My 2 gen ipod touch loses all power and says it needs to recharge withtin minutes of FULLY charging it. what the heck is wrong here?

it normaly last about 3 days for me but now it just randomly says its completely out of power within an hour or so of charging it even if i dont do anything.

Sounds like the batter is on its last legs.  I would make an appointmernt ant the Genius Bar of an Apple store. However, first try the following to rule out a softwre problem:
- Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore the iPod from backup
- Reset the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod

  • My old 1st gen ipod touch wont turn on and makes a clicking sound when I plug it in.

My old 1st gen ipod touch wont turn on and makes a clicking sound when I plug it in. The ipod doesnt turn on when I plug it into the wall, even if I let it charge, and itunes won't recognize it. I have tried to reset it with the home and power buttons. Whats wrong and how can I fix it? I think it might be the memory or the battery. What could the clicking sound be related to? Thanks

Try placing the iPod in recovery mode and then try restoring the iPod.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
After that I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Let the battery drain dead, recharge it and test. If it still does not work, restore.

I was using my old iPhone 4 as an iPod for 4  months when one day I got this error message saying "phone is deactivated visit your local to reactive" ... what the heck??? now the freakin thing won't even charge!!!

Nope. I've already turned off cellular data. It happens regardless, as soon as it is done powering on.
I suspect it might just be built into the phone's firmware to do that... and I have to hit "ignore" whenever it happens, but I just wanted confirmation of that...

  • My 4th gen Ipod touch won't power up but is recognized by itunes and is in recovery mode! What can I do/

I can't get my 4th gen ipod touch to turn on but itunes see's it and is in recovery mode. I can hear the beep beep when I plug it in to the usb port. I have also charged it for 3 hrs so far but won't fire up. I tried the customery hold the home and power button routine but don't know what else to do. I tried recovery mode but the itunes say's"waiting for the ipod" and I guess cause it's not on it won't recover. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance to all who reply!

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 3rd-Gen Ipod Touch Overheating All the Time!

I have a 3rd-Gen Ipod Touch, 32gb that I bought over a year ago. I've never had a problem with it before until about two weeks ago and it's concerning me quite a bit. Whenever I use it, within 5 minutes it becomes very hot, mostly on the bottom near where it charges. Within 10 minutes, the heat has spread throughout the whole device and has become so hot that I can no longer hold it. This happens all the time, not when it's charging. I'm worried that it will overheat to the point that I can no longer use it.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a way that I can fix this? Do I have to have the battery replaced or something?
I appreciate any feedback, and thanks.

Sounds like a bad battery. Search ebay, there are people who provide the replacement service for as low as $19.

  • When synching my 4th gen ipod touch I get error msg saying ipod could not be backed up because session could not be started with the ipod. It only does synch steps 2-5. Do I have to restore it?

When synching by 4th gen ipod touch it skips the first step - backup-, does steps 2 through 5, then I get a message the ipod could not be backed up because a session could not be started with the ipod. How do I fix this? Do I have to restore my ipod? Will all my apps be erased?

You have to have an internet connection, either wireless or through a computer with iTunes.  When you choose Software Update you can only update to the latest version for your iPod Touch, iOS 6.1.6

  • My 4th gen iPod touch will not power on, will not charge anywhere, and is not recognized as plugged in by iTunes. This is irritating, as a friend had given it to me in perfect working condition because she got a new 5th gen iPod Touch.

I just got this 4th-gen Touch from a friend because she got a new 5th-gen. when she gave it to me, the 4th-gen was in perfect working order, and I haven't used it since she gave it to me. I had put it in sleep mode and put it on my dresser, wher it has sat without being messed with for two weeks. Now, all of a sudden, it won't power on, it won't charge no matter WHERE i plug it in to charge, and not even a hard reboot has worked. My computer will not even recognize that it is even plugged in. There is no red low battery symbol displayed, nothing to make it seem as if it is charging, and, if it is charging, no response is evoked from it when I tap it, or push any buttons. The warranty on the thing has expired, and I really need to find out what is wrong with it and get it fixed. Can ANYBODY HELP ME?????????  if somebody can point me in the right direction, or even help me get it physically fixed, i am willing to give MAJOR points, and it would be greatly appreciated.

