My iPad does not appear under "devices" in iTunes

When I connect my iPad 2 to my PC (Windows 7), it does not appear under "Devices". I have tried all the steps described in "Trouble-shooting". It does, however, recognize and show my iPod nano, when I connect that through the same USB. I have already deleted and reloaded iTunes 10.4 three times. Incidentally, I had no problem when I was using  previous version of iTunes before I updated it 5 days back.

Thanks Rudegar.
Finally what worked? I removed all the Apple software files from my PC. Rebooted my PC. Downloaded iTunes afresh, saved and run it. Ah..ah.. my iPad was under the devices this time and it synchronised well. I am happy. Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can't doing anything abouty this, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.

  • Apps does not appear under devices in itunes., apps does not appear under devices in itunes.

I am trying to get my apps to appear under devices in itunes.  They appear in the general library but not under devices.

When you turn on your iPad, you will not be able to see your apps under iTunes - though there is an iTunes Store, which is a different thing. Ito get your apps to appear in iTunes, open iTunes on your main computer and attach the sync cable. Both the general library and devices will appear.
When you disconnect the cable, you won't be able to see Devices.

  • IPod does not appear under devices in Itunes

These problems started a couple weeks ago: When I connect my iPod classic to my Windows 7 laptop, it doesn't appear under devices in iTunes, but the iPod says its connected. Also, a little blue sheild appeared over the iTunes icon on my desktop. When I click on iTunes, a message comes up telling me to turn off compatability mode before I open iTunes for best results because it was running on an earlier version of iTunes. I've tried switching the compatability around and all of the troubleshooting options possible for iTunes but nothing has changed and my iPod still does not show up in devices. What sould I do?

The blue shield is Windows 7 telling you, to log in as Administrator, it need this higher priviledge to add devices like your iPod to the Machine.
Perhaps, you can go to Microsoft forum, for the how_to override. (must be install and run iTunes as Administrator)
    Have a nice day!

  • IPAD/mini Ipad needs iTunes version 10.7 or later.  Ipads are not shown under devices in iTunes.

I recently purchased two mini IPADs.  When I connect either of them to my Mac, the first message displays says "no camera was found", then I receive a message stating "The Ipad cannot be used because it requires an iTunes version 10.7 or later"  Neither device is recognize or found in iTunes under devices when connecting to my MacBook.  Both Ipads have latest IOS 6.  According to "software update" on my Macbook, all Macbook software is up to date too.
When I first purchased both Ipads, I was able to connect them to my macbook and both the mini ipad's were found under devices within iTunes.  Not sure what changed.
Does anyone know how to update the mini ipad's iTunes software without connecting it to your computer?
Within the mini ipad, I went to the "general" table, "software update" and it says "your software is up to date".  Would IOS 6.0.1 include itunes 10.7?
    Thank you.

I appreciate your answer and your willingness to help me.  My MacBook OS X Verson 10.5.8.  iTunes is Version 10.0.  I tried downloading the new Itunes software, but it says iTunes software needs Mac OS 10.6.8.
I tried downloading OS software 10.6.8, but it says I need to download 10.6 first.
I assume I need to purchase this software (no more free updates?) in order to connect my mini ipad to my MacBook?  Do you think this could resolve my issue?  I believe my MacBook was purchased in Jan 2009.
Again, it's weird b/c just two weeks ago, I was able to connect both mini Ipads to my Mac.  I assume an automatic software update occurred somewhere.
    TY!

I am a new user and would appreciate any suggestions. My iPod shows under Devices on iTunes, and I've had no problem buying music from iTunes store or loading to iPod.
I have set iTunes to be the default player of music cds but they do not play when loaded (iTunes opens) and the CD does not show under Devices.

  • IPad does not appear in devices list on itunes

When I connect iPad to laptop it does not appear in the iTunes devices list. I have tried all the recommended Apple support actions reinstalling iTunes etc but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your tip. It didn't work in quite the way you outlined but it did help me to get my IPad recognised by ITunes. When I did what you suggested ITunes came back with something like ' can't connect to your IPad because the driver is missing, delete and reinstall ITunes to resolve this problem' . When I did that the IPad appeared in the Devices list.
I assume from this that the device driver was defective. Many thanks.

