Multiple languages - one database

Hi,
It is any possibility to store in a table texts in different character sets? (for example, western and Chinese characters).

You can specify one character set for CHAR/VARCHAR2 columns and a separate one for NCHAR and NVARCHAR2 columns. In 9i, I believe the national character set (NCHAR/NVARCHAR2) is limited to being a Unicode character set.

Surely I'm not the first person to have this problem, but I can't find many resources on how to solve this. Just some background on what I'm working with, I'm running a web application using the Struts framework with jdk 1.4 on a Weblogic 8.1 server connected to an Oracle 9i database, I'm using DAO for my persistence layer, and I'm not opposed to using any 3rd party software to assist in this task.
For example, say I have a database of DVDs, My application will retrieve the list of DVDs from the database to display to the user. Depending on the user's Locale I want to display the title of the DVD in that language.
This is a simple example, but the real-world application is much more complicated. The application is highly configurable meaning that through a configuration application, my internal users can add DVDs at any time, edit the title of the DVD, or add a new language that they want the title to display in, etc. When a customer logs in to the application front-end they will be able to change the language they want the application to display in at any time, and the application will need to reflect that change. The display of constant text like field labels and page text is easy using Struts but its this configurable dynamic text thats a bit more difficult.
Its obvious to me that I will need to store the multiple languages in the database in some way, I'm thinking of either storage in some xml format, or a new table hanging off the "dvd" table with languages for each dvd. Either of these options would work for my purposes, but I don't want to go reinvent the wheel when this same problem has arleady been solved. If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it

One common way to handle this is to modify your key for the dvd title to include a locale identifier:
    key dvdtitle
    becomes
    key locale dvdtitle
Now your db can hold multiple translations of the same dvd title.

  • Importing CSV files into Multiple Tables in One Database

I have a web based solution using Microsoft SharePoint and SQL Server that is created to centralize dat collection and reporting of program metrics used in montly reviews.
A person from each program enters dat manual or by pushing the data using automated data import tools. The user then is able to generate reports and provide presentations to their stakeholders.
There are are programs that are located in US and 2 that are located in Japan. All, including programs in Japan use the MS Project with a plug-in tool that allows them to auto input data. When the user click the "Send To.." button, the data goes
in to multiple tables in one database.
Everything is set up exactly the same for every program; however, we have discovered becase of a firewall, along with some of the different settings that the MS Project has over in Japan, the 2 program users are not able to auto import their data.
The suggestion is to have the program users export the MS Project file into a CSV and email it. I will then take it and convert the data, such as the dates and place them on a Network Drive. There will be 2 folders, one for each program.
I feel it will be an easy process just to load the data from the Network Drive into the same tables that are created for auto import.
    My Concerns/Questions:
    1. Should I create 1 SSIS package or should there be 2, one for each program?
    2. US and Japan program users send their data once a month. The converted files are going to be saved in the location marked with a date (ex:201402). How can i have it to where SSIS will automatically load the data every time i place new files in the designated
folders or when i update an exsisting file?
Can you provide an example with your suggestion please?
    I greatly appreciate the assistance!

    Hello Vikash,
Thank you! This will help me get started.
There will be 2 folders, one with files with Program A data and the other with files with Program B data. All will have the same fields, just coming from different programs. You stated that I will be able to to load both in one package. Would there be two
paths since there will be two separate folders?
Using the example you provided, i am confident that I can create the package using one path into one table but not sure how to get the files from 2 paths (if there is) into multiple tables.
Can you help clarify this for me?
    Thank you!

  • Can FCS be set up in multiple offices - Would that be one database or can we synchronize several - I need general architecture concept

Can FCS be set up in multiple offices/locations - Would that be one database or can we synchronize several databases - I need general architecture concept

If you want to link to separated location which are too far from each other to connect via Ethernet or FC you can't. What you can do is build another FCS with a completely independent DB and link both with XML and scripting (or if you have a very good DB knowledge). Other than that you can put the FCS DB in one location and make the clients on the other connect to the first one. But if the issue is to ingest media from both locations to the same DB then you better have a nice and big Ethernet connection between both locations.
    Hope this help

  • Multiple SAP systems on One database

    Hello,
We are planing to install multiple SAP systems like SM, ERP on one database with multiple DB SIDs, it means each SAP system has its own Oracle instance. We know MCOD has only one DB SID (one oracle instance) for multiple SAP systems.
Is it possible to set up the landscape like this? Is it supported by SAP?
    Can any body advice?
    Thanks,
    Kris

    Technically, it is possible.
But SAP Does NOT support it. The only method to install one set of binaries (one ORACLE_HOME) that is supported by SAP is to use MCOD (all components are installed in one Database)

  • Create multiple portal instances with only one database?

