My latest CC Installation experience

Just some comments about my recent experience installing CC.  I already have CC on other machines, but decided to do a complete installation from scratch on a brand new iMac running Mavericks 10.9.2, to see if the process had changed/got better since previous installations.  I am based in Sydney Australia.
All other software I installed on the iMac worked quickly and as expected, including over 4GB of updates for Apple OS and software.  My internet connection is reliable and did not interrupt any of the other installations.  The Apple software, in particular, downloaded incredibly quickly - about 2 hours for all 4GB.  Microsoft Office updates were a bit slow but all done within 30 minutes.  Microsoft's "Flip4Mac" wmv components for Quicktime was very slow to download, as was a CUDA driver from NVIDIA.
But the CC installer was fraught with delays, mis-steps and problems.  All Adobe downloads were excruciatingly slow - from the outset with the initial CC Installer (30 minutes), and then much worse with the applications themselves.  The After Effects download failed 4 times, and had to re-start the download from scratch on 3 of those 4 occasions. When it failed part-way through a download, it would just wait for user interaction rather than restarting the download.
After several hours of watching this comedy of errors, I decided to just download standalone installers of After Effects and Photoshops.  Googling "Adobe CC standalone installers"  takes you to
Download a free trial or buy Adobe products | Adobe downloads
You use the "Try" button for each application on this page to go to a specific download page for the application trial.  But the "Try" buttons on many of the applications on this page are dead links: in particular, After Effects and Photoshop.
And so, the only thing left was to babysit the CC application manager for hours.  Eventually it took 9 hours for After Effects to download.  After that, it took another 3 hours for Illustrator, Bridge and Photoshop combined - much more acceptable time frame, but also kind of slow.
We commonly see complaints about the install process over in the After Effects forum, and I've generally been fairly dismissive of them, but I've got to say this has been an eye opener.  If my experience is common, it's no wonder people get annoyed.
Was the process slowed by the forums downtime over the past two days?  (It shouldn't be, I imagine.)  Is there a problem with the Adobe download servers (Akamai, I believe?) and their speed capabilities?  Is this problem location-specific for Australian users?  And can someone address the dead links on the Downloads page?

Andrew Yoole the experience you had is not expected.  Are you on a managed network?  If not I would recommend reviewing Sign in, activation, or connection errors | CC, CS6, CS5.5 - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-network-issues.html for several common configuration issues which could affect the stability of your download.
As an alternative please see Download New Adobe CC Trials: Direct Links (no Assistant/Manager) | ProDesignTools which provides information on how to download the base installers directly through your web browser.  If you continue to experience slow downloads via a direct download then I would recommend utilizing an alternate Internet connection or contact your Internet Service Provider.

  • Install fails because of SA password - horrible installer experience

I'm really disappointed in the installer experience for SQL Server Express. I was prompted to enter a SA password. I did. It went through the download, installed, asked me to reboot, etc, and ended at a failure. Why? Because my SA password wasn't strong
enough. Why in the heck didn't it tell me that when it prompted?

    Hi,
Antivirus software or password policy check failure could make the installation failed.
I suggest you disable the antivirus software and follow the below steps to disable the password policy enforcement feature, then try install again, also check the setup log if installation failed
Disable the password policy enforcement feature for the SQL Server login, please take these steps:
    1) Create a reg key by name “SQLArg3” of type REG_SZ in the registry location
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\<Instance ID Created by the install>\MSSQLServer\Parameters and add the value “-T4606”
Note: SQLArg3 should be replaced with a value higher than existing keys. So if you already have SQLArg0, SQLArg1, SQLArg2, SQLArg3 then add the value above with SQLArg4
    2) Stop SQL Server Service and click “Retry” in the setup window and setup should proceed further and complete successfully.

Mac with latest updates: installation window appears, shows message "Retrieving install" for 3 seconds then installation window goes blank. Why?

Hold down the option key during start up - you will be given the choice of which partition to use (Macintosh HD or Windows). I am having the same problem - Windows 7 seems to have installed but it goes to a blank black screen and there is nothing to do but force a reboot. I too have an i3 iMac... Windows 7 32-bit from original disc.

  • SQL Server 2008 is the worst installation experience ever

Sorry but you guys have really messed up with SQL Server 2008 installation.
I've been using SQL server since 6.5, so I would classify as a fan.  We were looking at upgrading from 2005, which I was quite pleased with.
The installation experience is the worst I've ever experienced.  I am a computer expert, and I couldn't figure out how to install it properly.  Why is it that when I downloaded SQL Server Management Studio Express 2008, it seems as though it wants
to install the full database?  Why is it when I was asked if I wanted to install a new version of SQL Server 2008 or use a previous install, when I chose previous install, it said that an instance ID was missing, but there was no way to specify anything
    else?  It drove me crazy.
Why are there so many requirements and restrictions for the installation, when all I want to do is install Management Studio?  It's intolerable and makes me never want to upgrade to 2008.  Why is the process so terrible when Microsoft is supposed
to have the best UE people in the business?
You guys did a really terrible job on this one.

