Creating Variable with Replacement Path to get value from ANOTHER Variable
Hi all,
Is anyone has created the Variable with Replacement Path to get the value from another User Entry Variable, PLEASE ?
First created the User Entry Variable (ZV_X) and it accepts the date range like '01/01/2009 - 01/31/2009'. Next created the Characteristic variable (ZV_Y) of Replacement Path for which source variable will be ZV_X and we should get the 'FROM Date' (01/01/2009) from the selection (ZV_X) into it (ZV_Y).
While creating the Characteristic variable (ZV_Y) of Replacement Path, I didn't find my newly created ZV_X variable in the list of available variables under 'Variable' header in 'Replacement Path' tab and it is causing the error 'Source to replace variable ZV_Y is not defined'. How could I create the Characteristic variable of Replacement Path for my requirement, PLEASE ?
The following is from help.sap..com:
Replace with Characteristic Value
Text and formula variables with the processing type Replacement Path can be replaced with a corresponding characteristic value. In the variable editor, on the General tab page, you specify under Reference Characteristic the characteristic that is to be referenced by the replacement. On the Replacement Path tab page, you can choose whether the variable is replaced with the From or the To Value and with the Key or the Name of the characteristic value. You can also specify the Offset Start and Offset Length for the output.
Replace with Variable
Characteristic value variables, hierarchy variables, text variables, and formula variables with the Replacement Path processing type can take their values from a different variable.
The following prerequisites need to be fulfilled:
Variable
● The variable must not be input-ready
● The variable must represent a single value
Source Variable
● The source variable must not be a hierarchy node variable
● The source variable must be input-ready
● The source variable must be available in the query
● The source variable must represent a single value or an interval
In the variable editor, on the Replacement Path tab page, you specify the source variable from which the value is to be determined. The value is either determined from the key, the external attribute of the key, the description, or the attribute value. You can specify an Offset Start and an Offset Length for the output here. The variable is replaced on the variable screen upon each data release.
Thanks,
Venkat.Hi Eve,
It is possible to connect the 2 queries using a Replacement Path characteristic variable. You would need to create the variable on the char whose values you want to pass from Q1 to Q2. The variable will be of type replacement path and you will need to enter the name of Q1 from which it will get the values. Make sure that you include this char in the query definition of Q1 and Q2. In Q2 you will restrict the characteristic using this variable. DO not use this variable (replacement path) in Q1.
In your query properties check if you have turned on the checkmark for Release for OLE DB for OLAP (3rd tab). If the check mark is there, then remove it.
We are using the scenario in a couple of places, and it works very well.
Hope this helps... -
Is there a posibility of creating a variable on Replacement path value?
Hi all,
We have 2 characteristics 1)Posting date 2)System Date, using Replacement path option i could create a formula saying No: of Days= System Date - Posting Date.
Requirement has come in such a way that ,we want No:of Days in variable screen, so that if we enter No: Of Days > 21, we get all the values which are greater than 21.
Pls advice us.
Thanks all in avance.
Regards,
Praveenuse another varaible on screen with replacement path customer exit and ready for input with dafault value 21., then in code do the logic of enter data < or > No: of days.,

Using Characteristic value with Replacement path variable
Hi All,
Could you please let me know if it is possible to use charecteristic value instead of key figure with replacement path variable. My requirement is to use factory calendar id as the replacement variable on plant characteristic, now when I choose replcaement variable with Attribute value, the dropdown menu only gives the list of key figures assigned as an attributes to Plant.
Now I am looking for a solution to use factory calendar id as the attribute.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Replacement Path: Replacement with a Variable Value
How I can show the value of a variable entered by the user in the description of the column in the report?
X and Y are variables entered by the user and reflect the lower limits of the range for count documents
Example
Table
0doc_type Material_type Purchase_group < X => X And <=Y > Y
XXX BBBBB CCCCCC 3 4 5Hi...
Use a text variable in the column description,
and use replacement path to show the descriptions as required.
lets say you have variable 1 and variable 2
create two text variables with processing type replacement path and select the above variables for each.
Eg. the descriptions of your columns would be something like this after using text variables
Total number of documents which are lower than &txt_var_x&.
Total number of documents which are between &txt_var_x&. and &txt_var_y&..
Total number of documents which are greater than &txt_var_y&..
Hope this helps,