Can someone create multiple portal instances with only one database?
If so, how is this done, just by running the portal configuration wizard?
How are most people running with multiple developers working on portal? Do they share a portal instance, or create their own?
    Thank you very much!
    Phillip

i'm currently using 9ias rel 2(9.0.2) and i have install one infrastructure and two mid tier, hoping that this will create two portal, but it didn't. Can you please tell me how to do create two portal within one server.

Please see this 'sysresv' output. It returns multiple shared memory IDs for one database (althouth all are 0s except one). Why is this? Does it matter? It seems not eating up memory. Stop and start database didn't help.

  • Query about multiple connection pools under one database

    Hi,
I have s query about connection pool, now we have a requirement,
we have two schemas in one db, some data store in one schema, some in another schema,
all tables are the same, but data is different, we want to retrive all data under two schemas,
so we need two connection pools under one database,
I have set two system DSN, and each connection pool was mapping to one DSN,
but after I importing tables into RPD, when I view data, there is a dialog let me select connection pool. so If this, when we drag columns in answer, it will definitely get wrong.
so how to realize this function about multiple connection pools under one database and we can get data normally.

    Hi,
    Try this step
1)Better to create two different DSN for the same database with different user id and password
2)now create multiple connection pool in the same database in u r RPD physical layer .

  • Multiple entries in one database column

    Hello.
I am a bit of a php/mysql newbie.  I'm trying to figure out how to select multiple data entries from one database column.
For example, I have a column in one table called name_id.  I want to assign multiple names to a specific entry in this table.  Like, "1,4,12,18", for example.  Each of these numbers are the primary keys for my name table.  So, I'm trying to assign 4 people to one set of data in this example.
I have seen this done before, I just don't know how to select this data once it is in there.  I think it may have something to do with arrays, but I'm not sure.
I hope this makes sense, any help would be much appreciated.

That's a poor design plan as it violates the basic rules of normalization and will cause  problems in the end. Just create another table to link to and store the one value in each row. If you need more details, then tell us exactly what you are trying to do.

  • One database with multiple instance names

    Dear all,
We would be very happy if anyone can provide me with some information of how RMAN operates.
Current situation: we have 2 machines running Oracle9i with just one database. The production database is "replicated" using EMC's TimeFinder/Snap. The differences are:
    1. production database directory structure is slightly different than the replicated one: /usr/oraprod and /usr/orasnap respectively.
    2. their pfiles are different: besides the differences in files location (controlfile, dumps,...), the instance_name are different (oraprod and orasnap respectively), but their db_name must be equal, which is oraprod.
    3. at startup of the orasnap instance, all datafiles and redolog files must be adjusted/renamed to the orasnap directory structure (using a number of: alter database rename file) and the temporary tablespace needs to be recreated.
The orasnap instance is now ready for use... but problems arises within the RMAN repository. The oracat DB is the rman catalog. Connection to rman is done in this way:
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target "sys/<password>@oraprod" CATALOG "catuser/<password>@oracat"
But "report schema;", whether the target is oraprod or orasnap, lists files which has the orasnap directory structure.
If the target is oraprod, then I expect to see the directory structure of oraprod and NOT the that of orasnap.
Did I overlooked something in here?
    All help would be appreciated...
ps: see also my previous thread: "RMAN stops registering backups"

    Hi Ebrian,
Another funny thing of RMAN's incarnations: rman seems not to be able to give a detailed backup listing (or restore some files) of the incarnation datafiles like:
    RMAN> list backup;

  • Multiple Languages in one Form

    Hello,
I have a requirement to replace a preprinted form and create a form in SAP that contains  texts in multiple languages. e.g. Russian, Greek, Bulgarian, German, English etc.
The  form also contains single lines of text with multiple Languages.
Does anybody know how to achieve this?
    We are on ERP 6.0.
    Greetings,
    Thomas

if your using the smartforms :
you can use multiple include texts
    if it is EN
    Text Name         &GV_DEL_NUM&
    Text Object       VBBK
    Text ID           ZSO6
    Language            EN  pass here
      if it is DE
    Text Name         &GV_DEL_NUM&
    Text Object       VBBK
    Text ID           ZSO6
    Language      DE pass here
    like create multiple texts.
    if it is SCRIPT
use read_text  multiple times and based on language
finally  CONCATENATE texts into single line......

