My applications are gone :(

Hello there.
This day I got home to a my wonderful MacBook but one thing was missing: all of my applications. My applications folder is totally empty. I can't come to think of any actions I might have performed that can actually have resulted in this. Further more, I do not believe that they have actually been deleted from my HDD because the are no changes to the GBs on my HDD and I can still use the applications to which I have shortcuts in my dock or on my desktop.
Where have they gone, you think?

Hi
Right-click or ctrl-click on one of the application shortcuts in your Dock, and choose "Reveal in Finder". It'll tell you where the apps are - use the Column View in the Finder window to give a better look.

I cleaned up my mac and now all my applications are gone. I try to open them and it has a question mark on the app icon. Everything from System prefrences, Everything in itunes, iphoto, preview and mail? Please help

These question marks are on your dock? And you can't open applications from your dock?
If so, try this: Open a new finder window and navigate to the Applications folder in your hard disk. The applications in question should still be in there (the Applications folder). So drag each of the application icons that you want to be available on your dock from the Applications folder onto your dock, one by one. Take each of your question mark icons that are on the dock and drag them off the dock to get rid of them. See if that fixes you up.
Now, if your hard disk no longer has an Applications folder in it, or the Applications folder is empty, you are going to have to reinstall OS 10.6 then do a software update to bring you back up to OS 10.6.8. You may be able to just go to the "optional installs" folder on the installer DVD and maybe all the stock applications are there -- I don't remember and I don't have an installer DVD handy to look. That would be way easier than doing a full blown OS reinstall. Also, as I recall, if OS 10.6 was on the computer when you bought it from the store, I think there should be an "extras" DVD that has a handful of applications that could be reinstalled from it, too.

  • Mavericks: certain windows of active applications are 'gone'.

Since I installed Mavericks, I notice that while changing back and forth between different users, certain windows of active applications are 'gone'. How come?
In my case it happens to Filemaker.
FMPro itself is still active, but the window which was open when I changed to another user, is gone when I return to the original user.
The only way to restore this is: quit FMPro and restart again.
    Strange.
How can I repair this, or is it a bug?

    Hi
Well you have the right path. And it does show you the total number of sessions handled by each managed server int he cluster.
All you need to do is to click on the customize this table link on the same page.
Add the required columns you need to monitor and you are done.
    Cheers,

  • Applications are Gone

This morning I upgraded my iPhone 3 to version 4.3.3. After that I think I have mistakenly ticked "sync application" box in my itunes page. Then all my applications that I bought thru application store are gone. The icons are still there but cannot browse the content. Is there any way that I can undo this action so that I can retrieve back those applications? Hope someone can help. Thanks.
    Wan

I'm not sure if I read you right - is the Application folder still there on your hard disk? If so, drag it to the bottom of the sidebar, just below the last icon, and Applications should be restored to the sidebar.

Oops! The answer just above was posted while I was composing my response.

  • Time machine backup, now all applications are gone and cant reinstall anything

My computer froze earlier today and I rebooted and I kept getting the grey loading circle.  Nothing seemed to work so I loaded in safe mode and reinstalled from an earlier version of a backup i had on time machine.  When the computer booted back up, all the applications on the computer were gone, replaced by little grey question marks.  I had no access to the internet and none of my other time machine backups seem to have applications either.
I have tired command R to reinstall, and that doesnt work either.  I have a copy of 10.6.3 Snow Leopard on disc but that doesnt work either because when I try to launch it, i get a message saying the application needed to launch snow leopard is not available.
I am at a loss as to what to do.  I cant install any applications that i know of to let me install snow leopard so I am left with a brick.
I was running Lion at the time, but i have no backup copy of that, and no way to put it on here.  I would like to do a clean install with snow leopard, any tips you could give me to help would be great.

What happens when you try to start holding Command and R keys?
From what I see, it looks like you restored a Snow Leopard backup onto Lion, which damages OS X.
Now, what I recommend you to do is to insert the Snow Leopard DVD you have and hold the C key while your computer is starting. Then, choose your language, go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar), choose the option to restore a backup and follow the steps.
After restoring the backup, open  > Software Update, and install the latest version. Finally, upgrade to OS X Lion by downloading it from the Mac App Store

  • MY APPLICATIONS ARE GONE....HELP!!

Hello. After Leopard install, many of my applications got moved to the 'Previous System' folder. If I double click them out of the 'applications' folder that is in the previous system folder, it runs just fine.
Question: Can I simply drag the application into the new 'applications' folder? Do I need to keep all those folder in the 'previous system' folder in order for the programs to work? It sure is a waste of space.
    Thanks.

If you have confirmed that the apps are working properly you can simply move them (or migrate them) to your "new" Applications folder. Any that +do not+ run properly should be checked for any known incompatibility. If none are found, I would reinstall them. If any are found, I would not recommend reinstalling or moving those apps into your new system until they have been properly updated for 10.5

  • IOS 5.1 update -all applications are gone!

