Try restoring the iPod via iTunes. First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. If your iPod is with in the one-year warrranty, not abused and defective Apple will replace it.

Why does my iPod Shuffle stop working after a few songs?

I had my iPod Shuffle for about a month now and it's already causing me trouble.
I would play a couple of songs, but when I go to change it, it stops working. I turn it off and on again only to have it take me back to where I started off at (e.g. Let's say I have 100 songs, I start at 50 and I get to 55 before it shuts off. When I turn it back on, it starts at 50 all over again). This process would happen over and over again with seemingly no end.
So my question is, why does my iPod Shuffle stop working after a few songs and how can I fix it?
I already tried using the iTunes troubleshooting guide, but nothing worked.

4th Generation
I only use it at the gym or when I'm running
I've only used the Apple products that came with it so far
(e.g. charger, headphones, etc.)
881 MB are still left
Music stops randomly, no common number or pattern

I had the same problem, I purchased a new ipod shuffle, followed the instructions but it would stop after a few songs and I would have to shut it off, wait and turn it back on and it would go back to the same song and then once again, after a few songs it would shut off. I returned the ipod and got another one, same thing happened. This is how I resolved the issue.
1. open itunes, make sure its up to date, then connect your shuffle to your pc
2.on the left of the itunes window, select your ipod, then at the top select music then check the sync box and select "selected playlists"
3.then go back and click on your ipod on the left, a message will appear just select apply
all of your music should be emptied from your ipod.
4.delete all of your playlists on the left, this will not delete anything from your library. Delete the "purchased" playlist under itunes store on the left as well, once again this will not delete anything from your library
5.There should be an arrow just in front of your ipod, click on this arrow and you should see your music file for the ipod appear, this should be the only file that you see, everything else should be deleted.
6. go to your music library and check only the songs that you want to load into your ipod. Double click on each song to make sure that they all play.
If you find a song that does not play you should be asked to authorize it, don't waste your time that did not solve the issue for me, instead cancel to authorize the song and then delete the song and move it to recycle bin. Once the song is deleted a cloud should appear, click on the cloud and download the song again, when done, make sure the song plays and that it is checked.
7.After you have made sure that all of the songs play and are checked, click on your ipod once more, located to the left, check the box "sync only checked songs" then from the top select music. In the music window select "sync music' and then select "entire music Library"
8. Go back to the left and click on the arrow in front of your ipod, you should see the music file, click on the music file and you should see all of your music being loaded to your ipod.
9. When all of the music is done loading, eject your ipod by clicking on the arrow located after the battery symbol where your ipod appears on the left
10. Turn on your ipod and scroll through your songs to make sure that the problem is resolved.
Not sure if all of this was necessary but it worked for me.

IPod Shuffle stop working after upgrade to iTunes 7.02

I upgrade to iTunes 7.02 after it prompted me so many times. My Ipod shuffle has 512MB, somehow iTunes 7.02 format it as 34GB, yes, 34GB!! I wouldn't mind it so much if it still works, but it doesn't.
What I have tried so far, I uninstall 7.02 and put back 6.05, still it shows 34GB. It does recognize the Ipod shuffle and allows me to put songs in it, except they don't play.
I download the Ipod shuffle reset utility, but it doesn't recognize the IPod. I am really bumped on this one, nothing to listen to on my long commute.

Hey man... I know what, you were right! I did some more research and ended up looking for any answaers on the Digidesign site. I downloaded the latest version of CoreAudio for my plataform (ProTools TDM Mix Plus with OS X 10.3.9) which is CoreAudio 6.9 and it seems to have solved all of my problems! At least iTunes and QT are opening again and seem to be working good so far. PT also seems to be runing with no problems!! Thanks again for the hint!

Ipod shuffle not working at all

I bought an ipod shuffle earlier this year and it has been working extremely well up until yesterday. There is a problem with my ipod shuffle. When I try to play the shuffle, the error light appears, and when I hook it up to my computer, it registers the shuffle but doesn’t open in itunes. Is there some way that I can fix this problem?

Ipod shuffle stopped working

I was listening to it and it just shut off. It's not the battery because there is no red light... no light at all. When I plugged it in to the computer, still no light. There is nothing, like it died. Last time this happened to one of my ipods it was because my computer shut off while the ipod was plugged in, I left it in all night by accident. This time, I didn't do that. So I don't know what is wrong. Anyone? Is it just dead?

Recently purchased the 3rd Generation iPod Shuffle (Not a serial number included in the replacement program). I have not been able to get through one workout with this product without it failing due to moisture. I bought this shuffle to replace a Nano that never failed during a workout but required the use of an armband. There is clearly something wrong with this product as this is the first iPod, Walkman, Rio, Portable CD player I've ever had that failed during a workout. I was drawn to the small size and I assume most others also purchased this product for exercising. I have also tried both the Belkin Adaptor ($20) and the iLuv Adaptor ($10) and both failed during the first workout as well... usually about 30 minutes before it flakes out. Do not buy this product if you intend to use it exercise with! This is a lemon and should be avoided.

Orange iPod shuffle stopped working

My autistic daughter's orange iPod shuffle worked perfectly for about 2 months... then wouldn't take a charge anymore. I get a green led indicator saying it's charged... but when I plug the headphones into the jack and push the play button... I get a blinking orange light...
When I plug it into the charger dock again... it appears as though it's needing another charge!
Is the battery bad? Is this common with the new iPod Shuffles???

okay umm first my original ipod shuffle charger dock broke and i had to go a while w/o my ipod and now i just bought a new charge. the ipod's charged now and i can still listen to music thats on it but i plug the USB into the commputer, it doesnt show up on itunes or my computer or device manager...

I have loaded most of my music library from Windows to iTunes, but now that I want to download the music onto my iPod Shuffle, the darn thing doesn't show up in what they call the Source Pane, so there is no way for me to load my music onto the Shuffle. I'm using iPod touch for a year now. It was doing fine this morning but in the afternoon suddenly when I took it out of my bag, the screen was just black and it wouldn't turn on and stuff. All you have to do is connect your new iPod to the computer that has the library for your old iPod.
When iTunes comes up, click on your new iPod under Devices.
At the top of the Summary Page click Music.
Click Synch Music.
Do the same thing for Photos, Apps, Movies and so on...
Now just synch the iPod.

- After charging or half an hour, reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Connect the iPod to the computer and if it shows in iTunes, restore the iPod via iTunes.
- See if placing the iPod in recovory mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:

- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you likely have a hardware problem.

My Ipod shuffle stops playing the song after a few seconds, i can skip to the next song but it happens again for every song..
the thing is its random, sometimes 5secs or 10 secs or at the most a whole minute
i have updated, restored, reinstalled an all that but i really dont want to send it back as im in afghanistan and would be weeks before i see it again an i use eveyday!! for running.. i thought maybe sweat had got inside it, its not the headphones i have already tried swapping them.
