Multiple file associations

I would like to open NEFs in either Photoshop or Nikon Capture NX2 (depending on the picture). I would like to be able to have Photoshop as my default application, so that if I double-click on the thumbnail, the picture will open in Photoshop. But I would like the option to "open with" NX2. I have been playing with "file type associations," and have not been able to accomplish this. It appears that I have two options:
Have Photoshop as the default, and not be able to "open with" NX2 -- OR -- have both options to "open with" but with NX2 as the default (so that a double-click will open NX2).
Is there a way to accomplish what I want? If not, can it be added?
Thank you?

I suppose the first option is a way round it, but I have two very definite types of file I'd like to associate my application with, and I'd like to give them a different icon each rather than the same one.
Also when i include multiple association tags - even with different filetypes and mime-type associations - webstart 6.0 always crashes with the error below. The only change I make is commenting in or out a second assocation tag in my jnlp file, and given the trace below it appears the association tags are the cause, so I don't know if this is just the dtd with an error, it appears to be enforced in the javaws code too.

  • JNLP - how to do multiple file associations?

hello, trying to find a way of associating my jnlp file with multiple file extensions through the <association> tag
I've found jnlp file examples on the web that merely have multiple <association> tags, but in the latest webstart version 6.0 this seems to be illegal - the dtd has <association?> listed, meaning one or no association elements. Lo and behold, trying multiple <association> tags just crashes webstart - it won't run my application.
    Any way round this?

  • File associations in Bridge CS4 for multiple images

After a "cache purge" my file associations got altered.  I can go into Edit>preferences> file associations and change that to photoshop; but if I click MULTIPLE images in Bridge and right click "open with" I only get Illustrator as an option.  How can I change this to photoshop as a default when trying to open MULTIPLE images?

Ronald Keller - thank you.  I am practically in tears laughing about how something so completely simple has had me fretting for days.  Could it be my over 60 mind has completely failed me now, or is it I am just a bit rusty on using my software?  Anyway, thank you for taking the time to offer up this response!

  • File Type Association fails when opening multiple files from Bridge to Premiere

I'm running Vista 32 bit CS3 Bridge and Premiere.
    According to the Video workshop
    http://www.adobe.com/designcenter-archive/video_workshop/
under Premiere > all 19 topics > Managing Media in Adobe Premiere Pro > at 02:46 it shows group selecting a bunch of quicktime files using Edit > Select all, then File > Open With ...the drop down shows Premiere.
Mine only show Premiere if a single file is selected. If I multiple select, it only shows Quicktime Player 7.6.
I've checked the file type association in preferences of Bridge to open these files in Premiere but it still only sees Premiere if a single file is selected.
I've upgraded Bridge to 2.1.1.9 and set to run as Administrator but to no avail.
    Any ideas?

Import has always worked fine. this is not the issue.
I have now changed the file association in Vista, re-started Premiere and Bridge and then after having started just Premiere chose File > Browse and the selected all the .mov files and selected Open With. Hurrah! Premiere is now listed!
However, If I continue the focus changes to Premiere but a warning appears "This file path does not exist on disk at this location".
Nothing is imported. Unlike the video workshop mentioned above.
If however, I chose Open and not Open with then the files are imported.
Seems to be a bug with Open with with more than one file chosen. If a single file is chosen and Open With is applied then the focus changes to Premiere but no file is imported.
I have seen the exact same problem in another discusion "Re: Bridge CS3: Not importing clips into Premiere CS3" (see the More Like This panel on the rightside of this window)

  • Ability to add multiple apps to Open With file associations

It would be extremely helpful if Bridge's "file association" dialog allowed one to associate multiple applications with a file type, so the Open With function worked like Lightroom's Edit In function which allows the use of multiple external editors.  As it is currently designed, only one new "default" association can be changed/added.   A current list of other available "editors" also appears in the Open With context menu, but it is unclear (at least to me) where that list comes from because there are some pretty strange entries in the list for any specific file type.
    Thanks

Agreed -- I've always been curious as to what random generator Bridge uses to assign programs with file types.

  • Multiple LabView versions and file associations

I know this is a Windows problem more than a LabView problem but...
I have LV 8.21, 8.6, and 2009 installed and seemingly Lv 8.6 is the only version that is associated with .vi .lvprog, and the other LV files.
Really makes it a P.I.A. when doubble clicking on a LV 2009 project file and LV 8.6 starts.
I have tried changing the associations to the labview.exe in the Lv 2009 directory but it does not change the Windows file associations.
Has anyone else delt with this and come up with a soultion?

