Multiple users of software on one i.d.

How can I transfer the new iPhoto version on my new laptop to an older machine that has an older version of iPhoto running on it?

On the older Mac sign into your account in the Mac App Store and download it onto the older Mac from the Purchases list.
To install the newest version of iPhoto, the older Mac must have OS X Mavericks 10.9 installed.

  • Multiple users and shopping carts, one searchable index?

    Hi all,
I've got an idea but I would like to know if it possible with Business Catalyst. I'll try and explain as simply as possible:
I have multiple users (let's say 10). They all need separate shopping carts as they are all selling different products. They all need their own admin areas that keep track of their incomes, workflows, shopping carts, etc. They are essentially 10 independent users. Will the WebCommerce10 plan satisfy their needs, or will 10 separate WebCommerce single plans need to be sold?
Taking the above into account, is there anyway to have 10 independent shopping carts, but they can all be searchable simultaneously? e.g. think eBay, lots of users with their own independent admin areas and products, but one search field returning many results from all the user's shopping carts? Is there anyway to achieve something like this with BC? Can subdomains do this? Any other ideas how to achieve this if none of the above is possible?
My plan B is having a landing page where a link for each of the 10 users will take them to their relevant shopping carts, but this experience isn't quite as integrated as I would like, from a web surfer's point of view.
    Thanks.

    Hi Robbie,
Yes, this would require significant modification to the shopping cart functionality. As it is now, it's very dependent the ShoppingCart being associated with the session and therefore the user. To change that would be significant work.
Additionally, if you had two people logging in to the same account and editing the same order around the same time, this would tend to not to work well. This is because two users would be two sessions and they would often get routed to different app server instances. Because the way orders are managed, there's no way to immediately sync up the changes between multiple instances, and if you managed to do it would likely slow things down drastically. I would not recommend trying this with ATG.
    Thanks.

  • Multiple users identified when only one on the machine - me

I am experiencing very slow internet communication and when trying to download latest App from Apple the guidance tells me that I need to shut down 'multiple users' when I am the only user shown on our machine.  We did suffer a power cut a few days ago when the computer was being used.  Would this 'upset' the system into thinking that it is still in use by the 'other user(s)' - is it possible to 'reset' to in effect clear this - I am using TimeMachine.
Normally I get good but not brilliant internet response but since the power cut we do seem to be running very slow - well that's out anaylis so far but any other suggestions as to how to get back to normal would be welcome.
I have run MacKeeper to see if it can find anything untoward.
    Rodney

    Hi Rodney
Let me address your issues in reverse order.
First, Mackeeper is extremely bad software, and is very often the cause of slow Macs. My recommendation is that you uninstall it immediately, and see if that improves your speed.
    http://help.mackeeper.zeobit.com/Manual/GettingStarted/UninstallingMacKeeper.htm l
Next, can you describe what "app" you are downloading from Apple? Is it a software update?
How much hard drive space do you have available? Click cmd-i on your Macintosh HD shortcut and look at the "available" value.
It would be helpful if you could include your version of OS X in your profile. You say "iOS 7" which is iPhone/iPad software, not Mac software.

  • Multiple Users....One iTunes Library

I am looking find a easier solution to a iTunes multiple user problem I have encountered.Firstly I have followed the steps outlined on numerous articles here to move the music content out of the home folder and move it to the first level of the harddrive and to link all users to this library through the advanced option within iTunes. This I can do no problem and works fine for using the on music content between two users.
Now here is where I am looking for assistance...At the moment when I link the second user to this music library, I must input all playlists and song ratings from scratch. I would like to move my iTunes preferences from one user to the other.Basically I have one music library that is many playlists broken down by artists and also this music is rated. I would like to be able to have this info move across to the other user also.
I have tried a few things to solve this but the end result was moving playlist/song ratings from the main user to the second user....which would have been perfect, but the main user lost this info when I attempted this.
Is this possible....sorry for the long winded explanation and I do hope you can understand the problem that I am trying to explain

Brent, A key is to understand the difference between a library and the music folder. The iTunes Library file is a file that acts as a directory or catalog for a music collection. The Music Folder is where the actual holdings, or files, of the music collection are stored. When you set the music folder location in Preferences:Advanced, you tell iTunes where to store future music files you add to your holdings. Apparently, you have iTunes set up so different user accounts are saving new music files to the same music folder. However, those different users are each using their own library file, and that's why you're not sharing the same directory information across different user accounts.
What you have to do is get each user account to use the same library file, which for at least all but the first user is not going to be the default iTunes Library file that is automatically created in each user's iTunes folder. That is what the instructions in the previous post involving launching iTunes with the Option key accomplish.

