My 2014 Macbook Pro's charger is not secure. It flicked out while closing the laptop and cracked the screen, is this something apple will repair as its the chargers fault?

I have a 2014 15" Retina display Macbook Pro.
Moving on from my 13" 2012 Macbook Pro the charger on the 2014 model isn't as good and keeps flicking out, and not staying in place.
Unfortunately it flicked out on its own at the wrong point, when I was closing the screen. This resulted in the screen cracking!! Because this is a fault with the Macbook's charger that has cracked my screen, will apple cover it and replace my screen?
If not does anyone know how much screen replacements cost at apple?
I have applecare but screen damage does not cover it.
Thanks guys!

There's no one from Apple here, so we can't advise you on what it would cost to replace the screen. You should just take the machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP (making an appointment first) and get and estimate for replacement.
I doubt that Apple will fix the screen gratis - they will likely pin it down to a user accident. If you can actually demonstrate that it's the fault of the adapter, you may get a break.
Good luck,
Clinton

If your phone is out of warranty you will be given the option of buying a new phone or getting one with an out of warranty replacement, which is cheaper that buying a new phone.

    Help!

    Hi there Musicoshi,
It looks like this feature will be avlaible in OS X Yosemite later this fall. Take a look at the page below for more information.
    Apple - OS X Yosemite - Apps
With AirDrop, sharing files has never been easier.
AirDrop makes sharing your files between Mac computers simple. And now it works between Mac and iOS, too. So with just a few clicks on your Mac, you can take a file from any folder and use AirDrop to send it to a nearby Mac or iOS device. It’s perfect for, say, sharing a document with a coworker in the next room or sending a presentation to a client across the table.

    Try a SMC reset:

Do you have another power adapter to try?  Have you tried your power adapter on another MBP?  Clean the connection where the power adapter attaches to the MBP.

  • Why won't my MacBook Pro backup to Time Machine (on my 1TB Time Capsule) when I'm running Lion OSX 10.7.5.? What does it mean when this error pops up: MacBook Pro.sparse bundle could not be assessed (error - 1).???? Please help me fix this!

Apparently I am not the only person having this problem as I have seen many threads about it. If ANYONE OUT THERE CAN HELP ME, I WOULD SINCERELY APPRECIATE IT.
I try and run my backup as I always have, but it HAS NEVER COMPLETED SINCE I UPGRADED TO LION. As many mentions, I updated from 10.7.4 to 10.7.5 hoping that would fix my issue and it didn't help at all. I also unistalled WD SmartWare to no avail. It's really starting to annoy me since I have as much money invested in my MacBook Pro and Time Capsule as I do in my car....
I have more than enough space on the Time Capsule, but Time Machine is still failing and coming up with an error message: MacBook Pro.sparsebundle could not be assessed (error - 1).
    Someone, anyone, please help!

. . . sparse bundle could not be accessed (error -1)

  • My macbook Pro Retina is 5 months old. I have nothing but a cursor and a black screen. What gives???

I have nothing but a cursor and a black screen. It's only 5 months old! What gives here? This is my first Mac and I'll tell you, they aren't impressing me.

Did you get it fixed at the store? I have this same problem my macbook pro that I bought at the end of December. I am not impressed and very unhappy that I now need to drive to some store to fix it. I tried to get it fixed through the phone but alas it still does not work.
After spending as much money as I did for this thing that I've only had for less than three months and used maybe less than 10 times, I'm slightly upset. I need to have this working by Saturday.

Depending on the year of the MBP, the hard drive may not be considered a user replaceable item...but you can check the available 1 TB drives at good sources such as OWC, http://www.macsales.com they are great to deal with and have on-line videos showing how to do most installation tasks.

    Hello All,
My 2014 MacBook Pro is not picking up my wireless printer (HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw). Even when I connect the printer to the computer it doesn't pick it up so that I can scan documents. Printing is fine - I can't scan anything.

  • Macbook pro a/c adapter not charging

The Apple a/c adapter that charges the Macbook Pro (daughter's computer) does not charge the computer nor does the green light on the cord light up.  Was going to test someone's else Macbook Pro adapter to see if the issue is with the original adapter and not the internal battery.  Assume the adapter just needs to be replaced.  Not for sure if there was some type of electrical surge or problem that caused the adapter to go bad.

    Hi
Had the problem of "battery not charging" on Macbook Pro 2006
    Charger connecter lit up green
It was very new non apple battery from OWC
Looked at the System Profile only 16 cycles on the battery
AC charger was shown as "connected"
Battery showed up so not a problem with poor connection or not properly inserted (I had tried taking the battery in and out several times) but the profiler said "Charging: No"
Charger worked on another Macbook so that wasnt the problem
I tried the SMC reset where you sleep, shutdown, take out the battery, press power supply for 5 secs, reconnect AC, reinsert battery etc - No luck
Then I read the SMC also controls the sleep wake cycle and lid closure.
I cant exactly remember what I did because I was so ****** off by this stage and starting to lose concentration but I think I closed the lid and let the computer go to sleep and then opened it again to rewake.
After doing this 3 times the bloody thing now shows the battery is charging
A bit random I know but saved me having mental breakdown
I would love to know if this helps anyone else!