Issue with Using Replacement path to pass values after condition in BI 7.0
Hi All,
I am using a replacement path variable in a query (Query 2) which is populated from another query (Query 1).
Query 1 has a condition based on formula variables which works fine when I run Query 1 separately. It filters to display only entries that satisfy the condition (from 6 entries to 5 after condition).
But the replacement path variable in Query 2 is getting populated with all the 6 values from Query 1 irrespective of the condition. I need only the filtered/valid records (5 records) to be passed..
Does anyone have this issue? System seems to ignore the condition altogether.
As a test, I changed the condition in Query 1 to TOP 2 entries. Only 2 entries showed up in Query 1. However, Query 2 contained 6 entries (initial list before condition).
My condition setting in Query1 is set to "Most Detailed Characteristic Along the Rows".
I am on BI 7.0 Support Pack 20. Is this a BI 7.0 issue?Hi,
Your 1st query brings all the rows and just applies condition on front end / Analyzer for display purpose.
If you check Over All Result it will show data for all 6 rows even.
If you want to see proper result on analyzer you must have to set the properties -Calculations-Calculate Result As- Summation or Sum.
I donu2019t think condition will help you to filter the number of rows and use as input query. It will work on analyzer only. Try to apply the condition on your final query (2nd query).

PATH() issue - The Value 'Val123' has multiple values
Im using PATH() to get a flattened hierarchy. I keep getting the following error:
Calculation error in column 'Detail'[]: Each value in 'Detail'[UniqueID] must have the same value in 'Detail'[ParentTest]. The value 'A00012:A123' has multiple values.
I know with 100% certainty that there are not multiple values for A00012:A123.
I have also copied the data ( from the powerpivot Designer) to another workbook and cannot reproduce the issue.
Can anyone advise what might be going on here? Im using Excel 2010 32bit, if its any use. If i can supply any further information please let me know.
ThanksI found the issue. In a seperate set of rows there was a duplicate. the rows had nothing to do with the rows that were actually mentioned in the error message. so a cause has been identified.

How to use independent replacement paths for same KF over several months?
Dear Experts,
I have a query requirement to show KF values for items that meet a condition on another KF for a five month period. I know that I can accomplish this using a replacement path variable on item for one month at a time, however I am not sure how to do this for multiple months in one query.
This is an example:
Month 1
KF 1 > 0 for Items A & B.........so show KF 2 for for Items A & B
Month 2
KF 1 > 0 for Items B & C.........so show KF 2 for for Items B & C
Month 3
KF 1 > 0 for Items A & C.........so show KF 2 for for Items A & C
Thanks in advance for your help!
KathrynOk, Nancy, code copy/ paste did work fine.
what does this mean:
"Change the image in the properties panel to display your new image."
(the image is displaying ok)
NEverthesless, I think I got Murrays old notes.
Here is my new version of Murrays writing, easiest way I think:
You open up a pre-existing html, say Chicago. Then drag over with pointer to the new jpeg you want (Buffalo). It replaces Chicago with the buffalo jpeg, all links work perfectly. Then do a save as called Buffalo. -
Replacement Path Variable with Another Variable
Hi,
I am currently trying to create a report that would need me to have the same values for different characteristics (e.g. clearing date, posting date, net due date). I have seen that there is a way in the replacement path variable that would replace its value with another variable that is ready for input. I also looked into SAP help but I can't seem to figure out on how to do it specifically. Does anyone know a step-by-step process on how to do this? How does this work?
Thank you in advance!take an e.g.
u have characteristic say ch1
u want to restrict it with replacement path variable
first of all create a variable var1
click what it is based upon for e.g. 0calday, 0material etc.
make it user entry variable
select single or multiple entry
make it mandatory
save it and hit okey
click on ch1
right click and say restrict
in new window create a new variable
give its name and technical name
processing path is replacement path
go to next tab of replacement path
select several ooptions
replace variable with another variable
select a variable called var1
change the offset length and offset start with different parameters.
hit okey
this way u have restricted ch1 with replacement path variable var1
now when u run report u have to enter value of var1
which will then further feeded to ch1
this way u can create replacement path variables at lots of instances and then u can always feed the value from var1 at different time
make sure as this ur requirement is date
try to use 0calday as reference infoobject all the times.... -
Variable replacement path with another variable
Hi Guru's
I'd like to use the functionnality of replacement path from a variable.
Well, i have variable V_1 which is a basic manual entry variable based on a date infoobject. this variable is not mandatory and accessible.
And i have the variable V_2 which should be based on V_1 so i created V_2 with a process replacement path and in the replacement tab i put V_1 (i try with the list but i didn't find my V_1)
But the result is that V_2 is always empty but i have no problem when i check the query
So do you have any idea ?
Why i can not see the V_1 in the list of variable from the replacement ?
I don't want to use by exit. i know that it is possible but i want to use the main simple functionnality for flexibility is maintenance by users.
Thanks for help
Cyrilthanks for your answer,
svu123, my V_1 variable is of course in a correct status to be used. i made test in first without V_2.
And when i create V_2 in the first tab i activated correctly the replacement in processing type. if not i can not choose
the query or variable source and i can not see the list of variables.
Rakesh, i tried what you answered without results. i check different variables that are available in the list and i have
lots of different variables (all in ready for input) but i have interval, multiple single values, SAP standard variables my own variable on other fields.
any other ideas ?
many thanks

