Multiple pages vs conditional regions

What are opinions and suggestions about:
using several regions on a page, with a navigation list, and the regions only appear conditionally
vs
separate pages?

For example, we have Files Load report. This page has 3 regions (hourly load summary, daily load summary and monthly load summary). There is a dropdown for the user to pick which region/report to display. If the user selects "Hourly", then Hourly Load Summary region is displayed. As you can see, these 3 regions display different summaries of the same report group called "File Load Summary". You can split this into 3 different pages, and each page can display one summary (i.e. first page to show hourly, second page to show daily, and the third one to show monthly load summary). This means you have to duplicate various validations and branches, which are pretty much going to remain the same across these 3 pages.

For future maintenance, it would be easier to make changes in just one region. Maintaining multiple copies of a region is more work and eventually someone will forget to change one of the regions.

Create your region on page 0 and then conditionally set the display of the region for specific pages in you application only.
Under the region's "condition type" attribute select " Current page is Contained within Expression 1 (comma delimited list of pages)" and in Expression 1 put 1,2,4,6,99 etc or what ever pages you want it to appear on.
This works especially well for tree regions.

ADF: want to add multiple instance of .jsff page in af:region dynamically

I am having following requirement.
We have one .jsff page, and we want to add multiple instance of this fragment page in <af:region> at runtime.
Basically our requirement is anyhow we want to add multiple panel which is having many other child component at run time.

Hmm.. only option left is i should add component at run time. but i am facing following issue...
I am trying to add child component into RichPanelStretchLayout object at runtime, but getFacetCount() and getFacet() method of RichPanelStretchLayout is returning 0 and null respectively.
can you please suggest me how can i add child component into RichPanelStretchLayout object?, i have directly added component using getChildered.add() method. but it wont work as i must need one facet object ( either START,BOTTOM or CENTER).

Hi There!
Working on a requirement where I need same region across multiple pages.
One way (Hard way) to do it is , repeat the region in all the pages.
Is there any other way (smart way) so that I can write region once and reference it in other pages ? ? ?

Yes, you can design this form on Page 0. Then this form will apply to every page.

Conditional region - multiple conditions

Hello,
I need to display a region only if 1) the page is in Printer Friendly mode AND 2) the value of a page item = 1. I tried using :P100_ITEM = 1 AND :PRINTER_FRIENDLY = 'YES', but that didn't work. Any ideas how to do this? Thanks.

I put the different things I've tried (in addition to your suggestion) in the HTML region. The HTML region should be the conditional region. I can only get #1 (no conditions) and #4 v('PRINTER_FRIENDLY') = 'YES' to work. If you have a minute, would you take a look at the page and see if you can tell me what I'm doing wrong. It seems like the value in P8_ITEM is not being recognized. I appreciate your help.

Spreading a single form across multiple pages

I'd like to implement a single record form that spreads it's items across multiple pages for the purpose of grouping related information on each page such as "Contact Details"," Education Profile" etc. There are way too many columns for a single page.
In Oracle forms you can create a form across multiple canvases or on different tabs of a tabbed canvas. Each item has a property to position it on which canvas.
Is this possible in ApEx? I can see that transaction processing could be complex.
How do I avoid, for example, inserting the record a second time if I commit from a different page?

Another way to do this without javascript and ajax that works pretty well is to setup a list that represents the logical "sections" and display it as a sidebar list.
Create a hidden item on the page called PX_ACTIVE_SECTION and set the visibility of each region on the page based on the value of this item. For example: :PX_ACTIVE_SECTION = 'Contact Details'. You can also have multiple regions associated with a single tab. Set the default value to whatever section you wish to display first.
Next, set each list item to be "current" when :PX_ACTIVE_SECTION is equal to that item ('Contact Details', 'Education Profile', etc.). Also set the URL destination of each item to: javascript:doSubmit('section name');
Finally, add a branch back to the current page that sets PX_ACTIVE_SECTION to &REQUEST.. This traps the doSubmit call so you can set the hidden item. (Add a condition, if needed, to prevent this branch from executing due to other buttons and requests).
The result is that the user can switch freely between sections and save after all data is entered. The page does refresh (since it doesn't use AJAX), but if your regions aren't too big, it should be reasonable.

Help with header field on multiple pages

I am trying to print three multiple page documents. The first document in the dat file has data in a header comment field. The last two documents in the dat file do not have data for the header comment field. On the form I have defined this comment field as global. When I print the documents the first document comment is being printed on the last two documents that should not have comments.
If I remove the global condition for the comment field, then the comment is only printed on the first page of the first multiple page document. Is it possible to print the comment on each page of the first multiple page document and not print the comment on the documents that should not have a comment? Thanks for any help.

The only thing at line 41 is the <body> tag. I took all

Checkbox in Tabular Form (Solution to span multiple pages)

We had a case where a large report needed to have check boxes. These check boxes would populate a list of id's which we then processed for a specific task. By default APEX doesn't support this.
After spending some time on this, I thought I'd post my solution to help any others who experience the same problems. For this example we will use P10
1. Create a new "normal" report.

I was trying to use your funda in my App. But i dont know why it is not doing anything.
Also i'm facing a very small but severe problem with one of my report. I am using checkbox. So that user will be able to select all those records he/she wants. but the problem is that when i'm selecting few records with the help of the check boxes, selections are there. When moving to other page and coming back to that page, selections are gone. I think selections should not go like this. Otherwise the user will get confused.
Can you tell me how can retain the check box selections??

Multiple page form to email with sessions doesn't send mail

I am creating a multiple page form where a user can apply for finance. I am trying to use session to keep the user input values and then the last page sent the application by email.
My problem is the last step where it doen't send the email. I'm not sure if it the session I'm using is wrong because a simple form without sessions works fine.

