My laptops mic jack isn't working

Need help my microphone jack doesn't seem to work its a satellite c655d-s5088

Try reinstalling the sound driver.
Conexant Audio Driver(v4.119.0.61; 04-15-2010; 38.24M)
Also, try plugging your mic in and out a few times just to make sure there isn't dust in the jack that's causing a problem.

    Hi Mr.Acevedo329!
I have an article here for you that can help you troubleshoot the issues you are experiencing. That article can be found right here:
iPod troubleshooting basics and service FAQ
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1382
Specifically, you will want to take note of this section:
    The headphones don't work
If your iPod's headphones don't work or have static or garbled audio, try connecting them to any other 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack, like the one on your computer. If the issue with the headphones persists, replace them. For an iPod under warranty, you can order a replacement online. Otherwise, check out the cool headphones at the Apple Online Store. If the issue appears to be with the iPod, try resetting it. If that doesn't work, then restore iPod with the latest iPod software using iTunes 7 or later.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

do i have to send my iPod in if the headphone jack isn't working?

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R".
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • No microphone jack and my headphone jack isn't working. N858

I just got a Lenovo N585, and I've got to say it's one confusing laptop, at least for me. Well I tried plugging in my headphones into the head phone jack, and its works externally, but there is no sound coming out of my head phones. I am wondering if theres some program I have to run to make it work correctly. Also why is there not a microphone jack?

    Hi Awkwardness2,
Thanks for posting and Welcome to Lenovo Community,
the machine has combo audio jack ,which is 1 socket for the speakers and the microphone
you need to buy a new headphone with combo audio jack or get an adapter to fix this issue
let me know if that fix the issue or not
    Regards,

  • Headphone and mic jacks do not work

I disabled the onboard audio drivers to install an Audigy 2ZS board in my new Dimension 900. Now the Dell factory installed mic and headphone jacks on the front of the computer do not work. I'm assuming thats because I disabled the onboard drivers? Any way to get them working with the 2ZS card? I understand that the mic and headphone jacks have cables that can be hooked to a card. Does the 2ZS support this kind of hookup?
    Thanks

    Hey everyone
It's very possible to connect your front jacks to Audigy. I'm currently using my headphones that way.
    Here is what you do:
. On top you audigy card
    <IMG src="http://images0.fotki.com/v203/photos//2786/2503093/CreativeAudigy2ZS-vi.jpg">
    2. Audigy pin assignments (connect you front panel cable to things marked in red)
    AUDIGY FRONT PANEL CONNECTIONS======================================= =========================
    - Analog Ground< 2 - Headphone Out (Left) 3 - Audio Backpanel Mute -- mute (ground) the backpanel when using headphones< 4 - Headphone Out (Right) 5 - same as #3< 6 - Mic Input 7 - key pin (shouldn't be there) 8 - VREF out -- voltage reference for Mic 9 - MIC IN MUTE -- ground when mic isn't plugged in, +2VDC when mic is plugged in0 - Audio cable detect -- will be ground when headphones are plugged in (not used)
I'm still working out the kinks. For instance, if you've ever had an Audigy Dri've (comes with Platinum and Pro version of Audigy), you know that when you plug in headphones, sound to speakers mutes and Creative Speaker Settings panel automatically switches to "Headphones". That was nice. I don't know if it's possible this way.
    Enjoy,
    Igor

  • Dell laptop headphone jack does not work when playing audio and video in Firefox 27

My problem is similar to the one posted in this thread: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/986978?esab=a&s=laptop+headphones+don%27t+work+with+firefox&r=2&fpa=1&as=s
I believe it has little to nothing to do with extensions.
I have just installed Firefox 27 on the Dell Inspiron 3520 laptop of a friend. She is an unsophisticated user who has a computer for email, simple web browsing, and watching YouTube and other online videos. Because she frequently seems to end up with junk on her machine, I wanted to switch her over to Firefox so I could install ad and script blockers that would hopefully slow down the frequency of adware and malware roosting in her system.
The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 3520 with an Intel celeron CPU (64-bit), running Windows 8. There are standard end-user applications installed (Adobe Reader, VLC Media Player, etc.), but no tweaking utilities, etc. The audio drivers are Cirrus Logic High Definition Audio.
I've been troubleshooting the laptop today trying to track down why the integrated speakers continue to work when the headphones are plugged in, with no sound coming through the headphones. Because I had run a series of virus / malware / adware scans just before installing Firefox, I thought I had mistakenly deleted some system audio files.
It finally became clear after toggling multiple settings, playing with Windows and Dell sound settings, and experimenting, that the headphone audio jack still works as it should in the system itself (for example, playing videos through VLC Media Player) and in Internet Explorer. It is only in Firefox that plugging in the headphones does not send audio through the headphones nor cut out the integrated speakers.
Sometimes there is a silencing of the integrated speakers for a few seconds, but then the audio kicks in again. (I am using YouTube and a certain movie streaming website to test the audio).
However, if the headphones are plugged in before starting the videos, the sound comes through the headphones, but unplugging the headphones, then reinserting them, stimulates problem again. Not only that, but then in YouTube the video will stall and can't be restarted until the page is reloaded.
Again, this is a fresh Firefox install of less than 24 hours, with only Adblock, Adblock Plus Pop-up Addition, Flashblock, and NoScript installed. There are no themes installed and most of the Options are the defaults that are set upon installation.
I have both disabled the add-ons and uninstalled them entirely before testing the headphone funtionality. In both instances the problem persisted. I've also uninstalled and let Windows re-install the Cirrus audio drivers.
Does anyone else have any insight into this problem, and any potential solutions other than "start in Safe Mode" and "reset Firefox"?

