Multiple Connection attempts required before Actually Connecting to 10g

We just upgraded from 9i to 10g, and now we're having problems logging into SQL Plus. It takes 4-5 tries in SQL Plus before successfully connecting to the database. Once its connected, the connection is fine, but initially it is very finicky. The error messages it gives before connecting are: ORA-12638 (credential retrieval failed) or ORA-12545 (connect failed because target host or object does not exist)This never happened before. Any ideas?

$oerr ora 12638

// *Cause:  The authentication service failed to retrieve the credentials of a
// user.
// *Action: Enable tracing to determine the exact error.
$oerr ora 12545

// *Cause: The address specified is not valid, or the program being
// connected to does not exist.
// *Action: Ensure the ADDRESS parameters have been entered correctly; the
// most likely incorrect parameter is the node name. Ensure that the
// executable for the server exists (perhaps "oracle" is missing.)
// If the protocol is TCP/IP, edit the TNSNAMES.ORA file to change the
// host name to a numeric IP address and try again.
Did you change hostname or IP of the box too?

  • Flashcards require multiple connection attempts before recognized

    I have an early 2008 MBP, a SanDisk USB card reader, and a Sandisk Firewire 800 card reader.
    When I connect flashcards from any camera, it requires multiple connection attempts before it is recognized by Finder or Disk Manager. I'm using multiple cards, formatted by three cameras. Because Disk Manager doesn't show the card, I have no choice but either disconnect the flash card reader, or insert the card.
    Although this occasionally happens with USB, it always happens with Firewire. I can sometimes reinsert the card three times, but unplugging the firewire cable (or USB) at the computer seems to be the most successful.
    Once recognized, the cards work flawlessly. I've run disk repair and repair permissions multiple times on my drive and flash drives, but somehow, I don't think that is the issue.
    Any ideas?

    My apologies. I'll answer your questions to clarify.
    eww wrote:
    Your message is unclear. First, I don't know of anything called Disk Manager. What is it?
    Disk Utility, not disk manager. If I connect the card reader and insert a card, and the card's volume does not appear in finder, the card's volume also does not show in Disk Utility.
    eww wrote:
    Disconnecting the reader is clear enough, but how is your computer to read your card if you haven't already inserted it? Do you mean "remove the card"?
    Have you tried connecting the reader with a card in it and merely waiting for it to be recognized? Particularly if it's a very high-capacity card, reading its contents may take a little while before the card's icon appears on the desktop.
    I didn't connect the dots. If the card it not recognized the first time, then I either I disconnect and reconnect the card reader, or remove the card and reinsert the card. This will usually allow the card to be seen.
    I have 16GB cards. I do wait on the first connection attempt. I usually insert the card, then connect the card reader. I'll come back minutes later to discover it was not recognized. However, I will be more patient retrying the connection next time. I usually wait 10-15 seconds before trying a second or third reconnection attempt.

  • Multiple connections via xml maps

    I am currently using Engage SP1 version of Xcelsius. (not Engage Server.)
    As noted in other posts, this version of the product does not all allow multiple connections to web services using the connectivity tools built into the Xcelsius development environment.
    However I've found there is no such limit placed on the number of web service connections if you set them up in Excel (as xml mappings) and then import that excel spreadsheet as the model for Xcelsius.
    I've tested this by connecting to three different web services using 3 xml maps in Excel and then importing that excel file as the model for Xcelsius to use.  The xcelsius model worked flawlessly displaying data from all three web services on the dashboard (swf).
    The only limitation I've found is that the excel XML mapping tool doesn't offer a way to feed a value as input for the web service.   In the example all three web services required no input values.
    They just run when called and return data.    (no parameter required.)
    However my attempts to setup an xml mapping to a web service that requires an input parameter has failed.
    There seems to be no way to feed the web service an input value within Excel.   I realize that may be an Excel support issue, but have found no documentation in the Excel product or websites to explain how to setup the xml map to allow for the input.
    I should note, that i have connected successfully using a web service url that contains the parameter values hard coded (but no successess passing them in from excel at the time of the web service call.)
    If anyone has solved this issue any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, when you are maping an xml file in excel you have only imported the data that contains the file but not the query, you have to update the file but i dont know if excelsius will allow to reimport the xml in the datasheet when its in a swf format. I have a similar issue because mapping its almost equal to copy the entire data base.
    I am trying to make a web service that contains more that one query and generate the xml in a schema that will be helpfull for me to make a general configuration.
    I have to make 5 or 6 drill downs whit specific information :s and i havent get any response. My limitation its that i have the same version that  you have only one conection but if i can do that web service it will be very helpfulll and i will be using like 500 rows. I dont whant to make it in diferent xcelsius templates because i havent found an alternative to conect the "filters" to each template.
    Second Xcelsius has make a point that its a waste to buy even the engage version but this is what my company whants and i have to use it.
    If you know flash you can do it in a very efficient way, also you need to have a general idea of programing an application.
    I didnt know flash but in this time 2 months have finish the project, the problem its that is not in excelsius >,>. And they what it in excelsius so they can modify the source files (.xlf).
    If i can do the web service i will post it and maybe it can help you. Good luck if you success in your idea.