Here is my solution. (And, incidentally, the one point I DRIVE home to my co-wirers at work!)
Never ever ever open a LabVIEW object from Windows explorer!  Always open them from the IDE.
    Sea-Story time
Once upon a time I migrated from LabVIEW 5.1 to 6.i followed almost immidiatly by 7.0 (finally a stable VISA API) and in 3 months we jumped to 7.1.  4 versions in 6-9 months with projects in each.  With 8 developers and 15 test stations all "synchronized" to a single SCC database.  We learned some painful lessons about version control.  After a few weeks of Windows choosing randomly what version of LabVIEW to launch each vi in we had pretty thoroughly corrupted the libraries on every machine.  Reuse Vic's from 5.1 recompiled to 7.0, vi's in 7.1 cross linked to sub vi's in the 6.i area etc.... NIGHTMARE!  We actually SHUT DOWN the lab for about 10 days while we reconstructed ALL of our code and re-assembled the SCC database from the ground up.
At the risk of repeating myself- in a multiple version environment Never ever ever open a LabVIEW object from Windows explorer!  Always open them from the IDE.
In a single version environment - Never ever ever open a LabVIEW object from Windows explorer!  Always open them from the IDE. it will teach you bad habits the will hurt later.

  • How can I upload multiple files in a master detail relationship?

I would like to be able to upload several files for one record (a one to many relationship). I tried using a master detail form, but the tabular form does not support file browse. I've searched the forum and found several examples asking how to upload multiple files at once. That is not what I'm trying to do. I simply want the user to browse, select a file, provide a file name and description. Then select the next file. When they are done selecting files (it may be one file or many files) I want them to hit the submit button and I'll run a procedure that saves the files to the database.
How can I do this? Thanks, you guys are the best. Elizabeth

    Elizabeth,
I had this situation come up once and here's what I did, thought it may not be exactly what you're looking for.
I created a collection to store the ID's of the files that had been uploaded, along with the key and other information. The file browse input will upload your files into the wwv_flow_files table on submit. I was storing the documents in another application table.
The after submit process grabs the id from wwv_flow_files where the name is = to your file input.
After you add that ID and your associated master key in the collection, your final submit process fetches the files from wwv_flow_files and inserts them into your own table.
I can put an example on apex.oracle.com if that would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Delete Previous Version - file associations

Have a question on file association problems when deleteing previous version of PS.
For example user bought CS5 and  installed.  File Associations now changed by defauilt to CS5.
If user un-installs CS4, the file associations now revert back to CS4, even though that version is not on computer.
Changing file associations is Bridge and in the OS does not solve file association problem.
One either has to uninstall PS and wipe Adobe files, then re-install latest version, or go into OS registry and make changes.  Registry changes can be difficult for many.
I am sure when CS6 is released we will again have this same scenero, as outlined above, repeated unless the code has been changed.
The question is:  In CS6 will this bug have been eliminated?

Just because it's happend to multiple people doesn't make it not machine or user specific (a problem with user permissions on one computer can happen on another as well). I've never seen this behavior on any of my systems and I have to install and uninstall random versions of the software all the time. The most recently installed version of the software should always have the file type associations, regardless of what versions have been removed.
Have you been able to reproduce the issue on your own machine during testing?

  • Process Multiple Files in Bridge

I am trying to process multiple files in Bridge CS3 using Photoshop Elements 9.  It does not give me an error, it just does nothing.  Can someone help me figure out how to fix this?  It used to do this now I am having problems.

Can someone help me figure out how to fix this?  It used to do this now I am having problems.
Without knowing your workflow or your OS to my knowledge Bridge CS3 is not designed for Photoshop Elements 9 but for Photoshop CS3. There used to be a Bridge CS4 version bundled with PSElements 8 for a Mac but thats all I know about it.
However if you want to open files from Bridge in PS Elements you should either select the files you want and with right mouse click menu choose open with and from the submenu choose PSElements 9 or go to the Bridge preferences file type associations and change the file type you need in PSE to open in PSE9 by default.
If this is not the answer you expected could you be more specific about OS (windows/Mac) and what you mean with process (raw settings, batch actions or just open in, etc.)

  • Multiple file formats and stacking

Like many on this forum I need to keep track of the original RAW and other formats of the same file. This is for several reasons:
    1. I have a large number of already converted RAW files into JPG and TIFF files, which I want to manage in the LR library.
    2. As I go forward in time, I want to keep my RAW files, with the associated metadata edits and an exported JPG or TIFF copy, which is used by other programs and sent to others on short notice. I want the LR library to manage these as well. I do not want to have to go through an LR export process every time I want to use a JPG or TIFF in another application.
At present, if I rename the JPG and TIFF files (ie filename_LR.JPG) then I can import them into the same folder. However, the auto-stack feature does not work for a capture time between stacks of zero seconds, even though the capture time is the same. The program logic appears to be (greater than 0) where it should be (greater than or equals 0). If I set the capture time between stacks to 1 second then I get multiple different photos in the stack when there is less than 1 second between captures.
LR team - please give this some thought. I am confident you can come up with an elegant solution to the multiple file copies in the same or diferent formats, and a grouping mechanism, preferably in addition to the stacking feature (the stacking feature appears to really be meant to group similar photos). This feature should work in conjunction with import. The grouping of multiple file versions at the same capture time should also work across folders, so that LR does not impose upon existing file management structures.
    Thanks
    Rory

  • HT2470 how would i go about taking multiple files from documents and make them part of 1 master file

how would i go about taking multiple files from documents and make them into 1 master file? I want to put all documents associated with this project together for easier access.

