Multiple entries in hierarchy variable

hi,
The user requirement is like this.
He is executing a report which has one standard hierarchy variable & another standard node variable and he is clicking on F4 on first hierachy variable and selecting one hierarchy , let us say the hierarchy is like this:
  AAAA
   BBBBBB
   CCCCCC
    DDDDDDD
   XXXXXX
   YYYYYY
    LLLLLLL
     IIIIIIII
    TTTTTTT
Let us say he selected the hierarchy AAAA and he selected DDDDDDD in node variable. But what is his question is can he select multiple nodes in the variable like can he select DDDDDDD and LLLLLLL nodes and get the results for these two nodes or not.
I don't know whether this is possible or not.
Please advise.
Thanks .

hi,
As i stated earlier , it is a sap standard variable. So it is not allowing me to change variable settings from single value to selection option or any thing. If you want to know the properties of it.I can tell you that:
1)In the Details, Variable represents Single value and variable entry is optional but optional can be changed but single value is greyed out.
I hope you understood all the details.
Any ideas???
Thanks in advance.

  • Mass / Multiple entries in Web variables

    Hi experts,
i am looking for a possibility to upload mass/multiple selection entries in variables (web queries). I didn't find standard functionality like in Excel to upload variable entries via .txt file or copy from clipboard.
Does anyone know how to do it or how to enhance standard functionality?
In addition to that is it possible to save selection entries as variants in web variables?
We are currently working on SAP BW 3.5 and WAS.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    regards Gunnar

Unfortunately, there is no standard functionality in BW 3.5. Both issues are adressed with NW2004s:
From SP 9 it is possible to save variants on the variable screen.
With SP12 there should be a new function to upload text files into the selection.

  • Multiple node selection in Hierarchy Variable

    Hi Experts,
I have a requirement for the capability to select the multiple node in the BPS variable of type hierarchy. This is required in the data slice where my administrator want to select the more than one node at a time for the purpose of locking the transaction records of deferent departments with slice. I see only option to select one node in variable but I would like to know if there are any ways to enhance this variable to select the multiple node...some exit or some thing.
Any valid suggestions will be fully rewarded with points.
    Thanks,
    Raj.

    Hi Jain
Thanks for your input. Following is exact requirement for me.
I have fund center hierarchy and each text node represents one department and all the fund centers under it. Plan administrator wants to lock each department when they are done with the planning. I can achieve this by preparing one data slice for each department and administrator can activate this when they want to lock department but this generates lot of data slices, which may impact the performance of the system a lot.
Other option I am thinking of is the possibility to use hierarchy variable in data slice to select the multiple departments that are required to be locked at any point in time, so that I can manage this with one variable.
Other option is selecting individual fund center values  in variables but that is completely ruled out for the given volume.
If I understand your suggestion right, you are suggesting to create the custom table to store different node values from the hierarchy and use the exit variable in data slice. IF you have any document/code to achieve this, please let me know.
let me know if you have any other simple way to achieve this.
    Thanks,
    Raj.

  • Can I combine multiple entries into a single statement?

I am relatively new to Live Cycle so forgive my lack of technical wording.
I would like to use multiple entry fields to fill in a statement.
    For example:
I'd like the user to see this:
Target Dropdown     Endo Dropdown     Type Dropdown     Version # Entry     Date 1 Entry     Date 2 Entry
and then have the form merge all that together into a line that looks like this:
    RS_(target)_(endo)_(type)\(version)_(date)_(date)
Preferably without repeating information on the page as we'll have multiple of these entries and the page will get hectic quick.
    Is this possible?
I first had each dropdown in individual table fields, but due to regulations we follow the entries need to be merged without spaces.
I always have a backup if this can't be done, but any help is appreciated.

Not sure where you're sending it, but if you have a global variable named "bob".
    bob.value = "RS_"+target.rawValue+"_"+endo.rawValue+"_"+type.rawValue+"\"+version.rawValue+"_"+date.r awValue+"_"+date2.rawValue;
    Something like that should work.

  • URGENT::Hierarchy Variable creating Problem in WAD

    Hi,
I am using Profit Center as Hierarchy variable in my Queries, when i run the report in WAD portal, and select the profit center on the selection screen, after clicking the check button it appears with compounding Characteristic Controlling Area as prefix.
In the back end for the Profit Center Hierarchy data each node has Controlling Area attached with profit center(value), whereas in master data for profit center we don't have controlling area attached with profit center(value).
For eg: if the Profit center has value P0001 has the controlling area is CA01 then the master data of profit center shows the value as P0001 whereas when we look at Hierarchal nodes it displays as CA01P0001 along with its description.
So when we run the Query we dont get any data because it shows that profit center CA01P0001 node does not exist in Hierarchy.
But in Analyser Query is working fine.
    Please suggest some solution.
    Thanks in Advance.

