDSL modems through the two Gigabit WAN ports, which connect to two xDSL links.
Ignoring the Core end of the xDSL (which I can make support Multilink PPP), has anyone ever imagined/tried/succeeded to run multilink PPP originating in the RV320 router or similar ( the LAC), transiting the two xDSL links and terminating on the LNS at the Core end of the xDSL link?
Sorry its a bit off the wall, I think I may be asking a lot to make this work, but you have to try!
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Bump!...anyone out there with ideas?

  • MultiLink PPP Processor Load

Is there a large increase in Processor Load when using MultiLink PPP to bond T1s together while running MPLS? We have been requested to bond circuits for customers, but are reluctant because of the danger of over utilizing the processor on our 7206s which are mostly NPE-400s and some NPE-G1s. Is there a reference somewhere to the increase in Processor Load caused by MPPP?

    Hi,
Cisco does not publish quantitative details on the impact of MLPPP on CPU utilisation. So the best option for you is to do some baselining within the lab: start with an unloaded box with two separate T1s, pass traffic over them so that they are both fully utilised and then note CPU utilisation. Then, enable MPPP over these, pass traffic over the multilink interface so that it's fully utilised and then note CPU utilisation. That should give you some idea of the incremental impact of such interfaces. You can always do things such as disable fragmentation when using MLPPP which does reduce CPU utilisation.
Having said that, the NPE-400/NPE-g1s are pretty grunty and should be able to handle a few multilink interfaces. It comes down to how many of these interfaces you are expecting to use...
Hope that helps - pls do rate the post if it does.

  • RAS access via multilink PPP

I need to establish RAS access to my network via an ISDN PRI line. Most users will be single POTS line users but I'll also need to allow bundled POTS line users via Microsoft multilink PPP. I'm planning to order a Cisco 2811 to handle this using a NM-1CE1T1-PRI module for the PRI and a PVDM2-24DM for the calls. Will this setup handle my requirments?

I have 20 leased line with 256 kpbs sharing on 2 E1 links on the module NM-1CE1T1-PRI (1-Port Channelized E1/T1/ISDN-PRI Network Module).
Now we are migrating those 20 line to 2 mbps leased line, i wanted to know that using PVDM can i used the existing 20 lines as backup isdn line ?
We use RAS for dialup and want to remove RAS device so my question is can i use the cards mentioned above so that 20 locations can dial in with on the present E1 card without using patton RAS?

  • Transparent bridging & Multilink PPP

Is it possible to run Multilink PPP on 2 T1s while also doing transparent bridging?
If so, Do I need to put bridge-group 1 on my multilink interface?
    thx

It is not clear what the original problem was or what was the solution. And I am not clear what problem you are trying to solve that leads to the question of bridging over the multi link.
If we knew more about your situation we might be able to give better advice. But I would suggest that the answer will turn out to be something close to this:
    - if you want to route IP over the multilink and to bridge some other traffic that might be possible.
    - if you want to bridge IP over the multilink then you can not have an IP address configured on the multilink. To bridge IP over the multilink you might need to do something like configure Integrated Routing and Bridging. In IRB you configure a virtual interface BVI and put the IP address on the BVI. then you put a bridge group on the multilink which points to the BVI. It is ugly and I would not recommend it, but I think that it might work.

  • Multilink-PPP

    Hi,
i want to make my Archlinux work as Multilink-PPP server.
i played with MPD http://mpd.sourceforge.net/, a FreeBSD Multilink-PPP daemon, and it was easy to let it bundle to L2TP-Connections to a single link.
But doing the same with Linux seems to be quite harder, can you help me?
    The-Master

the only way that i know to set up a multilink ppp in linux is to use pppd and set the mp option in the peer file, you can probably find a lot more about it by checking the pppd man pages and you will also need to find a l2tp module for the kernel. search google for it.

  • Multilink PPP (MLPPP)?

I have a need for multilink PPP. I can't seem to find a way to configure this in my AEBS - is it possible?

