Music on iWeb pages

Is there anyway to download music onto my web page that doesn't require that the user wait until the whole thing loads to listen? I have friends who have websites that are able to put any number of songs on a page with a one-line link that immediately loads, and then when you click on the link it starts streaming immediately. I can't seem to do this with iWeb. I'm assuming perhaps that Quicktime Pro has a way of doing this, but I haven't figured it out yet.

Although that site doesn't appear to use QuickTime Media Link (.qtl file) it may be useful ~ see about half-way down this old thread:
Here's a +"high-quality audio player provided by Google for use on your website. (...) This sure beats using Quicktime!"+:

...and there's more choices here:

Here are a couple of sites which enable you to create your own music widget:

  • Help putting music on iWeb page

Just a few minutes ago, I made a iWeb page on my Intel-based iMac. I had everything set, including pictures, but I wanted a song for the page. I chose Disturbia by Rihanna. I downloaded it from iTunes. So I click media, and go to audio, and click Disturbia. I drag it onto the page, and it has a little box that says "Drag Image Here" it also have a sort of YouTubish bar with a play button, pause, and all that. I click play, and my song plays. I get a picture, drag it in the box, and hit publish. When I visit my website, all that comes up is the picture, no audio. What should I do?

    Micahel:
Question #1: In the Media pane where you select audio and then see all the tracks in your iTunes library, select a track and drag onto the page where you want it. You can then add a photo to the area, i.e. like the album cover, or just leave it as it is an in the published page all you'll see is the controller with the play/hold button, etc.
Question #2: You have to add the Hit Counter by going to the Insert->Button menu and selecting Hit Counter.

  • Looking for 'music player' widget to play songs dragged onto iWeb page

Has anyone found a 'music player' widget that can be embedded into an iWeb page, and that can then load and play the songs that have been dragged onto that page?
I have found several such widgets that can scan a URL for mp3 files, and I have successfully embedded each of those widgets into an iWeb page using the HTML Snippet, but none of them could find the mp3 files that I dragged onto the page, even though I supplied the widget with the URL for that page.

Wyodor, I just wanted to let you know that I am having a lot of fun with the WimpyPlayer, and I like the skin you sent me. Thank you so much.
I've been playing around with it. I had to reduce the height of the widget to fit on my webpage, but when I did, the text became too small to read, so instead, I went into the skin's jpeg and cut out the midsection of the playlist area. Then I had to readjust the playlist's number of lines displayed and its slider size to fit. I also changed the color scheme to match my webpage, and some of the Help tags. All in all, it looks great, and I am very happy with it.
The one feature I miss from when I was using iWeb's built-in QuickTime player is the ability to have a photo (such as an album cover) displayed with the music. Do you happen to know of any music players that enable you to attach a photo with each track or album?

  • Can you make a playing iWeb page ?

I made a nice set of two iWeb pages as Xmas greeting & annual letter (web.mac.com/vivekawn). But I would have been more satisfied if the home page could have opened with Winter Wonderland (it is a favorite). Trying to do this has, so far, given me a way to do it as I don't want it as link to start but the music opening automatically as the page unpacks itself.
Have anyone of you done and if so, how did you do it ?

As long as you don't mind doing a little post publish editing of your .js files, it's fairly easy to do in this manner also. You will find them in this path on your iDisk, using the Go menu in Finder:
    Go/iDisk/MyiDisk/Sites/iWeb/Nameofsitefolder/Page_filesFolder/Page.js
Open the .js files for that particular page on your iDisk with any text editor (I like Taco, and it's free) and make the following changes to the script code that controls your movie: (you will find the movie code near the top of the page in the .js file)
    Change autoplay="false" to autoplay="true"
    Change loop="false" to loop="true"
Changing controller value="true" to controller value="false" will remove the controller from the page entirely. Make these changes in both sets of tags, (object and embed).
Make the changes and just "Save". Clear your browser cache and you should see the changes take effect immediately. Bear in mind you will have to make this modification each time you republish your site. You can also save this modified .js file and replace the republished file with it, as long as no other changes were made to the page in iWeb.