  • Cannot enter value in selection screen for Hierarchy variable.

    Hi All,
I have a hierarchy variable on the selection screen for Org unit.
When i execute the report via Bex or RSRT i am able to enter the value directly into the selection screen input field without going for F4 help and then selecting the value.
But when the same query is used in web template and executed the input field for the variable on the selection screen is greyed out and doesnt allow to type in the value. Only way to fill in the value is via F4 help.
Can anyone tell why is this happening and is there any way this can be changed?
    Thanks in advance.
    -RJ

    Hi Prakash,
I am not able to select or click on the input field of the selection screen before and after selecting the value
    CTRL+K doesnt work for me.
The display field is populated only when i select a node from the F4 help screen.
When executed from RSRT the field is highlighted and i am able to enter the value unlike when executed on web browser.
The variable is Mandatory multiple single value readu for input.
I found an article saying that for hierarchy node variables the values are forced by F4 value help as the values that are entered manually might not be unique.
    This is the link

I would like to know if there is a work around or setting that can be made to make it work?

  • Hierarchy variable in BEx

Hey, is there a way to make a BEx characteristic variable that has hierarchies available so that the user can select between several hierachies and not just within the one? i.e. 0costelmnt has several hierarchies available but when you set up a variable you can only use one hierarchy.
    Thanks in advance,
    A. Berkey

If I understand your question correctly, at query runtime, you want to enable the user to just be able to select an entire hierarchy (w/o regard to hierarchy nodes).  You need use (or create) a hierarchy variable by right-clicking "cost element" and selecting either:
    A). Properties
Click the hierarchy field and select the checkbox for variable entry.
    or
    B). Restrict
Go to the hierarchy tab of the restrict dialog window and choose the hierarchy variable.
As a more detailed scenario, you may want a user to be able to choose which cost element hierarchy to be used within the query.  Additionally, you may want the user to be able to choose a particular node(s) of the selected hierarchy.
To create this scenario (user picks hierarchy and node of selected hierarchy):  Create/use a hierarchy node variable on cost element (this can be done by right-clicking "cost element",choosing "restrict", and proceeding to the hierarchy tab of the restrict dialog window).  After selecting the variable, right-click, and choose "Select variable hierarchy".
At runtime, the user should now be prompted with two variable fields, one for the hierarchy, and one for the hierarchy node.
Note:  Within query properties, set the order of the variables where the "hierarchy" variable precedes "hierarchy node" variable.  This is useful as the values of "hierarchy node" are driven from the selected "hierarchy".
    Also,
For more info on variable, please refer to http://help.sap.com.

  • Dimension based on hierarchy variable not showing attributes

    Hi all.
I created a BEx query with a hierarchy variable on 0MATERIAL ready for input, so that when I execute the query it prompts me to select one of the hierarchies node. I created a universe on top of this query and the prompt is also present in the universe, as it should be. When I execute the webi report selecting on of the hierarchies available there is no problem. But when I execute the webi report without selecting any hierarchies (I want the report to show without the hierarchy bahavior), the dimension L01 material shows the values, but the L01 Material details are all empty.
Anybody know a solution for this problem?
Using BO XI 3.1 SP2 latest fixpack available.
    Regards,
    André

    Hi Ingo.
I think I may not be able to generate this log, the basis team refuses to change the registry entries on Windows server. Are there other ways you can analyse this problem?
I think this problem is related to the fact that the dimensions L00 to L06 have a select statement like .[LEVEL01].. and the details are like .[LEVEL01].[[20MATERIAL]].[Value], and when we run the webi report without choosing any value for the hierarchy, the !V000006 is not being properly substitute to "0MATERIAL". But this is a hunch. I tested creating a dimension with select statement .[LEVEL01] and substituting the details as well, then it works, but this is not a solution, because this "adaptation" leads to others problems and errors executing the report.

