My ipod is skipping randomly

hi
My ipod nano 7th gen has started to skip songs randomly and has also started to tell me what song is playing half way through the songs and then skip that song.  the i pod also fast forwards the songs and then restarts the same song again without me pushing any buttons.  I have recently placed five podcasts onto the ipod and the i pod was fine until yesterday where it was skipping onto the podacsts without warning.  I have taken the podcasts off the ipod in hope that it would fix the problem all to no avail...
It would be great for anyone to help me as the fact is that the ipod id=s my life and i pretty much cannot live without music
Kind Regards
Phillip Cooper

So an update...
I don't connect my iPod to iTunes all that much. I have music on there that will last a while, and sometimes connecting it messes with my song shuffle... or maybe that's me... who knows...
Anyway, I grabbed some new music in the past few days, so I wanted to get some on my iPod. When I connected it, it prompted me for an update, version 1.0.3. Seemed to install fine, and still no issues with playback.
Have you gotten this update? I am assuming you did, and I'm just getting it now because I haven't connected it to iTunes in a while, but just wanted to throw that out there. I haven't had time to resarch when that update was released.

  • IPod started skipping random aiffs, now skips every single one ?!

    How odd !
I've always saved my own works in Garageband to my iPod as aiffs, the better to enjoy with a little more clarity and strength . .  a higher quality copy, of course.
Out of seemingly nowhere, the iPod would hesitate on one of these aiffs, then skip to the next track.
And yet while the pod was still connected to iTunes, the pod file would play just fine. The copy on the iPod, that is.
This began while I was till on Leopard a few months ago, and had all the associated versions of iTunes and Garageband . .  plus, at that time, my original 160GB Classic ( 7th Generation ) had been stolen !! . . . .
    so I was using my old waxy-white model from 2006 ( egad ! ).
In the two or three months since I've upgraded to Snow Leopard w/ :
    iTunes 10.7 (21)
    Garageband 5
and a newly purchased 160 replacement Pod
the aiff problem has not only persisted across all these new versions, yet has actually become constant . . affecting every single aiff now, not just random ones !
What on earth could have caused this slowly evolving shift, that no amount of app & OS updating has cleared-up ?

    So i fixed my problem.
I tried restoring the software on the phone multiple times with no success. It was just restoring the phone with a previously corrupt back up file. So I went into the iPhone preferences in iTunes and erased all the backup files then restored it. This puts the phone back to how it was when you first bought it i.e. all presets reset: weather, stocks, etc. but if you have all your contacts saved on your computer they will sync right back in so it is not too bad. This fixed the problem (and even some other minor issues i was having).

  • My ipod click skips to random songs after playing 10 seconds of a song

my ipod click skips to random songs after playing 10 seconds of a song and it won't reset either, can anyone help?
    ipod click   Windows 2000

There are three possible causes of skipping music after playing a bit of the song:
    1) the music on your computer is munged
    2) the music was munged as it transferred to your iPod
    3) the iPod is 'confused'
Listen to a couple songs on your computer - the same ones that are skipping on your iPod. Are they okay? Scratch problem 1 - otherwise you have some reripping to do, assuming you haven't backed them up.
Next, reset your iPod. If the music is still skipping then the fastest fix is to use your restore/upgrade software to restore the iPod. This will erase the music and re-install the iPod's operating system which will take care of possible problems 2 and 3.
If the iPod isn't resetting - first make sure you are following the reset instructions for your iPod. There are different methods for different generations. Also, sometimes it is best to reset with the iPod plugged in. Finally, make sure you don't have the hold button set.

  • My Ipod Nano 5th generation keeps skipping randomly within a song and sometimes skips to new songs.

My Ipod Nano 5th generation keeps skipping randomly within a song and sometimes skips to new songs. I have tried resetting it. I have tried updating and adding new software. I even tried just leaving it off for a few months and still it has this problem. The shake skip setting is not on. What I am to do? Also it is out of warrenty

Since you have already tried a hard reset, perhaps you could try a full restore of the Nano in iTunes. This process wipes all content from the iPod, resets all settings back to their defaults, and reloads a fresh copy of the iPod's software onto the device. This would rule out the possiblity of data corruption or a software glitch on the device.

  • Is There A Way Of Getting My Ipod To Skip Ablum Screen

I've seen posts about people having their ipod skip the album screen and wanting to fix it. I on the other hand want my ipod to skip it intentionally. Anyone know how to do that?

What is this "album screen" you refer to? Do you mean you don't want the iPod to show album art?
    Set it not to.
Summary screen/music tab/uncheck "display album artwork on your iPod".
If that's not what you mean, you'll need to ask your question again with more detail.

  • My iPod shut off randomly and will no longer turn back on. I plugged it in to charge it, but after several hours it will not turn back on. What should I do?

My iPod turn off randomly. I plugged it in to the charger, and after several hours, it still will not turn on. I even plugged it into my computer and pulled up iTunes, where it showed up on the screen as plugged in, but still it will not turn back on. Any suggestions on what I should do?

