My iphoto program was messed up so I dragged it to trash and down-loaded it again. now when I open it , it says I can't open my library with my old version, use my new version. How do I get to my new version when it is the only one there?

My iphoto program was all messed up so I properly uninstalled it, I have a good back up. When I reinstall iphoto from my iwork disc it installed Ok, but when I clk on the icon it says that my library is unavailable, use the new iphoto. What is the problem? If I go to applications the same thing happens, I can't access Iphoto!

You reinstalled an old version of iPhoto after you updated your library to the newer version.
Update ALL your software and try again.
Click the Apple Menu at the upper left-hand corner of your screen and select "Software Update..."
Repeat until it tells you there are no more updates.
AND, launch the App Store application located in your Applications folder to see if there are any updates there as well.

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data. If you don't have any Apple devices then see HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

Help: I cannot open my library on my old computer using home sharing. I see the title, but can not open

I have an old computer that has iTunes library populated with numerous albums. I also have a new computer that has iTunes library populated with numerous albums.
I want to transfer my library on my old computer to my new computer.
I did /preferences/advanced/ and checked both boxes on the old and new computer.
I did /library/ organize on old and new computer
I can see the home sharing icon on my new and old computers.
I can see my new computer library on my old computer when I click on the home sharing icon on my old computer.
On my new computer, I see the Home sharing icon (with nothing below) and when I click on it, nothing loads.
Any help you can give would be appreciated.

This is the method I would normally recommend:

Apple new magic trackpad: Am I the only one who can't pinch zoom?

I'm tryung to zoom in or out using the pinch gesture in indesign CS5
it works fine on the built in trackpad of my laptop (10.5.8) but on the magic trackpad paired to my new Imac i5 (10.6.4) it doesn't.

Well I've been up since 2am so I hope I get some sleep otherwise I'm going to turn on my iPad and stare at it without being able to read a word...or worse sleep right through FedEx coming by.
If I happened to have a working printer at the moment I think I'd put one of those pre-signed things on the door. Of course if it's a new driver, as seems to happen frequently, they'll have to call first since they can never find me anyway (I've tried to correct Google maps but the corrections never stay...the funny thing is before Google maps they never had a problem it was easy enough to figure out there was only one house with a number that high, the next closest house being like the equivalent of a block and a half away, but now if its not on the map it can't exist). And yes I've tried putting various signs with the address down on the road but with the high winds, heavy snows, snow plows etc. they never last long or just aren't noticed even when painted in bright red . OK are you asleep yet??? No, okay well then let me again thank Apple for not doing Saturday delivery which isn't available here. That do the trick? Sorry don't know how to be more boring. I had a situation in which my Windows 7 had to be re-installed. Itunes reinstalled perfectly and my ipod synchronize perfectly. I subsequently loaded music. Now when I sync the ipod it does not recognise anything that was added afterwards

Earlier this year my computer suffered a corruption of the video card on my Dell Inspiron. This involved a need to reinstall Windows 7. Following this itunes re-installed and imported my library perfectly. I syncronized my ipod and all seemed well. Since I have downlaoded musiv and aded cd music to the library. I notice that when I sync the ipod (160 GB Classic) it only recognises the songs that were re-installed after the fault. I have tried uninstalling itunes and starting again but it makes no difference.

Imported library from where and how?
The correct way to handle this would have been to copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the backup drive to the new computer.
If anything else was done, it is unlikely that iTunes recognizes the media on the device as being the same media on the computer.

I cannot get ipod to start, Logo for power is the only one that appears but it will not recharge either by using pC or dock. I have used two different connecting wires but no difference in response

I cannot get Ipod to start. The only logo that comes up is the power needed but in spite of connecting the ipod to PC and using two different connection leads the ipod does not respond. I also tried to power it using a i station 7 but no difference. I tried all the usual pressing of both menu and play buttons. Is it fixable?

Thanks for your tip. I tried leaving the ipod in the I -Station 7 overnight and then reconnected it to my PC> It asked if i wanted to reset to factory settings. I did this and then the Apple logo came back on .After that a very sad looking logo of an ipod came on with www.apple.com/support/ipod underneath. I feel that either burial or cremation is my option now for this old ipod.

Using Firefox 26. How do I get a close button for each tab at the top of the screen?

Some time ago, I had a close tab button for each tab on the top of the screen. I want that back. I have no additional add ons and the close tab is set to 1. Changing it to 2 does nothing.

Do you have installed this extension?
*Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions
If you do not have the extension and also have no need for the feature that it provides then you can ignore this.
If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

I down loaded Premiere Elements. When I start the program a box pops up saying Adobe Premiere Elements.Exe- No Disk . Please insert disk into the drive

The uninstall and reinstall has been known to be successful in some cases, but I would not do that with using a free ccleaner run
through between the uninstall and reinstall.
The full suggested scenario would be
1. Uninstall the program using the usual Control Panel way.
2. Do a free ccleaner run through to get rid of leftovers from incomplete installs/reinstalls.
CCleaner - Download
3. Reinstall the program with the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.
Also, before starting the above, go to the Task Manager/Processes and determine that there are no Premiere Elements 13 or Elements Organizer 13 processes open. If found, do End Process for each found.
Depending on the results for the above, we might then try deletion of the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs File for 13 and, if necessary, the whole 13 Folder in which that Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists.
We will be watching for your results.

Most of the time Thunderbird only opens incoming mail with a double click in a new window which I find infuriating so is there a workaround or a fix for this?

When Thunderbird starts, it opens incoming mail into the lower panel with a single click. But after an hour or two this no longer works and i have to double click to open the message which goes into a new window.

sounds like a bad add-on to me. Restart holding the shift key and see if the issue arises again.

Thanks for your response, Matt. I have now run for a fortnight without having to double click to see a new message. All add-ons are disabled and the trick will be to eliminate them one by one till I find the culprit.
