Multiple hotspots on an animated gif
Hi there,
I am creating an animated gif that will have 15 frames. I
need to create two hotspots that will direct the browser to two
different areas. One hotspot will direct the user to another web
page. The second hotspot will be to allow users to subscribe to an
RSS feed.
Is it possible to create these two hotspots over the whole
animation?
Thanks

You can't add two links to one hotspot. You could create two
hotspots,
though. Or you could slice the animation and add links to
each slice?

Need help to convert multiple PSD files to Animated Gif files
Hi,
I'm working on lot of screenshots. After scrubbing the screens I need to convert them as animated Gif's with 3 sec duration. Is there a way to automate the process? I would also need the source PSD files.
Thanks,
VijayHi,
If you select "File" , "Save as previos version"
I have attached a screen shot. Or do you require them to be saved in 8.0 as you do not have 8.2 ?

Embedded hotspots on animated gif
Hi Guys,
I'm wondering if it is possible to create multiple hotspots
on an animated gif that are embedded in the gif file itself,
instead of adding additional HTML to my page.
Thanks"Hotspots" are an HTML construction, not something that is
embedded in the
pixels of an image. So, no, you cannot. Furthermore, you can
only have
multiple hotspots on the entire animation, not unique ones on
unique frames
of the animation.
What is it you are trying to do?

How do I create a hotspot on the last frame of an animated gif that only plays once. When it is finished I want to be able to click on it to load another page.
You can try this:
Stick this in the header area of your code
<script type="text/javascript"> function showBuyLink() {
document.getElementById("buylink").style.visibility = "visible";
} // adjust this as needed, 1 sec = 1000
setTimeout("showBuyLink()", 5000);
</script>
Stick this around your buy link code.
<div id="buylink" style="visibility: hidden"> <!-- put all your add to cart buy links and images inside this hidden div --> <p style="text-align:center; font-size:26px;"> <a href="http://mybuylink">Add to Cart or Buy Link</a> </p> </div>
Yopu can rename "buylink", but you have to make sure you rename all instances or it will kill the script.
If you're not comfortable incorporating that, unfortunately, the other option would be to create a Flash animation and put a button in the last frame.
That would be just as difficult (if not worse) as writing (or tweaking) a javascript to delay the hotspot, and even worse because it would be invisible to phone users. Additionally, people who disable javascript would never see the link if you did add the script.
There isn't any way to do this with HTML or CSS, and you now know the flaws with the methods that will work. -
Is it possible to create an animated gif with a different hotspot/link on each state?
Hi! I was unable to find the answer to my question by searching, so sorry if this has been discussed already.
I'm trying to make an animated gif that's basically a little slideshow with a different link on each slide (or state, as Fireworks calls them). But it only seems to let me use one hotspot for the whole thing, even if I insert in the layer instead of in the state. I tried using slices instead of hotspots, and it does the same thing.
Is it possible?Ok, thanks! I have another way to do what I'm trying to do, I just thought it might be better to do it this way. Obviously I was wrong!
Thanks again! -
I'm not sure if you're able to do this, but I'd like to
create an animated gif with 7 different frames. I'd like to have a
different URL hotspot on each frame to go to seven different web
addresses (one web address per frame). Can I do this? If so, please
explain how.
Thanks in advance.MCInteractive wrote:

It can be done in Flash but not in Fireworks.

Animated Gif - Aligning Multiple layers
Hi All
I am creating a rotating animated gif in PS. Now I have about 37 layers, where I increment the angle of each layer with 10 degress relative to the previous one. But even when aligning all my layers with the aligning tools the layers still not align...How can I align them perfectly? See what I mean on the image below here:
NOTE: If the gif here does not animate, see this link:
You can see it is off-centerDexterDave wrote:
@JJMack. I am not sure how to rotate the layer without the older frame copying the new rotated position...that is why I used copies of layers
You do copy the layer and rotate. The layer needs to be perfectly aligned to the center of a is square 1:1 aspect ratio canvas. Guide lines were added 50% Horizontal and Vertically three were added a 49%, 50% and 51%. Then using the elliptical tool set to path mode a circle path was drawn by holding down the Alt key so the path would be from the center and holding the shift key down so the ellipse would be constrain to a circle. You click at the 50% 50% crossed guide line which the mouse pointer snaps to and you drag out the first otter circle. You then set the path mode to subtract and drag out the inner circle. Your path is now a ring. Then switch you the rectangle tool and subtract a rectangle path using the 49% and 51% guide lines. Your Path is now two arcs. Create two filled Shape layers the colors in the ring delete 1/2 of the layer so you have two colored arcs. Rastersize the two and merge the two layers int one. You now have you arcs aligned from the center. Next the action its simple dupe the layer rotate the layer 10 degrees select previous layer turn off visibility select layer forward. Play this action till you the required 36 ring layers. Create a frame animation have Photoshop make frames from the layers using the frame animation palette's fly-out option. Delete the first IK frames and turn on the IK layer visibility in what in now the first frame. It will turn on in all frames. You the save for web the animated gif. PSD file http://mouseprints.net/old/dpr/ik.psd also tried using a smart object ring layer to loose less quality rotating the layer however there seem to be movement in the rotation. Photoshop may be having a problem dealing wit the transparency in the layer and the break in the circle. http://mouseprints.net/old/dpr/ikso.psd so then I put all the ring layers into a group and masked the group with a vector mask. http://mouseprints.net/old/dpr/iksomask.psd the best tool you have when using Photoshop is the gray matter between your ears let it do its thing it may even surprise you sometimes. -
Animated gif on multiple rollover buttons ?
I want to use animated gifs as MouseOver in rollover buttons.
Somehow when I put this together the animation only works for the

I get this to work if i dont put in preload images as default

I have a simple Flash animation which I'd like to be made
into a transparent GIF.
When I do the GIF export, only the first frame of my
movieclips (which are placed in the main timeline) get rendered. It
seems like Flash only records the main timeline preview output into
the GIF file, and does not play movieclip objects. You would expect
the GIF recording to be of the same preview as when you hit
ctrl+enter (essentially final playback).
Because of this, the GIF export is pointless. The only way to
use it is to have all your animations occur in the main timeline,
and not within movieclips. It doesn't work for me (and for most
people?), because I need to easily scale my animations, which is
doable by just resizing a movieclip.
Is there a way around this in Flash? Am I missing something?
I've had to use a 3rd-party tool (Magic SWF2GIF) to do the
GIF recording.
My other issue is Flash cannot export transparent GIF's it
seems. Because of this, I have to rely on more 3rd-party GIF tools,
most of which are rubbish.
In the end, I've had to take snap shots of every individual
frame and edit each frame as individual files in Photoshop to do
all the cropping and transparency just right. Real pain when you
are talking 50 frames, and having to do multiple animations.
Is there a way to export transparent GIF's in Flash?
Seems kind of dumb that I have all this high-end software and
loads of tools... and I still have to edit things frame by
frame.Thank you for your reply!
I check exported GIFs in various browsers and XnView viewer.
It's definitely not a preview issue - i have 32Gb of RAM and Nvidia Quadro 4000 GPU on my system.
I believe the issue is with transparency, because i'm able to export GIFs with solid background just fine
GIF export dialogue window has 'Transparency' checkbox, so it looks like it should be possible to export an animated GIF with transparent background, but for some reason i'm getting all frames at the same time
thank you -
Animated Gif with large base image & small animated part.
Hello guys
I'm not really sure how to explain that, due to my limited English comprehansion. I will try with images.
I can easily create animated gif out of multiple layers, given each layer is identical, with small changes accuring over time.
But I yet to figure out an animated gif, that uses one large image for the base, and only small part of it is animated.
I always get the animated part working, without the large base applying across all the frames. All it does, is flashes once
the frame is reached and then moves on to being transparent, showing only the small animated part.
For example, this is a GIF made with Galaxy S4, of my friend playing with his phone, imported into PS CS6. On the Galaxy,
after I record the GIF, I can use my finder to touch, mask and freez parts I don't want to move, and leave only small, animated bit.
When I import it to PS, it shows one layer with full image, and bunch of frames with the animation part only.
http://i.imgur.com/UAiopQA.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/7XOGGV6.jpg
Problem is, once the image is open with PS, I'm not able to export it to keep it working in the same manner. Given the Samsung's
gifs are 8 to 10mb, it's hard to edit it, to make it more size friendly.
The gif clearly works the way I describe, so there is a setting or method I don't know about.
If PS is not best tool for editing GIF, what other apps would you recommand I use for it?
Thank you for the taking the time to read
best regards
MonicaThis has been an ongoing issue for me since I switched from Powerpoint to Keynote. Most of the animated gifs with transparent backgrounds that I used with Powerpoint are no longer transparent in Keynote. You may want to search for those earlier threads on this topic...
To summarize: I've had to open up my animated gifs in After Effects and use the Color Key effect to restore transparency, with mixed success.
Good luck! -
Animated gif in splash hangs or very slow
Hi
Not new to programming but quite new to Java. I have tried to find information
on this already but could not find it. If I missed it and have a double post here,
please let me know the link to the other post.
I have a application built in Java. On my laptop it starts in just 2 seconds.
On the production machine (AMD Geode based touch panel) the application
starts in about 30 seconds.
Due to the startup time I wanted to just the -splash option from javaw.exe
example:
D:\dist>javaw -splash:animated.gif -jar hmi.jar
The animated gif shows immediately and is 4532 bytes large.
java -version gives the following output:
java version "1.6.0_07"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_07-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 10.0-b23, mixed mode, sharing)
But with the animated gif as splash the application takes 3 to 4 minutes
to start or it does not start at all but only keeps showing the splash.
If I use a non-animated gif the startup time is almost like the normal 30 seconds.
Any known issues with startup performance using animated gif as splash,
or are there any known issues on AMD Geode based systems regarding the
startup performance and usage of animsted gifs as splash ?I just see that the splash is not removed from screen either.
If I minimize the java application I see the animated gif still
there on screen.
I tried this with a normal gif (non animated) and that one
is also not removed from screen when the application is started -
How to create an animated gif with CS4?
Trying to create an animated gif from 8 images using FW CS4. Can't find "how to" via online FW help. Have done it before with version 8 -- followed the in-house Help db but CS4 doesn't have in-house db. I found a tutorial: http://www.entheosweb.com/website_design/animated_gifs.asp, but talks about opening Frames panel (Windows > Frames) and I can't even find the Frames panel in CS4!
Just trying to create simple animated gif as temporary portfolio. Would also like to click on a different link for each image as it rotates if that's possible but main thing is just to create the gif.
Thanks so much in advance!For the first part of your question
File > Open, then at the bottom of the dialog Tick the open to Open As Animation.
Then browse/select multiple images, then Open.
This will automatically add each image to a State (Window > State, previously called Frames).
Then adjust the Frame Rate of each State. The default is 7th/100 (a sec). You should see the number 7 to the right of each State. Double click to adjust as desired. 100 = 1 second, 200 = 2 seconds and so on.
Once the animation is configured, go File > Save As > Animated Gif.

