Music skipping, speeding up & voice control clicking on and off

I have had a problem the last few days when i am listening to music on my iPhone 4. songs that are playing are skipping to the next or previous tracks, cutting out completely or starting again. Also the voice control keeps clicking on & off. is anyone else experiencing these problems or has a solution on this. i am not sure if it is a software problem, hardware or even the headphones that are the problem. i shouldn't think it is hardward as there are no moving parts but as it has occcured when phone has been stationary or in my pocket while walking i am unsure of the cause. any help is greatly appreciated

I finally figured out what is going on with my ipod skipping tracks. I thought about how everyone was saying that their ipod would start malfunctioning after about 20 minutes if they were either at the gym or jogging. The common denominator between these two activities is sweat. Sweat is the culprit! You're probably using an ipod with earphones that have a microphone on them. You'll notice that if you're on a tradmill or jogging, the microphone is right next to your face. As you work out more, you sweat more, and as the mocrphone brushes your face or next, sweat is tranferred to it. After about 20 minutes of exposure, the microphone starts to malfunction and the ipod starts skipping and the voice command comes up. You'll notice that after an hour or so after your workout, the microphone has time to dry out and the ipod goes bak to normal. To solve the problem, find a way to cover the microphone while you work out OR used a pair of headphones that doesn't have a microphone. Hope that helps!

  • My iphone misbehaves when I play music.  It starts and stops, skips to the next or previous song, voice control pops on and off.  Usually this starts about 1/2 hour into playing music.  I just replaced phone thinking it was hardware related but it persist

    I recently replaced my iphone thinking this would fix the problem but it still occurs.  I use EXACTLY the same playlists I use on my ipod and the skipping, misbehaving only occurs on my iphone, never on my ipod.  With the new phone I am running OS6.
    Any suggestions?

    I’ve read reports from many other iTunes users who are having the same issue I am.  Please read on...
    When listening to songs that I purchased from iTunes (as opposed to those I imported from CD), several, but not all, of them stop playing prematurely several seconds (or even minutes) before the end of the tune.  Playback jumps immediately to the beginning of the next tune.
    I noticed this, I believe, shortly after moving my iTunes library to a new iMac (3.1 GHz Intel Core i5, 12 GB memory) running iTunes 10.5.3 (3) on Mac OS 10.7.3.  Everything was fine before the move.
    Of the 283 purchased songs in my iTunes library, about 100 of them exhibit this behavior.  The song playback times at which this happens range from 2:14 to 5:19.
    What is interesting, is that tunes from the same album all end at the same playback time!  For example, I purchased the whole album “River - The Joni Letters” (Herbie Hancock’s album covering a number of Joni Mitchell tunes).  Every song from that album now stops playing at 3:39.  The same happens with other tunes that happen to be from the same album, too.  I have no idea why this would be the case, but it certainly seems significant.
    Another interesting finding, is that if I copy one of tunes exhibiting this issue to the desktop and play it from there, the song plays all the way through to the end without a problem.  This would, I think, rule out a corrupt file and tend to point to iTunes itself as the source of the problem.
    The problem certainly is annoying, and it would be great if we could find some resolution and get back to enjoying our music without the mind-jarring bump that too often now happens without warning.
    Sincerely,
    Michael Loomis

  • Old Geezer needs HELP.  clicking on and off and on and off

    I have an ipod classic 80. It keeps clicking on and off and on and off. The little apple logo pops up on the screen when it comes on but then it shuts off again. I hear a faint "clicking" noise when it powers off. I tried pushing menu and select buttons and nothing happens. I'm old, aggravated, and sad. Please help the elderly !

    I sent the following to someone else a few minutes ago. It may help you also:
    Plug the iPod into your computer. Go to iTunes. Click on the iPod icon in the sidebar of iTunes. Click on the Summary tab. Click on the restore button. This will delete everything from your iPod, so you will have to re-sync all movies, music, pictures, contacts and anything else you have on it. If you are using the disk-mode option, it will wipe all this data too, so be sure to back these files up before you embark on the restore procedure. This is all assuming that the iPod will mount and the clicking noise isn't what I think it may be; A failed hard drive.
    If none of this works, and the hard drive has failed rather than the iPod just needing to be restored then it is almost certainly still under warranty (the 80gb Classic has only been around since last September so I think you qualify for repair).
    And you can always work your way through the Apple hints at the following link:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
    If this doesn't resolve the problem, you should probably get in touch with Apple Support:
    http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
    Good luck

  • Apple icon clicking on and off?!?!?!?

