Multiple applications and Tablespaces
Hi All,
I am currently an SQL Server DBA and Admin but I'm currently trying to learn a little more about how Oracle does its thing. As such, could someone help me with the following:
In SQL Server we might have up to 70 -> 80 "Databases" attached to a single database "Instance". Each database could be for a particular application we are developing for one of our clients, or it could even be for a specific internal system.
I know Oracle has a different definition of what a "Database" is so I'm wondering if someone could give some guidance on how I would create my 70 or 80 databases under Oracle (if I were so inclined).
The nearest analogue I can see in Oracle would perhaps be Tablespaces, but that doesn't seem like a perfect fit either. Is it even possible or common to have several database applications running under one instance of Oracle, or is Oracle perhaps just meant for single uber applications?

SimonThe analogy is that a "database" in SQLServer is more like a "schema" in Oracle. A schema is the collection of all objects (tables, indexes, procedures, etc.) that are owned by one given user account. That user account can be created for the sole purpose of owning the objects. Real users (humans, or apps that connect with their own credentials on behalf of a human) can be granted access to the schema objects.
There is no inherent relation between any of this and a tablespace. While a user account will have a default tablespace for it's objects, the user can actually have objects in any tablespace for which it has quota. And a given tablespace can contain objects from multiple schemas. Many DBA's will make a one-for-one relationship between a schema/user and a tablespace, but that is strictly an organizational decision and there is nothing defined in the database to enforce it.

I'm having problems with loading multiple sub-applications
and making remote calls to BlazeDS. I get an error saying:

Here is some more information about my current attempt:

What is the Text Book correct way to do a spot uv merging multiple applications and exporting from 1
I am unsuccesssfully finishing a project using Spot UV and about to start another. I want to start this one out the Text Book correct way. Here are the details.
I have logo's coming from Illustrator that I want to have a spot UV on
I have photos coming from photoshop that I want a spot UV on
I have a design element in In Design that I want a spot UV on
What is the Correct way to get everything into In Design have it output to a PDF that a printer could use and a second one that I could use for the Web that does not show the spot uv
A note is that the last project I followed all the tutorials on the web that say to use channels in photoshop to make my spot UV that in the end I think is causing me a lot of headaces right now.
Thanks in advancePut the spot UV on its own layer in InDesign. Turn it off for the web version of the PDF.

Having the exact same issue. Also, on right click, many apps freeze/beachball and must force close. Additionally, uTorrent and Transmission are not operating correctly-uTorrent constantly beachballing and unresponsive. Right-click freezes with everything from Word to iMovie. Takes way too much time to do anything, and lots of cursor freezing, here is a sys log excerpt:

That killed the hard drive, so I got a new hard drive and had the Apple Store install Lion on it, then used Migration Assistant to bring files over. Since then I've upgraded to Mountain Lion and have been experiencing lots of beach balls, freezes, etc. They're so bad that I've had to forcibly shut down 3 times, and each time can't restart. The 12.1.3 Instance will have multiple application servers.
I will be doing an R12.1.1 Installation with Upgrade Option.
What should be the procedure to have multiple application servers?
Finish the upgrade on one Application Node and then clone the other Application Tiers?
Please advise.

Multiple applications: weblogic 6.0 sp1 and apache 1.3.12 proxy

We are testing the following setup:
Weblogic 6.0 SP1 running on Solaris 8 (SUN, ip: 192.168.0.1)
Apache 1.3.12 running on Linux (ip: 192.168.0.2)
We have two applications setup on weblogic in the following
directories:
$WL_HOME/config/mydomain/applications/app1 and
$WL_HOME/config/mydomain/applications/app2
The idea is to set up virtual hosts on the apache server and
depending on the url, redirect the client to a specific
application. So for the application app1 we have the following
setup in httpd.conf:

This seems to work fine, e.g. if the client requests a page
http://app1.url.com/index.jsp this gets correctly passed to
weblogic as http://192.168.0.1:7001/app1/index.jsp.
BUT when a jsp page does a response.sendRedirect
(redirectpage.jsp), weblogic tells the client to redirect to
http://app1.url.com/app1/redirectpage.jsp. *Apache* immediately
comes back with an error 404. Is there a way of stripping
the /app1 path from the redirect page that gets sent
to the client?
OR is there a better way of hosting multiple applications on a
server?
This is only a problem when we use sendRedirect.

