Multiple from e-mailaddresses / one account / iphone configuration utility
I trie to configure my e-mail account on my iphone. This works fine, when there is one e-mailaddress per account. But when I want to configure it to have multiple from-e-mailaddresses aka aliases I can choose to sent my mail from, there I stuck.
What I tried till now but without any success is
use the "name1 <[email protected]>, name2 <[email protected]>" syntax
leaf it blank and do it manually when the profile is installed, what works, but still just for one e-mailaddress
who could help?
thx for your answer
at the provider end every thing is configured the way it should
you know the way to configure other e-mail-addresses in iOS manually: Preferences > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > yourMailAccount > yourMailAccount > E-Mail yourEMailAddress
There you can put in your aliases, which enables you to select, from which address you send your e-mail from
the same thing you can do in Apple Mail, with the "name1 [email protected], name2 [email protected]" syntax entered in the Email Address field in Account Information in the preferences
But what to do, if you want to configure your iPhone with the iphone configuration utility?
if you leaf the from-address blank, you can enter just one address, the above mentioned syntax, that works for Apple Mail, doesn't
And the question for the super hero out there: How to do this in addition with certificates?

How to set "Identity" of the MDM Payload from iPhone Configuration Utility?
Does anybody know how to set the "Identity" of the Mobile Device Management (MDM) payload of a Configuration Profile from iPhone Configuration Utility (iPCU)? The description says that this is the "Cryptographic credential used for authentication" and I should "Add credentials in the Credentials payload". Any help is appreciated.
The Identity field in the MDM payload section of a configuration profile can only be set AFTER you have set the correct credential in the Credentials section. If you have set the correct credential in the Credentials section, then you will (in my experience) only have one choice for Identity in the MDM payload section. It will be the correct choice fortunately.
To set the correct credential in the Credentials section of the configuration profile, you must have a valid personal certificate in the Windows certificate store. If you have a valid personal certificate in the Windows certificate store it will show up in the (very long) list of certificates you can choose from when you click on Configure in the Credentials section.
You should be prompted for the password for 'exporting your identity'. Fill in both boxes and then click on OK. The set the password again. Yes, the password must be entered three times.
At this point you can go back to the MDM payload section and everything should be OK.
Note that my comments only apply to Windows. My system is Windows 7. However, only version of Windows probably works the same. -
Can I force the iPad background image from the iphone configuration utility?
I am using the iPhone Configuration Utility to roll out a dozen iPads. Can I use the utility to force the background image to a certain image?

IPad2 w/iPhone Configuration Utility wont install profile
I'm trying to use the iPhone Configuration Utility 3.6.2 from a windows 7 SP1 on an iPad2 running iOS 7.0.3 (11B511) but when I try to install a profile nothing seems to respond. I don't get any feed back on the iPad or from iPhone Configuration Utility. I know the name is iPhone Configuration Utility but from what iv read it it compatible with iPads aswell. I need this or something like this to keep the iPad from auto-connecting to open Wi-Fi in a businesses environment. Its not as easy and putting a password on the open Wi-Fi signals because we do not control the other businesses around the one we support. Forgetting the connection also wont work once the iPad looses connection with the correct Wi-Fi and is looking to reconnect.
This is what's in the console after trying to install the profile.

So i read that Apple hasnt updated the iPhone config utility for iOS7 (or at all for a while). Does anyone know of any other config utilities that would allow me to control wheather a Wi-Fi is auto connected to or not? We use iPads in a buinessness envornment and need to be able to connect to one Wi-Fi with other open Wi-Fi connections avalable (but not connected). forgetting an open network doesnt work because it will auto-connect if the iPad looses connection with the main Wi-Fi. Auto-connect should be an option on apple devices but isnt. we cannont be asked if we want to connect to an open Wi-Fi all the time. -
Issue with iphone configuration utility: eap-tls certificate selection
hello,
I am a new Apple user so if there's anything obvious, please bear with me. I also tried to search in the forum but didn't find any solution.
here's my issue:
I use iphone configuration utility v2.1 for windows. I added 2 certificates(one user cert and one CA cert) under 'credentials'. then i configured one wifi network (eap-tls using the certificate i justed added). then i synced with my phone. everything worked fine so far. however, when I tried to connect to wifi, i got error and found out that iphone was using a certificate issued by IPCU CA instead of the certificate i uploaded.
this behavior could be corrected by manually change the certificate from wireless setting. however, this has to be done every time I try to connect to wireless network which is quite frustrated. a workaround is to email me the certificate and install it from iphone. but i can't install the CA certificate via this way.
i am wondering if anyone has similar issue and how to fix this.
thanks,
-nsthe configuration utility doesn't allow you to select the iPCU cert which is kind of a self signed by the software. you could only select the cert that you imported.
upgraded to ipcu ver 2.2 today and it seems to fix the problem. will monitor it for several days and report back. -
Deploying iPads with iPhone Configuration Utility
We are trying to deploy some iPad2s into an enterprise environment. I have been able to push some settings like WiFi or remove Safari via iPhone Configuration Utility. However, we are needing to have one app installed (Prezi) from the App Store. I can't find a way to do this via the Configuration Utility, so I installed the app before applying the profile. One the profile is applied it hides the app on the homescreen. As soon as I remove the policy the app shows right back up. Is there a setting somewhere in the policy that is causing this?
On a related note, is there a better way to get the app installed automatically? You need an MDM -- moble device management

