In order to get those to work you will have to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:

When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard, preferably the full 10.6.8 combo updater. -

You can create a new Apple ID without using a credit card for download free apps by following this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534. Follow it exactly as writtien. Note that you have to download and try to install a free app and then create the ID.

It is not telling you to update your iphone, it is telling you that you need to update itunes on your computer.

okay so i used a visa gift card i had gotten as a payment method to use to download music on itunes and then finally it ran out of money. then later when i tried to download an app it said "sign in required" so i signed in then it said my payment method isnt working but i have no other meathod and i cant cancel the one i have so i tried again and it keeps saying the same thing.. it wont let me download anything.. what do i do?
You probably have a past due balance in the iTunes store. If so, you'll have to enter a new payment type, or use an iTunes gift card to resolve the outstanding balance before you can proceed to download free apps, or install app updates.

ive tried many times on my phone and on my computer and it will not let me download my music! i have even turned manage manually music and videos from itunes and it still seems to be an issue. When i try on my phone it says "error download retry" and never seems to work. im always on wi-fi and i have tried off wifi but still is a problem!!! please help i would hate not to be able to acess all this music ive put my money into! thanks!!!
First no support can be provided for hacked devices or beta software here.
Second, if the same problem exists in iTunes on the computer, how does one come to the illogical conclusion that the issue is with the iPhone? -

i go on iTunes to download music and its not letting me, i put the password in for more than 20 times and it keeps asking me the same thing put your apple id password in what should i do?
I thought it was just me because I'm new at this. I hope someone answers this question quickly. Seems like it should be a simple fix. Very irritating.

Are you trying to do it on your computer or your phone? Has it worked on this computer or phone before? If so, when did this start? Does it happen every time you try to download something now? Are you able to connect to the internet using other applications? Are you running any security software? What version of iPhone and software are you using? Have you tried connecting to Wifi instead of 3G or vice versa? Do you get any specific error messages?

Everytime I go into iTunes and try to buy music it won't let me.
First it'll pop up saying you have insufficient funds(can't it go straight to your billing) ;ask for my password for my apple I'd and then it'll take me to my account setting where everything is filled out how my dad wants it and then ill click done and it'll just repeat the process over and it's really really annoying and I just want some music. ever since i put my songs off my phone onto my laptop to then transfer onto my iPod i have been having serious difficulty with my phone, i cant receive pictures, voice notes and cannot download music. i have tried everything, i have deleted blackberry messenger, deleted app world, wiped the phone 3 times, taken the battery out a lot and also tried to restore factory settings (dont know if it worked). its really frustrating that i cant even download a song or receive a picture! please help because i dont know how much longer i can go before i smash the thing up!!