We have not tried to cluster 2012.  We used to cluster; however, we were not prepared to manage the added complications.  The result was that our non-clustered servers had better uptime.  We used to joke about how many 8s we were
getting with our cluster.  (To be fair, it did not help that we had a 7x24 SLA with only 8-5 staff.  When the cluster fails to failover, it can be a long time before it is fixed.  We eventually got the kinks worked out.)
I understand the frustration.  Excellence and stability can be achieved, but product lifecycles can punish those who seek such qualities.  Product changes and shorter support lifecycles produce revenue for MS, so I don't see this getting better.
There will be a new OS, new SQL, and a new set of problems the next time around.
I expect things to get worse until we get pushed into the cloud.  A stable environment in the cloud is profitable for MS and clients.  I do not think this is the case now outside the cloud.  Upgrading applications to remain
on supported products is very costly.  And about the only business benefit of the upgrade is that the product remains on a supported platform and gets security updates.  Sort of sound like that blackmail virus?  I'd rather pay to have a
patch for new features and focus on application upgrades that improve business processes.  Now bug fixes can require a major version change - which will have new bugs.  I'm ranting because of some head pounding
I've done this week due to a hard coded limitation introduced in SQL 2012 by design.  I'll replace the process, but I wonder how long it will work as my SQL related PSH often breaks with a new version of something.  I'll
stop now. Where'd my Prozac go?  Next week is new week, life is good, everything will work,....
PS I actually enjoy the work and think MS products are decent; however, our environment does seem to be more frail and less stable due to MS product changes - even if the products are getting better.  Better is worse - what an odd thought.

  • VERY LARGE BUG in latest Net8 installation

I started working at a shop which is running Oracle 8.0.6 on Solaris, and the original installation disks are across the city, I do not have immediate access to them. One cannot install the latest Net8 ODBC drivers without the Universal Installer. I downloaded and configured the only available Universal Installer, version 1.7.0.20.0A from the Oracle web site (3 failed downloads, thank you very much!) and now, when it hits the check for older dependencies (the part where the installation instructions say just click "YES" to continue), it can't continue (the installer only presents "OK"). I have tried to backwards apply all the other installations of Net8 (<OS>.prd files won't work with the installer I configured, it's too new) from the ground up, and this does not work (the dependency check nails it every time). All I want to do is install this driver, and I have reasoned now that it seems to be impossible. I'm not hopeful that you'll answer this (you didn't respond to my post yesterday at all), but I just thought you should know that you may want to rewrite your install, because it basically ***** big time. Thanks for all the running around.

When Oracle 8.0.6 is installed, it should install the proper version of the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI).
If you go to, Start | Programs | Oracle for Windows NT | Oracle Installer, you should be able to pull up the version of OUI needed to install the latest 8.0.6 ODBC driver.

  • Nightmare installation experience! Please help, I ...