Standard Apple Mail. I'm running Yosemite 10.10.1, and I'm amazed to see that About Mail says it's Mail Version 8.1 (1993), copyright 1995-2014 Apple Inc.
Interesting thought, do you think that it doesn't like to work with itself? Actually, I'm fairly sure I've had the problem inside of other apps but I should document that. I'll keep notes to see where this happens.

How to set a template to multiple pages

Hello,
I'm using Oracle Portal 10.1.2.0.2 and I've created a hiearchy of pages and a template with regions for banner, navigation portlet and content area and I want to set up this template to multiple pages. Manually and uncomfortably, I can edit my page and in [Template] tab in [Properties] select my template. But how can I do it for example for a whole page group? Default template for page group doesn't work for me - though I've set up it in page group, in a particular page I still see [Page template]=none with no effect. Is it possible to do it through some sql query? (With specification of region, in which the page will be mapped?)

Observation:
Pages from one page group can't see templates from another page group. In case of multiple page groups I have to put my templates in [Shared objects]. Unfortunately I didn't find a way (if even exists) how to copy template from one page group to another, especially to shared objects :(

Multiple forms in one region???

Hello guys,
I have created application with couple of pages, but now I have one critical issue with one page.
In this page I have created multiple forms in one region by customize templated, that is working very much fine, but I unable to insert/update data into the DB table through this page.
My sinceraio is something like that, I have couple of tables, where p_id is common in all of the tables, now this issue page I have created multiple(2) forms in one region where both the forms are built but two separated DB tables in one both of them has one column in common ie p_id, the value of p_id is processed from the previous page.
I am aware of the apex limitation about one table for region and hence I created View from this two different tables and above that created INSTEAD OF trigger for insert and update purpose as through I can't, so.

Best way to design website with multiple pages

In dreamweaver what are your suggestions to create a full website with multiple pages where each page has a different but similar setup. I'd have a similar theme but I don't want each page to be exactly the same as the home page? I've tried a template but that was a nightmare since some of my pages were different from the original page and i had to mess with it to fix it.I've also made the home page, saved the html file in my website root folder then changed that page into the second page and saved it as another html file. I have thought about using pre-made templates and designs but I kind of want to design from my own creative viewpoint.

Templates do make your life much easier. I use the following scheme....
First, I mentally separate the page layout into three sections:
1. Stuff that will not change for the life of the site (i.e., the basic
structural elements)
2. Stuff that *could* change from time to time (e.g., navigation elements,
burst advertisements, section-specific navigation, etc.)
3. Stuff that *will* change from one page to the next
Then I create a template containing all class1 elements. Next I create
server-side include files containing all class 2 elements and place them on
the template as needed. Note - some of the class 2 elements may be
"section-specific elements", and their placement on the template will be
subject to the next item. Finally, I insert editable regions to cover the
class 3 items, INCLUDING the section-specific navigation.
This allows me to just cookie-cut the rest of the site. I estimate that
even for fairly large sites, about 80% of my work goes into planning and
creating this template file.
To handle pages that have substantially different layouts I just change the CSS on those pages, and leave the Template alone.

Printing Multiple pages in Smartform on Local printer

Hi guys,
I have a smartform with a command to print a page with the general conditions.
When I print this on a defined printer in SPAD everything goes fine (got 2 pages) but when I print this same form thru the Local printer I only get 1 page. It seems the second page is printed over the first.
Tried it with more pages, 1 with data then general conditions then data again, and it also prints it all on 1 page thru the Local printer. With the third page on top of the second on top of the first.
Does anybody know how to solve this issue.

Hi,
I checked the printers and they are using the normal SAPWIN type. I tried it with access method F and G but both give the same result. The page format used is the standard DINA4.
On the print preview it looks fine, when I print it on a printer from my windows session using the local printer it all prints on the first page (so it only shows the last page).
I tried to add the check SY-TABIX > 1 and it is the same issue.
The problem seems not to be with the smartform because if I print a layout which do not have a command to add an extra page but it contains enough data to print on multiple pages and we get the same result. Second page is printed over first page.

How to have a DML-Stat. page process between regions

i have a form with 6 regions.
in one of the region i place a button save.
i have a conditional process to insert the data in the table
after entering the data into the respective fields when i click the save button
it is giving this error.
ORA-01403: no data found
Error UNABLE TO INSERT
OK
what is this error why it is comming?
how to solve it? if anyone gives solution it would be a bright day for me.

3. I looked at your application. You did not tell me which page has the problem or how I could run the page to see the problem. So I looked around a bit and found:

4. It has no pages with 6 regions, and
Region names:
New contract info
client
followup
type
brief
reference
comment
terms
the items in these regions belongs to a view named vw_cont_card.
5. It has no pages with a "create" button in the last region, and
in the top region named "New contract info" i have the create button
6. It has no pages with conditional processes.
yes, there is no conditional processes, but Automatic Row Processing (DML) is present
My Problem is how to create a new record after inputing the datas into the items.

Need help with displaying content on multiple pages

Hi I'm kind of a dreamweaver newbie and i'm a little in over
my head. I'm trying to design a web site with the same content
appearing on multiple pages. Here's the current site...

I'm trying to establish the top bar and side bars of links
and the logo on each page from one point so i don't have to change
forty pages if i update a link.
I know there's a way to do this and i thought it was using a
CSS page but i can't figure it out and i'm running out of time.

Got it. Thank you. I'm having one other problem though. I
keep getting this bizare message every time i save or try to use
the template:
The is an error at line 41 column 7 (absolute position 2486)
of "~pathandfilename.dwt": Nested editable regions
The only thing at line 41 is the <body> tag. I took all
the formating out to try to trim this out... any thoughts about
this one.