That is not normal. Very few apps are actually running in the background. What troubleshooting steps have you taken? Have you reset the phone by simultaneously pressing the Home and power buttons until the apple appears? Restored from back up? Restored as new? -
Expose and multiple applications
Hi,
Am I correct in thinking that Expose should work with multiple applications, I can only get it to work within a single application?
If I use the F3 (expose), F9 (multiple windows), F10 (application windows) I do not get any Expose functions, I get what is marked on the key. By the way, these key functions are what I read if I go into Expose preferences.
I am sure this is just a matter of education as I can't seem to figure it out for myself.
For info I am sure I had the same issue before I installed Snow Leopard, I was just trying to play with the new Expose functions and remembered about this.

If I have say 6 applications open, all of which have designated spaces, then hitting the Expose key only works within a single application. If I disable Spaces then hitting the Expose key works fine and separates out each application on the screen.
Is this how Expose is meant to work?
I thought it would separate out each open window (example, of one of my 6 open applications is Mail, and I have 3 emails open, then hitting Expose would separate out every single window).
Would anyone like to clear my confusion?

Now she is not able to load apps to her devices, eventhough it appear she is logged into her own iTunes account. How can I setup iTunes correctly on each device? Currently, there is one PC and one Mac laptop and we each have iPhones, with one other family member not able to use his 'passed-down' device for iTunes, also.

Multiple websites and applications using one user database
I've got several applications and websites that will be built around one main application. In a perfect situation users will be able to register once and be able to log into the different applications and websites using that single account. The different
parts will be:
Main application (Windows application) that uses the account to get access to it's features and to the server.
Second application with it's own specific tasks (Also a Windows Application) that uses the account to get access to it's features and to the server.
Main website which is based on Wordpress. The website has a bbPress forum that would use the account.
Data server which can be accessed for specific data using the account.
Most of the data that the users have will be the same for the different applications and websites so to me it seems that having a database for each separate part would complicate things more than having one database for everything.
My main concern is the Wordpress site and bbPress forum because of the fact that these already have their own account systems.
What would be a valid approach? Using one of the existing databases from Wordpress or the forums with the risk of having a lot of Wordpress/bbPress specific data with the accounts or making a database especially for the other applications and websites and
somehow linking those to the website and forum databases? Would the valid approach be secure for use by these different applications and websites?Moderators,

If you follow these steps, the installer will replace your operating system if one is already present, but will preserve your account information and personal files. You may have to reinstall some applications, however.
Insert the install disc (or the first install disc if you have more than one) into your disc drive. Restart your computer while holding down the c key. This causes your computer to start up from the install disc rather than your hard drive. When you see the gray Apple insignia, release c .
The Mac OS X installer should open automatically. Follow the on-screen prompts to read and accept the license agreement and begin the installation. When prompted to choose a destination disk, select your preferred location and click Install.
When the Mac OS X installation finishes with the disc, restart your computer. After the installation completes, a configuration program may begin automatically if you are installing for the first time. You will need to supply basic setup information for your computer.
Update your system software to ensure that you have the most recent operating system components. From the Apple menu, select Software Update... , and then follow the instructions on the screen. What, if any, restrictions / caveats are there for installing multiple Application Express versions on a single server? We have Application Express 2.2 installed and wondering if we can install Application Express 3.0 also.
With 2.2, we have FLOWS_020200, FLOWS_FILES, and APEX_PUBLIC_USER as database users. Version 3.0 will want to create FLOWS_030000, FLOWS_FILES, and APEX_PUBLIC_USER. Any problems with what I expect will be errors on "user already exists" for FLOWS_FILES and APEX_PUBLIC_USER?