Replacement path variable with offsets
Hi experts,
I have the requirement to report receivables (open items) historically by fiscal year / period.
More precisely, each period should show the open items that are open at the end of the period.
Example:
001.2010 (shows open items from 31.01.2010)
002.2010 (shows open items from 28.02.2010)
...etc.
The idea is that the user enters a fiscal year/period using a manual entry variable.
The open items should be calculated as follows:
KF: Amount
Posting Date <= Variable
Clearing > Variable or unassigned
Variable is a replacement variable that is replaced by attribute "Date To" from the user entry Variable (Fiscal year period)
E.g. if the user enters 008.2010, then this value is automatically replaced by 31.08.2010.
Generally this works.
However, to view the values for the last 12 months, a structure is needed consisting of 12 elements with offsets in order to show the 12 months prior to the selected period (e.g. 001.2010 - 002.2010 - 003.2010 ....etc.)
The problem is that the replacement only considers the user's variable entry and ignors the offsets.
Example:
User enters 008.2010.
In the column strucure I show 3 months 006.2010, 007.2010, 008.2010.
Then all columns would show items open on 008.2010 - the offsets are ignored.
Any idea, why this happens and how it can be resolved?
This problem has given me a headache for days.
Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks and regards,
Alex
The user should be able to enter a fiscal year / period andtake an e.g.
u have characteristic say ch1