Firefox can switch audio devices within ~ a + or - 10 minute period or so (Just a guess). At which point it latches onto the audio device and will never change until the entire process is shutdown (read last paragraph, there is an exception)
Ive had this problem for a few months now, at least. And I switch back and forth from my sound system and my wireless USB headset.
If anything will fix this i believe it would be disabling "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" in the properties of your default audio device, but i doubt it. I think this is an issue regarding the code in firefox itself.
I'd like to see this turned into a default feature, being able to disable and enable the ability to stay on whichever device was the default at the time of launch, or to always play on the current default device, even if its changed. That or being able to choose a specific device/devices (WOULD LOVE TO THIS).
Other than that I dont really have a solution, and I kind of doubt anyone will unless its addressed in the next update.
Oh I thought of one solution that doesnt require restarting firefox, disable the current audio device and the sound will automatically switch to the next available device. Or possibly when a new device is introduced?? I havent done much testing on the matter though. This is just my best guess based on my personal experience with firefox.

  • My microphone line-in jack isn't working.

I want to use an external microphone for online gaming conversations. I have a headset with both mic and earphones. I can hook the earphone jack up and can hear fine, however when i hook the microphone jack i can't get it to work.
Yes, i have gone into system preferences/sound/input and selected the line-in tab. Nothing is letting me use an external mic. (although the internal mic works fine)
The funny thing is, when i boot into Windows XP, i can use the headset perfectly fine, both microphone and headphones.
    What's the deal?

I found some information on Apples Web site that may shed some light on this subject. The link below has more info.
The last line may indicate the problem, also I found somewhere some mic's need their own power source. Look around on the Apple site it gives that information also.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=43019
To turn on the microphone and use it as the sound input device, follow these steps:
    1. From the Apple menu, open the Monitors & Sound control panel.
    2. Click the Sound button.
    3. From the Sound Monitoring Source pop-up menu, choose Built-in Mic or External Mic.
    4. Click the close box to close the control panel.

Important: Some microphones will not work properly without the use of a third-party sound recording application.

  • IPod Touch Headphone Jack Isn't Working?

I own the original iPod Touch, I have had it for about 9 months, and out of nowhere the other day, I plugged my headphones in to listen, and I could only hear some of the instruments, and no vocals. At first I thought it was my headphones, but then I tried several other pairs, and none of them worked either. However, when I plugged it into an iPod Docking Station through the connector (not the headphone jack) it worked fine, so I know it's a problem with my iPod's headphone jack.
Any suggestions on how I could fix this?
    Message was edited by: Flimboe

If you bought it new only 9 months ago, which I think would be a little difficult, you can send it in to Apple or take it to an Apple Store (make a Genius Bar appointment first) and get it serviced under warranty. If it is out of warranty you can try a 3rd party repair site such as http://www.iresq.com or use Google to find other such sites. If you are the DIY type try http://www.ifixit.com and look at the pictures/videos on how to disassemble the iPod and replace the headphone jack.

  • Help! My Ipod Video Headphone Jack isn't working!

Hey guys. My Ipod video has starting messing up in the jack so that it doesn't play right in the right ear regardless of what headphones I use. Is this a common problem and any idea how to fix it or how much it costs to fix it and where I go?

The best place to go is an Apple store ,if it is under warranty will no fees.
If do not have an Apple store close to you, go to an authorized dealer.
I think its a minor issue may be the jack connector
    good luck

  • My headphone jack isn't working.

Whenever I plug in my headphones or the auxilary cable, it does not work. How can I fix this?
It works when I connect the usb cable to the car, I can still hear music when I plug it in through the usb cable. I've tried using two separate auxilary cables, two different cars and my headphones and that part of the iPod is still not working.

    1. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    2. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    3. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
        Plug in the headphone.
Unmute if it is muted. Adjust the volume if you can.

