Is there no sound period? I mean nothing through the headphones or the speaker? If the sound works only through the speaker or just through the headphones the switch inside the headphone port maybe stuck open. Try plugging and unplugging 10 to 12 times to unstick it. If no sound at all, go into Settings>Music>Volume Limit. See if it is turned on, if so check that the limit is not turned down to zero. If still not the problem try a soft reset, press and hold the power and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears, about 15 seconds, then release. if still no joy go into Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. If still no joy, connect to iTunes via the cable and Restore to backup. If that doesn't work Restore to new. Just remember to save all your stuff that can be wiped before you restore, pictures, music, contacts etc. If none of this works, then maybe a hardware issue contact Apple Genius Bar or store and have your iPod evaluated. Go to Settings, iCloud, and then Storage and Backup. You will then see a button to backup your iPad. It may be that you have much stuff (i.e. photos, apps) for it to do a full backup but you will be able to tell what the estimated backup should be and what it will consist of so that you can choose to prune down items. If you don't want to backup and get rid of the messages you can just turn backup off from this area as well.

I have two yahoo accounts and I know as they 'improved' their servers I had periodic outages. It'd work fine on my webmail on my computer, webmail on the iPad, but not via the mail app. And it was stuff on their end. It may be a case of wait and see and you may need to eventually remove/readd the account on your iPhone.
When the issue is on their end, unfortunately there's not much for users to do beyond wait it out or find work arounds.

Why can't I attach files using Yahoo email? I've clicked on 'Attach files more easily' and nothing happens. With all other browsers, I have no issues attaching files.

I want to attach Word files to some of my yahoo emails. Instead of the word 'attach' like on all other browsers, Fierfox wants me to click on 'Attach files more easily' and download this. Nothing happens leaving me unable to use Firefox if I wish to use my yahoo email and send attachments, files or pics.

The only way I can open a PDF is to launch the Reader X software and click "open files" from there. Obviously, this doesn't help me since I need to email PDFs to clients, and printing 'n faxing isn't an option.

Well if the same problem happens to all your ipods, it makes me suspect that there is something wrong with your headphones, as it would be a strange coincidence that all the ipods have the same problem.
Unless the ipods have the same problem with different headphones!

1st gen iPod touch has lost it's volume control

After last update my iPod has lost it's volume control. I've tried everything I can think of - including doing a complete wipe and reinstall.
I've tested with several different headphones, incl Apples own, a pair of Skullcandy and a pair of Sennheiser.
No matter what I plug in the volume is extremely low, and I have no way of turning it up.
I've tried starting a playlist and then leave the music in the background. Then normally double-tapping the home button brings up music controls. That does happen, but there are no volume controls. Also there is no "Dock Connector" label in the control box.
What can I do?

I'm suffering from the same frustrating problem. One thing that worked for me for a week was to go into settings->General and change the sound effects to just come out of headphones. Until recently it's been an intermittent issue, but now appears to be solid. Like you, I've tried with a variety of headphones and nothing happens apart from getting really quiet music playing (barely audible). It's almost as if the volume limit is being set really low.

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