  • Multiple Users - Concurrent Software Development on X Server

How can I setup the X Server to allow for multiple users to connect and concurrently do development activity (use iPhone SDK for developing applications) activities?

Oké, I will give it a try.
X server, you mean MacosX server or really X server?
However this hangs to development, I guess you should ask this in the unix forum.
I do use MacosX server, but actually, don't `need` it for the development itself. You can use it for sharing of documents with afp smb etc, but you can do that with a client too. If people are outside of your LAN, then set up a VPN.
Keep control who may logon and then they work as if it was local.
I did use VPN, but for now I did turn it off. Did mess up with a few things. :-/
    What I still do,
Docs like UML, tech docs, images, which all are project in-depended and taken from the web or from a third party, I share those via AFP.
Project independed documents, drawing etc, and documents that a project member or I did wrote are checked in by the writer at a svn server, and are semi automatic checked out to the afp share.
Project depended documents, drawing etc, and documents that a project member or I did wrote are checked in by the writer at a svn server, and can be checked out locally at will of the developer.
The same with the xCode personal setting, found at
    /Users/<developer>/Library/Application Support/Developer/Shared/...
    and
    /Users/<developer>/Library/Application Support/Developer/3.2/...
    /Users/<developer>/Library/Application Support/Developer/3.1/...
( I use the later ones on when I am not sure if my templates or whatever is not versions wide compatible ). They are accepted by xcode.
I will ( still busy with that ) sync parts of that with the server, but I use a sync application for that. Still no need for macosx server.
But like the scripts.plist, it dangerous to just sync that file, when more people add scripts on that file between syncs.
So because macosx client can do afp shares and you need a svn server ( I use Subversion ), it is no demand to have a macosX server.
If you want to do timesharing for compiling than just install a xcode on your 'server' and leave it running and set the setting under the 'distribution build' tab in the xcode preferences. I did use this only one time, so no real experience.
At the beginning it is hard to manage, but after a period when things get settled it good to be there.
    HTH
If you mean something differently then someone else can fill in. and am also curious how other people or groups are doing this.
For the specific things like VPN, I guess you have to loo at the unix or networking forum

  • Multiple users/gift cards on one account

I have what I would imagine to be a common scenario but not sure how to handle. Before yesterday, we had one teenager using the home PC on a iTunes account linked to our CC for any purchases she needed to pay us back for. We now have 2 more teenagers who need to do the same with their new iPods and all 3 kids have gift cards. How do we ensure they can all use their gift cards separately, but still link any additional purchases back to our common account linked to our CC? I have seen several posts about how to use multiple iPods on the same PC but not how to manage iTunes accounts in relation to multiple gift cards and a common iTunes account for billing purposes which should be common. I want to make sure I set this up properly from the start so any aasistance is appreciated.

I would suggst creating a new iTunes accounts for each user using their own gift cards. You don't need a CC if you use a gift card.
Go to the iTunes store screen and click Redeem at the top right under *Quick Links*.
Enter the gift card number then select *Create new account*. At the CC details scene, select None.
but still link any additional purchases back to our common account linked to our CC?
You cannot. They can all be on the some computer.
Any gift cards put onto a single iTunes store account are put into that one account. Anything purchased by anyone will be deducted from the total.

  • Can I get multiple User-defined variables in one slide?

