My itunes will not open. It shows to be open in Task Manager but will not open.

I have tried the Quicktime Fix that was recommended but it did not help. I also cannot shut down the itunes process in Task Manager.

Doublechecking. Have you worked through the following troubleshooting document?

  • I updated win7 and now I cant see ff. I have reinstalled it 5 times now. It shows it is running in task manager but it is not visible on the desk top.

I installed win7 ultimate and then ff. ff worked fine until I installed win7 service pack 1 and all the other updates it recommended. I click to open ff and nothing happens. I look in task manager and it shows it is running. It is not visible on the screen or in the task bar. I have reinstalled a fresh download of it 5 times. I even tried the beta version but still the same problem. I can use explorer and chrome ok but not ff.

The "System Tray" is located at the very bottom right of your screen and is a list of most/all running applications that will show in this list.
For your SysFader issue, this "may" be the problem:
1 Find the "My Computer" desktop icon and right-click it. A pull-down menu will appear. Select "Properties."
2 Click on the "Advanced" tab. This will load a new page of options.
3 Select the "Visual Effects" tab at the top of the window and deselect "Animate Windows when minimizing and maximizing," "Fade or slide menus into view," "Fade or slide Tool Tips into view" and "Fade out Menu items after checking."
4 Click "OK." This will remove most if not all of the Sysfader effects, at the same time correcting related errors that used to come up during opening a new file or program.

    Hi M0M1!
I have an article for you that seems to describe your issue and can provide some helpful troubleshooting steps for this issue:
iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1717
Specifically, you will want to focus on this section of the article:
    User-specific troubleshooting
If you experience the issue in one particular user account, the suggestions below may resolve the issue. Before proceeding, you'll need to make hidden files and folder visible in Windows using steps 1-5.
Remove iTunes Preference files. Some of the files that iTunes stores settings and preferences in may be unusable. iTunes saves its preferences in two folders. Move one of them to the desktop and test to see if the issue persists. If it does, move it back and remove the second folder. The locations for the preference folders are:
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    Create a new iTunes Library.
Hold the Shift key while opening iTunes. You'll be asked to choose an iTunes library.
    Choose Create Library.
In the following window, select a location to save the new iTunes Library.
Click Save. iTunes will open the new library. After you close iTunes, you can always select the original library by holding the Shift key while opening iTunes.
Recreate your iTunes Library. If your iTunes library has become unusable, rebuilding it may resolve the issue.
Check for issues with content files. Sometimes an audio file can cause iTunes to quit unexpectedly or stop responding when it's analyzing gapless playback information. To determine which file may be causing the issue, follow the steps below:
    Quit iTunes.
    Navigate to the iTunes folder:
    Windows Vista: c:\users\username\Music\iTunes
    Windows 7 and Windows 8: c:\users\username\My Music\iTunes
Move the iTunes Library.itl file to your desktop.
Open iTunes. You shouldn't see any content in iTunes.
Choose File > Add Folder to Library.
Navigate to the folder where your music is located:
    Windows Vista: c:\users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
    Windows 7 and Windows 8: c:\users\username\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
Choose an artist, album, or song to add to the library.
Wait for iTunes to successfully add the item to your library and perform the gapless playback scan.
If successful, continue adding songs to your library.
If there is an issue with one of your files, you'll notice your issue reappear after you add it to the library. You should repeat these steps, being careful not to add the files that caused the issue.
Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!

  • Installed Adobe dlm add-on and now Firfox will not open. I see the process starting in Task Manager but no window opens. Unistalled Firefox then re-installed but still no luck. HELP ME!

I installed Adobe dlm add-on and now Firefox will not open. I see the process starting in Task Manager but no window opens. Unistalled Firefox then re-installed but still no luck. HELP ME! I do not want to use IE! I presume it has something to do with Adobe DLM as ever since then it is not working.