  • Multiple connections for the same user.

    I have EJB A and EJB B. A and B use a JCA connector that
              I have written. I have matchManagedConnections set so that if user U has not used EJB A or EJB B, then a new ManagedConnection is created. If user U has used A or B then that user is given a new virtual connection created from an existing ManagedConnection. Now the problem is that if user U access' A for the first time and then access' B BEFORE A has closed the connection, then a new ManagedConnection is created for user U. Therefore in this case user U gets 2 ManagedConnections to the EIS that we are using. Eventually one of the ManagedConnections is distroyed but I would like to eliminate this in the first place. How do a get Weblogic to see that a user has a ManagedConnection before that user is done with the connection.

    You can't have multiple roles on multiple connection, as you are connecting to the same website (different sub directories) ultimately.
    Here is the workaround:-
    You can create a new user account on your machine and can manage different roles.
    Hope it helps.

  • What's best for ganging connections when the TBs offered don't permit multiple connections with 22AWG wire?

    The ATE system I'm working on is using rows as instruments and columns as testpoints with 1129 cards. The Terminal boards used to configure the matrix can't handle multiple 22AWG wires required. Any ideas on how best to gang signals requiring driving and reading simultaneously? The ERNI 128 pin connector doesn't have a male compatable connector that accepts crimp pins.

    I am not familiar with the SCXI-1129, but I have used IDC type connectors for similar types of cards (mainly SCXI 1163). Most of NI's switch hardware has standard spaced pins, so look for an Insulation Displacement Connector (IDC) that has the right number of pins, or one that can be cut to fit over the pins.
    We made a big box with all the loads and connection points, so the SCXI card only has the wires running to it that you need. Then run 22 gauge bundled wire from the connector box to the card, and crimp the wire into the IDC connector.

  • Multiple connections/roles on same machine for same site?

    As a Contribute CS3 Administrator (newbie; just converted a
    Dreamweaver site to work with Contribute), can I set up multiple
    connections to the same site? I want to test the Publisher role and
    Writer role on my development machine before creating connnection
    keys for these roles for the customer who owns the site (and is
    waiting with new Contribute licenses and eager but idle staff)?
    I just want to be able to test my site under these roles
    (using different passwords and username/email addresses), but there
    seems no obvious way to do this as Contribute seems to allow me to
    set up only one connection per URL, and also seems to want to wipe
    out my existing Admin connection if I come on in another role (from
    a connection key generated for a Publisher or Writer role).

    Two problems with that:
    1. Tried it by creating a connection key for a Publisher
    role, but invoking the key zaps the old connection, so I no longer
    have Administrator access without deleting then re-creating the
    connection and setting myself up as Admin again.
    2. When I went into the (new) connection as Publisher, it
    would let me connect and see pages, but would NOT allow editing of
    any pages (even though I had specifically looked when originally
    defining the role to make sure all editing privileges were -- or
    appeared to be -- intact).

  • URGENT:Handle multiple connection in a multithreaded server.

