Multitasking in Task Sequence SCCM 2012

Hello,
Is it possible to set Multiple Scheduling in Task Sequence. And if yes what schedule will the system use for deployment.
For example if we are deploying a application using the task sequence by scheduling 2 different schedule (1st. Log on & 2nd Asap). Which is the one will the system use first for the deployment of the application on the Client machine.
Thanks,
Kavin

Hi,
It's possible to set multiple Scheduling when you deploy the Task Sequence. Generally we don't deploy a Task Sequence twice to the same collection with different scheduling, because that makes no sense.
If the Task Sequence is required, the system would use which deployment should be determined by the time we sheduled.

    Hi,
    Yes, the client need to be able to ping MP server using FQDN(servername.domainname.com).

  • How to prompt for OU during OSD Task with SCCM 2012 R2?

    How to prompt for OU during OSD Task with SCCM 2012 R2?

    Hi,
    Here is an example on how to do it using a Variable prompt in Configuration Manager, It works the same way in SCCM 2007,
    http://www.the-d-spot.org/wordpress/2013/04/01/dynamically-join-computer-to-ad-ou-during-osd-with-sccm/

  • ConfigMgr client no longer installing during task sequence SCCM 2007

    I've been trying to create an image and deploy an image of Dell Latitude E6430 laptops that while the deployment of the image works it does not install the SCCM client (configmgr client).  This used to work in my environment but no longer does.
    I can deploy the client manually either through the SCCM console or from the client itself.  But during the task sequence deploying a captured image it does not install and thus and software I need installed as part of the TS does not get installed.
    But the rest of the image works fine including driver deployment, sysprep, domain join, etc.  If I watch the job run I do see it start downloading the SCCM client during the TS job but then reboots and that's it.  Not sure where to look to see what
    could be going on.  I read somewhere about a possible driver issue but if the rest of the TS works and all drivers install then how could it be that?  If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it!  Oh by the way I'm still using
    SCCM 2007, haven't upgraded yet.  Thanks!
    Brian Stein

    What's interesting is in the smsts.log file it shows that part of the TS completed successfully.  So I'm going to try importing the cab files just to make sure I'm all set with that and I will change my TS to NOT auto apply drivers but rather I'll point
    directly to the new driver package I created from the extracted cab and will follow up then.  If interested a copy of the smsts.log file found inside the _SMSTaskSequence folder on the client machine (2/3 of the way down I 'bolded' the line where it seems
    to say the configmgr client step succeeded:

  • X230 fails to do Task Sequence (SCCM)

    Hi,
    I have uploaded new windows updates to a wim-image and trying to install the updated image via sccm task sequence. Everything goes fine, but when the windows installation is finishing, I get the error:
    I have checked the following thread on T440P problems and the Kernel Mode Driver Framework v1.11 -update doesn´t work in my case. Also there was advice that I would need to press shift-F10 and check the logs, but shift-F10 is not working when the error appears. Anyone else having similar problems?

    http://ola.hallengren.com/sql-server-index-and-statistics-maintenance.html
    and then use this SQL script weekly to rebuild the SCCM 2012 R2 indexes:
    EXECUTE dbo.IndexOptimize
    @Databases = 'USER_DATABASES',
    @FragmentationLow = NULL,
    @FragmentationMedium = 'INDEX_REORGANIZE,INDEX_REBUILD_ONLINE,INDEX_REBUILD_OFFLINE',
    @FragmentationHigh = 'INDEX_REBUILD_ONLINE,INDEX_REBUILD_OFFLINE',
    @FragmentationLevel1 = 5,
    @FragmentationLevel2 = 30,
    @UpdateStatistics = 'ALL',
    @OnlyModifiedStatistics = 'Y'
    Then do I still need to enable the built-in database re-indexing maintenance task in the SCCM 2012 R2 console?
    Thanks

    In the Channel9 video, the statement is made that the  built in Rebuild Indexes "maintenance task does not always work and that it is kind of broken, but it works sometimes and not always." Can anyone provide further
    details regarding the state of the Rebuild Indexes
    maintenance task? Why does it only sometimes work? Should it be used at all? Has it been fixed with a CU since the video came out? Are there plans to fix it?
    I need to defrag my database, and  I am trying to determine the best approach.
    Thanks!