I had this problem for a couple weeks as well and it was extremely frustrating considering we use firefox for all our company tasks. Here is the solution:
First of all if you have no bookmarks you want to save, then go directly to step 7. If you want to save your bookmarks first, then follow these steps.
    1. Shut down the computer
    2. Reboot and open firefox
    3. Go to Task Manager, right click firefox.exe, and click END PROCESS TREE
    4. WAIT 30 SECONDS! Then Double-click the shortcut to try and open firefox again
5.Repeat steps 3 and 4 until firefox finally opens (trust me, eventually it will)
    6. Once it finally opens, backup your bookmarks,
    7. Download a copy of firefox from there website
    8. Uninstall from programs menu and make sure to check the box REMOVE ALL COMPONENTS
    9. install the new copy and BOOM! it works
If it doesn't work, you're an idiot. If you don't want to reinstall firefox, then you're out of luck. Good Luck!

  • Firefox opens in task manager but does not display.

This morning my Firefox stopped working and I had to end task. Afterwards when trying to restart Firefox the firefox process will open under task manager but nothing displays on the screen. I've tried ending all firefox processes and restarting my pc. I also tried creating a new profile under the firefox, exe -manageprofile command. When I created the new profile and ran under it I had the exact same problem. I tried running under safe mode and I get the pop up telling me that mozila is running under safe mode with the check box's for clearing settings but there is still no window displayed and when clicking continue in safe mode the pop up box goes away and I'm left with nothing once again. I tried running the firefox setup freshly downloaded in an attempt to repair the setup of sorts but this had no effect.
I also did a short search of the forum for any soloutions but so far haven't found anything. If anyone could suggest some more things to try before I do a complete wipe of Firefox using CCleaner.
Also in the event I use CCleaner I'd like to back up my bookmarks first so if anyone knows a start parameter to back up bookmarks or even what file the bookmarks are stored (already found a forum topic on the saved passwords file) in and if copying that file into a new installation will work please let me know.
Regards to any one who can assist.

  • FF shows on the task bar shows running on task manager but I can not maximize it

FF shows on the task bar shows running on task manager but I can not maximize it.

Can you try starting Firefox in Safe Mode. To do that, hold down SHIFT while you click the desktop shortcut or quick launch icon. Then click the '''Continue without making changes''' button.
If it works in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, maybe after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

  • ITunes running as a process in Task Manager but not opening up

    Hi all
I got an iPod nano a week ago, and since I installed the CD for the iPod on my computer, iTunes doesn't open. I removed QT and iTunes and the iPod updater and reinstalled them, but to no avail.
I took my computer to the local Apple store and they tried to help me, but again to no avail.
For some reason, iTunes.exe and iTuneshelper.exe are both running as processes when I doubleclick the icon on my desktop, but the physical program doesn't open, thus I am unable to update my iPod and put any music on it.
Anybody come across this problem and know a solution?

First uninstall iTunes and quicktime, scan the system for viruses and then scan for malware using Ewido http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Disable antivirus and any other security programs you have, download the latest iTunes from www.apple.com and install it.
If this doesn't work try to see if you can open the quicktime program, If you can't install the stand alone version of quicktime to see if it will fix the issue http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
Also goto the PC makers site and download any patches they may offer revolving around iTunes, alot of PC makers like HP have some models that have issues with iTunes and offer patches to fix it

  • ITunes 11.1 running in Task Manager but does NOT Open

I have looked areound and no one seems to be having this problem (that I can tell).
My problem started when I upgraded to iTunes 11.1 running Windows 8. When I tried to open iTunes, it never opens but if I open the Task Manager I can see it running (32-bit) with a couple other Apple programs. I have downloaded with both Firefox and Chrome.
I have tried the following things:
Completely uninstalled iTunes following the steps outline by Apple (included checking all folders for files).  Same thing happened when I re-installed.
Tried to install as the Administrator.
Tried to run using Windows 7 compatibility
Refreshed my computer (erases and resets everything minus personal files) and installed iTunes 11.1 before anything. Did not work.
Once or twice it would open but as soon as I closed and tried to re-open iTunes, same thing. Never opens but running in Task Manager.
I have no idea what to do next and am running iTunes 11.1 on an OLD desktop that is not sustainable.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Firefox opens according to my task manager, but will not appear on my desktop.

My windows XP computer refuses to show Firefox on my desktop. Task Manager shows firefox.exe active and using about 43 meg of memory. I have tried Firefox 4 and Firefox 3.6.
Using XP sp3 on this computer. Have scanned using Avast AV and Malwarebytes. I have 4 gig of memory on this computer.
I do not receive any error messages.

