Multiple .Mac accounts, on one Admin account on one computer

Hello all,
I am trying to have multiple .Mac accounts to publish independent iWeb websites on unique domains (the apple iweb provided ones) but it appears I can only have one .Mac account on my computer's network user to do the easy one click Publish button to.
I don't want to use multiple user accounts on my computer as I'd like to have access to all my photos, music, videos and everything else and easily do so without logging out from my main account.
What am I missing?
Many thanks,
Michael

The only safe and easy method is multiple user accounts.
You can easily store your iPhoto and music Libraries on an external drive and share them between accounts.

  • Apps open and quit slower in one admin account than in another

On the same computer (iMac 27" Late 2012, 3.2GHz Core i5 8GB 1600MHz) running the same OS (10.9.2), some applications open and quit much slower within one admin account than another.  SPSS 21 for Mac, for example, takes 6 mins 30 secs to open and 3 mins 40 secs to quit in one admin account, but takes only 1 min 8 secs to open and 6 secs to quit in another admin account.  I have already deleted the SPSS journal file specific to each admin account, and it doesn't help.  I first thought that the problem was specific to SPSS, but now it appears that other applications also open slower in one admin account than another (although the problem is not as bad with other applications).
Is there a reason that some applications open and quit much slower in one admin account than another?  If so, how can I fix it?  Thank you.

    Hi,
Make her account an Admin Account.
A Managed Account and Parental Controls tend to be somewhat linked and a sliding scale of things.
If there is no reason to Manage her account there is no reason why she cannot also be an Admin account.
She should also Check iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Security and see who is in the Blocked or Allowed Lists and see if you are in the wrong one.

  • HT1750 How do i stop downloads from one Admin account from going onto the other one?

So there are two admin accounts on my imac, and one day i logged into the other persons account, and all my downloads were showing up in their folder, how do i seperate the two, so that what i download on the mac from my account is only visible on my account?? If you have time to answer this, i would really appreciate it!! Thanks

...granted they were in the Mac HD folder,
You mean Macintosh HD, i.e., your boot directory?  That is one of the place (actually a little deeper in there) that I was alluding to about a folder common to all accounts.  But that is not the default and the only way that could happen is if you changed the default from ~/Downloads.
You never said what browser you are using.  I'll assume it is Safari.  Open Safari's preferences, general tab, and look at the "Safe download files to".  Unless you have other reasons to place elsewhere set to Downloads in your home directory.  Given what you are describing it must not be currently set there and you must have changed it sometime in the past (maybe accidentially).
If you are not using Safari every other browser has a similar preference (e.g.., FireFox preferences, general, save files to).

  • FileVault 2 failure - more than one admin account

New rMBP 15" with 10.8.2, used Migration Assistant from a 10.6.8 boot.  Very happy with it, and have been using it for a few days.
Decided to enable filevault 2 to encrypt my boot drive.  I enabled it, rebooted, and then went back to the Security & Privacy system preferences to check the progress, which was stuck with an intdeterminate progress bar.  Waited 30 minutes, no change.   Hmmm.
Console.log showed continual error message, such as :"11/9/12 6:56:40.155 PM System Preferences[638]: *** -[DMManager conversionProgressForLogicalVolumeDisk:] returned an error; error: -69808 (-[SecurityFDEController _checkFDEEncryptionStatusTimer:])"
Turns out, I had two admin accounts on this computer, and I had only authorized one of them to unlock the filevault encryption.
I clicked the button to authorize the 2nd account, and after that the encryption process started working.
Not very user friendly...posting this in case it helps others...

Welcome to the discussions. If iWeb's menus are greyed out, the following trick has worked for some:
In the user account which does not let you start a new page, save, etc. — Quit iWeb. Start iPhoto. Select a couple of photos, click on the iWeb icon at lower right and choose Photo Page. iWeb will open up and invite you to choose a template for your new Photos page. Choose any template so that the page is created and then delete that newly created page.
...Now perhaps things are no longer greyed out in iWeb.

