IPod 5th gen won't charge with wall charger
I just recently purchased a 5th gen iPod touch. I had a little USB wall charger for my camera and decided to charge my iPod with it. It didn't work and it charges on a computer just fine so it isn't the cable. I then tried using my friend's Apple wall charger which worked for his iPhone 4 just fine. That didn't work either but my iPod will charge with a computer. Any ideas?
Not Charge
- See:
iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
- Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
- Try another charging source
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

IPod won't charge with car charger or on stereo dock..
A couple months ago, my iPod Nano (1st gen) stopped charging with the car charger and my stereo dock for no apparent reason. Is there some sort of setting that got switched in iTunes that prevents it from charging from other sources, besides the computer?
It charges just fine when I connect it to my PC...but it just doesn't charge when I connect it to the car charger, or my stereo dock...
Thanks in advance. No, iTunes probably wouldn't be affecting your iPod's charging from anything but a computer.
Have you tried resetting your iPod?
Press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together for about 10 seconds.
If that doesn't seem to work (you might need to try it quite a few times), try taking a look at this:

IPod with dock connector is not getting charged with car charger and iTrip
My iPod from 2003 with dock connector is not getting charged in my car by using the griffin iTrip with USB car charger. iTrip works, but not the charger. Maybe there´s not enough power output from the car charger? Only 5.0V with 400mA are coming out. iPod needs more? 12V with 1.0A?
Does somebody have information about that problem for me?Has Apple dropped support for older model iPods?
Nope. Support is still there, even back to the original 1G iPod with the wheel that actually turns. I have a 3G iPod, and it syncs just fine. There have not been any software updates for years, but the old software still works fine with the latest iTunes.
You have to use FireWire, which you seem to be doing.
Try putting it into Disk Mode first, then connect it.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
Does the iPod currently play music as it should?
Do you have another docking cable (FireWire) that you can try? FireWire connectors often get worn and they no longer work, although the power connection can continue to work.
Did you try the other FireWire port in the iMac? -
Please tell me if i just need to give up!
I don't know if my ipod is getting ready to die or what but i've only had it for a little over a year and i am having some trouble
the ipod seems to be rebooting itself repetitively after i attempt to hook it up to the computer. i'm not exactly sure what it's doing but every few minutes i get the apple sign along with something that is clicking over and over again inside the ipod ....after that i get the file symbol with an exclamation point next to it... then it does the whole process over and over again ... i can hold down the button in the middle and then it seems to be a little okay(meaning my music files comeback on the ipod finally) but still needs time to rest after the trauma of hooking it up to the pc because it skips songs etc..
when i hook it up to the pc i get the "do not connect on the ipod" and i get the little icon on my taskbar but if i go to my computer it doesn't show up there and itunes doesn't even seem to recognize it either. if i try to disconnect it, it won't disconnect and i wind up just unplugging the darn thing...when this happens it makes my itunes not responding as well the only thing that i've done different is upgraded to a newer version of itunes and i don't know if that is linked to the problem or just a coincidental to the problem i am currently having... i tried to do and ipod updater but it tells me that it doesn't recognize my ipod being hooked up .. PLEASE HELP I AM DESPERATE!!!! or at least tell me if it's a lost cause and i should just give up and throw the thing in the garbage..at least i will not sit here trying everything with no luck...i need some advice bad..i stayed up late trying to fix it one night when i let it sit for awhile it seemed to be back working temporarily....thanks in advanceThis is in regards to a 4th gen 40gb clickwheel ipod.
Hi, i've also been having a very similar problem with my ipod as well. I find that regardless of which windows-based pc i use (either my xp laptop @ home, or my win2000 desktop @ work) windows and itunes refuses to recognise my ipod. In windows explorer it will show it as a removable drive, but if i click on it, windows freezes. If I try to disconnect it, I cant because windows keeps reporting that 'the device is being used, try disconnecting later' and so then i shut down my laptop to disconnect it safely.
Lately, like you, i've also noticed that clicking sound it makes. It happens when i connect my ipod to my computer - like the drive inside it is constantly restarting or something, and i get it when i'm playing / charging it in my dock. I've also noticed that when it's playing whilst charging, it just freezes on a song, then skips a couple of songs.
I've just discovered the disgnostic tools on my ipod, so i think i'll run a couple of tests (ie HDD scan) and depending on the outcome, i'll go visit the apple store. -
IPod Classic won't charge with iPad charger
I have a 120GB iPod Classic and tried to charge it using the charger from my iPad 2. No luck - the indicator doesn't show that it's charging. The iPad 2 charger works fine on my iPhone 4 and I read that it should work with the iPod as well. Shouldn't it? Any thoughts? My goal is to be able to travel with just one charger. Thanks
It should work. See here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3044169?start=0&tstart=0

IPod won't charge with wall charger?
i have tried to charge my ipod touch 4 gen by a wall charger, or mains ac adaptor. it wont charge!! what wattage of voltage etc do you need to be able to have enough power to charge it?
btw isnt a apple charger, but using the apple usb cableSo frustrating - I am having the same problem. I have 2 shuffles and BOTH will not charge (via computer or wall charger) It seems strange that the first one (several years old) worked fine until recently when BOTH seemed to have died. Will not charge at all....

Ipod will not charge with wall charger or computer
Until maybe 2-3 days ago, my ipod was working fine. Now, when I plug it up to be charged, it won't. Not with the wall charger or the cable that connects to the computer, which are all Apple products and charge my ipad. The computer won't even recognize that anything is plugged into it. There are no error messages. Any help?
Hmm, that's weird. I've used the iPad charger to charge my ipod before with no problems. It's more like wall adapter that I can insert the Apple usb into.
But, I've used both cables, the one that came with the ipod/pad and neither are working. -

I am getting no sound from iPod, although works when on dock and when headphones are in. Please help
Does Ford say it will work with the 4G iPod?
Contact them.
Sometimes this works:
- Reset the car system
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
It just may not be compatible. -

Intel (64 bit)There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory and virtual memory.
That can happen for two reasons:
You have a long-running process with a memory leak (i.e., a bug), or
You don't have enough memory installed for your usage pattern.
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
In the Activity Monitor application, select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The process named "Safari Web Content" renders web pages for Safari and other applications. It uses a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider it a prime suspect.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.
