Multiple columns in a Parameter

Can anyone give me a head up how to do in BI publisher.
There are two columns in table CODES (CodeNo, CodeDsc), I can put them into a LOV (?),
In parameter I can use this LOV, but just show CodeDsc, user can choose one or more items, then the parameter passes multiple CodeNo into data model which WHERE cause is something like this:
WHERE thecode IN (:mycodes)
How to do this?
Thanks.

It seems like you answer your own question - at least for the standalone BI Publisher (not integrated in EBS, Peoplesoft, Siebel)
1) LOV's allow you to have either 1 or 2 columns. if 1 column is used it is display and data column. otherwise
what is displayed and what is passed to the parameter are in the 2 different columns.
If you want to show both codeNo and CoDsc, you could have them concatinated in the query.
2) If you check the checkbox that multiple values are allowed for a lov parameters, they are passed as a comma seperated list
and can be put into a where clause just as you stated.
What specific is the question? Is that about E-Business Sutie or Peoplesoft?
Thanks,
Klaus

  • Primary Key Multiple Column with Date - parameter issue

    All,
    I am having an issue that I cannot find the answer to. I have looked high and low to no avail. Please help.
    The issue at hand is that I have a table that has a multiple column primary key and one of the columns happens to be a date and the other is a string. I have a basic search and I want an update picture in the results table that the users can click on and go to a different page to update that record. The issue is when I fire an action based on the update picture I also want to set parameters based on the record that I selected. So I set the string parameter and that works fine. The issue is with the date. When i set the date parameter it works but it chops off the timestamp. Later when I try to get this parameter 'pageContext.getParameter("dateParameter");' it will bring in a date like 15-Dec-2008 but I need the entire date and timestamp (i.e. 15-Dec-2008 10:20:33) to correctly identify the record.
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Colby J

    Hi
    since every parameter go in url as a string format so u will never get the date parameter with complete timestamp,the solution would de
    1.) Set a fire action on update picture,give its event name as "update",
    2.) clicking on update picture will fire this event .
    3.) in processFormrequest method of controller
    OAApplicationModule am = pageContext.getApplicationModule(webBean);
    if ("update".equals(pageContext.getParameter("event")))
    // this will give the select row where update is clicked
    String rowReference = pageContext.getParameter(OAWebBeanConstants.EVENT_SOURCE_ROW_REFERENCE);
    VORowImpl row = (EmployeeSummaryVORowImpl)am.findRowByRef(rowReference);
    Timestamp sdateVal=(String)row.getAttribute("Date value");
    // this will transfer the values to next page
    pageContext.putTransactionTransientValue("transferdvalue",sdateVal);
    // and in the next page u can get the value like this
    timestamp getDateVal=pageContext.getTransactionTransientValue("transferdvalue"l);
    hope this will resolve your issue,Please let me know if u face any issue

  • How to retrieve multiple columns using "returning" in the Insert query.

    hi,
    wanted to know how to retrieve multiple columns using "returning" in the Insert Query.
    For retrieving one column we write the query as follows:
    Insert into TABLE values(1,2,3,4) returning COLUMN1 into PARAMETER
    But can we retrive multiple columns in the same query?
    am using oracle 10g and coding in .NET

    Hi,
    You can definetely get multiple values from a single query using the 'returning' clause.
    Eg : insert into emp (empno, ename, job, deptno) values (7324,'ADAM','MARKETING',30) returning ename, deptno into var1, var2; PN : var1 & var2 to be declared as varchar2 & number respectively.
    More insight into the 'RETURNING' clause in this link.

    you can do that by flowing the stap
    at first you will write a select statement
    select ...
    From ...
    where Style (colomn name) = &style1
    then you create a user parameter soupose wich name is P_style and which valus is x, y, and z you should enter another value soupose that name is 'All' (All means x + y + Z)
    then you write in after parameter form trigger...
    IF :P_style = 'All' then
    :style1 := null;
    Else :style1 := 'and style (style means your column name) = :P_style;
    end if;

    While I have no problems to create the URL to open a report with a single value for a parameter from my Java application, I don't know how to format multiple values for a parameter when I want to pass the "&prompt0=" value. The values I want to pass are numbers, not strings.
    Anyone can help?

  • Multiple values for the Parameter

    1. Had any tried the selecting MULTIPLE values for the parameter in Oracle Discoverer Plus Releae 4.1 Version 4.1.37.00.0. If so can please let me know how to implement it.
    2. In a Page-Detail Cross Tab workbook, I have to show the weighted average instead of the avg or sum. Any inputs please.
    3. I have to compare two periods (TOP) of datapoints. Any inputs please.

    If you wanted to eliminate the need for users to type in the parameter values, you could create a LOV on the desired column. This will produce a distinct list of all valid values where the user would simply select as the wish. Of course you still need to check the "let user enter multiple values" checkbox if you want them to select more than one.

  • Index Multiple Column of Multiple Tables

    Hi All,
    I would like to know how to create a index which can search through all column in my database tables. Eg: I have 30
    tables and every tables have around 10 columns. I want to create a index which can search through the columns in
    these tables.
    I know that User_DataStore can helps in create multiple column search across multiple tables. But in my case the BLOB
    created will be very huge. Any work around? I mean is there any solutions like concatenated datastore?
    Thank You.
    Regards,
    LG Tan

    Hi,
    I figured out how to do this today. The first thing is that the type of index you need is a USER_DATASTORE.
    The idea behind this type of index is pretty straight forward but the documentation does a very good job of not drawing attention to just how powerful it is.
    The idea behind a USER_DATASTORE is that you can write your own stored procedure to extract the data that you want to index and return it to the indexer. Take an example where you have a master table which contains enough information to allow you to find associated data in other tables i.e. a shared key. The idea is that when you set up a USER_DATASTORE index, you specify the name of a stored procedure that the indexer will call for each row in the master table. The stored procedure has one input and one output parameter, rowid (in) and clob (out).
    When the index is created, the stored procedure you specify is, as I said above, called for each row in the master table. Your stored procedure uses this ROWID to extract the shared key (this can be anything you want) from the master table and uses this to build the necessary SELECT statement to retrieve the related data from the other tables. The rest of the stored procedure simply appends the data returned from your select statement to the return CLOB. The indexer then indexes the inforamation in this CLOB and discards the data.
    The index can of course only return hits against the master table. It's up to your application to extract shared key from the returned row(s), bind to the other tables and present the results.
    You will find a basic example of how to implement USER_DATASTORES in the Oracle Text Reference Guide (http://download.oracle.com/otndoc/oracle9i/901_doc/text.901/a90121.pdf). Feel free to email me if you want some example code.

  • UPDATE multiple columns with conditional SET parameters

    Hi,
    You certainly don't want to issue separate UPDATE statements for every column; that will be really inefficent.
    SQL has several ways to implement IF-THEN-ELSE logic. CASE is the most versatile, but NVL will do everything you need for this job. You can use one of those to set a column to itself (and therefore not really update that column) when appropriate.
    For example:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE TMP_PROC (
      pPOL_NUM   IN       NUMBER,
      pOED          IN   DATE,
      pTERM          IN   NUMBER,
      pTRANS_CD  IN       CHAR
    AS
    BEGIN
         UPDATE  temp
         SET     oed      = NVL (poed,       oed)
         ,     term      = NVL (pterm,       term)
         ,     trans_cd = NVL (ptrans_cd, trans_cd)
         WHERE     pol_num      = ppol_num;
      COMMIT;     -- Maybe
    END    tmp_proc;"EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN NULL" is almost always a bad idea. If there's an error, don't you want to know about it? Shouldn't you at least log a message in a warnings table or something?
    Think careflully about whether or not you want to COMMIT every time you call this procedure.
    Just as it's inefficient to issue a separate UPDATE statement for every column, it's also inefficient to issue a separate UPDATE statement for every row. If efficiency is important, it should be possible to UPDATE several rows in a single UPDATE statement, using NVL (or CASE, or COALESCE, or NULLIF, or NVL2, or ...).
    This was a very well-written question! Thanks for providing the CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, and such a clear explanation.

    Hi,
    Thanks for immediate reply.
    PH1, PH2, PH3, ... will go more columns based on parameter , what we are passing.An single SQL statement cannot have a dynamic number of columns based on the data itself. The projection (columns returned) have to be known before any data is fetched... and that includes some 'parameter' value.
    {thread:id=2309172}
    You can build a query dynamically, based on a parameter or even on the data, but 99 times out 100 people use dynamic queries where they are not needed.
    Perhaps explain to us what you are really trying to achieve and why, and we could suggest some better way.

  • Comparison of multiple column values with a single column value

    I have two separate tables say Tab1 and Tab2
    I want to select some datas , which is common to both the tables.
    In tab1 , there is a column 'STATE' and it's value is 'A'
    In tab2, there are multiple columns for the state, say STATE_A,STATE_B, STATE_C ETC and a row is present with the following details
    STATE_A = 1, STATE_B =1 ,STATE_C =0,STATE_D=1
    I need to select STATE when STATE_A ='1',
    if my STATE='B', this STATE has to be selected since STATE_B =' 1', similraly
    if my STATE='D', this STATE has to be selected since STATE_D =' 1',
    If my STATE='C', STATE_C should not get selected since it's '0'.

  • JTextAreaCellRenderer to wrap text in multiple columns... any better way?

    I would like to use a basic JTextArea cell renderer to wrap the text in a JTable cell, like in this thread
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=664671&messageID=3893724
    Although the technique works, a disadvantage is that it cannot be used "as is" for multiple columns due to the setRowHeight/revalidate issue. One suggested workaround was to keep track of the maximum row height, as described here:
    http://www.javaspecialists.co.za/archive/newsletter.do?issue=106
    Both seem a bit rough. Are there any other options or more efficient techniques for automatically wrapping text in a JTable cell?

    Hello, did you search online? there are many tutorials like this one: http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photoshop-text/text-effects/text-wrap/
    You simply create a path, substract the parts you do not need, then click with the text tool inside.
    Note that it is not a dynamic text wrap, you need to change it if you move the objects around.