  • How can I change an already set up mac to a new admin account

This is an upgrade Snow Leopard 10.6.8 from Tiger. I have always had the same logon which I thought gave me admin priviledges and I was trying to install Digital Performer 7.24 and I got a message that I did not have sufficient priviledges to install hard drive authorizations and I needed to sign in with an admin account which I thought I had presumeably done already. I had signed on the account that I had used from the time I had authorized tiger. Since it took consiiderable time and effort to install many Pro Audio music plugins I don't want to start again at ground zero. Help me if you can:)

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.
Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963 and restart your computer.  Reinstallng Digital Performer 7.24 should now work.  If not, you should contact its customer tech support department - http://www.motu.com/techsupport
Do you meet all of Digital Performer 7.24 system requirements?
    Version 7.24
    • Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) compatibility
    • Improvements and optimizations
    Minimum System Requirements
Digital Performer 7.24 requires a computer with a 1 GHz G4 processor and 1 GB of RAM running Mac OS X v10.5.8 Leopard or later to install and run. A display resolution of 1024 x 768 is also required.
    System Recommendations
The minimum recommended system for Digital Performer is a multi-core or multi-processor Power Mac G5 or Intel-based Mac with 2 GB of RAM or more. A display resolution of 1280 x 1024 is also recommended.
    Pro Tools|HD System Requirements
Digital Performer supports DAE versions 8.0–8.0.3 with the following Digidesign Pro Tools systems:
    • Pro Tools|HD (1, 2 or 3)
    • Pro Tools|HD Accel
Pro Tools version 8.0 cs3 or later is strongly recommended. Support for Pro Tools 8.0.3 requires that Pro Tools is installed before installing Digital Performer 7.1 or later. If Pro Tools 8.0.3 is installed after Digital Performer 7.1 or later, the Digital Performer installer must be run again for DAE to function properly.

  • Cannot enable Find My Mac on a non-admin account

When logged into a "Standard" account on 10.7.2 the iCloud preference page has the Find My Mac option grayed out with a note that says "Administrator authorization required." but there's nowhere on the pane to authenticate.

I have the same setup as yourself (standard user for everyday use, admin user for software install and system settings change) and I was able to set up FMM in the admin account with no problems, except some pre-requisites: while logged in to the admin profile you have to 1) install the Lion HD Recovery Update, 2) enable location services in the Security & Privacy PrefPane and 3) enable Wake For Network Access in the Power Adapter section of the Energy Saver PrefPane.
I didn't want to set up iCloud sync in the admin profile but Apple made me to. Anyway, it seems I don't have to stay logged in to the admin account for FMM to work. You'll notice that, even though FMM has been configured on the admin account, it will still appear as "authorization required" in the standard account.
    I hope this helps.

  • Display color profile bug when using the fast account switch from a guest account to an admin account (and vice versa)

    Hey,
I'm sometimes using a guest account on my MBP (unibody late 2008 2,4 GHz Core2Duo, 4GB DDR3 running OSX 10.9.4 on an OCZ 128GB SSD) for a more distraction-free working space and I noticed right away a disturbing bug:
Using the fast account switch (upper right hand corner of the screen) in Mavericks from an admin account to log into a guest account (or vice versa) produces, after the fancy rotating cube animation, some strange distortion of the desktop background happens (lasting approx. 2 sec.). After that the color profile of the display is changed into an usable but ugly one, which is disturbing while working with pictures. When checking the color profile in the pref pane, the standard "display" profile is said to be active (it's the one I use) but still the colors aren't the same. Selecting another profile and re-selcting the desired one doesn't fix the problem. Switching back to the other account with the fast switching leaves the colors altered. Logging out and deleting the guest account seems to the problem for the remaining admin account. Rebooting  and logging in to either of the accounts (admin or guest) from the standard account selecting page at booting shows the normal color profile.
Is it a general bug or is their anything a can do to prevent this problem (other than never using the fast switching)?
    Thanks for your advice.

