My Computer has started to beep at me
Every now in then I get a beep, sometimes one, other times several. Two different beeps sometimes a lower tone then a higher tone. I'm runnning testing with KDE. This just started a couple of days ago. I opened up the box all fans (5) are running. Sometimes it does it soon after I boot and then every now and then. Any ideas :?:

Just don't load the PC speaker module, and you won't hear any beeps (assuming it's a Linux box). You could also try muting the Aux channel on your soundcard, which mutes my PC speaker.
I don't know what's wrong with you people anyway. I like it when my computer beeps at me (when it should anyway... Normc's problem sounds irritating). I've found that raising the beep's pitch to around 15000 Hz makes it much pleasant to hear. Almost subliminal.
What I'd really like to know is how so many people (presumably running Arch Linux) have had to go and disable the beep, whereas I had to explicitly add the pcspkr module to make both my computers start beeping.

hi, My computer has started to talk to me. It's an iMac G5. Every key I touch it tells me what it is, any activity t all it repeats it, for example "HTML Contact" when i go online. I can't find where to switch off this preference? Any ideas?

Computer has started locking up on a regular basis (several times a day) when doing normal internet browsing. I've gone through disk utility and safe start sequences but I see no improvement.
I've had this unit for a few years (can't remember how many)
iMAC 4,1
2 GHz Intel Core Duo

When I go to the activity center, I see the RAM used as follows:

I was just playing Batman: Arkham Origins and my macbookpro just turned off with a beep. When i try to turn it on it just beeps 3 times 5sec pause and repeats the 3 beeps again. Its a brand new macbook pro 2013 13" 4gb ram and I havents modified any of the hardware, how can i fix it?

My computer has started opening up pop up windows that say, "Step 1: Select File, Information Gathered Successfully, Step 2: Click Show Information Button", instead of opening the file I click on. This informaion windown has generated another pop up window that suggests I visit the iTunes store for an app that will open the file. Twice I have purchased apps that the iTunes store said would open the file. Twice the apps have made no difference at all. The apps did not open the file. Even more frustrating than being sold apps that don't work is that the files I'm trying to open are textedit files created with the software on the very computer that is now refusing to open them.
How do I get beyond the pop-ups and open the files I created?
Is it possible to return the apps that iTunes said would work, but did not?Please post a screenshot that shows what you mean. Be careful not to include any private information.

I recently started using my desktop iMac 27" and have been having problems since installing Mavericks, not saying that Mavericks is the problem per se. I think I have too many accounts with too many names, with too many Apple IDs and too many passwords, email passwords and Apple ID passwords, and keychain passwords, etc. Can't keep them straight even though I write everything down. The screen has been making me log in and log out with Account name and passwords after everything I've been doing, also confused about Users and Groups and how to sync everything. I finally just "shut down" everything and the screen was black. When I turned the computer on again, the circular gear in the middle just kept turning but nothing happened after that. Then I held the on button in the back until the screen went black again.
What should I do? Is there a way to combine all my accounts into one account with one Apple ID? I should say that I also have trying to use iCloud and it has different IDs and passwords. Also when I try to log in with one account name, I can't enter anything I write,and when I type on the keyboard, nothing appears on the screen, although I can receive emails, I can't send them.
In another account, what I type does appear on the screen, but I think it's an earlier account and doesn't translate aver to the other account. ALTHOUGH i set up iCloud accounts, they don't appear any more.
Very confused. Any Ideas about how I can get the computer to start up again and show a new screen?
Thanks to anyone who has workable suggestions.If you really believe that your system has been compromised, here's what you do:
Disconnect your Mac from your cable modem;
Back up any documents on your system that are important to you;
Boot your Mac from the system installation disks that came with it (insert the disk, restart your Mac, and hold down the "c" key until you get the "spinning gear" icon);
Choose a language and click the arrow button to continue;
From the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility;
In Disk Utility, select your computer's hard drive;
Click the "Erase" tab;
Click the "Security Options" button and select to have it overwrite all the data on the hard drive;
Click the "Erase" button and allow it to process;
Once the "erase process has completed (it will take a while), reinstall Mac OS X.
Or, if this is too much for you to accomplish on your own, take your system to an Apple Store and have them help you perform these steps. If your system was indeed compromised, this will remove any such hack. You can then set up a new user account for the computer, reinstall your applications (reinstall only from original disks or downloads from the company making the software) and documents, and reconnect to the Internet.
Note that when you reconnect to the cable modem, you may still get an IP address starting with 198. This is normal with some cable modems and probably not a cause for concern. It will not be an indication that your system is still compromised; that will not be possible if you perform all the above steps.

My ipod classic has started making a mewling sound and all it does is scroll through the songs. It does not play on my Bose sound dock or through earbuds. It will play when connected to the computer...but that makes it hard to take it on a walk with me I thought it might be a synching problem so tried that--still doesn't work. How do I fix this problem with out restoring it to the factory setting? I do not want to lose all my music content as some of it I cannot replace easily. Please help with suggestions and advice. my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.6.7 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) has started misbehaving on me. When I'm working, the cursor will start spontaneously moving to the in a straight line, and randomly right clicking on things.
If I close the computer and open it back up, it sometimes stops for a little while, then will spontaneously start again. Any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks!See this knowledge base article. Also, you might want to update to 10.6.8 (don't know that that will fix your problem, but it's the latest version of Snow Leopard).

I'm trying to sync my phone. My computer has been down for a few months. I go to try to sync it today, and it tells me my Apple Mobile Device service is not started. How do I fix this? I dont know where to check for what operating system I'm on.

For a while now my computer has been saying " Start up disk is nearly full", however I don't have a lot of stuff saved on the computer I moved a lot to a flash drive, and all the other stuff are songs and recently saved essays for school. I have and frequently empty my trash can. I have researched this before and i see a lot of things that say get a external hard drive, but before I go and purchase one I want to make sure there is no other, simpler way, to solve this problem. Help Please.
You need an external drive so you can free up disk space. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.

Ever since start up my computer has being running very slow
Ever since i started up my OS X Macbook pro today, the first thing that popped up was that my calander had converted to 2001, also my usually automatically connecting wifi was asking for the password. I then noticed how slow my laptop was operating (never been like this before). I have all the updated software and don't know why my computer has all of a sudden started running this slow.

The first thing I would suggest for you to check is to make sure your time and date is set to update automatically. If the time and date are set incorrectly, this can have unexpected symptoms such as the ones you are seeing. Here is an article about setting your time and date correctly:

How to react to Microsoft Word events?