The most common implementation is indeed MLPPP which terminates multiple PPP links on the same end devices. There is also an implementation of multi-chassis multilink which can terminate ppp links on separate chassis. I guess that is is possible that the chassis could be in separate NOCs. I have no experience with this implementation where the participating routers are in different NOCs, but I assume that it could work.

  • PPP and virtual-access2 is down, please help

    Dear All,
Since yesterday we have problems with our Cisco 878 SDSL router/modem. We make use of a standard script from our ISP (KPN.com). When we have uploaded the script by Windows Terminal, the router is unable to establish a ppp connection with our ISP. Virtual-access2 link is up, but the protocol is down.
Please find underneath the standard script from KPN.com. Please help we have already lost 1 day with "trial and error" and the service and support is not that great from our ISP.
Thanks in advance for your reply.

  • PPP and DHCP

    Hi,
As a lot of other user in this forum i'm struggling with modem and PPP.
My question is regarding Dialup thru modem using PPP to an ISP and also
    using DHCP client.
I have, i think, configured most of it correct but something is missing.
What confuses me is exactly how to get the HDCP client configured to my
    PPP interface.
I have setup the following file /etc/uucp/Devices
    /etc/uucp/Dialers and /etc/uucp/Systems
The file /etc/asppp.cf is a bit unclear to me if i should configure
my ppp interface, ipdptp0: with soem dhcp parameters or if this should
be done before ? Should i have the files /etc/hostname.ipdptp0 and
    /etc/dhcp.ipdptp0 ?
What happens is that when i run " cu -d -L [ISP name]
it dials and starts handshaking with modem at ISP. But when looking
form another dterm window, " ifconfig -a " i never see an IP address
getting configured to the interface and the modem is disconnected
after a while. Not sure if it's a login validation with user/passw
that fails or if it's something with the dhcp client.
Anyone have any hints, i gone thru a lot of Sun docs.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I found a very promising Internet link which goes thru very detailed
how to setup a connection to ANY ISP. This is the so far most detailed i ever seen around this area.I will look there.

  • PPP and IPv6 stateless address configuration

    Hello everyone.
I'm doing some tests with IPv6 over PPP. Using IPv6 over the Ethernet you can use the "stateless address autoconfiguration" to assign a global IPv6 address to a machine when in.ndpd is running on one machine in the network.
Is it possible to do stateless autoconfiguration using a PPP connection ?
The computer which shall configure itself is running under Solaris. Currently I use only one computer with two instances of pppd running. The interfaces "sppp0"/"sppp1" do not have the "ADDRCONF" flag set. After setting this flag manually using ioctl(SIOCSLIFFLAGS) ifconfig says that the ADDRCONF flag is set but the address is not automatically configured.
    ndpd.conf contains the following lines:
prefix (a test prefix here) sppp0
prefix (another test prefix here) sppp1
I re-started in.ndpd after the PPP connection was up but this did not help.
    Any ideas ?
    Martin

    Hello again.
It seems I only forgot the "if sppp0 AdvSendAdvertisements on" line in the ndpd.conf file.
Address autoconfiguration seems to work now. I tested a connection between a computer running Linux and a computer running Solaris - it worked well.

  • PPP and Networking

This is somewhat of a crazy question, so almost any response would be appreciated.
I have an Arch box connected to a TV in my house that is far from any ethernet connection. It runs DDR, but I'd like to connect it to my network and do a pacman -Syu to get the new nVidia drivers and pull a few files off of it. I don't want to move it because it's a pain to get it connected to the TV, but I don't have a long enough ethernet cable to hook it directly to the network. I do, however, have a different arch box that is connected to the network, a very long phone cable, and an abundance of old PCI modems that were never used.
Is there any way I could set up a basic PPP connection to get even a slow network connection?

What about being practical with this and buying a long enough ethernet cable ?
    You'll thank yourself later
Or you could download the packages you need with your already-connected-to-the-internet Arch PC and transfer them with USB/CD to the TV box and install off that...