I cannot agree more with your comments! What a way to frustrate your customers!
I have been having an issue with iCloud on Mac where it kept asking me for my password and sometimes would, sometimes would not continue to access my iCloud mail. Today it just refused to connect to iCloud mail.
I looked in the Mail, Contacts and Calendars in my MacBook Pro settings and discovered that 2 iCloud accounts were present. One with my original Apple ID (a gmail address) and a second with my new iCloud email ( an @me.com address). Having deleted the second account, using the new @me.com address everything is working fine.
So from my viewpoint when I moved over to iCloud I was asked to sign in with my Apple ID (the gmail address) then to create an @me.com address. However, as far as I can see all sign ins to the new @me.com account on Macbook, iPhone and iPad need to be done through the old Apple ID (the gmail address). Is that confusing and just plain crazy???
Further, after creating the new @me.com address I soon found out that this is apparently now forever bound to my old Apple ID and cannot be changed. I mean why can't I delete the iCloud account and start anew with a different @me.com address??? Also, as everybody using iCloud must create an @me.com address why on earth can I not get rid of my old gmail address and have my entire Apple ID accessed through the new @me.com address? Creating a whole new Apple ID will not solve this as we are unable to transfer purchases between accounts.
Apple products are great IMHO, but they do seem to not think things through in a very big way sometimes......

  • Yahoo login page incorrect for sub accounts but not admin account.

Using: Windows Vista OS and Mozilla Firefox 4.0.1.
BT Yahoo has a login page that allows the user to create a seal on the login page to help identify a valid website.
I am th main account/admin and I have no issues; everything looks good and correct.
My husband has a sub account, but there is no seal showing nor is there a clickable facility to create a seal.
This occured immediately after upgrading to Firefox 4 and unstalling and reinstalling did nothing. Had no issues prior to upgrade.
    Appreciate any helpful suggestions.

Any ideas regarding the weirdness of why my computer with a main account and a sub account with only one version of Firefox 4.0.1 manages to view the login page of Yahoo completely differently?

  • Restoring admin account from non-admin account

For a while I've had a problems booting and logging in, which is either a HD or corruption problem, but once in to my admin account, I'm fine for the rest of the day. (This isn't a question about these problems, I know I must do something separately about that.)
This morning I had greater problems than usual, followed by a problem in my admin account - having saved a document once, the next time I got ("[document] could not be saved"). So I restarted, but couldn't get from my login account to my main admin account (after the login details box disappeared, I was left with the empty Leopard splash screen). A second restart brought the same result. I can assume my admin account has some corruption?
I'd like to restore the admin account from the Users folder on yesterday's Time Machine backup, but how do I do that from one of my other accounts, all of which are non-admin accounts?

    christopher rigby1 wrote:
    2. They put Leopard on my machine as - incredibly - they didn't have Tiger install disks, but they couldn't give me the Leopard install disks so I can't do a system restore.
That's a violation of the license. Legally, you're running pirated software. Worse, you can't restore OSX or Apple apps, repair your internal HD, do a full system restore from your TM backups, etc.
You need a retail Leopard disc, period. If the folks who installed it won't supply it (you might gently suggest that you'll report them to Apple), call AppleCare and pay the $129. If you're going to run Leopard, you need to pay for it.
Or, return to Tiger. On your EHD running Tiger, use the Restore tab to copy the entire Tiger OSX volume to the internal HD. Be sure to check the +Erase destination+ box. That will, of course, erase everything on your Leopard installation. You might be able to copy some of the data elsewhere temporarily, then copy it back, but any data used by Leopard may not work with the Tiger apps.
I've now determined, by trying to login to the iMac HD via Restart+option that my admin account is corrupted - I can login to every other account but not that one.
However, as I explained, i can see all its folders and files via the Tiger account with the same name and password. Here is a possible action plan, let me know what you think?
    Does that sound workable?
    Doubtful.

  • Easy way to Xfer data from one admin account to another?