IPhone Configuration Utility Not Working
Hi Guys,
I am getting the dreaded error:
"iPhone Configuration Utility failed to locate 'Apple Mobile Device Support'. Please re-install iPhone Configuration Utility."
Actions I have tried (in various combinations):
- Reinstall iTunes (11)
- Reinstall iPCU (3.6.1)
- Copy various .dll files to iPCU directory (as per other suggestions, even though Im not getting a .dll error)
This is on a x86 machine running Windows Vista.
The devices I use get detected in iTunes just fine.
The error message I state above shows as soon as I launch iPCU. No prior error / No error after / No GUI loads - just the above error.
My guess, as per seeing past issues regarding iPCU is that iPCU is incompatible with my version of iTunes/AMDS.
Any trick on getting this working other than waiting for Apple to fix up iPCU? Im tired of reading hundereds of threads of 'solutions' that get me nowhere.
Thanks in advance...Hi.
I found that most problems with IPCU startup is a some issue with DLLs and programs in the PATH environment variable. And I thinks it's Apple to blame how they load their DLLs. For me the two things prevented IPCU from working:
Some Intel software in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\iCLS Client". I don't know what is it, probably part of drivers or other Intel software on my PC (I have Intel chipset motherboard and Intel SSD). Affected DLL was msvcr90.dll located here.
Zend Server in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Zend\ZendServer\bin". Affected DLLs were: libxml2.dll, iconv.dll .
I also see that it loads zlib1.dll from my "LUA for Windows" folder instead of its own but it seems that IPCU working with it.
So, basically problem occurs because either IPCU or Apple Mobile Device Support load wrong DLLs from some of PATH folders instead of their own folders and those DLLs are incompatible. I have located and narrowed it down by looking into list of loaded DLLs in Process Explorer while IPCU is running (showing its error message box), then checking DLLS that wasn't loaded from one of Windows or Apple folders, and after this I cut folders from PATH variable one by one until it worked, then I returned most of them back except those that affected IPCU startup. -
Is the iPhone configuration utility borked?
I've downloaded the iPhone configuration utility and am trying to setup a generic configuration file so that ANY user on our network can download it and then be prompted to enter their username & password to set them up.
Seems it doesn't work that way, regardless of the admin guide PDF.
Under the Exchange tab, i've configured the Account Name, Exchange ActiveSync Host but when i leave the User and email address fields blank, then export the configuration file, when it's imported the first thing that it prompts for is a password. What good is a password if you have no username????
I created a new configuration file with my username/email address and imported that, it prompted me then for my password and it worked fine.
How can I create a generic configuration file that will prompt a user for their username and password (and have the server address and other options hard coded into the profile so they can't be changed)?
The admin guide seems at odds with the configuration utility, and contradicts it.
All advice appreciated
Cheers
Shane.Hi,
You are using the Config Utility on a Windows PC, right? I've had the same phenomenon: Apparently, there's a bug in this version that doesn't create a proper config profile when you leave the Exchange Account name blank. (The Mac OS version does it properly.)
As a workaround, after exporting your profile from the Config Utility, open it with an XML editor (even Word will do), look for the Exchange Account Name key and string ("PayloadAccountName" I think it is), and delete them from the profile. When users install this modified profile, it should ask for the username as well.