From the finder window, click File, click new folder, you can drag all documents into that Folder making it the master folder. You can ajso drag folders into the Master folder, and have them as sub-folders if you wish to  do that. Either way they will all be in one master folder.

  • 10.4.7 update screws up image file associations

Since installing the 10.4.7 update, all my image files now open in Preview as the default application, regardless of Type or Creator.
I know that the file association of an individual can be changed via Get Info, however, I have 11,000+ image files in various formats as well as several thousand PDFs scattered across three hard drive, and do not want to waste several days tracking them all down and changing their file associations manually.
I know that the "Change All" button in the Get Info panel is supposed to change all documents of a given type to the selected application, however, the "Change All" function seems to be broken because hitting "Change All" simply reverts everything to Preview.
Deleting Preview does not solve the problem, as everything then defaults to Image Tricks; deleting Image Tricks simply defaults everything to Color Sync; deleting Color Sync defaults everything to Graphic Converter, which is fine for JPEGS, but I need Photoshop files to open in Photoshop, Illustrator files to open in Illustrator, etc.
Is there a script or other simple way of changing the default application for various file types at the system level, i.e., so that .JPG always open in Graphic Converter, .PSD and .TIF in Photoshop, .PDF in Acrobat Reader, etc.?
    Thanks.
    2.0 GHz G5 Dual

Well, I had it happen to me again yesterday, i.e., all graphics files defaulting to Preview. I changed them back using the procedure I used earlier, but if this continues, it's going to be a MAJOR problem.
    Even after you selected, for
example, Graphic Converter as the default application
in the Open With pop-up menu, per step 3 in "Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Changing
the application that opens a document."
Unfortunately, no, not even after selecting Graphic Converter as the default app in the Open With menu.
    I think you
mean Show Inspector, which is Command-Option-I, vs.
Command-I for Get Info. The Inspector displays
common info for a selection of objects, so you can
change the default app for multiple files in one
    window.
Hmm ... I get the same "Multiple Item Info" panel whether I hit Command-I and Command-Option-I if I have more than 10 files selected. In any case, I hit Command-I to bring up the Multiple Item Info panel.
    3. The anomalies you described are very strange. As
a general check, run the Procedure specified in my
    "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache
Corruption" FAQ. I'd recommend at least running
    Steps 1-3.
I'll give it a go. Thanks!

  • .jnlp file association

We have a JNLP application. A recent Java7 upgrade seems to have removed the file association between javaws.exe and .jnlp files. We have experienced this on multiple client machines. On one, Windows would not all us to create the association through the normal means of "Open With...".
    Is this a known issue?

Our workaround was to update the registry manually (obligatory warning about doing this on your machine!)
    Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\javaws.exe\shell\open\command
Then edit that value to point to a 32-bit javaws.exe – this one happens to be in the jre7 folder:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\javaws.exe" "%1"In addition to this check if there is association for .jnlp in the HKCU branch. If you ever tried "Open with" then windows will add association to user branch and it will hide system wide settings.
Good way to troubleshoot this is to use Process Monitor from sysinternals.com and inspect what .jnlp related registry keys are read.
Please file a bug if you can find a way to reproduce a problem or will find out what exactly is wrong in the registry.

  • Can't change "Open with" for multiple files

For some reason, all swfs on my computer won't open in the Flash player that came with Flash 9. If I select 1 swf and set it to open with the player, it will work, however, if I select multiple ones, get info and try to set them all to open in the player (or "Change All") I get a dialogue saying I don't "have privileges to change the application for these documents only. Do you want to change all similar documents to open with the application Flash Player.app?" This is rediculous because I could so this in Tiger just fine. Also, I'm the admin and i'm in MY account, so I should be able to do anything I want, right?
Any insights? I've repaired disk permissions by the way.
    Dan P.

This is sometimes a problem with the launchservices database. You can try the following to fix it:
    Rebuild LaunchServices Database
    For Tiger users
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt paste in the following command in its entirety:
/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServic es.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
    Press RETURN.
    For Leopard users
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt paste in the following command in its entirety:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
    Press RETURN.
If this isn't successful then there may be other problems involved. You can try this:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
You can install the freeware preference pane, RCDefaultApp - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - which is useful for extensive control over various file associations.