    Hi there,
I have just updated my iPhone4 to iOS 5.1.
When update is finish I see no application that I had on my iPhone so far.
All the contacts, photos, music, docs are fine but there are no applications. I paid for them some money and I kind of mad right now. What is going on?
The update should back them up and restore after update and nothing like this has happened.
    Does anybody know any solution?
    Please help!
    Marek

No, the update does NOT back up the apps. It backs up the app data. All of the apps should have already been in the iTunes library on your computer. If you did not transfer purchases BEFORE you started the process and they are not in iTunes now, you will have to re-download them. You can do this using the same Apple ID originally used to purchase them without being charged for them again.

  • I updated to OS X version 10.9 and now my applications in the applications folder are gone

When I click Finder-->katelynsmith(with the little house icon; under favorites)-->Applications folder all of the icons for my applications are gone (chess, iPhoto, etc.).  However, when I search for "chess" (or any application names, for that matter), hilight the icon, and click the tiny applications folder on the toolbar on the bottom of the window (see photo attached), all of my applications are there and they still work.
Why did this happen and how can I get the applications back to the applications folder they used to be in?  Do I need to just copy and paste all of them?
    Thank you,
    Katelyn

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
There are two Applications folders: /Applications (in the root level of the hard drive) and ~/Applications (in your user folder).
If you have a look at the bottom part of the screenshot, you can see where Chess is stored, and it indicates that it's stored in /Applications, so you are looking for applications in the wrong folder.
Open a Finder window, go to Finder menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > Sidebar, and mark Applications. Then, close the Preferences window and you will be able to access to the Applications folder in the Finder sidebar. Another option would be to go to View menu (on the menu bar) and type:
    /Applications

  • All messages in sent folder are gone! :(

    Hi there,
All messages in the "Sent" folder in the Mail application are gone!
I had around 2,000 messages, some with large attachments.
    Did "Mail" just deleted them?!
Could I somehow recover the lost messages?
Please help if you know anything about this unfortunate incident...
    Thanks!
    1.6 GHz powerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You have adequate free hard drive space - with a 74.5 GB HD capacity, you should keep no less than 7.5 - 8 GB free.
What is the overall size of the Mail folder?
The Mail.app alone requires the same amount of free hard drive space as the overall size of the Mail folder for general housekeeping purposes during use. If you don't have adequate free hard drive space, application preference files can become corrupt or be lost and data loss can also occur.
Each email client has limits and with Jaguar/Panther Mail, you shouldn't allow a mailbox to exceed 1GB in size and with Tiger Mail, 2GB.
Better to utilize user created "On My Mac" mailboxes to sort received and sent messages by category not deleted that you need to save once a month or so. I've been using the Mail.app exclusively since Jaguar was introduced, thru Panther and now Tiger and I've never experienced the same. Before upgrading to Tiger, I didn't allow a mailbox to exceed 500 MB or so and I use the Rebuild Mailbox function on the most active mailboxes on a regular basis - once a month or every couple of weeks depending on activity.
I also use SuperDuper to maintain a bootable clone of my hard drive saved to an external Firewire drive.
Also, you wrote "When a mailbox has an "overstuffed" mailbox issue
which means the mailbox is corrupt, a good number of messages are
incorrectly stored in another and/or other package files. "
-where should I start looking ?
There is no other place to look. The other package content files for this mailbox have no significant size.

  • Applications folder GONE

One day,i was installing something and when it finished, my entire applications folder is GONE. all of my applications, such as safari, iTunes, system preferences, app store and downloaded applications are gone. i posted this topic form firefox, witch wasn't in the folder. i tried data rescue 3, it didn't help. it there any way to get the folder back?

If you have none of your Applications (did you do a search for, say, Safari or Mail to see if it was accidentally moved elsewhere?) - I'd suggest doing a reinstall from your install disk. You can insert the disk and then choose Restart, hold down the C key until you see the installer. Before proceeding, make sure you have any of your music, videos, etc. backed up just in case.
Once the install is done, repair permissions.
After that, download the combo update to 10.6.6 from the Apple website and install it. Again repair permissions.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349
After that is done, run Software Update to bring everything else up to speed. Again repair permissions.
If everything is working as it should, you're done (except for having to reinstall any downloaded applications).

  • Reinstalled my OS, applications are missing?

I reinstalled my OS and upgraded to snow leopard and some of my applications are gone? No Garageband, iphoto, iweb, imovie?

How did you do the upgrade?
Those are no part of the OS. So if you did an erase and install they are gone. You will have to reinstall them from the original media again.

  • I had Iphoto 08 and now is gone, I have under applications and is not there. Also most of the pictures are gone. Can you easily delete the application?

I had Iphoto 08 and now is gone, I have looked under applications and is not there. Also most of the pictures are gone. Can you easily delete the application?

    Obviously you can.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

Mail application is still there. All of my emails and folders are gone since iCloud. How can I get them back using Snow Leopard? Or can I? Do I have to wait for Mountain Lion?

I need to check a few other things...
Click on 'Mail' in the upper left corner next to the Apple ()
    Click Preferences
    Click the 'Accounts' tab
Make sure your iCloud account is highlighted in the column on the left.
In the account information section what does it say next to:
    Incoming Mail Server?
    Outgoing Mail Server?
Also, did you use MobileMe before the iCloud?
