My 6.5 sec clip has a 14 second minimum duration-why can't I shorten it?

I have a brief narration clip - about 6.5 seconds in duration. The file is 14 seconds however and GB won't let me shorten (i.e drag the triangle in the timeline) the clip so that there is no blank space at the end of it. Any ideas?
Brian

If iPad mini has the basic iPad 2 hardware, why can't use Siri on iPad 2?

Wrong on all counts. Well except for the A5 post.
The 3rd Generation iPad and iPhone 4s both have an Audience chipset for noise suppression/voice recognition that the iPad 2 et. al. do not have. The iPhone 5, 5th Generation iPod Touch, 4th Generation iPad and iPad Mini are using a different type of hardware based noise suppression/voice recognition that is an improvement over the Audience chipset (hope you didn't have Audience stock).

  • Slowing down clip has a strobing effect(choppy)? How can I smooth it out?

    Hi guys,
When I slow down the clip, it plays back choppy or with a strobing effect.
How can I smooth it out in FCP5?
    Anyone please,
    Many thanks in advance,
    Zia

    Zia,
I would double check that the 'frame blending' option is selected. Otherwise, is the original footage interlaced or progressive? If you shot progressive and only have 29.97 frames (or less) to work with, you might want to try a plug-in. If the frames do not exist, it will probably be difficult to get a really smooth look.
Should you have shot at 30i (aka 60i), you can do some high tech stuff with a playback deck and your original tape- set the deck to progressive and the 60 fields will be tranformed into 60 frames (per second), hence giving a slow motion feel that rivals that of film. (this depends on your original media and what deck you can get your hands on)
I just did this for a music video and even the best DPs that I know thought it was film.

This is not Adobe. We are Premiere Elements users trying to help other Premiere Elements users.
I will get back to the actual preview files produced during the Timeline content render, but first I would like to start with the basics of your workflow with this choppy play back.
    1. What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? What do your computer resources look like? Is your video card driver up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the video card? Do you have more than one video card in your computer?
    2. How and what are you importing into this project that yields the choppy previews of rendered Timeline content? What are the properties of these source media...video and audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, file size, pixel aspect ratio. What camera is this video coming from? Or do you have videos and stills on this Timeline?
    More later.
    Thanks.
    ATR
    3. Based on your source media properties, what are you or the program setting as the project preset in the new project dialog?

  • I have a 13 sec clip that gets shortened to .5 sec when I drop it into the project and can't adjust the destination to the source length

I created my clip from 3 PPT slides (as movies, one of the options) and it imports into the event browser fine.  I am using the theme Forever is never long enough and it has little boxes where you are supposed to drop your clips.  When I drop them in, the clip only plays for the destination duration time.  If it is .5 sec but the source is 13 seconds, it won't let me adjust it to play the full 13 seconds.  Anybody know how to adjust them?

It appears that you are using a Trailer (as distinct from a Theme). These are templates designed to give you a quick preview, similar to trailers you see at the movies. The clip lengths and music are all preset so that the video works perfectly in sync with the audio soundtrack. They are intended to be short, sharp and shiny - hence the very brief snippets of video employed, together with the accompanying matching music.
A Trailer template can't be altered unless you convert it to a standard project. To do this conversion, firstly, it's a good idea to duplicate the Trailer. In Project Library view (where all your projects are listed) click on the name of your project then from the menu select File>Duplicate Project. Now click on the duplicate and from the menu select File>Convert to Project. Now you can edit the converted duplicate Trailer just like a normal project - but bear in mind that changing the clip durations will cause the video to go out of sync with the supplied soundtrack.
Unless you are doing a highlights reel, your best option is to create a normal project from scratch, rather than using a Trailer template. When you create a new project you are given options as to whether you want to use a Theme or No Theme. Themes are quite different from Trailers and serve a different purpose. They help to spice up your video by introducing snazzy titles and transitions. You have complete flexibility as to clip lengths, transition styles, added music tracks and so forth.
Hope this helps to clear up any misunderstanding you may have regarding Trailers versus Themes.

What is wrong? All the sudden.

    We need info, info, info!
    What version of FCP X?
Did you render? what are the project specs? do you use many compound clips? how much ram, hard drive space, how is the hard drive connected?
It looks like your mac can't keep up. Maybe the bottleneck is the hard drive, or something else.
Try exporting a master file and see if the video is ok.
Also, keep Activity Monitor open and see how much memory pressure you've got.

Non-destructive editing is an important feature of iMovie HD 6.
iMovie preserves the entire copy of every clip you place into your movie in case you change your mind at a later stage.
So, if you have cut out one minute from a 45 minute clip, iMovie will have stored two complete copies of that clip. This is why is helps to set import as 3-5 minute clips rather than one huge chunk. As DV runs at 13GB per hour your project files can get very big.
One workaround is to complete the editing of a section of the movie, then export that to Quicktime: highlight the clip/s, choose Share-Quicktime, turn on Share selected clips only, and choose Full Quality from the pop-ip menu.
Once you have saved the stand-alone clip to your hard drive, you can re-import it into your project using the File/Import command, and delete the original long clip/s from the project.

My iPad2 is only allowing me to email 30 sec clips of a video that I made which is saved in Photos on my iPad2. How can I get it to email the entire video?

It is most likely a size issue. I have a 3 minute video that's almost 200 megs. If you're just trying to show it, you might consider youtube. if you're wanting to upload/share it then you can try things like Dropbox or other onlilne file sharing programs.

  • FCE un synching vid/aud between Viewer and Canvas 3 secs out in 20 sec clip

    OK
I'm new to FCE having moved across from Vegas Video.
Working through the Izzy FCE Tutorial.
Starts with a 20 second HD clip that works great in the Viewer.
Drag video to time line and it looks OK except the audio is waaaaay out of wack. In a 20 second clip FCE is 3 seconds out of synch by the end of the clip.
I must have done something freaky here but I have searched and searched but cannot find an option to un synch audio/video.
    Also other weird stuff.
If I have 6 clips in the browser, drag each one to the Viewer, set the In and Out drag the first one to the timeline and subsequent ones to the the Canvas/Overwrite.
Only the first clip will show until I start playing the first clip in the timeline then all the others then suddenly pop up.
Also, Edit/Undo has an accelerator of CMD Z, nope that doesn't do anything.
If I set the edit point in the timeline mid clip, then drag a new clip from the Viewer to the Canvas and select insert, it inserts the video at the edit point but puts the audio somewhere completely different. The Audio timeline shows the audio in the right place but when you play it is randomly placed earlier in the timeline.
This is all very strange indeed and leaves a noob to FCE well and truly confused.
I'll try another reboot. But this puppy is looking like it may be going back to the Apple shop.

"Starts with a 20 second HD clip"
What exactly are the specifications of your clips? How did you get them into FCE?
"Only the first clip will show until I start playing the first clip in the timeline then all the others then suddenly pop up."
Sounds like you don't have the timeline set to fit to window Shift-Z.
"Edit/Undo has an accelerator of CMD Z"
Have no idea what this means.

Ahhh, now I see the problem, Grasshopper.  Problem is, we are all Grasshoppers, here.
Yes, that little piece of info is critical. I'd say the biggest difficulty with FCPX is the whole new language.
If I read you correctly, your Audio is in the Main Storyline (Track 1 in plain old Editorese). This makes anything else you add (above or below) a "connected clip", which we can no longer think of as "Track 2" because Jobs sez so. So, yes, you cannot just add a transition to either end of a connected clip.
No argument with Tracy's solution, because I haven't seen any other general solution presented for any attempt to treat connected clips as the main storyline.  And, of course, when they were "track 1" and "track 2", you could.
An alternative solution, however, is to highlight the connected clip and press Ctrl-V to bring up the Video Animation Editor.  Click the "reveal button" for Compositing: Opacity (bottom, right).  Once open, there is a "fade handle" to the right top.  Drag it left for however much fade you wish.  (there is one on the left as well, but you were only talking about a fade-out.)
A second alternative, perhaps for future projects where everything keys on audio, may be to create a Gap clip (used to be called slug) in the primary storyline before ever dropping in the audio.  Then you can add video to the main story line and modify it without having to go thru hoops to do the simplest thing.

  • Rolling shutter repair effect for a 20 sec clip leads to choppy and disruptive replay of the film in the window above. What am i doing wrong ?.

i have pulled the rolling shutter repair effect (50%) onto a 20 sec clip. Afterwards the
replay of the clip in the window gets very choppy and unsmooth After 3 or 4 sec.
My PC is pretty well equipped with RAM. So what can be the reason ? Thx for help.

    Oooops...forgot. You are right.
Thank you for supporting a Newcomer to Premiere.

  • Having Audio Continue to Play AFTER the Clip Has Ended

I am very frustrated with iMovie '09 mainly because of the audio, I have a .5 second video clip and a 1 second audio clip, but for some stupid reason it decides to cut the audio clip to fit the video clip and i cant change the length of the audio clip. I want it to play when the clip starts and even when its OVER. Is there any way to change this or should I just stick with iMovie HD?

Drag a still with a black background into your project at the length you need and the sound will not be truncated. You can do this from the titles pane. Drag a title into the project after the .5 second clip and set it as black background.

  • Clips are uploading one second long

Hi, I am just setting up a vhs to dv conversion, I have a Canon Elura 100 which has av to dv capability. I can open iMovie HD, and when I click on the import button, or hit the space bar, the picture will appear, but often it is just a still, or a clip 1 second long. then it stops. I got a clip as long as 3 seconds once, that was it. I have been able to shoot dv and upload easily, but so far the vhs to digital conversion is not going well and I have a huge pile of tapes that need converting. The help menu told me to take the batteries out of the camera, and reset the time and date, which I did, but no dice. I can see the video in the camera screen, and I can see it and hear it briefly on the computer screen in iMovie HD but they clips keep cutting short. Any ideas out there? Thanks.
    -jm

Hi Jeffrey - John refers to maybe not putting a tape in your camera. Actually, the reason is that iMovie HD has a bug. As I recall, unlike iMovie 4 where you could achieve a pass-through without a tape, period, now with iMovie HD you have to make the connection with a tape in the camera, and once made, the tape can be removed. There may be a problem with the camera wanting to revert to Standby mode.
[It's a while since I have done any of this, so my recollection may be shaky. Others may wish to modify what I have said!].
Actually it may be simpler just to copy first to DV tape, and then import that to iMovie. Doubling the time but simpler!
