You should restore you iPhone from within iTunes. If that does not solve the problem, contact Apple as this is a serious problem. It's an i(PHONE), it needs to be able to make calls. Haha.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that doesn't work quit the Facebook app. Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it jiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then delete the Facebook app and download it again.

Pay no attention to iinami, the amount of replies to people saying their handsets must have been jailbroken everytime iTunes throws out an error is tremendous. (Clearly you don't need to have any real knowledge to get to level 3 on these forums, let's hope apple's geniuses know a lot more than some of their customers.)

Please tell us what kind of computer you have, what operating system and what version of iTunes. Not just "the latest version of iTunes", the exact version number.

I also had this problem. Go to settings> itunes & app store, tap on your apple ID and sign out. Then open itunes store. It should now open.
Then sign back in again and the problem should be resolved

I have a 3gs and recently upgraded to iOS6. Started crashing frequently. Reloaded software from scratch, which didn't help. Then went to apple store and they updated firmware there. Still didn't help. Started troubleshooting myself. Noticed that it crashed more frequently when battery below 60%. Tried shutting off cellular data and location services, just using the iphone through my home wifi network. That helped a lot. Never crashed. Then turned back on cellular data, leaving location services off, and it still helped. Then turned location services back on and it started crashing again. So location services seems to be the culprit.
Any idea how to remedy? Keeping location services off wouldn't be a huge problem for me, though I'd prefer to have it active.
Would be nice if apple would let us downgrade as the problem started with upgraded to ios6. From what I've read, I'm hardly the first person to say this.

You might check and see if there are any Console entries about what happened when you attempted to launch a CS 5.5 app.
Adobe links its apps with the particular volume on which it is running, and altho' I can't recall specifics, I know in the past I have had to reset Adobe's settings after OS upgrade. I do recall that it's a fairly easy procedure; just don't exactly recall what it is.
BTW, CS 4 runs on Mountain Lion for me.

Did you go through the carrier to get it unlocked? If not, and you hacked it to unlock it, then when you updated, it relocked to the original carrier. You will need to contact the carrier to get it unlocked.

I've upgraded to iOS 8.0.2 with no improvement.
I've reset network settings on both versions with no positive result.
I can't rollback to iOS 7 as apple has stopped signing the build.
I realise the 4s is fairly old tech but this experience has been quite time consuming and incredibly frustrating as I still haven't managed to resolve the issue. I had been holding back to upgrade to the new generation of iPhone but this experience and the negative press has made me seriously consider other options.

Here is what you can try,
Hold both the power and home buttons until the device powers off, may take 10sec. Let go of both as soon as screen goes black.
Open itunes on your computer and plug in your cable to the computer but NOT the phone.
Once itunes is open hold down the home button on phone and plug in cable and continue holding home button until you see the connect to iTunes logo on screen. iTunes will give a msg that a device has been detected in recovery mode. Now select restore and do not disconnect until you see your device in iTunes again.