I've been having some major problems with my BT Infinity, phone and
vision service since they were installed 6 days ago. I spent most of
Saturday afternoon trying to get them fixed. When I was eventually
offered an engineer appointment I was told that this was going to be
on Thursday which is a five day wait to try and fix a faulty
installation. I asked to cancel my new contract because it is not
functioning as it should, but was told that I could only do this if I
paid a £600 cancellation charge! This seems totally unacceptable for
an internet, phone and TV service that is not working.
    Here is my scenario:
I ordered BT Infinity option 2, a phone line plus the Youview vision
package. This was installed on Wednedsay 11/12/13 of this week. When
the engineer left he tested it and was getting 60MB connection speeds
    and a clean phone line.
I started using the Youview box on Thursday and streaming things over
the internet and the router was cutting out (flashing red and no
connection) whenever I was trying to stream anything either on my
computer or on the youview catchup player. We might be able to watch
10 minutes, but after that time it cuts out and we have to start agin.
We get this on the youview box or on a computer. It seems that the
connection cannot handle something that draws a fair bit of data. On
Thursday and Friday I found that streaming did not work well for us,
but we could use the connection for basic browsing and email. I'd
noticed a bit of crackling on the phone, but we do not use the home
phone a lot so it was not really registering for us. I could handle
the poor connection for a few days if it was going to improve, but
    that has not happened.
On Saturday morning we had more problems. The router was cutting out
all the time and the internet was basically unusable. It sometimes
drops the connection when there is nothing using the internet. It
might hold it for 30 minutes sometimes if nothing is using the
connection, but if I try to use the internet it cuts out pretty much
straight away. I decided to phone BT broadband faults and they raised
it to the level 2 broadband faults team. I never spoke with them but
it appears that they decided to sent out an engineer (but did not call
me to say they were going to do that and the engineer only called
ahead on the landline to say he was coming). I was out and so he left
a phone message (only on the landline phone) and when he arrived home
a bit later I found a card to say he had tried to visit. If he had
phoned my mobile I would have come home for his visit but no-one did
that. I also did not get a text message or email to say he was coming.
I tried calling broadband faults around 1pm and because there was now
crackling on the line they said that I would need to report the fault
to the telephone line faults team. So they put me through. I explained
the problem and the operator had me do lots of things to test the
socket. She wanted me to use a different phone in the socket, but we
only have one phone. We arranged for her to call back later in the day
when I'd got another test phone. We've just moved house and I did not
feel I could ask the neighbours so I drove to a friend's house to get
one. I tested the line again and there was still crackling on it so
she said she would book an engineer to come out. When she checked the
first available appointment was Thursday. This took up most of
Saturday afternoon with phone calls and investigation.
I wanted to go with BT for the BT Sport channels and because it
appeared that with infinity they now had a broadband offering that was on a
par with Virgin. I've been with Virgin for 6+ years and been happy.
The BT offer seemed good and so we switched across when we moved
    house.
I've had a really bad experience since installation and the connection
is not acceptable for what is a premium broadband package. I can't use
the TV service and the sports channels will only stream for a few
minutes until the internet connection drops out. I'm only able to
access the internet through tethering on my mobile, but I have
limiited data for that and I expect that I'll run out of my allowance
    within a week or so.
What I really want to do is just cancel the contract without any
charges. I don't see why I should be charged anything for a service
that is not working and is unusuable. Reading around online it seems
that people in my kind of situation are pursaded to try a number of
engineer visits before cancellation and still nothing seems to get
fixed. By that time they've had the service for a month or two and
cancellation is much harder. I'd just like to cancel it now because
the service it not usable - I'm 6 days into it and it is just not
working. I don't see why I should pay any cancellation charges for a
    service that is not working.
I know that Virgin works without problems and I'd like to go back to them.
Can anyone advise me how to cancel this contract without charges and get the services all out?
    Thanks,
    Matthew

  • How do I find out what the latest software installation is on my iMac?

Usually "install updates now" windows indicate what you are installing or updating.  If that information is not included how do you find out what it is that you installed?

Which OS? The latest versions don't have a Software Update prefPane. To view what's installed with those, you need to run the System Information.app located in /Applications/Utilities/ and click on the Installations item.

  • Old "Latest" Product installations, startup tasks and mars release

    Hello,
since mars release, the startup task tries to install from the Mars-Updatesite into a Luna Eclipse (and fails because of conflicting dependencies).
I guess this is because I chose "Latest (Luna)" during install. With the Mars release this was automagically changed to "Latest (Mars)", I had to change the installation.setup manually to "Luna" to fix the update failure during startup and stay at Luna.
Is oomph supposed to be able to upgrade eclipse to the next release? Otherwise it might be better if this property does not change on its own (and it might be wise to ask the user anyways beforehand as this might cause other trouble).

I suspect you didn't really pick "Luna" but "Latest Release (Luna)". To clarify that, can you please attach the XML
content of your installation.setup file? There's an "Open in Text Editor" action in the context menu when you have the
    Installation Setup file open.
"Latest Release (Luna)" means "Install Luna now and always update to the latest release". And of course the latest
release has now changed to be Mars.

No, that only impacts a possible PDE target platform.

  • Latest skype installer taking absolutely forever to install

I have an i7 4790k 4GHz processor, 2 128GB SSD's in RAID 0, a total of 3tb internal storage and a Z87-G43 Mobo. Latest installer from skype's website is taking longer than 30 minutes now, just to install. 4mbps line, no connection issues right now.

I'm quite surprised by that, are you sure it didn't upgrade you again to 7.5?
Nonetheless, another thing to try is to remove your previous skype data, but your chat history might be lost...
    1. quit skype completely, so from the tray (next to clock), right-click and 'quit';
    2. go to My Computer, or File Explorer, and browse to the following folder (you might have to type this into the address bar at the top):
    c:\users\[your windows username]\appdata\roaming\
    3. rename the 'skype' folder to 'skype_old' or something;
    4. restart skype.
By the way, if you would like to keep the previous version (6.21), then you will have to follow these instructions to disable automatic updates, and also keep an eye on Windows updates, because Microsoft force people to upgrade by pushing skype through Windows Updates (especially if set to install automatically).
As a last resort, you could login to skype from your web browser (Skype for web).