  • WEB WIDGET - HTML SNIPPET  how to post myspace music in iWeb

i'm making a site for a band. i'm using the *web widget- html snippet* to insert the myspace player from a band. the bands site is http://www.myspace.com/mod39lone.
this is the code i'm putting in :
    <embed src="http://lads.myspace.com/music/musicplayer.swf?n=aHR0cDovL211c2ljLm15c3BhY2 UuY29t&t=wz7NYVvdN1sD5sZn5jwqhteIJEBAWtU7cGxSvblOZr59VYuvhFOEuaUs29mG1lCNKsOUiB4 00Vl6iAOogScxHQ==&u=LTE=&a=0&d=MTc4MzA0MTgxXjExODc3NDE1MjU=" quality=high bgcolor=#FFFFFF width="450" height="345" name="mp3player" align=""type="application/x-shockwave-flash" FlashVars="culture=nl-NL"pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplay er"> </embed>
when i'm editing iWeb, the player shows up and plays the music and everything is fine! but when i publish the site, it says "Movie not loaded" when you click on it.
the site i'm currently working on is still being worked on, but i made an extra page to show whoever could help me. the link is:
    http://web.me.com/henreegee/IamTokyo/Blank.html

That method can be done using iFrame code in an HTML snippet. You need to upload the Family Matters - Computer.m4v file to your server and link to it there via an HTML snippet and iFrame code. An example is in this demo page along with the code: QT movies via iFrame.
There are other ways to add the movie (the full one Family Matters - Computer.m4v.
One is to upload the file to your server and linking to it as shown in this demo page: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window.
The method you posted is explained in this tutorial: Old Toad's Tutorial #18 - Adding Movie/Video File to iWeb Page via Export for Web in Quicktime Player. To see the edits click on the buttons in steps 5a and 5b.

  • Is there a way to open an iWeb page in 'new' window?

I'm trying to show a client how to run iWeb so he can tweak his own site on the road. He doesn't know html. I don't want to have to write out a complicated list of instructions for him.
Is there a way IN iWeb to have an iWeb page open as a 'new' window?
He's a songwriter ... wants visitors to be able to open a song and have it play while they continue to browse his site.
    thanks
    b

    Ben:
When you create a text link to an file you can set it to open in another window by setting it up as an external page checking the appropriate checkbox in the Inspector/Link pane. . You would have to upload the file to the Music folder on the iDisk beforehand and then use the following URL:
    http://homepage.mac.com/youraccount_name/.Music/FileName
Note the dot before Music in the URL. Don't forget it. See the link titled *"This sentence is linked to a jpg file."* in this demo page. It's linked to a photo but the principle is the same.

I figured it out. Home sharing was not activated on the iMac, even though I could see both computers on each computer. I tried to transfer all my music from the iMac to my MacBook Pro before I wiped everything off the iMac, but couldn't figure it out. I with I knew that before I reformatted it. I do, however, however, have everything backed up on disks. iTunes is one of the most confusing programs I've ever used...

  • Slideshows with Music in iWeb

How can I create a simple slideshow (perhaps with dissolve transitions) with music using iWeb '09 and MobileMe? The standard iWeb slideshow does not seem to have a music option. Are there good options for doing this?

I tried creating a slideshow in Keynote '09 and exported to Quicktime. I noticed two problems.
    1. When I double click on the exported video file, only the audio starts playing and the screen is blank. I have to actually click inside the movie frame to get the video version of the slideshow to start.
    2. There is no video controller, so the user has no way of pausing the video. Is there any way to get the controller to appear.

  • Putting music on Iweb, also where is the counter on my homepage like Imovie

two questions for the wizards..... how do you put music into your Iweb page. I DO see the audio tab (similar to Imovie), I picked the music.... no what (short of putting some ugly tab on the picture page.
2nd questions...... where is the counter on my homepage to keep track of views. I could do it when I published Imovies to the web.... but there is no edit button for the Iweb pages.
    thanks is advance

  • How can I export iDVD into iWeb Page?

I made a short DVD by sending iPhoto pictures to iDVD. Everything works fine: music, captions etc., but I cannot get it into my iWeb page. Is there any way now to export it to iMovie so iWeb can take it?
    Frank

    Frank:
You need to export the slideshow from iPhoto to a Quicktime movie and then add that movie to iWeb. Did you export just the photos and add the music, captions, etc there?
There are a couple of ways to add a movie to iWeb and avoid having the movie load while the page is loading: 1 - QT movies; 2 - Opening Movie in New, Specially Sized Window.
The key is toexport out of iPhoto as a QT movie.

  • How to Change iWeb page themes after the page has already created?

Once you have created a page with a theme and saved it, and then later you want to change it to another theme... How does one change theme without recreating the page?
Also, How does one add background music to a page once it is opened?
    Thanks!
    T.