    I hava a multithreaded server where it can handle multiple connection.
    The program works in this way. First, it will wait for connection. Once it accepts a connection, it will pass the socket to a thread class which will in turn process the connection. Then, the server will go back to the infinite loop to wait for new connection.
    Since I am not very familiar on using thread, I would like to post the following questions:
    1) Let say that my server can handle multiple connections. This is to cater for the different requests from the client. For instance, the client may make one connection for chatting and another connection for sending file(something like we have in Yahoo Messanger). So, at the server side, how can I differentiate between the connection for CHAT and the connection for SEND FILE so that I can handle the requests separately. It means I can save the file sent from client and display the chat message in the JTextArea?
    2) How can I stop the server, clean up the thread and start the server again for waiting new connection? Currently, I can just start my server once.
    For reference,following are parts of my program:
    public void listenSocket(){
    try{
    server = new ServerSocket(5000);
    } catch(IOException e) {
    System.out.println("Failed to listen on port 5000");
    System.exit(0);
    try{
    while(true){
    server1frame sframe=null;
    ChatHandler handler;
    handler = new ChatHandler(sframe,server.accept(),jTextArea1,jTextField1,jFileChooser1);
    handler.start();
    } catch(IOException e) {
    System.out.println("Accept failed:5000");
    System.exit(0);
    //to close the connection as the final steps before program exit.
    } finally {
    try{
    server.close();
    } catch (IOException ioe) {
    ioe.printStackTrace();
    public void run() {
    out.println("Connection Established");
    out.flush();
    try {
    String line;
         while(!(line =in.readLine()).equalsIgnoreCase("QUIT")) {
    if(line.startsWith("CLIENT"))
    jTextArea1.append("\n"+line);
    else if(line.startsWith("Connecting")) {
    jTextArea1.append("\n"+line);
    else if (line.startsWith("Finish")) {
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(sframe,"File has finished downloading",
    "File Download Complete",JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);
    else {
    BufferedWriter fout = new BufferedWriter(
    new FileWriter("e:/num1.txt",true));
    fout.write(line);
    fout.newLine();
    fout.flush(); }
         } catch(IOException ioe) {
         ioe.printStackTrace();
         } finally {
         try {
              in.close();
              socket.close();
         } catch(IOException ioe){
    System.out.println("Fail to close connection.");

    1) Let say that my server can handle multiple
    connections. This is to cater for the different
    requests from the client. For instance, the client may
    make one connection for chatting and another
    connection for sending file(something like we have in
    Yahoo Messanger). So, at the server side, how can I
    differentiate between the connection for CHAT and the
    connection for SEND FILE so that I can handle the
    requests separately. It means I can save the file sent
    from client and display the chat message in the
    JTextArea?Either your server listens on two different ports for two different protocolls, (then you would a server thread for each port) or you accept connections for both protocolls on both ports, and have the client state what protocoll it is using :
    eg:
    accept Connection - start new Thread - read first line - depending on protocoll pass protocoll object (CHAT, FTP) to run method
    There is an example for a simple protocoll at : http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/networking/sockets/clientServer.html
    2) How can I stop the server, clean up the thread and
    start the server again for waiting new connection?
    Currently, I can just start my server once.You normally start servers only once. It should then be up and listening for it's entire lifetime. Restarting a server should only be needed if it hangs or crashes.

  • Problems with multiple connections in the same transaction

    Hi all !
              I'm have two questions regarding the way weblogic handles multiple
              connections.
              1) first, I don't understand why weblogic always create a new Managed
              Connection when I'm asking for 2 connection handles on the same connection
              factory and with the same connectionRequestInfo. Isn't it supposed to share
              connections ?
              For instance, the following snippet of code results in the creation of 2
              managed connections:
              ConnHandle conn1 = myCF.getConnection(myRequInfo);
              ConnHandle conn2 = myCF.getConnection(myRequInfo);
              The class corresponding to myRequInfo does implement the equals and hash
              method, so that weblogic's connection manager could use them to check that
              the queried connections are the same, and thus could share a single
              ManagedConnection between multiple connection handles. Apparantly it does
              not do that...
              2) OK, I just let weblogic create the 2 managed connections, but... My use
              of the connections is as part of a transaction. Here is what happens:
              ConnHandle conn1 = myCF.getConnection(myRequInfo);
              // a new managedConn1 is instanciated. the following happens (just a
              description)
              // xar1 = managedConn1.getXAResource()
              // xar1.start(NOFLAGS)
              // I use the conn1 handle
              conn1.close();
              //xar1.end(SUSPEND)
              ConnHandle conn2 = myCF.getConnection(myRequiInfo);
              // a new managed connection managedConn2 is instanciated.
              // xar2 = managedConn2.getXAResource();
              // xar2.start(RESUME)
              // I use conn2 handle
              conn2.close();
              // xar2.end(SUSPEND);
              // my bean returns from the remote invocation
              // the client of the bean asks to commit (using UerTransaction.commit on the
              client side)
              // xar2.end(SUCCESS)
              // xar2.commit(onePhase=true);
              // managedConn2.cleanup();
              And that's all. So, as one can see, managedConn1.cleanup was never called.
              When looking in the weblogic console, I can see that I have one connection
              with 0 handle and one with 1 handle, deemed as still being in a transaction.
              So, the conenction manager apparantly loses a managed connection during the
              transaction. And it's very very bad because after a couple of transactions,
              I'm running out of managed connections (I had set a limit of 10).
              Any one has seen such a weird behavior ? Is this a problem on my side, or
              weblogic's ? Thanks for your help.

