Music On iPod - Artist Not Showing Up On List

I have a few Gentle Giant albums, but they don't appear on the Artist list. The iPod is perfectly synced to iTunes, and the music is there (the songs appear on the Songs list), but when I go to Artists they don't appear. I have an iMac G5 if it matters.

It could be that you have inadvertently imported these CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation. If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a multiple song info window, and from there you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not.

Wow, don't see their name mentioned here too many times!!

  • Music on ipod touch not showing in itunes account

some music on my ipod touch does not show in itunes. My computer has been backed up and do not know how to get old items back on itunes

    Have you looked here:

  • Ipod will not show any of listed podcasts

My itunes is the latest software version and updates all music automatically and have no problems there. I have chosen 3 podcast series to update and then synchronise over to my ipod but when I plug it in to the pc - it updates but doesn't show any podcasts as I have downloaded in itunes. I have tried removing all podcasts and downloading again, changing the settings between manual and automatic, disconnecting and restarting itunes, restarting the pc, plugging in the ipod first, then disconnecting, updating the podcasts, then reconnecting.
Everything I try - and the podcast directory does not show in the source list under my ipod and no matter how I update my ipod in itunes - it comes back as successful.
    Any ideas please?

Many thanks for your reply = I have tried all 3
settings under my ipod preferences for podcasts -
whether I try automatically or manually updating - it
comes up as 'successful' yet none of the podcasts
(selected if manual) appear on my ipod source list.
It used to work previously until I changed my itunes
over to a new computer and pointed my ipod to
synchronise to this new one. It managed to delete
all of my existing podcasts and won't add any new
    ones.
This sounds like an authorization problem. Why not try the following: "purchase" a free download from the iTunes Music Store by downloading the free Single of the Week. Auto-sync that onto your iPod. You may be prompted to authorise your iPod in order to play that song. After that, try sync'ing and playing the podcasts.
It's recommended that you use the "Deauthorize Computer" setting under the Advanced menu of iTunes if you know that you're going to "retire" a computer from use with an iPod, since you can only have copies of DRM'd music feeding your iPod from 5 authorized computers. However, since iTunes will now prompt you to deauthorize one of your machines (and let you choose which one) once you try to sync to a 6th iTunes with DRM content, no harm is done.
    Hope this works for you.

  • Some artists not showing up on list of artists on iPod

The albums show up and play OK, but when I look for the artist in the artist list they are not there.
Should I empty my iPod and reload everything onto it?

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is incorrectly marked as part of a compilation (and you have Compilations enabled on the iPod) or 2) the song has no album name associated with it.
if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. If you are using iTunes 8, in the the multiple items info box the compilations setting is in the "Options" tab. Setting "Compilations" on your iPod main menu prevents you getting lots of single artist entries when you load an album by various artists.
Also if the tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances (for instance I read somewhere that if you have at least two tracks with different album names the rest will appear), however the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod

  • Artists not showing in the list

Hi, I have a iPod classic 80 Go, and when I look into my artists list, some are missing. I have the correct tags in iTune, everything seems okay when I import the songs but the artists won't show up. I can still listen to the album when I go into the Song list and the tags are showing okay when I play these songs. Anyone have an idea?

You should also check that the songs have album name info in their ID tags.
See: Some songs don't show under artist on my iPod.
Once you add a second album name for that artist even for a single song, ALL the rest of the songs should now show up under that artist, even those without album names.
Providing the spelling for the artists is exactly the same of course.

  • My Ipod does not show in source list in itunes

I have recently downloaded itunes 7.7 (previously using 7.1) - my ipod is no longer showing in the source list in itunes although I get the usual clunk clunk sound when I attach it to the PC.
I have tried to re-set unattached from the PC and attached to the PC to no avail.
The only thing that I can think to do is to uninstall the ipod software and itunes and re-install both - but I will have to get some CDs first as I have a lot of tunes in the itune library which will be lost if I delete itunes.
Can anyone suggest anything else which may help please??
    Thanks.

I am having a similar problem. I have done the "5 R's" and even had my iPod replaced with a new one by apple (suspecting they couldn't solve the problem). But even now, with a completely new iPod, Windows (Vista) recognizes the iPod (as it did previously), but iTunes does not. The iPod displays that it is connected, but does not appear in the iTunes source list! Then, as soon as I disconnect the iPod (as there's no other way) then suddenly it appears and several error messages come up saying: "Jarad's iPod cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found." !!! This is so fustrating!!!! Is there anyone out there who can help?