I am using Captivate 5.5 on a Windows machine. I inserted an animated gif into my Captivate, using insert > animation... Then, I inserted a button. When I pressed F4 to preview the animation, it played only once. I put a check mark on the loop on the timing of the properties of the animation. Still, it played only once. It stopped when the play head stoped moving. I cannot make the animated gif play continuously. Does anybody know how to make the animated gif play continuously?
thaks.You can try this:
Stick this in the header area of your code
<script type="text/javascript"> function showBuyLink() {
document.getElementById("buylink").style.visibility = "visible";
} // adjust this as needed, 1 sec = 1000
setTimeout("showBuyLink()", 5000);
</script>
Stick this around your buy link code.
<div id="buylink" style="visibility: hidden"> <!-- put all your add to cart buy links and images inside this hidden div --> <p style="text-align:center; font-size:26px;"> <a href="http://mybuylink">Add to Cart or Buy Link</a> </p> </div>
Yopu can rename "buylink", but you have to make sure you rename all instances or it will kill the script.

Animated GIF. problems in Captivate
I have been trying to bring in an Animated GIF. into my
Captivate presentation.
When I import the animation using Insert> Animation it
converts the animated gif to a swf file.
In the preview screen it shows my animated gif with multiple
colors flashing over and over. It is doing this to all of the
animated gifs that I am bringing in. My fps is set to 10 within
Captivate.
Is there frame restrictions or file size restrictions that is
causing this error when bringing in an animated gif. Any
suggestions?Hi mikeygilbert23_nap and welcome to our community
Unfortunately, there are a few different methods used to
create animated .GIFs. One would think all of them would be created
simply using different images. Largely this is true. But some
animation programs allow you to choose different methods for the
way the screen is painted between frames. Sounds like you may be
seeing this behavior.
Not sure what to advise as to how to work past it though.
Sorry. Hopefully one of the others has a clue.
Cheers... Rick -
Help creating an animated gif for a navbar!!
Hey guys, I am very new to fireworks and dreamweave and am having a problem that is making my head spin! I have to create a simple animated .gif for a navigation bar (which will be made in dreamweaver). The navigation bar should function similar to this: http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~baronson/ITI320/Exercise2/functionality.html. Essentially, all that is happening is I create this animated image and in dreamweaver, when I create the AP NavBar, I set the mouseover to that image. My problem is that in comparison to this website's mouseover image ( http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~baronson/ITI320/Exercise2/images/navi/audience_OVER.gif ) my animated gif has multiple layers and states, where as his only has one layer. I can't seem to figure out how to include both the text, and the gif image, and incorporate them under the same layer.
A follow up question after having found how to incorporate both into the same state, would I have to lasso out each piece of my animated gif for the individual state I want to have it applied to?
Any help/pointer to where the information can be found would be greatly appreciated. I've read through the manuals and watched many of Babbage's videos but haven't been able to figure this out. Thanks!Your gif doesn't need to have multiple layers, but it does need to have multiple states. To save yourself a lot of confusion, create the animated gifs first, and then export them. Create your navbar in the usual way, with simple rolloveres or swap images. Export the navbar.Rename the animated gifs with the names of the over state of the navbar images, and then delete (or mone to another folder) the over state images of the navbar. Move the renamed gif animations into the image folder of the navbar. Preview in browser. The animated gifs should have replaced the original over state of the buttons.