              I ran another test. This time I have a bean that makes use of a connector
              once per method invocation. The bean method invoked is "sayHello" and it
              gets a connection to the EIS, perform an operation on it and release it. The
              connector I developed uses XA transactions.
              My test client just calls 3 times myBean.sayHello().
              I can distinguish two cases:
              1) first, the client doesn't do transaction demarcation. In this case, since
              the sayHello method is marked as requiring transaction, the folowing happens
              in the bean:
              // **** first invocation of the bean
              connHandle = myCF.getConnection();
              // managedConn1 is instanciated
              // xar1 = managedConn1.getXAResource()
              // xar1.start(NOFLAGS);
              // managedConn1.getConnection gives a connection handle
              connHandle.doSomeWork();
              connHandle.close()
              // xar1.end(SUCCESS);
              // the bean returns from its invocation
              // xar1.commit(onePhase=true)
              // managedConn1.cleanup()
              // **** second invocation of the bean
              connHandle = myCF.getConnection();
              // managedConnectionFactory.matchManagedConnection is called. It returns the
              managed connection (managedConn1) that is in the passed set
              // xar1 = managedConn1.getXAResource()
              // xar1.start(NOFLAGS);
              // managedConn1.getConnection gives a connection handle
              connHandle.doSomeWork();
              connHandle.close
              // xar1.end(SUCCESS);
              // the bean returns from its invocation
              // xar1.commit(onePhase=true)
              // managedConn1.cleanup()
              // **** third invocation of the bean
              connHandle = myCF.getConnection();
              // managedConnectionFactory.matchManagedConnection is called. It returns the
              managed connection (managedConn1) that is in the passed set
              // xar1 = managedConn1.getXAResource()
              // xar1.start(NOFLAGS);
              // managedConn1.getConnection gives a connection handle
              connHandle.doSomeWork();
              connHandle.close
              // xar1.end(SUCCESS);
              // the bean returns from its invocation
              // xar1.commit(onePhase=true)
              // managedConn1.cleanup()
              2) second case : the client performs transaction demarcation. In that case,
              the connection manager instanciates 3 managed connections, calls start/end
              on each XAResource corresponding to each managed connection, calls commit
              once, but also calls cleanup only once, leaving 2 lost managed connections
              The client looks like this:
              UserTransaction utx = context.lookup("javax/transaction/UserTransaction");
              utx.begin();
              MyBean myBean = ctx.lookup(".......");
              myBean.sayHello();
              myBean.sayHello();
              myBean.sayHello();
              utx.commit();
              on the server the following happens:
              // **** first invocation of the bean
              connHandle = myCF.getConnection();
              // managedConn1 is instanciated
              // xar1 = managedConn1.getXAResource()
              // xar1.start(NOFLAGS);
              // managedConn1.getConnection gives a connection handle
              connHandle.doSomeWork();
              connHandle.close()
              // xar1.end(SUSPEND);
              // the bean returns from its invocation
              // **** second invocation of the bean
              connHandle = myCF.getConnection();
              // managedConn2 is instanciated
              // xar2 = managedConn2.getXAResource()
              // xar1.isSameRM(xar2) is called. returns true
              // xar2.start(RESUME);
              // managedConn2.getConnection gives a connection handle
              connHandle.doSomeWork();
              connHandle.close()
              // xar2.end(SUSPEND);
              // the bean returns from its invocation
              // **** third invocation of the bean
              connHandle = myCF.getConnection();
              // managedConn3 is instanciated
              // xar3 = managedConn3.getXAResource()
              // xar2.isSameRM(xar3) is called. returns true
              // xar3.start(RESUME);
              // managedConn3.getConnection gives a connection handle
              connHandle.doSomeWork();
              connHandle.close()
              // xar3.end(SUSPEND);
              // the bean returns from its invocation
              // the client invokes commit on the UserTransaction
              // xar3.end(SUCCESS);
              // xar3.commit(onephase = true);
              // managedConn3.cleanup();
              And so, managedConn1 and managedConn2 got lost in the way...
              What's more puzzling, it's that when monitoring my connector with the
              console, I can see that there are 3 connections. 2 declared as still having
              one handle used and being in transaction, and one not in transaction and
              with 0 active handle. BUT when monitoring the JTA part of the server, I can
              see that there has been 1 transaction that committed, and no connection is
              "in flight" as the console says. So, on one side the console says 2 managed
              connections are still part of a transaction while on the other it says that
              no transactions are currently in flight.
              Thanks for any kind of help on this very bizarre behavior.