Replacement Path and Aggregation
I need to use a characteristic in a formula so I used the replacement path trick that I found using these forums. Thanks! I have an issue though. In order for the replacement path to work it seems like I have to have the characteristic in my "rows" section. I don't want to see the characteristic in my result set so I have it flagged as "no display". Now the data doesn't summarize correctly.
My data is showing up like:
ABC,123
ABC,234
DEF,123
DEF,234
I want it to show as:
ABC,357
DEF,357
I know the reason ABC and DEF are showing multiple times in the first example is because there are two different values for the hidden replacement path characteristic, but I don't want multiple rows. Is there a way around having hidden characteristics preventing summarization?Let me give you a better example...
We sell paint. I have an infocube that is at the cans sold grain. If I were to do a query on Color and Cans sold it would return
ColorSold, CansSold
Red, 1
Green, 1
Blue, 3
Orange, 2
Yellow, 3
We don't really have green and orange on stock, we make it upon request by blending the two primary colors. We don't have the data at that level though, only cans sold level. The customer wants to have the data summarized by the base stock colors sold. I know the components though, so I created a table that looks like this...
ColorSold, ColorStock, ColorFactor
Red, Red, 1
Blue, Blue, 1
Yellow, Yellow, 1
Green, Blue, .5
Green, Yellow, .5
Orange, Red, .5
Orange, Yellow, .5
I made a data store out of the table and joined it to my infocube using an InfoSet. I need to be able to do a left outer join, but that isn't really important. Even though ColorFactor is a number, I made it a characteristic because it always tried to aggregate improperly.
My new data set would look something like this. Notice if you were to total it up, you would get double the cans sold for the blends...
ColorSold, ColorStock, ColorFactor, CansSold
Red, Red, 1, 1
Green, Blue, .5, 1
Green, Yellow, .5, 1
Blue, Blue, 1, 3
Orange, Red, .5, 2
Orange, Yellow, .5, 2
Yellow, Yellow, 1, 3
I made a formula variable with a replacement path of ColorFactor called ColorFactor% and made a caculated key figure from multiplying CansSold * ColorFactor% and named it AdjustedCansSold
ColorSold, ColorStock, ColorFactor, AdjustedCansSold
Red, Red, 1, 1
Green, Blue, .5, .5
Green, Yellow, .5, .5
Blue, Blue, 1, 3
Orange, Red, .5, 1
Orange, Yellow, .5, 1
Yellow, Yellow, 1, 3
What I want to end up with is...
ColorStock, AdjustedCansSold
Red, 2
Blue, 3.5
Yellow, 4.5
The problem is, when I simply hide ColorFactor it yeilds.... because it is still in the characteristics.
ColorStock, ColorFactor, AdjustedCansSold
Red, 1
Blue, .5
Yellow, .5
Blue, 3
Red, 1
Yellow, 1
Yellow, 3
When I pull it out completely it hoses up the calculated key figure.
So I either need to be able to remove ColorFactor from the characteristics or figure out a different way to get to the end state that the customer needs. Hopefully this helps. I appreciate your responses thus far. -
Hi Experts,
I have a problem.
I wanted to use a characteristic as a key figure in one report.
So i used a formula variable. I created the variable with replacement path as the characteristic.
In the property of the formula i set the aggregation as the characteristic itself.
When i ran the report, the formula variable is giving me wrong values.
For example:
This is what it should come,
Product Sales order
Rubber 35000
Mobile 900000
But the report generated says,
Product Sales order
Rubber 35932
Mobile 900789
Help me plsHi Vignesh,
That will depend on what you want to show.
What is logic for selecting only one sales order against a product(since each product has multiple how will you know which one is the corresponding one??)
If you want the show the first or last values, you can set so in the calculation tab of the key figure
hope it helps

Error while creating a Characteristic Variable with Replacement Path
Hi all,
I am trying to create the Characteristic Variable ZVLOWDT (Low Date') with Replacement Path on characteristic ZSTARTDT (Start Date) and it gives the error 'Source to replace 'Low Date' is not defined.
I have created a User Entry Variable VAR_DATE (Start Date) with interval like '01/01/2009 - 01/15/2009' and Customer Exit variable ZVCPDAY (does some calculation based on the input of VAR_DATE) on the same ZSTARTDT characteristic. I want to get the 01/01/2009 (lower range date of the selection) into this Characteristic Variable ZVLOWDT. We are in BI 7.0 and the following are it's properties:
General Tab:
Description: Low Date
Technical Name: ZVLOWDT
Type of Variable: Characteristic Value
Processing by: Replacement Path
Reference Characteristic: ZSTARTDT Start Date
Details Tab:
Variable Represents : Single value
Variable is: Mandatory
Variable is Ready for Input : unchecked
Replacement Path Tab: Replacement Rule
Replace Variable with : Variable
Variable : VAR_DATE
Replace with : KEY
Why I am getting this error, PLEASE ?
Thanks,
Venkat.Hi Khaja,
We could derive a Variable value from another Variable with out Customer Exit. There is a white paper.
First have the User Entry Variable (ZV_X) and it accepts the date range like '01/01/2009 - 01/31/2009'. Next create the Characteristic variable (ZV_Y) of Replacement Path for which source variable will be ZV_X and we could get the 'FROM Date' (01/01/2009) from the selection (ZV_X) into it (ZV_Y).
While creating the Characteristic variable (ZV_Y) of Replacement Path, I didn't find my newly created ZV_X variable in the list of available variables under 'Variable' header in 'Replacement Path' tab and it is causing the error 'Source to replace variable ZV_Y is not defined'. How could I create the Characteristic variable of Replacement Path, PLEASE ?
Thanks,
Venkat.