Could be a problem with your Firewall. Eliminate all references to Firefox and Plug-in container. The Firewall should ask for permission and re-set if Firefox starts. Try disabling Firewall and Anti-virus briefly.
Try starting in Safe Mode - Hold Shift key down as you double click on your Firefox desktop icon> don't check anything on the page that opens>Continue. Actually this is probably the best place to start.
If Fx works in Safe Mode you probably have a problem with one of your extensions or a conflict. Remember that all sorts of things have been up-dated as well as Firefox.
Along the way make sure your Plug-ins(like Flash) are up-to-date.
Be suspicious of third-party toolbars and try disabling them.
This won't be the specific problem but if you get Firefox going you should try disabling Hardware Acceleration to see if it runs better - Options>Advanced>General>browsing>uncheck "Use Hardware Acceleration . . . If it does run better you should update your graphics card.
This is the standard troubleshooting you may have to work through -
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting%20extensions%20and%20themes
Another suggestion you may get, certainly when all else fails, is to download a new full Firefox installer to your desktop. Uninstall your old Firefox, don't delete your preferences etc; and then install your new Firefox.

  • Firefox will not open, it is not running in the task manager, but when I click on the icon, it will not open a firefox screen.

I have tried uninstalling the program, so that i could re-install it, but during the uninstall it says i have to close the currently open firefox page, But there is no page opne. There is no page in the lower left corer of my screen, and when i opne task manger, it does not say that firefox is running. I have tried updateing firefox on the website, but during the update it says the same thing, that firefox is running, and i need to close it. I can not get firefox to opne, and i hate using internet explorer, PLEASE HELP!!

In the Task Manager, make sure to check both the Applications tab and the Processes tab. On the Processes tab, Firefox may have two different components running: firefox.exe and plugin-container.exe. Well, in 3.5.11, it would be only the first one.

  • Firefox won't start properly. The process begins in task manager, but the program doesn't start.I have restarted the computor, and updated my plug-ins. Don't know what to do next. It will open in safe mode, but not regularly.

When we click on the icon to start firefox even though the process opens in task manager, the program screen doesn't open

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • New Upgrade has Itunes running in Task Manager but not starting...

I know this is an issue that has been addressed on many other forums as I have been searching for the answer since I downloaded ITunes 8*.
The install seems to work but when I start it up it does nothing. The Task Manager shows it as running in Processes but that is it.
I have already tried the "msconfig" fix. The "corrupt library" fix and I have already confirmed that my firewall isn't stopping it.
Please help it seems that I may be stuck at Version 7.43 for awhile.

odd combination of symptoms you've got there. the "flash" of the license screen usually suggests malware ... but the persistence of itunes.exe in Task Manager suggests dodgy configuration files, or security software interferences.
will go with the latter "persistence" symptom first. if you've got Norton Internet Security 2005 on the PC, first try the Lorraine M technique:
    Lorraine M: NIS/itunes problem rectified
... but if NIS 2005 isn't a factor, let's check on this possibility:
iTunes for Windows doesn't open after upgrading
(may not be back to check on this for a while. i've got about a 100-reply-notification backlog, and i'm going to have to get some sleep before attending to that.)

  • ITunes shows in Task Manager but doesn't run

I was having an issue where my iTunes would start and show as a process running in Windows Task Manager, however, the GUI interface would never show up. I could end the process, but restarting the application led me to the sam state I was in before; the process was there, but no iTunes.
I am running Windows XP Media Centre 2005 edition with rollup 2, 2Gb of RAM, AVG AntiVirus, all the latest MS patches and Windows Defender all up-to-date. Stopping all the anti virus and anti-malware programs didn't help. Reinstalling iTunes did nothing, and installing the stand-alone version of QuickTime did not work either.
I searched many an archived article to find the particular solution that worked for me, and I have linked to it below.

Hope this helps someone in the future. It was a very frustrating exercise, to say the least.

  • Firefox shows in task manager, but won't open

Firefox doesn't open, though it opens once in a while. It shows in task manager and takes up 50% CPU usage, and ending process and retrying doesn't work. Profile manager doesn't open either. There's no error message, and have restarted laptop (Windows XP) many times, but no results.
    Help would be appreciated!

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