I too am wondering about your first question, but I have found a workaround for your second question.
First save the audio clip as a mov file in quicktime, then place it somewhere on the page. Make it small and out of the way and hide ot from site.
Now publish the site. Then you will have to change the HTML. Open text edit and select "Ignore Rich Text Commands". Open the iDisk icon on the left and find the Web folder then follow this string Web/Sites/iWeb/<Your Site Name>/<then the page name folder, example: "Home_files">/then "Home.js"
Once opened find the quicktime file use the find feature it will list the properties twice, the second listings are the ones you want to change. Change controller="true" to controller="false". Then autoplay="false" to autoplay="true" and loop="false" to loop="true".
If you change that specific page and republish you will have to do this again, but only if you change that page. You will not if you rebublish and you had made no changes to that specific page.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adding audio to an iweb page

Can anyone help me by telling me how to add audio to an iweb page? I've got audio files, recordings on my computer and want to be able to publish them so others can listen.
    Thanks for your help!

There are other ways to add audio to a web page. There are jukeboxes where you can list multiple tracks for playing. This demo page has some examples of flash audio players: Audio Players. Other audio options are here: More Audio.
For jukeboxes see this page in Roddy's iWeb for Musicians site: Music Players.

  • Iweb pages not easily viewed by windows Explorer users. FF&NN more better.

My work colleagues, who are all on windows computers defaulted to use internet explorer, can't load my iweb pages.
The music halts, the pages stutter and stagger and it takes forever to load. and then one can not scroll... The problem seems to disappear when i have people download firefox and netscape navigator and call up the site with those browsers. But some folks don't want to take the time to do that. Default Internet Explorer should work with iweb-built pages. Is there a fix?
Also, on my mac.com page, the number of hits is no longer reflected. I recently upgraded to iweb (ilife) 08, (from earlier version that came with the Macpro when i bought it in july)Before the upgrade, I could always see the pages and how many hits all in one place! i have rebuilt the pages and added other pages in the new iweb 08, but still can't see the hits. do you have a fix, does anyone have a fix?

There's been a lot of stuff written in this forum about Internet Explorer. A quick search will keep you reading for hours!
A lot of the problems disappear if the user has the latest version of IE and QuickTime Player installed.
Also they have to have Java Script enabled.
One good idea I saw on a website was an announcement that "this website is best viewed in Firefox" with the Firefox download logo beside it. Get it here...
    http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates/homepage
Try to educate the we surfers one at a time!
I would post your hit counter issue as a separate topic since a lot of people will not bother reading about IE as so much has already been said.
I am answering this because your topic was getting ignored and the hit counter issue may get a better response if you try again.

  • MP3 "jukebox" with playlist on iWeb page?

Well, i know you can drag and drop one track to play in the background on your iWeb pages, but i have a "Lounge" section with widget games and want to create a nice atmosphere with a nice jukebox MP3 player on the page where visitors can scroll through 4-7 tracks perhaps.
Is this possible somehow? Can't find any good widgets that do that. Appreciate any help, thanks
Also, on a sidenote, am i the only one having trouble with getting errors when i try to leave those "helpful" and "solved" awards?
    I get this error message:

  • Display data from CSV file in iWeb page

    Hi,
I like to display data from a CSV file in iWeb page if a date value from CSV file matches todays value from the system. Here is an example.
    CSV data values
    01/20/2011,Sunny,87
    01/21/2011,Cloudy,100
    01/22/2011,Rainy,60
If today's date value is 01/21/2011 the page should display 01/21/2011 Cloudy 100 in a tabular format.
Appreciate your help in providing HTML code for this issue.
    Thanks

I suspect there is a soft return in the excel database somewhere that can't be seen. Take the csv/txt file into notepad and look for a line that starts oddly compared to the others.
I haven't had luck removing soft returns from excel files so I do this a rather odd way. I take the excel file into InDesign as a table, and then use find/change to replace any soft returns with nothing, then convert the text to table and then export the text out again by going export, and selecting text from the dropdown menu.
For my money, I always save tab delimited text files from excel so that if a field does contain commas, it doesn't "trick" indesign into thinking a new field is beginning or not... instead the field delimiters are tabs and they are unlikely to have been used in the excel database.
If you do choose to use this indesign import method of mine to clean up the database, i also noticed two things in your screengrab: first was that some fields have spaces at the start of the text... easy enough to fix with a GREP that looks for ^\s (start of a sentence followed by a space) and replace with nothing. The second thing is the T&C field that all entries (at least in the screengrab) all start the same – if all entries in the database start the same, couldn't that line be in the indesign file? Its only a small detail I know.