IPhone Configuration Utility: Email with alias(es)
Hello everybody!
I have to add an email account to two iPhones and two iPads. The account includes many email aliases.
In the iPhone settings there is the possibility to add aliases to an account, but it is long-winded by adding so many aliases.
On my Mac I can add aliases by annexing the aliases after the main address in the address field in the preferences. (e.g. "[email protected], [email protected], [email protected])
So I tried to create a configuration Profile with all account informations in the iPhone Configuration Utility (iPCU). This app is very comfortable for that tasks, but it seems there is no easy way to add an account with aliases! I didn't found a field for aliases in the email tab and the line of action like Mac's mail.app (main address and alias addresses in one text field separated by comma) doesn't work In addition I tried to write all addresses in the email address field separated by semicolon: failed
Note: If I added an Email account to my iDevice via iPCU I'm not able to adjust the email address field in the iOS ettings, so I can't add aliases. If I leave the Email address field in the iPCU in blank, my iDevice request me to enter the address, but I can't add aliases, too (However adding aliases on iDevice that isn't my intention, but maybe it is an good hint for you)
Thanks for you support!I have exactly the same problem, I bought temple run oz but it says not compatiable with my ipad 1G, I used iphone configuration utility to install it and it works fine, but now I cannot go back to itunes to sync, it says sync completes but never really sync anything
Anyway to help? -
Gmail iPhone Configuration Utility
I was trying to setup a gmail account through the iPhone Configuration Utility. I entered all the info correctly. Everything worked perfectly but I can't delete any emails. I was wondering whats wrong
I don't know what you've tried but here are two ways to delete...
1. Swipe your finger across an email and press Delete
2. Press Edit and select the ones you want to delete and then press Delete
See the manual, pages 52-53... http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf

Deploy Iphone configuration utility profiles
Hi,
i am IT expert on large organization, i would like to deploy wireless and icloud profiles on ~3000 IOS devices.
i would like to deploy it encrypted (since the regular export is cleartext).
i read about SCEP , but i didn't find any step by step or similar article on how to do it.
is there anyone did it ? or know how to run it?
and please - i can't spend $$$ on MDM solution such as Good , Zenprise or similar.
thanks in advanced
Buris.I had the same problem as you. I've followed mgm612's suggestion and downloaded all versions of IPCU that I could find:
3.1 : http://www.iphoneworld.ca/news/2010/11/29/download-iphone-configuration-utility- ipcu-3-1-mac-windows/
3.2 : http://download.cnet.com/iPhone-Configuration-Utility-for-Windows/3640-20432_4-1 1666367.html
3.3 : http://iphone-configuration-utility.soft32.com/
3.4 : http://download.cnet.com/iPhone-Configuration-Utility-for-Windows/3000-20432_4-1 0969175.html
then uninstalled IPCU 3.5 and started to test with 3.1 and went up one version at a time until I reached version 3.4 which allowed me to uninstall the configuration profile from my device...
Don't know about you but I find that Apple pretty much dropped the ball with this and many other issues *such as recurrent Outlook event...) . Being unable to remove a configuration profile from your device because you've updated your software is absolutely ridiculous!
Good luck to others! -
IPhone Configuration Utility: how to override tethering APN
My carrier, Swisscom, offers a product called "Corporate Application Access" (CAA) which essentially allows you to use a different GPRS APN (corporate.swisscom.ch instead of gprs.swisscom.ch), assigning you a public IP address (instead of a private NATed one). I need this for a specific kind of VPN.
Using iPhone Configuration Utility I was able to change the APN to corporate.swisscom.ch, and indeed I see the iPhone surfing the Internet using the public IP. I can even ping the iPhone from outside while on 3G, never saw that before :-). Also, my VPN works.
Unfortunately, when I enable tethering using the Personal Hotspot feature, the iPhone falls back to the default APN gprs.swisscom.ch, and still gets a private IP. As you may have guessed, my VPN doesn't work. I have already tried resetting network settings, and even tried a different iPhone (a 3GS instead of a 4, but both running iOS 4.3.3).
For some reason I think Apple may have blocked overriding the tethering APN, in order to avoid users living in countries where tethering is a paid add-on to overcome the limitation by changing the tethering APN to the regular data APN.
While I understand these reasons, I still need to have my Personal Hotspot work using the correct corporate.swisscom.ch APN. Otherwise I'd have to purchase a separate data card with a separate subscription just to access the VPN from my laptop, which doesn't make much sense.
Has anyone ever had this problem, and even better, solved it?
Thank you :-)There are two ways, both unofficial I'm afraid...
Jail brake would be the first one - there are apps in the special store to override Apple scarce settings...
Or my personal choice - an Android phone ... Google is less paranoid about users free will (go figure)
Works on my oold Nokia N958GB, and my Galaxy Nexus... while iPhone 4S sits on a shelf, pried open, lifeless without a sim... why have you crippled me ow maker ;-(
Good to know Apple doesn't reed this -
What happened to the iPhone Configuration Utility?
There used to be about five different versions of the iPhone Configuration Utility available on the apple.com site. Now there is only one and it's just a MAC install. Anyone know where the Windows installs went?
I think there are other brands that can do more than compete.
Depends what you compare them against. If it is pure hardware technical specification, then yes, there are other phones on the market that exceed the technical specifications of almost every individual iPhone feature.
However, Apple is not a purely hardware company. They spend at least as long, if not longer, on the software that runs on this hardware. And it is that combination of hardware and software that keeps Apple ahead.
What's the point in the most technologically advanced phone ever made, if the software to use it (user interface and operating system) is an absolute pig to use.
I'm lucky that I get to see and play around with most new phones that come out, including all the so-called "iPhone Killers" from Sony Ericsson, Nokia, HTC etc. etc.
So far, not one of them (despite having better technical specs in many cases) beats the iPhone in terms of the overall user experience - how easy, intuitive, seamless, slick and just plain enjoyable - the phones are to use.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia phones look great on paper and in the hand, but they are so annoying to use!! Unintuitive, sluggish, clunky. It's almost as though the software that runs these great bits of hardware is an afterthought, just done in the last few weeks before sale. -
802.1x WEP & iPhone Configuration Utility
Hi All!!
I have just arrived back from our Easter vacation to find the school I work for has changed wireless from WPA-PSK to 802.1x WEP. It didn't take long for me to change my MacBook Pro over to the new settings, but we (our IT Guys and myself) are having great difficulties with the iPhone Configuration Utility and the resulting Profile file. A continuous error message of "Unable to join the network "School_Name"".
We have been using the same configurations for the iPhone in the Configuration Utility as we did for the MacBook Pro, but I keep having the feeling that we are missing something. I am a complete novice when it comes to this side of computing, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here are the preferences we have been using:
*_Network Prefs_* (Taken from MacBook Pro)
Network Name: School's SSID
Security: 802.1x WEP
User Name: Domain Login Name
Password: Domain Password
*_802.1x Prefs_* (Taken from MacBook Pro)
User Name: Domain Login Name
Password: Domain Password
Wireless Network: School's SSID
Authentication: TLS
TLS Certificate: VALID
*_iPhone Configuration Utility_*
We are little stuck as what to use for the Identifier under the General Tab in the iPhone Configuration Utility.
We have set the Security Type to WEP Enterprise with the EAP Type as TLS.
Under the Credentials Tab, we have generated a "School" certificate and a "User" certificate to be uploaded. These are the same type of certificates I have installed in my KeyChain on the MAcBook Pro.
The subsequent Profile which is generated is uploaded to the iPhone via email and is installed successfully. The profile shows that it is verified. But, no connection is made. The iPhone is not even showing up on the AIS Server log.
I hope that I have supplied enough information. If not, please ask for more.
Thanks in advance.
RodgerUpdate your iPhone Configuration Utility.
There is a new option under "Security Type" Called "WEP Enterprise" This is 802.1X WEP.

Cannot install configuration profiles using iphone configuration utility, why?
I have several working configuration profiles, which I can distribute both via email and a website.
I'd like to install the profiles through the iPhone Configuration Utility, but I am not able to do so. The devices show up just fine in the list. When I choose the Configuration Profile tab and clicking the install-button on a profile (which will install fine via Email or website) in the list, nothing happens. Regardless of the device beeing out of the box, or activated via iTunes. What am I missing?
I have tried this on several iPad and iPad 2 devices with the latest (4.3.3) firmware installed.Hi,
I have the same problem. After creating profile with only General tab being set up it is failing to install on my iPad.
Profile installation failed
The profile could not be added to device
Any suggestions?
I even erase all content and setting but that didn't help either.
The only alarming thing is that in my Certificate section I have red message:
"This certificate was signed by and untrusted issuer"
Can that effect installation?
If that is the case how to fixed it?
P.S. iPad was purchased from Apple Store.