  • Nomad Zen 20g - Headphone jack isn't work

Does anyone know where and/or how I could get the headphone jack on my Zen fixed? I love the player but need to keep jiggling the headphone jack to hear the music. Thanks!

Unfortunately this is a design flaw on many of the older model ZEN jukebox players. The contacts on the circuit board where the headphone jack connects come loose and cause the headphone jack to separate from the board. The only way to fix it is with a careful re-solder job, that is, if you don't want to send it back to Creative for an expensive repair job.
Here's a really good step-by-step article complete with pictures showing how to reaffix the headphone port to the board:

  • Internal Mic and Bluetooth not working together at the same time

Okay.. so I've been noticing this happen alot lately. Whenever I have my usb wacom tablet plugged in (which is almost always), there would be no internal mic input and bluetooth would become "not unavailable". Also, even when I try an external mic, there was no input. Could this be a coincidence or some related usb-bluetooth problem? Could it be my audio input or tablet driver problem?
I've used my mic to skype before I had installed the tablet. Also before I used garage band to record my sister's guitar with an external mic, there was no problem at all, and of course I didn't have my tablet plugged in at the time. Recorded a whole hours worth of music, and didn't have any problems.
Today.. I checked to see if my internal mic was working before I launched skype, and it was working perfectly, and I also noticed my bluetooth was available (didn't test it though). Then I went on skype talked to friend for about 20min, and suddenly the audio stop working. I had my tablet plugged in from earlier today. I restarted my macbook (with no tablet plugged in) and still mic input isn't working. I tried and external mic, but still nothing. I tried uninstalling skype, still nothing.
This is not the first time this happened, I noticed it would somehow fix itself after a few days every time, and mic and bluetooth would start working again out of nowhere. Which makes it even more weird.
    Need help pleaseee!
PS. I tried getting someone to fix it before(a few months ago- I don't really use my mic or bluetooth much), but when I brought it in and started up my mac, at that time it was working again. But now it isn't working =(

UPDATE: I just noticed my bluetooth was no longer "unavailable", so I quickly went into system preferences, and noticed that my internal mic input had some input! Very weak though, only 1-2 bars. So what does this mean?

  • If you have an X-Fi, 4+GB RAM and a non-functioning Mic jack look h

If your X-Fi mic jack doesn't work and you have 4+ GB of RAM it is likely due to a bug in the X-Fi driver set related to this hardware combination. In order to test it, simply remove memory modules until you have less then 4GB of RAM see if your mic works.
I found the issued described in?a random forum after my seventh bout with?Creative customer support over the span of a month. It does not seem that Creative?customer support is aware of this so if you are affected by it please do as I did and drop customer support an email tactfully describing the issue and ask them to have the driver dev team look into it. A flaming tirade to support via email/phone/forum will likely not help get us any assistance (sorry for stating the obvious, some people just don't understand that). There is a modified driver set from a third party available?on the net?that you can find if you search for it. I am using?them and?they fixed the issue for me, but I am not going to post?the link?here as I am unsure if that will get this post deleted or not. You should be able to find it pretty easily if you search for it. If you do decide to find it and use it until Creative fixes the issue I'd suggest you use a virus scanner prior to installing. It checked out fine to me but you can never be too careful. Cheers!

    Hi Jaegar,
To my knowledge, there are no PCI-X or PCI Extended graphics cards for Macs. There are PCIe or PCI Express graphics cards for Macs, but those only work in the PCIe Power Mac G5s.
If you go with a PCI graphics card, you'll be limited to 133MBps @ 33MHz, 32-bit. This is quite a bottleneck for 3D graphics.
The Power Mac G5 never shipped with the Radeon 9200 Mac Edition (PCI) standard. The least powerful card they came with was a GeForce FX 5200 Ultra or Radeon 9600. If you're indeed using a Radeon 9200, I recommend attaching your main monitors that need 3D graphics power to the AGP primary card and monitors that only hold palettes and other 2D stuff to your Radeon 9200 secondary card.
If you're unsure what you have for graphics cards, go to Apple Menu > About This Mac > More Info... That will open up System Profiler. Go to the Graphics/Displays section and your graphics cards should be listed.
Video editing in Final Cut Pro is CPU bound. A faster GPU may or may not help. The same goes for Photoshop as it is a 2D app that can generate images with 3D effects.
If you do get a faster graphics card, aim for more GPU muscle before thinking about video RAM. Without enough GPU power, large amounts of video RAM won't help.
I'm still a Photoshop newbie, but my understanding is that Photoshop is a raster app. That is, each pixel is painted on a page. That's responsible for jaggies. In vector apps, lines are drawn with calculations, so you see perfectly smooth lines even if you zoom in. One way to partially get around this is to draw antialiased lines.
