My emails are disappearing on me...

After receiving and reading an email it disappears. My inbox is empty and should have about a hundred emails in it, but when i get an email it stays unread in my inbox until i read it and then it leaves and i have no idea where to, my mailboxes on my computer are still showing the messages for this account so it's probably a case of me have settings set to only show unread mails but how do i remedy this?
Thanks very much,
Phil

Are you using Apple Mail? Gmail App? Are you using a personal address "@me.com"?
To give you a generalized answer. If your using a Pop Server (You have emails downloaded to each individual device via pop.emailprovider.com) in Apple Mail. Its possible that you have a setting causing emails to delete from your device, not the server where your emails are stored. If you can view your emails on more than one computer, then the emails are stored on your server. My recommendation would be to use an IMAP server setup if possible.
If you could answer some of my questions, I would be happy to help you more. It appears to be an issue with the device deleting local emails downloaded to it, rather than the emails deleting server side.

Having upgraded to 10.8 some emails are disappearing before I can read them.
They are present for about a second, display as notified, but are not going to junk or Trash.
The problem doesn't affect all emails and seems to be restricted to some senders.

What ype of account is this (IMAP / POP)?
Perhaps it's setup on another system (computer, mobile, etc.) and downloading there, while removing from the server. You may also have email rules moving it automatically or marking as SPAM.
Changing your password may seem drastic but will ensure your current setup is the only one with access to downloading/archival of the email, and you can then eliminate other possibilities as mentioned above.

  • HT2497 I am finding that emails are disappearing from my Inbox without explanation.  Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?

I am finding that emails are disappearing from my inbox without explanation.  Has anyone any ideas what might be causing this?

I found a fix elsewhere for Mail.app.  I had to remove every sub-folder under INBOX (I moved them to a local folder) and then used the MAILBOX -> REBUILD command on INBOX.  It worked, but now I don't have any of the sub-folders.
I am very disappointed with Apple.  I should never have to do that.  Tens of Billions of dollars in cash, just lying around, and they can't be bothered to make the most basic (and central)  of applications work.

  • Emails are disappearing...even though they are sent they're not in Sent/Trash

I upgraded to Lion on my MacBook Pro a few months ago.
I have now lost 3 emails (that I'm aware of) - in as much as they were sent - the recipients confirm receipt - yet they are not in my Sent or Trash files. I checked the whole system and they are nowhere to be found.
Printing every email before you send it is not a practical solution.
Anyone know how to fix it?

Same issue since did the last update with my mac mail.  Will see an email for a second and then it disappears.   Same for iPad, iPhone, on iCloud, macbook.   Did rebuild on the macbook of the email account and still saw the same issue this am.   Did  2 test send from gmail and neither have come thru.  They are not in trash or archive and no rules set and did search.   This is really bad for me because currently looking for a job and critical to see emails!   Any help would be greatly appreciated.   macbook pro - OS X Yosemite 10.10.2  Mail Version 8.2 (2070.6)    Note it is happening on all devices and mail is not found on web  iCloud mail either.

  • Sent Emails are Disappearing

It started off intermittently, and is now constant. When I send an email from mail.app, I can find no trace of that email on my computer. I've tried rebuilding mailboxes, envelope list resetting, restarting, cron files...this is unacceptable! I've searched but no solutions. Anybody get this issue to go away?!?!?!

    Hello,
As was asked of another poster in the topic where you also posted, it would be useful to know whether you are using an IMAP or POP account, and if the former, whether the Sent mail is to be stored on the server, or On My Mac?
No one answer will fit this reported issue without the further info.

  • The contents of my emails are disappearing, any ideas?

I have an old MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 and I use the email that comes with the Snow Leopard. A few weeks ago I started getting the header for the incoming message but the contents would be blank. If I checked this same message on my iPhone it was all there. This week I had an email that I was previously able to read on my MacBook turn up empty when I clicked on it. Than there are other emails that I get that wont down load the graffics just the links, there is no rhyme or reason to which ones it chooses to do this to. Any ideas? I would appreciate any suggestions that anyone has.

Try re-indexing the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

  • Emails are disappearing

I am having a problem with emails disappearing from my inbox.  I am using a pop host.  I am new to the iPad, sent a message to myself to save for future use, opened it to see that is showed the info I wanted and when I went back later and replied to a different email, the message disappeared form my inbox.  It is not in any other folders either.  Any ideas on this?

Thanks; I deleted and added account again and so far, so good!

  • I am using iCloud email and my emails are randomly disappearing before I can read them. They are not in any folders on my iPhone and I am having to call apple to have the last 7 days of email sent to me in order to retrieve what is being lost.

I am using an apple email account and my emails are randomly disappearing before I get a chance to read them. They are not anywhere on my device, not trash, junk etc. The only solution from apple has been to resend me the past 7 days of email in order for me to retrieve the missing emails. This has taken me hours on the phone with apple support with no solution. I just don't know what to do. They have gone over the settings with me and nothing has solved the problem. I don't know where to start since it is happening on all my devices.

Control-click on the background of the view all pages window and select "Preview Calendar" from the contextual menu.
You can also save the pdf as a file to compare to the printed calendar.  If the two names are visible in the pdf file then the printed copy should show them.  Contact Apple for a refund.  Apple Print Products - Apple Store (U.S.)

  • Can't locate email content? All of a sudden my email content has disappeared from inside MacMail? The actual emails are coming through but I am unable to view them as the area is just left blank! Nothing has been done to have changed this?

Can't locate email content? All of a sudden my email content has disappeared from inside MacMail? The actual emails are coming through but I am unable to view them in the content area! Nothing has been done to have changed this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

"One of the benefits of Match, right?  Saving hard drive space."
I would not use iTunes Match as a backup. There are too many bugs and I don't think that's what they intended it to be anyway. The main advantage of using it is to make your music available on OTHER devices, not to replace the music on your original computer.

  • Since I started using Gmail, emails on my Mac Pro are disappearing

I started using Gmail about two months ago.  Now (for the first time ever) all of a sudden emails that have been downloaded to my desktop Mac Pro's Mail are disappearing.  It seems like it's random emails that are disappearing, not necessarily all from a certain date range or anything.
    Am I doing something wrong??
    Tks!