    My nano froze and I was kindly pushed in the direction of restoring my nano on disk format...whcih I did and everything started working okay-ish! Then after going back to normal format the apple icon appeared and for a short while I had the normal screen, but the apple came back and has been clicking on and off ever since (I say clicking not flashing because I can actually hear the click when the icon goes off!!!)
    I am really stuck now...the battery is charged, I have reset...reset....reset....restored on disk format....and still it isn't working!!!!!
    Please someone help me!!!

    jack...sounds lik the click wheel is almost in a permanently pressed state and it's making the Nano re-set? If you haven't used your one free call to ttech support, I'd use it now....if there's a defect, Apple will fix it.

  • Clicking on and off

    Hello,
    I've had my iPod for about two months, and things have gone well so far, up until this. About a week ago I had a friend over who has an iPod (I have an iPod mini), her battery was dead, so she asked if she could plug in into my computer (using my connector) to charge it, I said no at first, as I had seen that it doesn't work or recognize another iPod if there are two- but she said that since she was just charging it, there'd be no problem.
    Well since then, when I connect my mini to the computer it will either click on and off (between saying 'Do not disconnect' and just being on the main menu screen). Many times when it's connected, my iTunes will not even notice that it's there.
    I was just wondering, is this because my friend connected hers to my computer? And if so, what can I do to fix it?
    By the way- I've tried the whole "hold down menu and the middle button for 6-10 seconds" thing...but it doesn't change anything.

    Ashley,
    It's unlikely that connecting your friend's iPod to your computer caused this. You can connect multiple iPods to one computer, so I'm not sure where you've seen that you can't.
    Try restoring your iPod to factory settings.

  • Flash CS5 bug - clicking on and off "allow smoothing" in bitmap properties dialog crashes Flash

    I had a situation where I was clicking on and off the allow smoothing checkbox in a bitmap properties dialog to observe the difference in appearance and that crashed Flash - Windows 7 Professional, Flash CS5 Professional 11.0.2.489, 8GB Ram - there seem to be a number of bugs like this because I've seen a number of cases in different places in Flash CS5 where doing something normal just crashes it.  Kind of annoying when you are in the middle of something and haven't been saving your work every 5 seconds.

    Hi,
    We have a problem with our action script and seems to be using cookies of clients computers.
    We have a action script as under ..........----------
    function my_function38()
        var _loc1 = my_xml.firstChild.childNodes;
        totalNodes = _loc1.length;
        cityname_mc.fl_name_mc.fl_name.text = my_xml.firstChild.childNodes[cnt].attributes.name;
        rate_mc.rate_anim_mc.fl_rate.text = my_xml.firstChild.childNodes[cnt].attributes.rate;
        fl_month.text = my_xml.firstChild.childNodes[cnt].attributes.month;
    // End of the function
    my_Date = new Date();
    my_xml = new XML();
    my_xml.load("DEL.xml?uniqueID=" + getTimer());
    my_xml.onLoad = my_function38;
    my_xml.ignoreWhite = 1;
    if (!cnt)
        var cnt = 0;
    } // end if
    ++cnt;
    if (cnt >= totalNodes)
        cnt = 0;
        gotoAndPlay(1);
    else
        gotoAndPlay(1);
      Xml Data as under
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding= "UTF-8" ?>
    <cities>
      <city name="Delhi" rate="£365" month=""file location"></city>
    </cities>
    What is happening is we are storing many swf files and xml files for different cities on server location 1 with same code but are just changing the xml file to be picked.
    I.e
    DELHI.XML    DELHI.SWF
    BANGKOK.XML  BANGKOK.SWF
    SYDNEY.XML SYDNEY.SWF
    All are in one folder and we are just changing the xml path in fla files and loading the new swf.
    Then we are giving out swf urls to an advertising company which is in turn picking up swf files from sever location 1 and displaying the same on their website.
    The problem is each time we access the swf file on there site the data doesnot display properly. It is picking up the wrong xml data. When we check the fla the path for xml is ok. What we think is it is saving swf or xml in cookies of user computer. Is there anyway to prevent it from happening.
    We Are using Adobe Flash CS5.