I'm really sorry but this is a typo on my part. It should be "You can't have two different APEX versions on the same instance."
Does it mean that if we install ApEx v3 we will have only ApEx v3?Yes. This is exactly what it means. The installation script automatically detect previous installed APEX (or earlier HTML DB ) version, and upgrade it. You can end up with only one version per instance.

Multiple applications running on the same portal server
Environment : EP 7.0 SPS12
We have multiple portal applications running on the same portal with different login page for each application. On one of our employee portal, we want to put a login page link for another portal application running on the same portal which requires a different user ID and password to access that application.
The problem we are encountering is, the login page link we put in our employee portal is bypassing the login page for the other application and using the same session as the employee portal. What can I do to make sure application login page show up when accessing the link from employee portal?

thanks for the clarification. I think I do understand now and the only thing I can think of is to delete the session cookie.
The problem with that is that you would not be able to use "simple" links (e.g. you could not just call the URL of the other application, but you would have to create some application (a simply JSP would probably be fine) that deletes the cookie and redirects you to the new application.
An other option would be to create DNS aliases that so that the session cookie is not sent (but depending on your setup this might have other drawbacks). Since the cookies are not valid for the other domains you would always start with a new login when you access a new application (e.g. the employee portal has the url portal.employee.company.com and the customer portal has portal.cutomer.company.com. Then (if the settings for ume.logon.security.relax_domain.level,see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/5e/473d4124b08739e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm is correct)

One login for multiple applications
Hi,
I was using HTMLDB 1.6 and followed the following guidlines: one login multiple applications for one login to multiple applications. Basically I set the cookie name the same for both applications. It worked.
Now I've upgraded to HTMLDB 2.0 and this doesn't work anymore. I need to login to each application. Any way around this?

of course I am opening page 9 in a new window. I never had a problem with this but today, in a demo to some executives, the new window apparently came up with the login page and not page 9. Would this be due to a browser setting? Unfortunately, I don't have much info about the laptop they were using.
The demo was still a success!

Multiple application pools for ColdFusion possible in the same IIS website?
I would like to set up a single website with CFM11 under IIS8.5
In this website there are several CFM applications, each under a different "Application" subfolder. For security purposes, monitoring and separate maintenance shutdowns per application, these would all need their own "application pool".
However, this means that these applications should run under a different application pool than their website root node. In IIS this causes a 403.18 exception:
HTTP Error 403.18 - Forbidden
The specified request cannot be processed in the application pool that is configured for this resource on the Web server.
Most likely causes:
•An ISAPI filter or custom module changed the URL to run in a different application pool than the original URL.
•An ISAPI extension (or custom module) used ExecuteURL (or ExecuteRequest) to run in a different application pool than the original URL.
•You have a custom error page that is located in one application pool but is referenced by a Web site in another application pool. When the URL is processed, it is determined by IIS that that it should have been processed in the first application pool, not the other pool.
•The Web site has multiple applications configured. The application this request is configured to run in is set to run in an application pool that does not exist.
All works fine if the "applications" in the subfolders run under the same application pool as the website root. However that is not my preferred setup... The behaviour is consistent over all CFM-applications that I deploy, no matter how simple they are...
Two questions:
- is coldfusion actually looking to "higher" folders than I expect it to? (and can that be avoided)
- any hints or experiences on how to avoid / solve this issue?Here are the steps you need to follow:
When you create connector for your ColdFusion 11 website, you get the “Jakarta” as virtual directory added under your website in IIS. If you don't then add 'jakarta' as virtual directory in your website.
You need to right click on “Jakarta” folder and click on “Convert to Application”.
Select the new Application Pool of the Application (say Test) added under website (CF 11)
Click OK. Restart IIS.
NOTE : You need not to restart IIS as well however if you still face the issue after following the above steps then try to restart IIS.
