My iPhone isn't updating my Recently Added

What do I have to do?
I made a Smart Playlist already but it's still not working. What do I do?

There should have been a Recently Added (Smart) Playlist in your iTunes Library already, so have you modified it or is this a new Smart Playlist intended to do the same thing?
If you post the rules of your Smart Playlist here, perhaps someone can help you solve this.
Alternatively, are you saying that the Recently Added Playlist is in iTunes (and being updated) but that those changes are not being added to the iPhone? If so, are the newly added songs going onto the iPhone?
Are you Syncing all music and Playlists or just selected Playlists? Check this by connecting the phone to your iTunes and looking on the Device/Music pane (tab). Which items are checked and set?

Sounds like a 'stuck' Shift key. You could try to take the key off and put it back on yourself (should be some info on that from ifixit) or just take it to your local Apple Store and have them fix it.

Ipod will not update with recently added songs

I just updated to latest ipod software and itunes 6.0 for windows. I've since imported a couple of cd's to itunes and when I plug in my ipod (20gig photo model) it goes thru the process where it says its updating, but it never actually displays any tracks that its updating and quickly says updating is complete. However it hasn't added anything to my ipod. what's going on?

Try resetting the iPhone...
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, on the iPhone tap Settings > iCloud
Switch Mail off then back on then restart the iPhone.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

Buying a song on my iPhone doesn't update my playlists

If I buy a song from the iTunes store on my iPhone, it doesn't update my recently added playlist. Also, the song is added to the bottom of my Purchased playlist right next to the first song I bought back in 2008. When I sync it with iTunes however, it updates the recently added playlist and puts the song in the correct position on the top of my Purchased playlist. Does anyone else have this problem and/or know how to fix it?

1. Select your Smart Playlist
2. Right Click and select "Edit Smart playlist"
3. Add a new condition "Playlist IS Music" and make sure "Live Updating" is also checked. Press Ok
4. Sync and it should work...

Highlight the Recently Added playlist. Go to the File Menu. Select Edit Smart Playlist. Make sure that Live updating is checked. You can change the Date Added to whatever makes sense to you. If you add a lot of music everyday, you might only want it to be set to 2 or three days. If you only add music occasionally, you might want it set to some longer interval. Hit OK.

Recently Added isn't adding to my iPhone 4s

When I add new songs I recently haven't been able to get them onto my phone. After a few days suddenly the songs will appear on my iPhone. Is there anything i can do to get the songs to sync onto my iPhone in the first sync after adding?

Do you have iMessage activated in Settings? (Settings > Messages > iMessage > ON)? You realize that iMessage only works with other Apple devices using iOS 5 or Mountain Lion. Right?
Did you enable SMS as backup? Is SMS provisioned in your cell plan?

After 3.1.1 update messes up my Recently Added...

In iTunes 9, I have my "Recently Added" Smart playlist sorted by their date added. Before my 3.1 update, my iPod Touch would also be like this, but now the list is shuffled on my iPod without the shuffle option on. I have tried all my settings to fix it, but no luck. Anyone else experiencing this?

Are you seriously suggesting that going to an untrustworthy website, downloading dubious patches, uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, and very well violating the terms of your AT&T / Apple agreement, all the while, losing any additional functionality from itunes 9/iphone 3.1.1, is the easier route?
The fix I posted above not only fixes the issue, but may infact be the way that apple itself ends up fixing the issue. You can conserve iTunes 9, not worry about the hacker patches and oh yeah, it's 1 step for each playlist. I could see this as a viable - if time consuming - alternative only in the case that apple ignored the issue or there was not a better workaround available.

Hey man!
Basically those playlists were just 'Smart Playlists' created by iTunes.
To re-create them, click File > New Smartlist. Then select 'Date Added', 'in the last', '2' and 'weeks. Live updating should be checked!
Then name the playlist 'Recently Added'

Photos missing from Recently Added, Collections after IOS8 update

After I uptaded my IPad Air to IOS 8, photos were missing from Recently Added and Collections. (I understand Camera Roll and Photo Stream are gone.) My Recently Added photos dated to June (it's September) and my shared IPhone photos were missing from both the Collections/Moments where everything is supposed to be now. Photos In Last Import are also from June. I was fumbling through the Comminties threads and found a partial solution on a related IPhone thread. I can't figure out how to link to it, but someone called Apple tech and they suggested going to Settings/Photos & Camera and toggling My Photo Stream off and then on again. I was reluctant to do this since a pop-up warns that all photos in your stream will be deleted. But as soon as I did it, aphotos started downloading to the Recently Added. They're out of chronological order, and there are duplicates, but at least they haven't all disappeared. (Also, not w complaint, but my Recently Added goes back to 2011, not 30 days.) Photos are still missing from Last Import and Collections. Any other ideas? At least now this feels recoverable, I'll put everything in Albums quick.

Why wont my recently added playlist sync to my iphone?

I have the same issue with my iPhone 5 (iOS 7.0.4) on a Windows7 PC updated with the very latest iTunes. My other iPode (nano - old and new) sync just fine. Only my phone is affected.
I have one album I purchased from iTunes that won't sync via a plain playlist that I made just for that album. (The song files transferred to my phone as part of the "purchased" category. But I can't sync a playlist made on my computer containing those same songs.)
Another plain playlist I made for some spoken short story files in my library won't sync either.
There are no error message that appear while syncing; nothing stating that songs didn't transfer.
Also, if I try to make a new playlist on my phone and adding the "purchased" files to it, the album cover is wrong. The files will be available in the playlist that way, but with the incorrect artwork. (No idea what happens yet if I re-sync with this phone-make playlist.)

Recently added playlists not updating

Am getting quite frustrated. My recently added is fine on iTunes on the computer but via match on my Apple TV it's not showing recent added songs. It's like the playlist stopped updating as any songs added in last 10 days are not showing on the playlist. They are showing in the main library on my Apple TV so it's just the playlist. I created a similar smart playlist called recently purchased with similar rules, only diff is songs must of been purchased and this is behaving exactly the same in that any songs added last ten days are not on it. Sonething is working because I changed the rule to must if been added in last thirty days and it updated Apple TV playlist in as much as it then displayed a lot more songs in recently added going back that far but still none if the very recent ones in last ten days
Why is it not mirroring itunes and updating - any else see the same?

I've been having this same exact issue since updating my iPhone to iOS 8.2 - didn't experience this issue prior to that. I normally sync my phone via wifi, and I thought that might not be working. But just connected my phone directly to my computer, and still experiencing the same issue (playlists not updating).
Until Apple can fix this bug, the only workaround I've found that actually works is this - on your iOS device, go into settings and then scroll down to the Music sub-section and open that up. There is a slider called "iTunes Match". I turned it off, waited a second or two, and then turned it back on. At least for me, that seems to cause a proper sync to happen, without causing any side effects. Again, that's my personal experience.