  • LSMW Recording for CLW1 - Multiple entries

    Hi,
I am doing a recording in LSMW for Tcode CLW1.   This I thought was relatively simple but I have an issue with the second screen after the first screen is processed.  The second screen has multiple entries for this Hierarchy level.  I am reading an excel spreadsheet that the users created for the Hierarchy level assignments.  There are multiple records for the same Hierarchy level but with different Hierarchy level assignments that need to populate the second screen.   Also, I don't know how many entries this second screen will take for the HL assignments.  I know one of the business users told me one Hierarchy level has 98 different HL assignments!  I have searched on the internet and in the forum to try and find the resolution to this problem, with no luck yet.  I am hoping someone out there has had this same issue.   I know I can add a loop to the LSMW code but I'm not sure how to handle it.   I am new to LSMW (Also ABAP only a year) and am learning but need a little guidance if possible or maybe some code examples.
Thanks for you time and knowledge in advance!

    Hi,
The same problem we have faced.  As it is having multiple entries in second level.  It is easy to do with BDC Program than LSMW.  U can use table control logic in BDC, So that You can easily upload the data.
    Rewardpoint if useful.

  • Hierarchy variable for the char

    Hi All,
Can v creat the Hierarchy variable for the char who does not hav the heir. another thing is whats the procedure to create the hierarchy variable bcoz when i select the char to create the variable its showing var of type char. how i hav to change it to hierarchy.
    Thanx

    hie,
i think i understood what you want.
I think you can achieve this by following way.
    1) create a text variable for user entry. For which user enters values 2,    3, or 4 as you said.
    2) create a dummy calculated key figure and assign this text variable to its description
    3) when query will execute, user inputs values 2 or 3 or 4 which will be reflected in the output in the title of the new dummy KF.
    4) then write a macro to read that value and delete 1 or 2 or 3 columns  from output as necessary before user can access the actual results.

  • Transporting Hierarchy Variables

    Hi,
In the Report I have a free Characteristcs Cost Center. In the selection Screen for this Cost Center we have Provided Selection from Hierachy view and range for Cost Center. We transported this hierarchy variables to target system. The transport is succefully completed .But the New variable change is not reflecting in the Target System query. Can anybody please help.

    Hi All,
We have one more similar  issue while transporting our requests. We have added two info obiects in the free characterisitics pane.We have collected query in a transport request .and transported it from Development to Quality. The query exists in active as well as modified version in both dev and Quality. But the query elements which we have added exist only in modified version in Quality. Our changes are not getting reflected in Quality.Do we have to collect the active entry for that query element and transport it in order to make it active in Quality?Could someone pls help me out with this?

    Hi,
    Refer this

When you maintain a local variable for a hierarchy node, you only need to enter the replacement type. If you want, you can also enter an identifier for the variable. For variables for hierarchies, you can only maintain an identifier, since replacement is automatically mandatory.
When you maintain global hierarchy variables and choose replacement type "2" (replacement by manual entry), be sure to enter "3" (Mandatory variable which is not blank (technical)) in the field Optional entry.
    Hope this helps

  • Profit Center Hierarchy Variable-Prompt

    Hello,
I'm using a heirarchy variable in BEx 7.0 query designer that is based on a profit center hierarchy object. When I execute the query, and I get prompted to choose nodes of the hierarchy, I'm only able to "include" nodes but I'm not able to "exlcude" nodes. Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Michelle

Remove the varaible for the hierarchy and try executing it.
If you remove the Hierarchy variable from the query and execute the query ,user should only get the nodes to which he is restticted it could be 1 node or multiple.
Hope you had kept Type of Authorization = " 1" Subtree below nodes in RSECADMIN of the auth object for profit center for the particular node
    Hope it Helps

  • BPS - Hierarchy variable: limitations in planning folders...

    Hi,
We are using a variable of type hierachy for the selection of the cost centers within the planning folders across our cost center planning application.
We are using a hierarchy with roundabout 5000 cost centers. The variable forces the user to expand the hierarchy to the desired level in order to select the cost center. There is no way to enter the cost
center manually when using the hierarchy variable, and no search function is available to find a cost center in the hierarchy.
Those are cumbersome limitations especially when users are used to the R/3 or BW hierarchy search.
Is there any way BPS can allow for direct input (in addition to selection via the hierarchy) when using hierarchy variables, or a least a search function?
    Thanks!!
    Olivier

I don't know if this will help in your situation but I have a similar variable based on Profit Centre.  Within the hierarchy the users are responsible for a small number of Profit Centre Groups (defined as hierarchy nodes in the tree).  I have set the variable as user specific and each user has the Profit Centre Groups assigned that they are responsible for.
This variable is then linked to a variable selector, as a dropdown, within my web app and only allows the user to select Profit Centre Groups they are responsible for.  When an entry is chosen the Profit Centres below that part of the hierarchy are displayed in the layout.