Say I've got an admin user account called "A." (shortname = A)
I no longer want the shortname A. Could I establish a new admin user acct called "B" (shortname = B) and then migrate all the data in A (prefs, files, visible and invisible, etc) to B and then delete A?
If so what app would I use for this? Migration Assistant? Something else?

Migration assistant only works reliably between similar processor (Intel to Intel or PowerPC to PowerPC) Macs, and/or external Firewire hard drives. It is described here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25773
You can also use my backup FAQ* as a guide to where user files are stored:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
And use the Users -> shared folder as a common folder to switch data between accounts.

  • The only account is the admin account, and i forgot my username.

I know i should of written it down somewhere, but i didnt think it was necessary.
P.s. this is the password that comes up after five minutes of me not using it.
I am the only account on my macbook, and i remember my password

Get out the disks that came with your computer, stick the #1 disk in and reboot the computer holding the c key down, you'll boot off the disk.
First screen is your language. Second screen is the OS X installer, stop there and look under the Utilities menu for Password Reset.
    Follow the instructions.

  • Multiple users under my name, can I transfer files/data onto just one user account if I have an external H.D.  when I tried to delete info off one of the accounts it said I did not have permission? I assume I was in an account that was not admin.

I noticed I have set up 4 Admin user accounts under my own name with diff. variations as seen in the attchment.  Some have a diff. password to log on to which I am able to do.  This computer is used for my business and I need info that is scattered on the other 3 accounts to be in/on ONE admin account.
I don't know how i ended up with multiple accounts.  Maybe due to having two 24" iMacs and multiple iPhones & iPad2 for me and family.
I use this computer for business and personal.
Due to multiple Admin user accounts I have important info scattered on the other accounts resulting in some accounts have some of the info to others having much more  but not ALL.   Some accounts have from a couple hundred songs, podcasts, etc. etc.  to a few 1,000 on another Admin account.
I want to consolidate ALL of my info, files. songs, podcasts, pictures & email etc. into one Admin account and delete the other accounts to reduce confusion.
I was told by my local Apple authorized service shop that it is not easy but moving most of the info is possible.  Their caveat was email would probably not be able to be moved other than forwarding each email I wanted out of each account and opening in the account I wanted to consolidate into.
As a side note,  I get an error message at times saying that I do not permission/authority to delete / move files?  What might be the issue when I encounter this type message?
    Thanks for any help.

  • In regard to Time Machine. I have two accounts one is an admin account, the other is a standard user account. When I implement Time Machine when I am logged into the Admin account, is the standard user also backed up?

    in regard to Time Machine.
I have two accounts on one Macbook Pro running OS 10.6.8. One account is an admin account, the other is a standard user account.
When I initially implemented Time Machine I was logged into the Admin account. I allowed Time Machine to erase the drive and backup the computer. Is the standard user account contents also backed up?
Also after I completed the Time Machine backup session, I turned off Time Machine and removed the portable hard drive. I plan to return in to Time Machine after being away from the portable hard drive for approximately a month. After a short interruption of approximately one month, when the Macbook Pro is reconnected and Time Machine is turned back on, will Time Machine create a new instance of a backup? WIll the back up contain the standard user account changes?

Time Machine backs up by default all the user accounts.
When you reconnect the backup drive after one month, Time Machine will do an incremental backup and it might take a while minutes to hours depending on how much has been changed. With a gap of a month, Time Machine will have to do a lengthier than normal survey of both drives to see what has changed, so it might take some time preparing for the backup. The backup will include everything that has changed since the previous one.

  • Can i delete my admin account and make a new one?

i want to start a new account cos i have so much rubbish on my current one. i have worked out how to make new accounts but cant work out how to delete my main (current) admin account?
any help would be great. thanks.

Create a new account with Admin privileges.
Backup important files (Documents, Music, etc).
    Log out of current account.
    Log into new admin account.
When you are sure you have backed up and moved everything over, you can then delete the old previous admin account. You can have more than one admin account so it's not necessary to delete immediately. Actually, it's not a bad idea to have another backup admin account for troubleshooting purposes.
Be advised though that you'll have to have separate names for each account.