I have used the user defined variables in the past to collect identifiying information on quiz results, as well as for quiz certificate.  I would like to re-use the variables in a couple of areas.  in my project, one slide will prompt the User Name (variable I created), second will prompt for User ID (variable I created).  I would like a third screen that reads "Confirm your previous entries", and I want it to show the two variables.  I am only seeing the first one.  Is there a way to get them both to display?
I would also like to re-use both in the quiz certificate at the end.  If I edit the certificate widget in Flash, will both variable display?
This quiz reports to me via email (we have no LMS).
    Any suggestions?
    Cyndi Nagel

    Hi again
Did you shrink the screen shot before uploading? You're right. It's barely legible.
If the variables are being inserted in more than one caption, have you double checked the timing? Perhaps something is pausing the slide before one of the captions has a chance to appear.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Is there a way to use music from multiple users itunes libraries on one iMac for a slideshow in Aperture?

I am trying to put together a slide show for a trip my wife and I took to England. I would like to be able to use music from both our itunes libraries in the slide show. I am using Aperture to create the slide show since it seems to be more versatile than iPhoto for this. Only trouble is that when I log into my username on the iMac I only see my iTunes library and similar when logging into her username. We have different music but would like to use some from each library in the slide show.

You can only use one library at a time in an Aperture slideshow, so I'd suggest to simply collect the audio that you want to use in a folder (export the songs from both iTunes Libraries) and then import this folder to Aperture. Now you have a project containing the audio files; you will see it in the Aperture Audio section of the audio Browser, right above the iTunes section.
You can use the Apperture audio just like the audio in iTunes to drag to the timeline of your slideshow.

  • Have multiple users but want only one iphoto library...

How do I set up my accounts so that there is only 1 iphoto library on the machine?
I don't want to worry about whether pictures were downloaded from camera by me or my husband.
    Thanks in advance.

If you have an external drive, put the library there and use Get Info to "Ignore ownership on this volume." You will each have equal access to the library.
If you don't have an external drive, you can do the same thing with a partition.

  • Autologin to an account when using multiple users

Is there a way to have a mac running Mac OS 9 set up with multiple users autologin to one of the accounts?
Ok, since I know people will ask why do you want to do that. I have an old mac and found my old XTension home automation software. I want to make this machine a dedicated home lighting controller. (I have a new mac mini doing this in my house, but I wanted to play with the old machine for fun). Now, I have multiple users set up and one account for home automation that has the panel version of the finder and the only application visible is XTension. This all works great.
If the power goes out, I want the machine to reboot into this home automation account automatically. I also want to have the machine power cycle once a week just to keep from any memory problems etc.

    Hi, Mark -
I know of no way that could be set up, since nothing usable runs until an account is logged into.
I assume that you want to retain the ability to switch to a full OS whenever needed; otherwise, the solution would be to turn Multiple Users off, and set the OS up the way you want it for automation purposes.
Two possible solutions allowing the retention of the ability to have a fully-operational OS available -
    • Partition the hard drive, then install OS 9 on both (it can be installed on one, then copied via drag-and-drop to get it on the other partition also). Set one up as a fully-functional OS, and the other as a limited-to-automation one. Once you set the startup disk selection to the partition with the automation version, whenever the machine is restarted it will continue to use that one. You can use Startup Disk control panel to switch booting to the other OS when needed. Note - partitioning a drive will erase its entire contents, so you would need to first back up anything you do not want to lose.
    • Similar to the preceding, but, provided your machine has the capability to accept a second internal drive, add a hard drive to provide the second volume.
The advantage of the first one is that there is no additional cost. The advantage of the second is that you need not erase the original drive.

If you are using this for just Home Automation, why not turn off the "Multiple Users" add-ons and have it revert to a single-user system. Look at the "Multiple Users" Control Panel.

  • Multiple users in Time Machine

Before receiving a new motherboard, TM backed up multiple users.  After the new motherboard, only one user was backed up.  Now TM will not index before the date where multiple users were replaced by one user (who was also present in the users from earlier backups).  Do I need to recreate those users in order for TM to index earlier backup sets?

Thanks for the quick reply. But when I log on under the standard account is when I only see blank finder windows. Any other ideas?
I don't think we're on the same page. When signed-on as the standard user, open a Finder window to +that user's+ home folder, then go into TM. You should then see +that user's+ backups, for all backups since that user was created.
If all you see is the +Today (Now)+ window, that's an occasional bug in Snow Leopard. Just exit TM and try again.