  • My brand new iPhone 5 has gone totally looney. Voice control won't come off, it won't reset. It is not functioning

    My iPhone 5 is brand new. We set the voice control function and now it won't allow metro disable. I can't get my password entered. It has sent the phone totally looney and it is totally dysfunctional. I don't know what to do

    Voice control? Why not enable Siri? She's much less annoying. But also, about the reset thing. My friend's iPod Touch had a password accidentally set on it and when I tried putting it in recovery mode to reset it, the process would always get canceled midway. I thought that iPod was as hopeless as your iPhone, but when I took it to an Apple retail store, they somehow did it all in two minutes when I waited hours at a time to reset it myself. The employee also said I would lose all of my data, but somehow I did not. Obviously none of this will be helpful if you do not live near a retail store, so I guess you can try recovery mode if you haven't already. You can look up how to do this online. Hope I have you at least one piece of useful advice here. Good luck!
     Thank you for choosing Apple.

  • Voice controling audio books and podcasts

    Hi Folks:
    As a Blind user of an iPhone 3GS, I am unable to extend voice control to audio books or podcasts. Am I doing something wrong or is this not available yet. If it is not available, can someone point me to where I can make this suggestion?
    Thanks all over the place gang.

    I too have run into this issue of voice control not recognizing my Podcast Playlist, hopefully it will be able to soon.

  • How do I prevent Iphone 6 voice control from activating

    I had the problem on my 4 but I thought it was just old.  Now, my Iphone 6 is 2 days old and it is doing the same thing!!!!!!
    The voice control activates on it's own for no reason and then impacts music play.  The songs are sped up and then skip around as voice control keeps cutting in.  I do not have shake to shuffle on and I do not have Siri active.  This seems to be a recurring problem since the 3.  Can Apple please address it, I am about to return my Iphone 6!!

    holy cow, I thought I was cursed until I read your question.  My iphone 4 was driving me crazy for its last month activating Voice Contol on its own.  I too thought it had just gotten old.  I've had my 6 plus for two days and the same thing is now happening!!   That inane blue screen and doorbell noise popping up.   I feel like throwing the phone at the wall.
    Seeing you have the same problem is a bit insightful because it suggests that it's not the phone but something else.  How else could both of us have identical problems at the same time with four phones?
    i am wondering if somehow we have a bugged backup that is causing the problem to propagate itself?   Sometimes my ipad 2 also has music playing issues but no voice control problems.  I.e., I can be listening to Pandora and suddenly the music pauses itself.
    Another problem I had on my iphone 4 at the end was that it would suddenly pause music as well.  Other times it would speed playback up as if I were holding the scrubbing key down.  Did you have anything similar?
    I wonder if backing the phone up with a version say two months or so ago is worth a shot?

  • Why does voice control keep coming on when i use my ipod

    When I'm using my ipod (on the iphone 3 GS), the music will play and then all of a sudden the voice control comes on and interupts the song. I can't get it it stop. I'll click to cancel but then a few seconds later it comes on again and again.  I'm using the headphones that came with the phone (white ones). Sometimes I put the phone in a case and strap it to my arm. Other times the phone will just be sitting on the excercise machine but the voice control keeps coming on even though the button isn't being pressed. Any ideas what to do??
    Thanks!

    This same thing is happening to my iPod Touch. Every 2 seconds, Voice control comes on, I am wondering if my iPod is Broken?
    Please Help.
    Thank You

  • IPhone 4s - Voice Control

    On the iPhone 4S how do you turn off voice controls?  My husband and I both have the iPhone 4s and his constantly turns on his voice controls and when we go through the settings on the phones (since mine doesn't do that) to try to find the difference he has something marked voice control by Siri and mine doesn't.  Any idea why and how do we turn off his voice control so he doesn't keep calling people by accident.  He has tried locking his phone with a code and it still does it.

    wendyohio_1 wrote:
    We have tried turning Siri completely off and that doesn't seem to help.  He carries his phone in his pocket so when he bends down, etc. he calls random people.
    Quickly press the power button to lock the iPhone. It cannot do anything unless you press and hold the Home button so I don't understand how it is doing anything unless he has small objects in his pocket pressing only on teh Home button when he neds over.

  • Voice control slow?