  • Macbook Pro Early 2011 says (Not Charging)

Hello, my Macbook Pro Early 2011 says (Not Charging) when I unplugged the charger, so I can't see how much battery percentage it has, the battery life runs normally, but I can't see where it goes because of the (Not charging) message. I can only see it when I plug the power adapter, but once I unplugged it, it comes the (Not charging) message again. please help. thank you.

ok, the problem is that it says (Not charging) even though the power adapter is not plugged in. It is charging normally but doesn't show the battery percentage because it shows a (Not charging) message. The only way to know the battery percentage is plugging in the power adapter, but once I unplugged it, the (Not charging) message appears again and don't let me see how much battery it has left.
PS: English is not my first language so I'm doing my best to be understood

If you have Apple Care or your computer is still under warranty, give them a call and get a case number.  Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Mid 2014 Macbook Pro Hard Freezing due to GPU Hang...

    Hello,
I have a Mid-2014 Macbook Pro (10.10.2) that I have been using for a few weeks now. I keep on getting random hard freezes on Google Chrome. Before, this used to happen about once a week, but now it seems to be happening much more often (like once to twice per day) - I haven't updated my software recently so this could possibly be an issue. When I had this exact same GPU hanging issue on my first Macbook Pro (bought 2 months ago), I had it exchanged for this one, but now I am encountering the same problem! I tried looking at Console.app and got a System report telling me that I had a "GPU reset"and also showed an "Intel GPU Hang Summary" with a "hang analysis". I know this is most probably relating to the GPU to some extent, but I'm not sure what exactly is the cause of this hanging. Any ideas? Also, any way to get around the hanging problem (I can just decide not to use Chrome anymore, but that would be a band-aid solution at best).
    Thanks!

Could this really be a hardware issue at this point?
The best way to determine that is to have it tested.

  • Whats the maximum resolution resolution supported @ 60 Hz on an external display for mid 2014 macbook pro retina 13 inch ?

whats the maximum resolution supported @ 60 Hz on an external display for mid 2014 macbook pro retina 13 inch ?

I don't know where you found 1920x1080, but that isn't the max. The INTERNAL display can even support more than that.
The maximum resolution is really hardware based, and since Thunderbolt 2 has a Mini displayport connector (Mini Displayport 1.2), the max resolution for Mini Displayport is 4k (3840x2160).
PLEASE NOTE: Not all adapters can support that resolution, most monitors that can run 4k @60Hz have Displayport 1.2 (The most recent revision), Mini Displayport 1.2, and HDMI 2.0. DVI dual link can run 4k, but only 24-30Hz, depending on the monitor.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Best way to transfer from mid 2012 macbook pro retina to new mid 2014 macbook pro

I'm updating to a new 2014 macbook pro.  am i better off using a migration assistant from one to another, or restoring from Time Machine (with ethernet to thunderbolt adapter)?  Or some other method?
    thanks,

I have used the Setup Assistant during setup of OS X and I would use a current Time Machine back up to point to during Setup Assistant. I have also manually copied data and apps over from another Mac while on my network. Both take some time and both were equally successful.
So, you have a choice after backing up your current Mac:
Have both Macs on your network, run setup on your new Mac and afterwards manually copy files from the old to the new Mac.
Run setup on your new Mac and use the Setup Assistant to migrate from a Time Machine back up all your user accounts, data and settings.
Question on a similar line except I wanted to partition the drive that came on the new Mid 2014 MBPro (2.8 GHz, 1 TB SSD, 16 GB RAM).  Migrating from the old computer b/u seems pretty straight forward, but once the drive that come with the new MBPro is partitioned an install of OS X needs to be done.  Here's what I did, I installed the Mavericks I had purchased from the App Store when it came out.  Now, from reading here in the Communities, some have indicated the shipped Mavericks version is not the same as the App Store version.  Now that the shipped Mavericks is history (after the partitioning) should I try somehow to restore that from the Recovery HD/process?  Or ???
This isn't my first rodeo, so I just went full speed ahead and did the partitioning and copied the former MBPro (early 2011) disk created by Carbon Copy Cloner over to the new boot partition.  It was suggested that an Erase and Install OS X could be done, but I don't see how that would bring the shipped Mavericks version for this new MBPro, unless the Recovery HD suite of utilities would go and grab that from Apple via Internet; which would be fairly lengthy since it would be via Internet connection.
I'll back up a bit here for a second... I"m not experiencing any problems (kernel panics, etc.) but not sure if the system now is as it should be.  Hindsight being what it is I should have made a CCC copy of the shipped volume of Mavericks; if this is an issue.
The system seems to be running fine, and some of my "issues" (for lack of a better term) could be just the way the new Mid 2014 MBPro is handling things - like memory allocation (i.e. using close to the 16 GB most of the time) and kernel_task using 1 GB of memory - more at times).  Possibly if I wasn't a regular watcher of Activity Monitor I would just be plodding along, since the system seems to be working fine.  Occasionally some apps or their processes take a longer than I feel is what should be normal to do, hence looking at the Activity Monitor to see what is going on.
Sorry for the long ramble.  Trying to see if I really have a problem that would necessitate a reinstall of Mavericks via Recovery HD; which could take up some valuable computer work time (which I'm also using posting here <grin>).
Thanks in advance for any ideas, suggesting, etc.  Also, to the person who posted to my other question on this another thanks for those suggestions.  None of which I've done - yet.
Take care all - and thank you again for  all the great minds who make these Community Boards work.