  • Can we open multiple connections to APNS Feedback Server

    Hi,
    Is it recommended/allowed to open multiple connections to APNS feedback server to poll the bad tokens?
    The idea is to run a timer task (every hour) on a n application server which will poll the apns feedback server to retrieve the bad tokens and then close the connection every one hour from N app srevers.
    If it is allowed, can multiple parallel connection get the same bad device tokens connected/read at same time?

    You are literally correct in that IP addresses can be spoofed.
    But the same argument can be made about any single, known, form of security.
    If I know it is the fingerprint from your left index finger that is required ... I've no doubt I can break in if I want to badly enough. Sorry about the finger.
    Security comes from layering multiple, unknown, security measures.
    Mix invited nodes with a known userid
    SELECT sys_context('USERENV', 'OS_USER') FROM dual;
    and the hacker has to know both a valid IP address and who is supposed to be there.
    Now on top of that add the operating system information:
    SELECT sys_context('USERENV', 'TERMINAL') FROM dual;
    and it becomes a bit more difficult.
    Layer on a few more and it becomes exceedingly unlikely anyone will get in that doesn't belong there.

  • Static ConnectionPool to service multiple Connections

    I have a Singleton Class ConnectionPool that services multiple

              static ConnectionPool instance;
              static hashtable pools;
              getInstance();

              class MsgConn {

              release()
              } // Inner Class ends
              Only connection handles ( they are thread safe, no synchronization
              required) are returned and client servlet create receiver and sender

              Client servlet call getInstance() and make getConn() and releaseConn()

  • Multiple connections from 6i

    IS it possible to connect to oracle and an ODBC connection simultaneously from one data block?
    Any suggestions?

    I figured that the NAT item did not apply, but with some of the weird things that have gone on with the concentrator I just never know.
    The problem is how PPTP works and that it is not smart enough to allow the multiple connections from the same ip. I had to move this client site over to IPSEC using the Cisco VPN client. This works cleanly and actually seems better then the PPTP connection, but that is besides the point. The whole issue was a part of PPTP that I did not know about. I had to open a TAC case for someone at Cisco to tell me this in about 15 seconds.
    Hope this makes sense

  • Query about multiple connection pools under one database

    Hi,
    I have s query about connection pool, now we have a requirement,
    we have two schemas in one db, some data store in one schema, some in another schema,
    all tables are the same, but data is different, we want to retrive all data under two schemas,
    so we need two connection pools under one database,
    I have set two system DSN, and each connection pool was mapping to one DSN,
    but after I importing tables into RPD, when I view data, there is a dialog let me select connection pool. so If this, when we drag columns in answer, it will definitely get wrong.
    so how to realize this function about multiple connection pools under one database and we can get data normally.