Then you're doing something wrong.  Are you signed in with the same Apple ID on the computer that the content was purchased with?
Did you check the purchase history?

  • My iPod is not showing any of my music in its library.

My iPod is not showing any of my music in its library. I can only listen to and see my music when the iPod is plugged into the computer. Even when its plugged in my Ipod says there is no music in the library but iTunes says its all on there. Any suggestions on what the problem may be?

    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try unsyncing all the music and resyncing.

You can find the Home button at the far right end of the Navigation Toolbar.
Firefox 4 uses a combined Stop/Reload/Go button that is positioned at the right end side of the location bar.<br />
During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button.<br />
If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button.<br />
You can middle-click that Reload button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab.
To move the Stop and Reload buttons to their position to the left of the location bar you can use these steps:
    * Open the "View > Toolbars > Customize" window to move the Stop and Reload button out of the location bar.
    * Drag the Reload and Stop buttons to their previous position to the left of the location bar.
    * Set the order to "Reload - Stop" to get a combined "Reload/Stop" button.
    * Set the order to "Stop - Reload" or separate them otherwise to get two distinct buttons.
Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize"

  • My iPod will not show up on my iTunes following the newest update, yet says its up to date on software?

Recently my iTunes has updated to the latest version on my PC (a Windows 7), and although ios7 is recommended, my iPod tells me that it is up to date with the 6.1.6 it is currently running. It does not show ios7 to download at all, merely says it is up to date on its software. When I try and plug the iPod in to my PC with a USB cable to sync new music to it, it doesn't even register as being there at all. No device option is in the drop-down file box nor does it show next to the music, video and etc icons. I tried restoring my iPod to the cloud and that worked just fine, tried restarting both devices and replugging in the USB, but nothing seems to be working. No matter what I've tried from the FAQ, my iPod is not showing up or registering to sync. It worked perfectly fine before iTunes updated and any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

The 4G can only go to 6.1.6. It hardware does not support a higher version

  • Itunes freezes when connecting and ipod does not show up

When I connect my nano 3rd gen in windows vista using itunes 9 my ipod does not show up and itunes freezes. the ipod remains with the connected screen and I cannot close out of itunes. Any help would be wonderful... Thanks!!

I have (finally)solved the problem with my iTunes freezing! Here's what I did:
1.I backed up my entire music library to an external hard drive.
2.Then I completely uninstalled iTunes 9 from my computer.
3.After a re-boot I then completely deleted my entire music library. (this can be a little scary so I double checked my music library back up on the external drive)
4.I Googled iTunes 8 and found it at
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/06/28/apple-itunes-8-2-and-quicktime-7-6-2-di rect-download-links/
    5. I downloaded it but before I installed it I copied my music library back to my computer. I did not copy everything that was in my original iTunes music folder however, I only copied the music, album art work, applications, games,Tv shoes, and podcasts folders. I placed those folders in a new folder called iTunes on my computer. I did not include any of the iTunes database files eg: .itl / .xml / or .itdb files as these were created in iTunes 9.
    6. Now I opened iTunes 8.2 and added all of my music and other media content.
    7. Next I attached my iPod nano to my computer. Then Windows automaticly open a window asking me if I wanted to scan for problems or continue without scanning. I had windows scan for problems and once that was done my iPod nano began to sync. Oh what joy!
I think, and this is only a guess based on what I've read here on Apple's discussion pages and my own experience, that there is a problem/conflict or bug with iTunes 9, Windows Vista and the 3rd -4th generation iPod. I will NOT be upgrading to iTunes 9 until Apple has addressed this issue. It seems to me that there are a lot of people having similar issues.

  • On an iPod Nano 2G, the iPod will not show in iTunes

Using an iPod Nano 2 G, when I plug it into a Mac, the iPod will not show in iTunes. The iPod will charge, but will not sync. This happens across multiple Mac's, so the issue seems to be the Nano, not the computer(s). The iPod will actually show for about 2 seconds in the left sidebar, then it disappears. Any suggestions about how to either fix this, or maybe how to restore the iPod's software. The iPod otherwise seems to be working correctly, i.e. will play music, etc. we have tried switching ports, cables and computers, same results.

    Did you do everything here:

    Hello johnohuk,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like most of your music was purchased from the iTunes Store. If your country supports iTunes in the Cloud, you can download your past purchases using this article:
