My administrator account was set to standard?

So I just got a brand new macbook pro about 4 months ago. It was working perfectly, until last night everything froze and stopped responding, so I restarted my computer. But when it restarted it took forever to reboot and when it finally did it just gave me options to restore with time machine, reinstall os x lion, check my disk for problems or search for help. After trying to get all the other options to work (none of them did), I opted to reinstall os x lion (wasn't too worried about losing files or data or anything seeing as there wasn't much on here yet anyway).
So the reinstall seemed to work fine. All the mac basics were there and stuff and some of my files had even been recovered. But when I tried to reinstall an application I had lost, it asked me to enter the admin information to confirm that this was ok. When I entered my username and password, it didn't work. I tried multiple times and it kept not working. So I checked Users and Group settings and sure enough, my account (the only account that exists on this computer) is set to standard! So now my computer has no administrator account. Obviously, I need one to reinstal all my apps, so please help? D:

Hi
Do this, print it out and enter the commands carefully
1. Reboot
2. Hold command + s key down after you hear the chime.
3. When you get a text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
(Type these commands very carefully)
mount -uw /
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
shutdown -h now
4. You will go through the setup process again, create a new admin account, login to it and then change your existing account password or whatever else you need to do. You can delete the account you made in this process, or not.

My itunes account was set up under an email account that has been deleted. I started a new i tunes account but have the same device as with the old account. How do i keep my music thats on my ipod touch from being deleted whin i sync it to itunes after purchasing new music?

I have the same problem (deleted email account). I think I mistakenly set up an account when I was buying an Apple product online, not realizing that it would be the same ID as my iTunes.
What is the way to actually contact Apple?
I have been clicking around in circles for hours! Will I have to pay them to resolve this? I don't have any products still have applecare . . .

  • My talk talk email account was set up by a helpful apple employee to only send mail using an iname account (it worked perfectly well before this). How do I undo this?

my talktalk email account was set up by a helpful apple employee at one of their shops to only send mail via an iname account.
It had worked perfectly well before.
I have tried but been unable to undo this. Help!

From the Mail menu bar, select
    Window ▹ Connection Doctor
Look for the unwanted SMTP (outgoing mail) account in the window that opens. Double-click it. Another window will open, showing a list of all the outgoing mail accounts. The unwanted one will be selected. Click the minus-sign button to delete it, then click OK.
If there's more than one unwanted account, repeat.

You update via the Mac Apple Store, not the iTunes store—that's music and movies.

  • HT1918 My account was set up in the United States.  I now live in Turkey and I want to update my I Tunes account information but when I update my country it changes my I Tunes to Turkish which I do not speak.  I want my I Tunes to remain in English.

My I Tunes account was opened in the United States.  I now live in Turkey.  I wanted to update my personal information with my
address etc but when I changed my country it changed my I Tunes to Turkish which I do not speak.  I had to change my country
back to the United States in order to get my I Tunes back to English.  There must be some to Live in a different country and still
be able to have I Tunes in English but I haven't been able to figure it out.

Restore the device and set it up as new.
Either plug it into itunes and select restore under the summary tab, or (post ios5) go into settings, general, reset, erase all content and data. When either asks to save a backup, you dont have to....hit No etc..
This will bring the ipad to the start screen like you just bought it and erase everything.

Are you confirming your POP account is selected as the sending email account before the message is sent?
And regardless if the email is a new email or is replying to or forwarding an email received by the POP account and cofirming the POP acconut is selected as the sending email account, the message is sent by the Gmail account?
All message sent by the POP account are sent by the Gmail account?
If so, delete the Gmail account from your iPad and test if a message sent with your POP account which will be the only email account available with the iPad's Mail app is recieved from your POP account/address.
If not, something else is wrong or on play that has nothing to do with the iPad.

  • My iCloud account was set up using the wrong email, and I can't delete the wronge account

I had a friend help me set up my phone and she set up my iCloud account for me. But she got my email wrong. Instead of [email protected], it's [email protected] I don't have the password, and I can't delete the iCloud account without the password, but I can't get the password because it sends it to the wrong email. Is there a way to delete the iCloud account without the password?

Your appleid can be any email address you want, its the e-mail BEHIND it that matters. So if you dont have your verizon email address anymore that should still be ok. Goto http://appleid.apple.com/ and click on manage account, login to your OLD WORKING appleid, and change your email to match your new email address

  • Firefox sync account was set up but appears to have uninstalled itself, since the "set up sync" menu option is still present.