  • My iPhone4 does not display under Devices in iTunes

I don't know if my iPhone 4 got overheated due to the recent power failure, but I charged it the other day and have been trying unsuccessfully to connect to iTunes ever since.  My Mac does not recognize my phone - it doesn't open iPhoto or iTunes when I plug it in, and it does not appear in the list of devices.  I used the same USB cable I have always used for my iPod and iPhone - my iPod appears but my iPhone does not.  Additionally, I now must turn the phone off in order to charge it (it is at nearly 100% right now).  The iOS is 5.1.1, up to date according to the phone.
I've tried the following (most of which were under the link http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591) with no success:
Using a different USB cable: the second cable worked with my iPod but not my iPhone
Using a different USB jack: the second cable worked with my iPod but not my iPhone
Resetting all settings on the phone (a few times) - I'm afraid to Reset All Content and Settings as I'm afraid I won't be able to get them back
Quitting iTunes and getting back in
    Restarting my Mac
    Reinstalling iTunes
Also, I thought Devices used to show in the iTunes sidebar, even if nothing was connected - now I can see Library, Store, Genius and Playlists, but Devices does not appear unless my iPod is plugged in.  I tried leaving my iPod plugged in, and plugging my iPhone into another USB jack but still nothing.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I no longer am under AppleCare.  Thank you.

    Thanks Rudegar.

Do you have the latest version of iTunes on your computer, and have you tried a different USB port on your computer ? There is also some troubleshooting for a device not appearing in iTunes on these pages :

  • SD card does not appear under "Devices" as it used to - cannot import.

Helping to remotely troubleshoot an issue with my dad's iMac.  Basically, he has always put his SD card into the slot, iPhoto opens and it prompts to import. Something has changed (presumably he did not cause the change ) and now what happens is that iPhoto opens, however the card is not showing up under "Devices" - thus there's no prompt to import.  I TeamView'd into his computer to see for myself what was going on, and sure enough, the card does appear on the desktop (and in the Home window under "Devices") but there's no sign of if under the Devices list in iPhoto.
    Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance.

And for the future a good workflow is to import your photos keeping them on the SD card, properly dismounting the card and after at least one backup cycle has successfulluy completed reformat the card using the camera - this protects against lost photos due to problems and keeps the card format fresh to minimize problems

  • Itunes : Ipad does not appear as device

I have this annoying problem since udating to ios6
When i connect my ipad to my Mac itunes cannot find it. There is no devices tab.
Yet, for some reason itunes did detect an app installed on the ipad and synced it over..

Try using a different USB port.  You may also need to uninstall/reinstall iTunes. Every new iOS means a new driver to tell your computer what to do with the device. If that driver didn't get installed, you need to trigger it. That's what the unplugging/replugging does, as well as uninstalling/reinstalling iTUnes.
You should have had to update iTunes in the past couple of weeks. An iTunes update preceeded the iOS update.
You can also go into 'my computer' and 'add remove programs' and look for the 'apple mobile device driver'. Remove that, then try the unplug/replug. That driver is what tells your computer how to handle the iPad and deleting it can trigger the reinstall.

  • IPod Nano does not show under Devices (in iTunes) but is recognized in My Computer and also iTunes opens up automatically when it is connected

I dont think there is problem with iTunes; I uninstalled the right way and re-installed. And, moreover, my other iPod touch gets connected and synced perfectly fine. However the Nano 6th GEN just refuses to.. . Please help! Have tried all options under apple/support website, and uninstalled/ reinstalled drivers too.

  • Ipad does not show in devices in itunes

I have a new iPad.  I am trying to connect it to my iTunes and set up with my Apple account.
I connect to my computer.  The PC recognizes it as I am asked if I want to copy over the photos taken on the iPad.
I launch iTunes and it does not show up in the Devices list.
    Any ideas?

I have tried everything and still iTunes will not recognize the iPad. From the other complaints it seems this is a big problem for many of us.
My problems started when the iTunes v10 was introduced. I still use 9.2.1. I am waiting because I have an AppleTV1 and wanted to see how it effects others with the first version. I really like my older AppleTV and have many items loaded.