Didn't you already post something similar:
Yesterday, I went and bought a refurbished 3rd-generation iPod touch, with a warranty for needed repairs in the future. When I went home after buying it, I plugged it into my computer to start charging. I plugged it in, and the battery in the iPod exploded, and now it won't power on period, even when it is plugged in or docked. I bought a warranty to go with the iPod because I figured that I was probably going to drop it, and then need it repaired. But Apple cannot even find the purchase record on file from where I bought the AppleCare warranty on it, so now I am stuck with what is now basically a paperweight. What should I do?

And would this be the same iPod with the fried battery?

  • IPod Touch 4G Sleep/Power and Volume buttons not working/responding

I got my iPod touch 4th Generation last Christmas from Japan.
After 2 days, I updated to iOS 4.2.1.
The next day the buttons stopped working.
Everything else works perfectly except for the three buttons on the side.
I've seen other posts about this issue before.
Sometimes it works then it doesn't, sometimes it works, then it doesn't.
It works fine randomly. But most of the time, it isn't working.
I found a solution where all you have to do is
disable the auto-lock(set it to "never") and hold the two volume buttons and the sleep/power buttons at the same time but that doesn't work for my iPod.
I tried resetting (Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings),
    restoring it and even
draining the battery and turning it on again but to no avail.
I had to make do with ejecting it from iTunes while holding the sleep button then unplugging it while still holding the sleep button.
It worked for a while, but not anymore.
My friend's got the same issue.
    Anyone got any other solution?

i just called apple about 5 mins ago and they said that they have never heard of this problem..they dont want to accept the fact that thier product is a lemon...they told me to buy a new one or get this one repaired..hope someone from apple reads this and tries to help their customers..
.....hope they employ some grown ups to assemble these products in china..not little kids..
    what a waste of money..

    Hi,
I've had my iPod touch for a really long time and it recently starts to shut off or freezes all the time.  There is always batteries in it and I am getting annoyed by restarting it all the time.  Is there any way to fix this and will apple do anything about it because it is a old generation iPod touch.  Thanks!

  • 2nd Gen iPod Touch intermittent shut off and/or screen shots, blinking +

Hi - concerned, not very technical mom here, trying to help out my son. His iPod touch shuts off, goes to the front screen, takes screen shots, sometimes the touch works and sometimes it doesn't, it blinks, I am not sure what to do. Any and all very specific (remember not real techy mom here) suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.

I've had this same problem. It ended up being a problem in the hardware. Your going to need to take it to a Apple Genius Bar. They will help you understand the problem better.

Try the following. It is very likely you will have to restore and thus erase the iPod. You can restore from backup.
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

  • My iTunes on my iPod touch is all in Hong Kong dollars where as it should be in English pounds. What should I do?

My iTunes on my iPod touch has changed from pounds to Hong Kong dollars and I want it to change back as I can not buy anything. What do I do to fix it? Please help. Thanks x

Take a look at the troubleshooting steps provided by Apple in this support article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
    Hope those help.
Your iPod touch will never appear in Windows Explorer, by the way. It doesn't have the "disk mode" that the older iPods did.
    Regards.

  • Whenever I try to sync my iPod touch, a window appears and says that my iPod wasn't synced because an unknown error has occured (13019). Help?

Any suggestions on what I can do to fix the problem?
I've also noticed that it started deleting some of the music on my iPod touch, and so everything on it is screwed up.
I don't want to restore it because then I'll lose all the information on my apps. (Is there any way to recover that information along with the apps?) If I do restore it, will there be a chance that the error will occur again, otherwise I would have lost everything for nothing.
By the way, the software version of my iPod is 3.1, it's 2nd gen., and my iTunes version is very far behind from the new version currently available. Could that be part of the problem, too?

    Try here:
    iTunes: Error 13019 during sync
Not updating the iOS should not effect your problem.
As long as all the apps are in the iTunes library, you will not lose app data by updating the iOS.