    To activate voice control, I push and hold the home button and it takes just about 4 seconds before it pops up.
    Is everyone elses like this? Why the heck make me wait 4 seconds?
    It's not like the home key is a multi-launch button where you hold it for 1 second, it launches app X, hold it for 2 seconds, it launches app Y, hold it for 3 seconds, it launches app Z, hold it for 4 seconds, it launches voice control.
    I'm just trying to see if it's just my device or everyone has to wait for 4 seconds while the phone does nothing. Stupid, it should be up in under a second.

    I asked a question if 4 seconds was normal, trying to find out if there was an issue with my phone.
    Your useless smart a$$ answer provides benefit to no one.
    Obviously you're the one who is not very smart as yes it is a mechanical switch, but that switch generates an interrupt to the software which is very smart and can do anything it wants.
    Someone programmed it to wait 4 seconds. A press would constitute something in the area of 250ms, anything longer could be considered a hold.
    I have written software for mobile devices for the past 10 years, and have used a press vs. hold vs. longer hold as an application launcher on many devices, so I was surprised that it took a hold of 4 seconds to get it to activate, and wanted to know if this was normal or an issue with mine phone.
    Can you just answer the question?

  • Finder Crashes on "Right-Click" or "Control-Click"

    I dont know if this is a PB or OS X problem. i'll probably post to both forums. on a brand-new PB 1.67 15" 2GB RAM - right-clicking in the finder windows, and only in the finder windows (other programs are fine) the Finder will crash and relaunch itself. this happens with a right-click mouse, control-click mouse and control-click with the trackpad. the only way around this is to use the "Gear" button on the top of the finder window to launch the right-click window.
    anyone else having this issue? i have a feeling its a PB issue because i have received a bunch of iBooks and G5s in the last few weeks, brought all of them up to date with OS updates and programs, and only the PBs are having problems.
    eric

    I tried trashing the Finder prefs already, no luck. creating a new user doesnt work either. its really weird. i can right click on the dock and in any program, but if i right click in a finder window or on the desktop, the Finder crashes and restarts.
    i'm going to start uninstalling programs to see if that fixes the problem. i have a feeling that its an improper uninstall of Office X.
    this is the only PB with this problem. the other PB that i have set up (still have another 4 in boxes) is having issues with iTunes and a new iPod. i think the problem is the iPod. its also being used by someone who have never used a Mac before. so i think the "problems" might be an inexperienced user. i'm the IT guy at a company of only 15 and trying to move from PC to Mac. and all the growing pains associated with that...
    at least our Xsan with 4 HD editing systems is working. amazing how its always the little stuff that trips us up.

  • Voice Controled Video Capture 2 Microphone Problem

    I am trying to use AppleScript to do a few video capture functions by
    voice control and I have hit a stumbling block where I don't think that
    I can have 2 mics open at the same time.
    I have the voice control part working and I can get BTV Pro to turn on
    the camera and start recording but when I do it cuts the mic for the
    voice control aspect.
    I am using an iSight for the video capture and a USB headphone with mic
    for the voice control and status feedback.
    Is there any way to keep both mics active? Allowing the voice recognition server to
    listen to the USB mic and the video recrding app to listen to the iSight mic.
    I have a copy of the script here:

    Thank you for a very comprehensive post.
    The usual suspects in this situation are:
    - Capture now caught in an endless loop allocating disk space
    or
    - Firewire bus problems
    or
    -Quicktime install issues
    Capture Now: You have taken a good step is setting a limit in capture now. Often that is all it takes if there are no other issues.
    Firewire Bus Problems: Canon cameras are notorious for their weak implementation of the firewire control protocol and do not play well with other devices (aka hard drives) on the same firewire bus.
    To test for firewire overload - take away your external hard drive and try capturing directly to an internal disk. If it works, you have two ways to solve the problem. You could install a PCI firewire card. This will create a second bus and you connect your camera to the new card and your hard drive(s) to the original firewire ports on the computer. Or, install a second internal hard drive within the computer and make that the capture scratch disk.
    Quicktime Problems: If you can't capture directly to your internal disk, try capturing with iMovie. iMovie does not use Quicktime in capturing, it simply writes the DV stream file directly to the disk without any processing (splitting into seperate audio & video components). If iMovie works, your Quicktime installation is likely funky. Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
    Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
    Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
    Reboot
    I hope one of these items addresses your issues.
    Good luck.