    Hi,
    Try this step
    1)Better to create two different DSN for the same database with different user id and password
    2)now create multiple connection pool in the same database in u r RPD physical layer .
    also refer this link : for imporving performance

  • Single  bill for multiple connections

    Dear All,
    Is it possible to print single bill for multiple connections ? This is my requirement Customer X having 2 connections for Water and 2 connections for Electricity.But we need to bill Electricity and water in a different bill ,but 2 connections for water and 2 connections for electricity should be billed in a single bill.We have created a separate contract accounts for 4 connections.
    Pls guide...
    Best Regards
    Jay

    Hi,
    I am not sure, if i completely understand your requirement.
    But as per my understanding, you have 4 installations, ( 2 for Water and 2 for Electricity) and you want to have a single invoice created for Electircity and water.
    So, its better to create a single contract account with multiple contracts.
    If you are creating multiple contract accounts, then it would create multiple invoices (one per contract account - regular scenario). So, please have a multiple contracts with single CA.
    Also, if you want to invoice all the contracts together, please find the option on contract for joint invoicing. (option 1).
    And, in case you want to bill two connections of electricity as one entity and two of water as one, so in this case, have two contract accounts one for Electricity and one as a part of water. And assign all the electricity contract to one CA and rest of water to another CA.
    Invoices are always created at contract account level and the billing documents are created at contract level.
    Hope this helps !!

  • How to use multiple connections for xcelsius dashboard via toggle button

    Can anyone shed some light on how to apply a toggle button for multiple connections using xcelsius dashboard.
    I created two SAP connections in my xcelsius dashboard.  The first connection uses query 1 (bottom ten customers) and the second connection uses query 2 (top ten customers).  I wanted to use a toggle button where the user would click Top Ten customers versus Bottom Ten customers.  Which ever the user clicks in the toggle botton would run that query.
    If the toggle button is not the way to handle this can someone explain a better approach to run either query in the same dashboard.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Hi,
    I've never had to do this so have no practical experience.  However in theory you should be able to do the following (assuming the data connection type youu2019re using has the "Usage" tab):
    Set up the two connections as normal - On the usage tab set the detail query to Refresh before components are loaded and make sure that this is unchecked for the other query.  Set both queries to populate the same range so that one query will overwrite the other in the Xcelsius spreadsheet.
    Bind a toggle button to a cell e.g. A1
    Back to the data connections again and set the "Refresh on trigger" trigger cell to A1.  And set the "When Value Becomes" to either "On" or "Off" dependent on how you've set up the toggle button.  Repeat for the other query.
    Hope this helps,
    Paul

  • WDSMCAST multiple connections 0x800704C3

    We are using WDSMCast.exe to image our computers with Multicast. I do not want to put the password for the command in plane text. WDSMCast says that if you don't specify the /username parameter, it uses the current user credentials.  Those happen to
    the be the system account from Windows PE for a non-domain computer. If it were a domain computer, I might be able to specify "domain computer" as a permission on the reminst share.  But alas, I cannot.
    WDSMCast.exe is being run from a \\server\deployment share.  The drive is being mapped to letter I using a password encryptor tool (loginw.exe).  The I drive maps to the same server that WDS is installed
    to.  When I run WDSMcast.exe without specifying the /username parameter, it uses the same credentials to connect to the
    \\server\reminst share. It can access all the wim image files on there, but I'm guessing it then fails to authenticate to the transport server with the error "Can't find the file specified".
    When I do specify the username parameter, it complains about multiple connections to the same server, even though the same account is used here as was used on the drive map.
    I understand that I can add wdsmcast to the boot image so I don't have to map a drive to that.  However, there are other scripts, as well as driver stores on the non-reminst share that are needed before and after the multicasting command.  There
    is only one deployment server per site and I do not want to pull drivers and other software over the WAN.
    So, is there any way to disable authentication on the transport server such that a non-domain system account from WinPE can connect to and image from a WDS server?  I would imagine that if imaging must be done from WinPE that Microsoft allowed for this.
    I remember back in the Ghost days you didn't need any credentials to connect to a Ghost multicast session.

    Hi,
    There is a way of disabling the authentication on the transport server at the WinPe phase, you can add a component:
    Microsoft-Windows-PnpCustomizationsWinPE_6.1, then go to the Credentials part, like the screenshot below:
    Note: If the username is not a domain account, the computer name should be used instead of the domain.