  • Failed to resume task sequence / ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 vs. R2

    We have two configMgr environment at customers place.  A Lab Environment and production Environment. Till July 2014 both environment were at the same Version level (ConfigMgr 2012 SP1).
    We create the WIM-Image in LAB to use this WIM in the production. There were no problems till yet. Some months before we updated our
    LAB to ConfigMgr 2012 R2 CU2. The Production is still
    ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 CU3. Now if we create a new image in our LAB we can't use this Image in Production.
    OSD ends after 'Setup Windows and ConfigMgr' step. There is an error:
    Can't we use an captured Image from a ConfigMgr 2012 R2 environment in a ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 environment?

    I am not 100% if this is really supported (even if the versions were equal). I've seen situations where you can still see references to the MP and sitecode of the test environment when having a close look at the logs (although it did not cause real issues).

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Branch Cache - Distributed Cache mode

       Hello to all, I understood the process to enabled Branch Cache - Distributed Cache mode in source server and how to enable clients to use it. Fine. I saw a text that states "
    BranchCache management is integrated in the Configuration Manager console. For applications, you can configure BranchCache on a deployment type. For programs and software updates, you can configure the BranchCache settings on the deployment.
      Does it mean that I also need to configure Branch Chache individually for applications, programs and updates so they can take advantage of it? If positive, how to do this "specific" configuration?
       Regards, EEOC.

    The BranchCache option is checked by default, so you would only need to disable it for any deployments where you didn't want this functionality.
    You can't enable BranchCache for Task Sequences though - but we have a script for that :-)

    the first purpose, I built SCCM 2012 to update Definitions for System center Endpoint Protection 2012 through Software update Point. It 's still working normally
    And now, I need to do more tasks with SCCM 2012. I need to deploy some specify offline MS update which locate in Server through SCCM.

    Our environment uses all static ip address , the same task as mentioned earlier has worked fine with Different brands of HP elite 8200/8100 , infact the elite 8200 also uses the same NIC card

    Awating response,
    Hasan Reza

    Well Finally I sorted my issue ,
    Just want to share the solution, may be it would be helpful to some one else and save some times
    The problem was that the Xp images has lot of hidden NIC installed , this would not allow the system to work with the correct NIC card and Ip address (System -> View Hidden Devices) , what I did 2 things
    1) Copied the OSD Script folder from the SCCM Server to the Client pc and ran that ztigather.wsf and captured the output , it was evident that it showed capturing multiple adapters , (There are some blogs that pointed out that OSD can capture only one nic
    due to the only one Adapter0 section being defined in the ZTIgather.xml file,)
    2) I open the registry at the xp pc navigated to HKLM-> System ->Current Control Set-> Services-> TCPIP -> Parameters-> Interfaces ->
    Expect for the NIC card that had the Ip address assigned I deleted all other nic card's guid,
    As then post running deleting the old scanstate (USMTUTIL /rd c:\statestore) , reran the task and VOILA..
    All worked fine , below are the two post I followed , though notvery relevant but they were helpful and help me reached the conclusion.
    Thanks,
    Hasan Reza.

  • Deploying the SCCM 2012 Client to WES 7 devices that are locked down with the FBWF using 2007 task sequence via WEDM.

