My laptop has a virus and i need to crash it. I know that i will loose all my itunes music...is there a way i can save it before i crash my laptop?
Somehow my laptop has gotten a virus and now I need to crash it and start over. I have over 3,000 songs
on itunes and DO NOT want to loose it all! I have had to crash my pc before and it has taken me a very
long time to get all my music back. Is there anyway I can save my music on itunes? Like maybe to a
flashdrive? If anyone out there can help me, I would be so very thankful!
Hello fredibreur,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information, take a look at:
iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Media folder
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1364
if you just want to move all those music and media files to another hard drive on your system, here's a way to make the move while retaining all your playlists, ratings, and play history.
Have a nice day,
Mario

Ok i needed to flush my computer because i had a virus and i had to delete all my music is there a way i can get the library from my ipod onto the new itunes i downloaded because i dont want to have to download all the songs again
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases -
Hi i have an I pod and i had used it as hard disk also. Now when ever i connect it with my Laptop it shows restore to factory setting....i wanted to knwo is there any way i can save the data which i had already stored in the I pod. I dont want to loose that data???
sure pretty simple. make a backup of your current settings
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US
then restore device from old backup you need pics off of
then import pics to computer
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
you may need to save pics to camera roll first
then restore the new backup and sync pics back to phone via itunes

I no longer have the iTunes that is synced to my iPhone and now I need to update my iPhone with iTunes. Is there a way I can do this without losing all my data? Can I access my iTunes that is on my stolen laptop, so that I don't lose my info and photos etc? Please help!
Hi Michela27,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you have content on your iPhone that isn't on your computer, the best thing is to use the advice in this article to transfer it to your new computer before setting up sync:

I was syncing everything to itunes and I tried to do my contacts, not knowing quite how. I ended up erasing all of them from my phone without any of them syncing to my computer or itunes. Is there any way I can get them back? I really need them all.
There are lots of ideas floating on the web for this particular issue - all of which I tried. I had the same problem and it turned out to be my USB cable. I thought the cable was fine as it would charge my phone and play but the data transfer pin was bent. I replaced the cable and it fixed the problem. Worth a shot as it is an easy fix!

How do I save and import my bookmarks from another hard drive? When I try to open the installed Firefox on the old drive, it (obviously) opens a browser from the new main drive, free of bookmarks. Is there a way I can save the bookmarks on the old drive without opening a browser?
The guts of my computer were rearranged and I got a new main hard drive. My old one is still in there and I can get stuff from it, but when I go to the Mozilla folder on the old one, I can't figure out if there's anything I can do to get all my bookmarks from that drive to my new one, where Firefox is newly installed. If you open Firefox then Firefox will always use the default profile folder as found via profiles.ini on your system drive.
You either need to import the file in your current default profile or copy the file to your current profile folder while Firefox is closed.
Firefox 3 stores the bookmarks and the browser history in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/places.sqlite places.sqlite] and no longer creates an HTML backup by default.
There are also (five) JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder within the Firefox profile folder.
You can either copy the file places.sqlite to your [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] or import the most recent JSON backup from the bookmarkbackups folder of that old profile.
See:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Backing_up_and_restoring_bookmarks_-_Firefox
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
"Application Data" in XP/Win2K and "AppData" in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
Go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > "View" tab > under "Hidden files and folders", select "Show hidden files and folders".
You may want to un-check the box "Hide extensions for known file types" to see the file extensions of all files. -
I am unable to update my IPhone 4 to the IOS 6. I managed to back up and transfer and then when it asked to update I said yes and the sync process started, left it overnight and it came up with an error if continue you will loose all your data. So stopped! Help!
Are you currently on ios 4? If so that's where the backup comes in. You'll need to restore your backup once the software is updated.

My 7 year old daughter has an iPod Touch 4 and she used the wrong password too many times. She thinks she remembers her password now but we have already exceeded the attempts and it says "iPod is disabled" connect to iTunes. Is there any way we can get the device to allow another attempt? We are traveling this week so don't have access to the serial number or the computer that was used to originally set up her iTouch. I don't even know what operating system it's on and can only see the home screen.
Restoring the iPod will do nothing to his iPhone.
When you restore it wipes the iPod clean no matter what computer you use.
The only plus to doing it form your home computer is if you have a backup stored there, then you can restore from the backup once it's done wiping.
If you are away form your home computer, go ahead and use the computer you have to restore it, then when you get home, you can restore form any backup you may find. You can use this to help you do that when you get there: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 -
i have iphoto 8.1.2 .If i buy and instal iphoto 9.5.1 does that mean that i will loose all my folders and files?
LarryHN wrote:
Unfortunately the facts contradict your opinions - the facts are that Apple has stated that iPhoto can continue to be used and that you can seamlessly migrate form iPhoto to photos - you are telling people to do and not do things based on your personal opinions
Uh, perhaps you should learn to read what was actually written.
What did I tell anyone to do/not do?
What was my "opinion"?
I wrote, "However, note that iPhoto is going away, soon to be replaced soon by the new Photos app".
the facts are that Apple has stated that iPhoto can continue to be used and that you can seamlessly migrate form iPhoto to photos
I never suggested, hinted or stated otherwise...
Are you stating that Apple is going to continue on with iPhoto & it is NOT going to be replaced by the Photos app?
and how does all this help the OP? -
I scanned an image and want to use the image trace tool, but it doesn't pick up all the lines. Is there a way to darken the lines before using the image trace tool? Help!
If the scan is in B&W, then play with the Threshold setting here
If it's in Color, then you will have to open the scan in a Raster editing software (like Photoshop) and play with the Brightness/Contrast settings to make the lines bolder. -
I have an ipod nano and would like to sync it to a new computer but when I try to do it, it tells me that i will loose all my music and pictutes in my nano to be replaced with what I have on itunes. can anybody help?

Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device: Apple Support Communities
Basically you will have to transfer its contents to the new computer and then restore the iPod and then resync. An iPod can only sync to one iTunes library.
BTW you posted in the iPod touch forum. -
