My iphone 4 cant recieve or make calls.

and its the same with texts. it just started having this problem about 10 minutes ago and the notifications on my home screen are going nuts telling me i have no service. but im at home, and i always have service here. ive had it restored twice in the past 2 months, for different "hardware" (so they think) problems. i got it in august of 2011. do i still have the option of getting a new, free one? like a warranty or something? someone help

Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.
Have you tried ALL the troubleshooting steps? If you have and you're still having problems, then you'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation and possible exchange.

The OP is correct, I have done many tests. With IOS6 there appears to be a dns issue in some cases with IOS for both ipad(2) at lease (my wife won't let me upgrade here v1) and the iPhone4s in my case. Pretty easy to diagonse, I wish Apple would fix it.
1.) I use a Juniper 5GT wireless firewall and all of my other devices (many apple, ipad, MBP, iMAC,3 ipods etc) are fine: Not ipad2 or iphone4s running IOS6
2.) after upgrade nothing worked. narrowed it down by messing with dns (I have my own dns server)
3.) Strange thing; dns works over MiFI (Verizon) and Carrier
4.) confirmed that it is a dns and not network issue.
-down load free tool called ping-scope-lite. (obviously you need to turn off wifi to do this)

turn on wifi
- ping Level3 dns server 4.2.2.2 or Googlesdns servers 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 these worked.
-now ping by name google.com or ipchicken.com
- try others; same result.
Apple did say that they would give me another iphone 4s: I just wasn't sure that would fix my issue. I tried downgrading to 5.1.1 but I got an error saying my device wasn't able to do so (tried even blocking itunes from contacting Apple) I whis this could be fixed. I did even have it working using my own dns server but now I can see that my phone over wifi isn't even trying to make a dns request now.

I have the same problem. It only started a few days ago. When I make or receive calls I have to use speaker otherwise I can't hear a thing. I'm also pretty sure that when I try to make calls without the speaker turned on, it doesn't actually dial, but the display says it has.
I've tried restoring from a backup with no luck. I'm reluctant to restore as a new phone as it's such a pain.

There are a few steps you can try before talking to your carrier...
1. Turn Airplane Mode on for a few seconds then back off. Test trying to make a call
2. Go to Settings>General>About> and see if it says there are any updates available.
3. Try and take out the SIM card and reinsert it. Test trying to make a call
4. If its a CDMA phone (Verizon, Sprint in the US) dial *228 and select option 1. Test trying to make a call
5. Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings (You will not lose any data on the phone, only wifi passwords and bluetooth pairings might need to be setup again) Test trying to make a call
6. Try to use the phone in another location.
If these steps do not work, I would then try and contact your carrier

i have there is nothing wrong with the signal in my area, and they have told me check the mobile data network and i have done everything including reseting everything but its still not working

I have done everything from reboot, to press the airplaine button, I have also had them change the sim card out. They say theres a tower down on my street and thats the cause of my problems. Should'nt my phone pick up another towers signals though...but anyway they said to call back by july 19th and find out if the tower is up by then ... after that if I still have a problem they will replace my phone under the 1year warranty

try easy first. if pre paid make sure you have not ran out of date,might need top up. if on contract check with your provider to see if they have stopped your account, if all fails ring apple

I broke my iPhone 5s a week ago, so I called *228 to put my number on an old iPhone 4 that my friend had so that I had a phone to use while I waited for my new one to come. My new phone is here and i have all my contacts on it as well as my apps, but it won't send text messages or make calls. I can't even call *228. I was wondering what I need to do so that this new phone is associated with my number again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

IOS 6.1.3 Update on iphone 5- can no longer make calls

Since upgrading this morning I can no longer make calls.
Sometimes the call drops as it starts to ring. Sometimes it tries to make the connection for 10 secs again but then give me the dreaded 3 beeps.
Was perfect until I upgraded - but not now.
Help!

I have discovered that my iTunes media folders permissionslî(file attributes) were read only, and that is why the iTunes program was unable to see my music, except the cloud songs. When I changed the permissions and then "added the folder" iTunes was able to see all my itunes media. However after closing out iTunes and rue entering, the music and Apps were no longer visible. Looking again at the iTunes file permissions in windows, I found they were again designated "read only". I changed them again and add folder, but something is causing the file attributes of my iTunes folders to be "read only". Please provide any insight or suggestions for correcting.

The problem is presistant. I tried to send the text message but it does not leave the phone, it is only delivered after I turn the phone off and then turn it on again. Only then it gets delivered and even that is only for that moment.
Secondly, I can not send or recieve the calls as well.
Thirdly, after I make a call, the calling screen gets stuck and I can not talk to the current caller or dial to another caller.
Note: I have 'Not" dropped my iphone any where uptil now and I keep it in a pouch to protect it. The problem started recently and before that it worked fine. The problem started when I turned off the phone and after an hour or 2, I turned it on again.
The signals of the service provider is coming perfectly. I haven't found any problem with there service yet.

Network unavailable means the phone is detecting and using the SIM, else you would get a NO SIM error.
It means that Sprint does not exist in the Ukraine (obvious), and Sprint does not have any interconnection agreement with a local carrier. Hence, the phone can't talk to anyone, carrier-wise. You need to get a SIM from a local carrier and try again. If it works, you're all set and the phone is indeed unlocked. Else you have been conned and will need to go and complain with whomever sold it to you.

I have noticed that sometimes my wifes phone will stay on the last screen and not go to sleep and make me slide the bar to use phone again. I started looking into this when I started getting calls from her and just hearing people talking in the background. I caught it today when she came home. She sat her purse down and then the phone rang, guess who it was, the iPhone checking up on us. Not funny. She had not used the phone in almost 20 min since she called and said she was on her way home from work.
I also have noticed her battery barely making it through a day without being charged. Thats with the phone being used to call me a few times and sitting in her purse apparently on and not sleeping it turns out.
Anyone have any ideas of how to stop this. I dont want to find out she has a boyfriend from the iPhone telling on her lol...

My wife and I both have new iPhone 3Gs. This morning we got our first taste of the random "ghost" calling from her phone. It dialed my iPhone 7 times and the home phone twice in a matter of minutes. When I tried to call her it would hang up the call on its own (not drop) within a matter of seconds. Internet, text, and other features were working fine. She had full bars on AT&T. Here is the solution that we found. Power off the phone and power it back on. Hold the Sleep/Wake button down until a red power off slider appears and turn off the phone. Then turn it back on. Problem solved. I am sure that there is some reason that the phone program on the iPhone flipped out, but I don't have an explanation on that; just that powering the phone off and on solved the problem in our case. Our next step would have been a reset, but it didn't come to that.