    I'm wondering how people are migrating their embedded devices that are using the FBWF. I've done some googling and it seems like most people are just re-imaging the devices and after migrating a single device i see why. Its not a pretty process. This will
    be a long description but ultimately my question stems more from trying to find a better way to execute the device migration from 2007 to 2012.
    Some back ground on my situation might be in order here. I'm in the process of wrapping up our 2007 to 2012 migration. We have a 2007 infrastructure that was a central server with 2 primaries and 286 secondary site servers. I've consolidated that to a single
    2012 primary site server that hosts all the main roles. There are 2 more servers in the data centers both operating solely as push distribution points I'll refer to them as 2012 01 02 and 03. I'm over half way through the migration and so far haven't needed
    to offload any site roles. There are almost 10,000 clients now reporting to the 2012 site server and almost a 100 field servers pulling content from 2012 02 as their source dp as pull dp is the only way forward for this many devices. I've read the horror stories
    of trying spin up 200 plus push dps. We are running PKI. I'm at the point now where i need to start migrating the Windows Embedded Seven Standard clients that have the 2007 sccm client on them with WEDM for write filter handling.
    What i'm wondering is if anyone has any pointers for me regarding migrating the WES 7 devices. My plan that i've come up with is to somehow script the process using a 2007 WEDM Task Sequence to try and migrate them over to 2012. Things are complicated as
    I need to somehow script the install, the policy checkin, hardware inventory, software inventory, and validate the SCEP client installs before I reboot the device one last time to enable the FBWF. How I handled the SCCM 2007 client install on these devices
    when they were provisioned was to just create a batch file that would sleep for ten minutes then check to see if the inventoryagent.log file had been created yet. I realize now that is inefficient as i can kick off the inventory using a WMI method once the
    client has installed. Also I need to make sure the machine gets its first policy as that is how it creates the communication using PKI through that first policy transfer and that also finalizes the client install. The biggest piece i'm uncertain about in this
    regard is the SCEP client.
    I had to change the SCEP client install from yes to no in the default client settings as we have some Mcaffee servers that can't have the SCEP client on them. I have incremental updates enabled on the collection that has the policy that installs the SCEP
    client but this will take an unknown amount of time unless i force the environment to update as the device starts in 2012 install, or if I could kick off the SCEP isntall... IDK. I'm also wondering if i should keep the device in the migration process until
    i validate it has its proper scep policy applied which I believe can be validated by a registry key somewhere.
    Once the 2012 client gets installed will that cause it to lose its place within the 2007 Task Sequence? Considering its going to take a minimum of 2 reboots I'd normally use the task sequence to handle its progression through the process.
    I'm also considering trying to use an Orchestrator runbook, as that would be a good way to keep track of the migration process as each device migrates. Especially since this might take several seperate scripts.
    I'm going to take a stab at scripting the migration process, but if anyone has any pointers that might make this a less complicated I'd really appreciate it as I've got about 3000 of these devices that need to be migrated over. The other things i've learned
    the hard way is any time you have something this complicated over the course of 3000 devices you will run into unknowns and the failure rate increases. I'm in the precarious position of having to not only build this process out but in some situations have
    it complete in the shortest amount of time possible as we have sites running 24x7. I know the end users behavior all to well and they will just keep hitting the power button sometimes even though their not supposed to so they can get their device functional
    again. In those situations i'd end up, if i'm lucky with a device that no longer has a healthy SCCM client in either environment and the write filter disabled.
    So like i said any pointers anyone could throw my way i'd really appreciate. I manually went through the migration process on a single device for proof of concept and ended up with almost 2 pages of pseudo code for my migration script/scripts.
    Thanks,
    -K.R.

    Hi,
    In R2 there are some new variables you can use to solve this,
    http://ccmexec.com/2014/12/smstsmplistrequesttimeout-value-in-milliseconds/
    In Sp1 though adding a step to sleep for 2-5 minuter after reboot and before the application install step is a common workaround.. a powershell command with "Start-Sleep
    -s 120" should do it.

  • Can I set a priority in SCCM 2012 for advertisements or any other ideas to fix my Task sequences?

    I have several task sequences that I deploy to lab computers that we re-image 1 or 2 times a year.  The task sequences run and install specific software
    for that lab after the base image deploys.
    The base image is deployed using WDS without SCCM in the mix.  It is a setup they we are using because of legacy business processes that just make this easier.
     Then after the machine boots up and gets its SCCM policies the task sequences start running to deploy the software.
    The issue I am noticing is that I have no control over what runs first and sometimes Windows Updates that are deployed via SCCM run before or in between the task
    sequences that I have running.  Some installs fail because of the pending Windows Update reboot, which I believe I have gotten around just by checking for it and rebooting before it installs the software.  The issue is that the Windows update could
    and usually is one of those lovely updates that requires multiple reboots.  The second reboot is killing my task sequence.
    The issue is I need to somehow force this updates to run after my task sequences or make sure they run first.  The only way I can think of this is by having
    priorities for the task sequences.  I can't just add installing the updates to the task sequence, because the second reboot will kill my whole task sequence there too.
    Anyone have any ideas on how to get around this issue?  I want the machines to install the Windows updates so I can't just remove them from the collection.