    Hi,
From TOAD you can connect to three different databases- that is different sessions with different DB's
make a use of union operator and execute the queries.
You can see the output in - output window.
Select the output and right click save to excel sheet.
Parallely you can run 33 sql in other sessions, do the same process as stated above and save to the same excel sheet but different instance (different sheet of excel)
Now compare -- its demo for how to utilize the tool.
Other way around, Create one table with two columns table_name, count.
execute the select queries with union Operator and directly insert into the table.
Perform the same above two steps in different databases.
Now, from one database - create database link to other two dabases and provide select privilege on that table in order to access.
Now, write a query to compare two tables using dblink.

  • Multiple PIA/Application servers to one database?

We're planning an upgrade to PT 8.50, FSCM 9.1 and with this upgrade we want to add access for outside customers/vendors. What's the best way to configure an internal employee site/app, and a customer site/app to one production database? Is it as simple as installing different application servers and PIAs, point them all to the one database, and configure 1 PIA as EMPLOYEE and the others as CUSTOMER? Or should we also need use Portal 9.0? I've been doing some research into this, but was hoping to hear some real-world experience and advice from anyone else that's set up anything similar.
    Thanks,
    -rob

you can have a PIA built for outside customers hitting the same database.
you can even have separate PIA hitting same app servers and db.
If you are planning on having an external site outside your firewall - for CUSTOMER (portal) make sure the external site is built to work only for CUSTOMER portal.
u might also want to design your customer ID base - using specific permissions and roles.
    hope this helps.

  • How to deal with multiple language SQL script?

    Hi All,
We now want to create a SQL script that contains multiple languages(English, Chinese, Japanese), this script need to be run at there different database installed on different OS, for example, Oracle9i on Windows 2000 English Edition/Chinese Edition/Japanese Edition.
If I save the file as ANSI format, this file will only be recognized at local OS(e.g. the Chinese and Japanese character will not be normally displayed on other OS, if I run the script, the CH/JP characters will not be stored normally in DB).
If I save the file as Unicode format, this file can be recognized by all three OS, but Oracle SQL Plus will not recognize it, thus we can't run the script.
Who can tell me how to deal with this issue? Is it possible to save only one script that can run on different language OS?
    Thanks,
    Spark

    Hi,
The ISQLplus supports multiple languages, but there will be following problems for my case:
1.ISQLplus don't support Unicode format script too, so I must save the file as ANSI format.
2.To display the characters normally depends on the database server's platform. I create a script contain three languages with ANSI format in Chinese OS, but if I want to load this script to database server installed on English OS via ISQLplus, the Chinese characters will not be displayed normally too.
    PS:
So, I think this is not only related with Oracle but also the Windows OS, it is hard to create one file with ANSI format that can be displayed normally in different platforms.
    Thank you all the same,
    Spark

  • Sccm 2012 multiple language reports from mbam integration

I installed mbam on my sccm 2012 primary server and all went well with one exception.  The reports have multiple languages.  In the reports folder that houses the mbam reports, there are multiple folders for the four mbam reports, so I have about
10 different languages for my 4 reports.  I only want english.  I would think that like any other sccm report I can just delete the others I won't use, but am concerned since this is a component of mbam and it might be expecting those reports
as "placeholders" for that data.  Can I just delete the folders for the unneeded languages?  Additionally I am getting an error when launching the reports when the window for the report opens it has at the bottom of the report:  ERROR:
the mbam policy view does not exist.  I am assuming this is because not all the components have been installed in the mbam environment as of yet.  We are upgrading from mbam 1.0 and I am doing the sccm integration piece.  I realize the monitoring
server needs to be installed, the policy template also needs to go somewhere as well, so  suspect this is expected behaviour with only the sccm integration piece involved so far.  THanks!

It's more of housekeeping issue.  I am going to have to delete that folder anyway as right now I am connected to a test database and will need to uninstall mbam and reinstall it when they are ready to point to a different database after testing is
    complete.