I am using firefox 5 on a snow leopard Mac and trying to sync to an iPhone 4.
I previously created a sync account but there is no sync panel in preferences.

Strangely enough, sending the email from account.services.mozilla.com did the trick this time! Thanks.

  • HT201363 I need to delete an existing iCloud account that was set up on my phone using a previous Apple ID. Since the I've reset both my Apple ID and password (lost my iPad) I cannot delete the iCloud account from my phone because it is still under the ol

I have an old iCloud account on my phone.
This account was set up using an old Apple ID and password.
Since then I've changed both id and password.
In order to delete the existing (old) iCloud account from my phone I need to provide the old password from the old and defunct account.
    I don't remember that password.
I've tried resetting it through the support network but to no avail.
I need to delete the old account in order to set up a new one.
    Any thoughts?

If the ID is yours but you don't know the password, you'll have to reset it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5787).  If the ID belongs to a previous ownder of the phone, you'll have to either get the ID and password from them, or have them erase the phone and remove it from their account as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4515.

  • Have lost my Administrator account  - can no longer make any system changes

Since I had forgotten my Administrator Password on my son's Mac, I inserted a Leopard DVD, restarted the Mac while holing the "c" key and used the utilities menu to reset the password on my Administrator acount.
After following the on screen steps to reset the computer, when I rebooted the Mac my administrator account was now completely missing.
All that is left are two standard user accounts that work fine but do not allow me to install new hardware becasue they are not administrator accounts. What did I do wrong? and can I recover my Administrator account or promote one of the remaining standard user accounts to adminstrator level?
Thanks in advance for any help

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!!
    What did I do wrong?
Did you use a Leopard DVD on a Tiger system? That's what your post appears to be saying.
and can I recover my Administrator account or promote one of the remaining standard user accounts to adminstrator level?
You can use the appropriate one of these User Tips to promote one of the existing ones:
I lost my admin user (Mac OS X 10.4 and earlier)
I lost my admin user (Mac OS X 10.5)
Be sure you use the right tip, and also to make the appropriate username substitutions.

  • Administrator account disappeared

    Hi,
some weeks ago, my administrator account disappeared. I think this happens after I used Onyx. I have an administrator account and a standard account on my Macbook. Typically, I am using the standard account. One day, however, when I wanted to install an update, I was surprised by finding that my administrator account was gone. I can not log into it. My macbook simply don't recognize that there is another account.
In the user menu, I can see my old admin account below Groups?!? I tried several things, however, I was not able to log into my admin account.
Anyone seen something similar? I guess that I probably have to reinstall Mac OS X, but I would like to avoid this option.
    Best, Crobus

the directory services record of that account got corrupted and needs to be recreated. since you don't have an admin account any more you need to enable the root account first. use this link
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1278
to log in as root. once you are logged in as root run the following terminal command
    rm /var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default/users/short-user-name.plist
Instead of short-user-name put in the above the short name of the problem admin user. It's the same as the name of that user's home directory in /Users folder. Please make sure you copy the command EXACTLY as given. it's very important. we don't want to delete the wrong thing here.
    Press enter in terminal.
Restart, log in as root again and try creating the account with that shortname (and make it admin). it will say that a home directory by that name already exists and ask if you want to use it. say "yes".

  • Cannot connect Workgroup Manager using a domain administrator account

    Hello,
I'm trying to determine if this is normal behavior or something is not working right:
When using Workgroup Manager (remotely or locally on the server) it will only let me connect with the local (Netinfo) administrator account that was created upon install of the server. It will NOT let me log in with the diradmin account that was created when promoting the server to an OD master (or any other accounts I created (under the LDAP directory) and checked User can "administer the server" and "administer this directory domain").
Once connected to WGM with the local admin account I then can (and still need to) authenticate to the directory database using the diradmin account (which works). Is this normal behavior?
From reading Apple's User Management documentation it seems to indicate that once a domain administrator account is set up you can use that account to log into WGM.
    Thanks in advance.

    Mac OS X (10.4.6)

OK, it looks as though I've figured this out. Using the Directory Access utility on the server itself, I needed to add the "LDAPv3/127.0.0.1" directory domain to the list of domains to search for authentication.