    - First try resetting the iPOd:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Next try restoring the iPod via iTunes, first from backup and if still problem to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • IPod Nano skips certain songs

My iPod Nano, version 1.0.2 Mac, model MD480LL, skips a handful of specific songs. When listening to music, one of these songs comes up for half a second and then skips to the next song, whether on shuffle or not. When I select one of these songs from the menu it does the same thing. These certain songs do not play on my iPod Nano at all. However, they play perfectly fine on my iMac, iPad, iPhone, and even my old 2nd gen iPod touch. My Nano is the only one that has this problem. I have tried restarting the Nano and restoring it, and the same songs still won't play. I've tried everything I could think of. I've serached through countless forums and have found many people with similar problems (but none exactly like mine) and I have tried every suggestion in each of these forums and none have helped. If you have any suggestions, any ideas at all, please don't hesitate to share.

First off, does your iPod only skip on songs that you have purchased from the iTunes Store? Or does it vary from some of those purchases, to some songs from CD's you've imported?
Also, does there seem to be a pattern, where your iPod only skips on particular songs, or is it ever-changing; for example, a few songs skipped yesterday, and now they don't skip anymore, but are replaced by different songs.
Have you tried restoring your iPod? For more info, take a look here -> Restoring your iPod to Factory Settings
If that attempt doesn't work, then try turning off your iPod's EQ settings.
Go to "Settings > EQ" on your iPod. If you currently have a specific option set (i.e., "Treble Booster", "Vocal"), then try switching your setting to "Off".
    See if that changes anything.
One last question: are the songs playing fine in iTunes, although they may not be playing well on your iPod?

  • IPod was skipping songs. So I did a "restore".  Now it won't sync

OK, my iPod was skipping songs. I'd play an album, it would try and play some songs, skip them one at a time. it was probably failing about 30% of the time.
So, I thought I'd try to "Restore" the iPod, and then sync it.
Restore worked great. It wiped out the iPod of all my music. Then when I tried to perform the sync, it gets about 250 songs into it, and then fails. iTunes says that it is still syncing, but it never gets past that point. Continually syncing forever.
I don't know what I can do here (aside of buying a new iPod -- that suggestion is not helpful, btw). Before I had an iPod that played about 2/3 of its songs. Now 95% of my songs are just gone.
Everyone says not to run Disk Utility on the thing, but I'm extremely tempted. But I'm at a total loss here. Any ideas?

Bump for the answer because I also have same case.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • ITunes plays songs but iPod mini skips whole songs

I have an iPod mini with the latest version (1.4) as well as the latest version of iTunes for Windows. I have imported songs into iTunes and they play fine, they also seem to upload to my iPod just fine. But when I go to play these certain songs on my iPod it skips right over them. It shows the song and acts like its about to play but just as it should start playing it skips to the next song. Anyone heard of this?

Hi Josh and welcome to Apple Discussions.
First, make sure you've played at least some of the purchased song in iTunes to authorize it.
If you've played them in iTunes and the still skip, try this. De-authorize the computer in iTunes/Advanced menu, then to re-authorize it. You re-authorize it by playing one of the songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store in iTunes. It should ask you for your Apple ID and password, then the computer will be authorized again. Sync you iPod with iTunes, and those songs should play again.
Another common cause of this is not having the latest version of iTunes. If you don't have the latest, you can get it from here.

  • Photostream skips random pictures

I'm trying to help a friend figure out a problem he's having with Photo Stream, but I'm not finding anything about other people having a similar issue. So I'm hoping someone here might have some insight.
Basically he upgraded both his iPhone 4 and iPad 2 to iOS 5 and started using iCloud and Photo Stream. For the most part its working fine. But the problem is that sometimes, random new pictures from his iPhone seem to get skipped when they're being pushed to his iPad. Most of the complaints in reading seem to be from people who can't get it to work at all, but in this case it's working as it should except that maybe 1 out of 20 pictures randomly fail to show up on his other devices.
I was just wondering if anyone else was having similar issues and might know what would cause it to skip random photos like that..
    Thanks!

I've got a similar problem (the other way round).  Photos added to iPhoto's Photostream get pushed to my iPhone 3GS, but never all of them and always different amounts.  Switching Photostream off and on again, I get 7 out of 10 pictures, off on again, I get 2 out of ten, etc.
I am still working on it, so can't tell you yet how to fix this.
PS. The Apple TV doesn't get any so far and iPhoto failed (DNS/network error) to upload some before turning it off and on again finally solved it for iPhoto.

  • My iPod screen has randomly stopped working?

So a while so my iPod screen has randomly striped working. I've tried everything. Restoring didn't help one bit and I don't have enough money to go in and get it looked at and get it fixed. I have talked to an apple professional and he was telling me it was a hardware issue. I was hoping I could do something on my open to fix it. I would really love if someone can help me out on this. :)

Sure sounds like a hardware problem to me. Not really anything you can do since I suspect it is a problem with the logic board, the most expensive part of the iPod.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $19 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • Why does my 16gb 6th generation ipod nano skip and stutter during playback?

Why does my 16gb 6th generation ipod nano skip and stutter during playback?

    Try a hard reset first.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button
until the screen goes dark. The Apple logo appears after a few seconds,
    and then the Home screen.
If that doesn't work, try a restore of the device in iTunes.
Otherwise, does this skipping and stuttering only happen with certain tracks?  What format are these tracks in and where they come from (outside of iTunes or from the iTunes store itself)?