    That's definitely the best option to do everything via the task sequence deployment.
    Also, there are script available in the community to add or remove a device from a collection, see for example:
    http://sccmfaq.wordpress.com/2013/05/20/sccm-2012-sp1-remove-client-from-collection-after-osd/
    Keep in mind that if you want to use a script like that during the task sequence that the device running the task sequence (and by that the script) requires specific rights within ConfigMgr.

  • UDI OSD Task Sequences started failing with 0x80070002 error in SCCM 2012

    This is kind of long, but here goes...
    We built a UDI task sequence in SCCM 2012 (with MDT integration) that we were testing for deployment of a couple of different Win7 images.  We customized the UDI experience thru the UDI wizard and XML file and OS deployment worked as expected
    thru the task sequence (testing on Hyper-V VMs). Recently, this UDI TS started failing with error 0x80070002  during what appears to be the "Use Toolkit Package" step.  This is after the OS image has already been laid down and after the ConfigMgr
    client has been installed/configured.  The SMSTS.log reports "Failed to open the task sequence key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SMS\Task Sequence.  Error code 0x8007002"  Among other errors...I will post the entire log below...
    After the error during deployment, Win7 will boot normally, however, you have no network connectivity and it appears the proper network driver didn't get loaded in the OS. Combine this with the fact that the TS should have joined the machine to our domain,
    but you can't login because no network.. Im not sure if the network issue is a product of the TS failing early or the actual cause of the TS failure.
    Anyway, I attempted to build another UDI task sequence using the same boot image and toolkit/settings packages, but am experiencing the same error during deployment.  We have a few OSD task sequences built without UDI and those all still work just fine.
    So, I am at a loss for where the root problem lies.  Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Here is the entire SMSTS.log and BDD.log...

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 and MDT 2012 Task Sequence Templates, MDT File/Settings Packages

    We're setting up SCCM 2012 integrated with MDT 2012 for our OSD. My main issue is finding actual reference material for the MDT task sequence templates when integrated with SCCM. The MDT documentation has a lot of information on variables and task sequences
    outside of SCCM integration.
    One thing I'd love to find information on is what's actually going on during an MDT Client Task Sequence template. I found this http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/645a77b2-5be6-431d-818c-57d24b1435cc/understanding-mdt-task-sequence?forum=configmgrosd but
    it doesn't delve into the kind of detail I'm looking for. I can dig up information through the MDT reference material on some things, but I just can't find anything out there that actually walks you through an SCCM/MDT task sequence template. For instance,
    under State Restore what is being referenced in Install Software with base variable name PACKAGES, vs Install Applications and base variable name COALESCED APPS. And, where are you supposed to put these applications? That's just a specific example, I'm hoping
    to find some kind of walkthrough.
    Two things I'm hazy on are the MDT packages. What exactly are the MDT Settings Package, and the MDT Files Package? What are they used for? What benefits do you get out of using them? And, how exactly do you use them? I know one of them has something to do
    with customsettings.ini, but what's the point of using SCCM with MDT if you still have to muck around in the customsettings.ini file?
    Either way, it seems like there are a lot of references to SCCM task sequences, and a lot of references to MDT task sequences. But, not together. Which is a bit annoying since the MDT-integrated task sequence templates are very obviously different than either
    SCCM or MDT by itself. Any help would be appreciated, even just information on where to look. Maybe I'm just really bad at finding reference material for SCCM/MDT. Thanks.

    When MDT integrated with SCCM, We need the following MDT components to be created:
    MDT Boot image
    MDT Toolkit Files
    MDT Settings
    The MDT boot image (for example) gives you extra abilities over the standard ConfigMgr boot image such as the ability to display a HTA Refer here:
    http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/forum/98-frontends-and-web-services/
    MDT Files once created, you will find UDIWizard_Config.Xml file in which you can start User driven Installation OSD using UDI designer.

    Thanks for the quick reply. But, what about the MDT Settings Package? Also, both have a pretty big folder structure for each package. Surely it does more than just provide a couple xml and ini files? I'm not looking for anyone to spoon-feed me the information,
    but at least a pointer in the right direction for finding the reference material. It seems for SCCM/MDT integration you have to go all over the place finding scraps of information to put together.
    Also, any info on the SCCM/MDT task sequence templates? Thanks.