  • HT1529 I have multiple users on my Mac and I was wondering how you tell the system to retain all the user names so they don't have to enter their email addresses every time ???

I have multiple users on my Mac and I was wondering how you tell the system to retain all the user names so they don't have to enter their email addresses every time ???

    Email addresses into what?
Each user should have their own account and password to log in.  Each is independent of the other.  So for Mail each has their own Mail account if they set one up in Mail.
That's the way it should be set up.  Are you using a single account and allowing multiple users to use that one single account?  If so then in Mail at least you could set up individual mail accounts.  But everything else in the system is shared.

  • Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.

Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.
I'm NOT in any way a Terminal Services expert and I need help trying to get an application program working in a multi-user environment.
The issue is that the printer changes for every user that is logged in. The application needs to print NOT to the default printer, but to a "special" printer which is selected in the application... let's call it a label printer to simplify the explanation.
You have your default regular printer, easy for the application to find that one, and then you have a special printer that labels get printed onto. The application needs to know what printer is the label printer. So we allow the user to select that in the
application and the selection is stored in a config file in
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
I don't have access to the application so I can't change how this works.
In the "regular" world, selecting the label printer driver to use should be per machine, NOT per user. When a new user logs into a machine, the physical printer doesn't go "poof" and a new printer suddenly appear. Same printer for all
    users.
Yet in terminal services, the physical machine is "merged" with the virtual machine on the server. And there can be many users logged in at the same time. So each users real machine (and real printer) is injected into the "fake" terminal
services machine. The name of the printers is made unique for each user. So the printers DO go "poof" and change names depending on the user logged into terminal services.
So user "A" logs in and sets up the application to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" (or whatever the name of the printer happens to be), that setting is stored in the ProgramData subfolder, and all is well. Later, user "B" logs
in, and when they print, the application tries to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" which doesn't exist for user B or is only accessible by user A. If user B re-configures, that breaks it for user A.
SOLUTION 1: The way that /should/ work (in my mind) is that you define one "generic" printer in Terminal Services... call it "Virtual Label printer" and when the user wants to print to it, the print job gets re-directed back to whatever
physical printer is actually connected to their local workstation. There is a map of virtual printer to actual printer depending on the current user. The application is told once to print to "Virtual Label Printer" for all users.
SOLUTION 2: Or... there should be some way to make the ProgramData sub folders separate per user. E.g. when user "A" tries to access:
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    they actually get
    C:\UserData\UserA\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    and user "B" gets
    C:\UserData\UserB\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
So the question I have is: Does either of those solutions exist hidden somewhere in the setup of terminal server? Or is there another way around this issue that I don't know?

I don't really have a "for sure" answer to this, but because people here can't seem to deal with a question that hasn't been answered I'll provide the best answer I did receive from ServerFault.com user Nathan:
I can feel your pain with using old software on terminal servers ...the solution I've come up with definitely won't scale as it requires some manual configuration, but I've gotten this method to work with our label printers (which require to be
printed to an LPT port...yep, that old).
Share your USB-connected printers to the network on each machine. Then, have the user log in on aunique session for each of them
(a TS account cannot be shared among computers for this to work) and install a network printer pointing to the USB one they shared. Try to use a DNS name to account for possible DHCP movements.
After, it should work. Each user can do this since display names can be identical as long as the ports are different (which they are).
This was clarified by the following series of comments:
I think you are on to something here, and I originally advised the admin to do this. The problem he ran into is that it setup the printer names in the TS as "printer on usersworkstation"
and he could not rename it except to change the "printer" to whatever. E.g. the "on userworkstation" remained. I believe there is another way of installing the printer which avoids this, but I can't find it. Ages ago, one used to do NET

@JamesNewton That's actually the exact method we used. The way around the "network printer" part is to install it as local printer and map it to a TCP/IP port that way. –  Nathan

You mean in the case where the printers are TCP/IP connected and not local USB / LPT to the users workstation? That makes sense. Wonder if this will work for USB connected printers... –  James

@JamesNewton You'd share the local printer on the client's PC then on the server connect via TCP/IP to it. You'd need static addresses or use DNS names if DHCP, though. –  Nathan
