Multiple issues with 14-f088CA over the last year

Note I would like to have sent this as an email direct to HP support but could not find an address to send it to and so have not provided the serial number - this can be provided on request
Ref: product # EOK29UA#ABL, windows 8.1
I purchased a 14-f088CA laptop at future shop,  20 July 2013.  All worked well until Feburary 2014 when the touch screen stopped working.  At that time we carried out a system restore which did not fix the issue.  We therefore took the laptop back to Future shop who, following their diagnosis returned it to HP under warranty.  HP replaced the touch screen and the laptop was then returned to us.
In June again the touch screen failed and so following another attempted system restore we again returned it to Future shop who sent it back to HP who again replaced the touchscreen (we received this back on 30 June).  At the time, having had the touchscreen fail on us twice we asked for a replacement or refund however this was denied us.
The laptop worked on return but since it being returned the fan can be heard all the time (quite loudly).  In addition, the laptop, which has not had much actvity on it (hence only getting in touch now!), has frozen a number of times when it has been used.  The unit therefore clearly still has problems.  
I note now that the 1 year warranty is complete and so Future shop will not progress this issue, however with two returns within the year and now a new problem that presumably developed with the latest  repair I would ask for your guidance on how to proceed with getting this fixed.  
Although I understand that these things can happen with computers I will be severely dissappointed if HP beleive that the level of unreliability this unit has given us is to be considered reasonable and any issues are not their responsibility once out of warranty.

    It would be difficult to tell you where to begin. If you moved photos around to different folders and didn't use Lightroom to move them, that would cause Lightroom to lose track of where they are. You have to remember that your images are not "in" Lightroom. Lightroom simply points to them wherever they are on your computer. All of the location information as well as the changes that you make to your images is stored in the catalog, which is a database. This catalog is central to the operation of Lightroom, and it's essential that you understand how it works and how to make it work for you. For all of those images that have "?" On them, or the folders that have the same, you will have to go through the process of locating them and showing Lightroom where they are located. With 18,000 images, and many of them missing, it might just be easier to start a new catalog and organize things properly from the beginning in that catalog.

    I spend more time trying to get Adobe Acrobat to work, than I do actually doing my work.
    My OS is Windows 8.1.  My system has 16 MB of RAM, and hard disks are not overfilled.
    I run update virus checker (Kaspersky) daily.

    Could you please tell what are the challenges you are facing while trying to access Acrobat ?
    Do you get any error message ?If yes ,please share the screen shot of the same.

    OR
    Try repairing it from Control panel, or try launching it with a different user account and check if it works or not.

    Also, is there any way to save a group or an open session and then restore it later?

    History menu, if it was destroyed in the last session
    then use "Restore Previous session:" and then restore all windows also from the history menu.
    If done in this session try the restore all windows under the history menu.

    Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value).  You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
    In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
    Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
    Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
    Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
    The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these).  Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
    In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above.  As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library.

    I believe it's 4th gen - it does have a camera (hence all the photos).
    I don't want to update it to the latest iOS since I'm concerned it will slow it down too much, but it is running 5.1 I believe.
    I have a Windows 8 PC and have just installed iTunes, and iCloud panel. Photostream doesn't seem to import old photos, though I've tried this route. I can't find the "enable disk use" button in the new iTunes, and when I try and open the iPod through the start menu I just find an empty DCIM folder.

    On Windows, the drivers responsible for recognizing an iOS device as a camera are built into the Windows operating system. The steps below may help identify a driver-installation issue and resolve it by reinstalling these drivers. Before starting, find out if you have Windows 7 N edition.     I have continuously over the last 6 months struggled with syncing my iphone and ipod with itunes  The app continually crashes during the picture import.  AND by the way it takes 10-15 minutes before it even attempts to import photos.  The screen says importing photoes but doesnt try to optimize or anything for 10 minutes.  I have a 3gs with 16Gb so its not a cheap phone.  I have 10Gb free.  I have 6600 photoes.  This is very frustrating and undermines my confidence in your products.  My ipod is an ipod 4 with 16Gb also.  It does the exact same thing to it.  The last time, I had to import photoes a few at the time and with it taking 10-15 minutes each time for 6600 photos it is a long frustrating process.  But it will import every photo a few at a time.  The error message is just that itunes has stopped working.  no hint as to why. AND of course, my phone is out of use for the entire time.  You guys must not want to believe ur phones are a necessary tool...or maybe you dont want the consumer to believe it is.  I have tried to find solutions on your website as well as through other 3rd party communities.  Ultimately they were of no use.  I stumbled onto my solution by accident since Im a bit of a computer geek...a semi-geek.

    basically whenever I try to sync my ipod touch 4G 64GB it crashes iTunes when it begins the pictures. if im lucky ill get 4-5 on there before it stops responding. its not my system or anything im running win7x64 8GB DDR3 ram (Corsair XMS3) AMD FX Eight core processor.

    (when I click on the Sync option I get the warning: "Are you sure you want to sync music? All existing songs and playlists on the iPhone will be replaced with songs and playlists from your iTunes library." I fear that if I click this I will lose all of my important Voice Memos as well)

    Just to add to what ChrisJ4203 said.  You can sync them to your new computer using iTunes by selecting to Include Voice Memos on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.  However, you still need to re-establish syncing with the new computer without iTunes erasing all the iTunes media from your phone (as the warning mentioned).
    If you copy your entire iTunes folder (not just your music) from your old computer to your new one, along with other non-iTunes media you may be syncing with iTunes (such as contacts, calendars and any photos synced to your phone from your old computer) by using migration assistant of following one of these methods: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527, then when you sync again with your new computer it will recognize your phone and sync as it did before.  You will still have to authorize the new computer for any Apple IDs used to purchase from the iTunes and App stores (in iTunes>Store>Authorize this computer). 
    After that you can sync your voice memos to your computer as mentioned earlier.
    If you want to archive your voice memos before you do anything with iTunes, you can use a 3rd party program such as PhoneView or Touch Copy.

    Out of curiosity how much data per month are you using?  Another factor could be if neighbors have all done the same thing as you and the node is being overloaded on home internet use.

    I accomplished what I needed last night.  I remembered I had picked my favorite images from each year and put them in a "favorite" folder by year.  These folders included 500 to 1200 images per year.  I pulled up the folder for each year and highlighted all images and clicked on "Keywords" and all keywords used for all images were listed.  I made those keywords persistent.  It took me a while to realize I had to click on each keyword to make it persistent.  After doing this for all years, I assume 95% of all keywords I have used over the many years were back in my list.  I'm sure there is probably a more "technical" way to accomplish what I needed, but this seems to have worked.  I also exported my list into a word document and is saved on my hard drive.
    If I had not made folders with my favorite images for each year, I could not have used this method, so if you figure out a better way, I like to hear it.  Thanks for your comments and willingness to help.

    This sounds like an error in Time Zone support. The time zone needs to be the same in Outlook as well as the phone.