  • Awful installation experience

I purchased a new Samsung washer and dryer from Best Buy.com. I scheduled a delivery date and was told I would get a two hour window the day before they came so that I could have someone at the house to sign for delivery. The day they were supposed to be there, the window I was given was 8:30 AM to 1030A.m. At 1045, I call GeekSquad to find out where the delivery team was because I had not heard from them. They put me on hold for about 15 minutes while they tracked down the delivery team only to come back and tell me that they would be another 15 minutes. I asked the Geek Squad employee how they could've missed a two hour window by a half hour, and her response was "this is just the situation we have been dealt." I told her that that was an unacceptable response, as I had met my end of the deal by arranging for someone to be there within the two hours that they were supposed to come. I had a friend at my home awaiting the delivery. They finally showed up around 11 and then spent about two hours installing a washer and dryer. The reason that it took so long was because they said the water supply valves were leaking and called their supervisor on speakerphone to get advice on installation. Their supervisor told them that a problem with the plumbing was the owners' problem and not theirs, so they left. They said that the water supply valves would have to be replaced.
I called a plumber to come to my home and replace the valves so that I can have a working washing machine. The plumber was in my home for less than five minutes, and told me that the only thing wrong with the washer was that Best Buy had not installed correctly and did not tighten the nuts on the bottom of the water supply valves. This five minute visit cost me $75, and the plumber documented specifically in his work summary that Best Buy failed to install the appliance correctly. The dryer is fine but the washer is not balanced correctly and rattles around every time it enters the spin cycle.
First, Best Buy should not offer free delivery and installation if it does not have the resources to meet the installation windows that it says it can. I would've been happy to pay something for delivery and installation if they had simply sent me a qualified team to do it right the first time. The team that delivered my washer and dryer blew a two hour window by half an hour on what was probably their second delivery of the day. They were a couple of teenagers wearing jeans and T-shirts and driving a U-Haul. It wasn't even clear that they were Best Buy employees. This is ridiculous.
Second, the delivery teams should receive some basic training on installing appliances if that is what they are hired to do. I can't believe I was told to hire a plumber to come and have major work done to my plumbing when all they needed to do was tighten the nuts on the bottoms of the water supply valves. They literally had no idea what they were doing, and I have read through a lot of this forum to find that that is a very common problem. How many people have had to pay out-of-pocket to fix the problems with Best Buy's "free" delivery and installation?
I have called Best Buy customer service at least three times to try to find resolution for this. Each time I'm told to call a different place. Most recently I was told to call Corporate Information. Corporate Information only handles press releases as far as I can tell. Why would I be told to call there to talk about customer service issues? I have written an email to the general customer service address, and have not received a response. It has been over a week.
The bottom line is, I will probably not be buying any more appliances from Best Buy. I expect to be reimbursed the $75 I should never have had to spend to fix the installation that was done by people did not know what they were doing. I bought my appliances online, so I don't have a specific store to walk into to talk about this problem. I am, however, willing to walk into my local store and make this their store managers problem if it doesn't get rectified quickly. Hope to hear from you soon, Best Buy!

    Hello Nicole82,
From personal experience, finding the right washer and dryer for your home can be a trying experience. There are many questions you have to ask yourself. What brand and color do I want? Do I want a front or top load appliance? Will that model fit in my home? Is it within my price range? Do I need a gas or electric hook up for the dryer? It sounds like you found exactly what you were looking for though, so it’s disappointing to hear the free delivery and installation service you were offered with your purchase fell so short of your expectations.
When your delivery day arrives, you should receive a call from us to provide you a 2-hour block of time for your appointment.  While our delivery teams aim to meet the specific window of time provided, please keep in mind this window is merely an estimate and unforeseen circumstances may cause unexpected delays. We should be notifying you if this is the case though, and I apologize if we failed to do so and for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Having said this, it sounds like the actual installation itself was far from ideal. It’s clear to me this situation has yet to be resolved despite your multiple requests for assistance, so I’d be happy to review your case in greater detail. While I cannot guarantee the outcome you are hoping for, please send me an invoice of the receipt you received from your local plumber along any other paperwork they may have provided you by emailing us at [email protected] using the subject line, “Attn: Alex”.
I hope to hear from you soon,

  • My somewhat bizarre Tiger installation experience

I decided it was time to upgrade my wife's 15" Powerbook G4 from 10.3.9 to Tiger, so I sat down this morning to start the process. I inserted Install Disk 1 and rebooted per the instructions.
The process started as expected, with the installation dialog opening. I went through and answered all of the questions up to selecting which drive to install on. At that point, the message came up telling me it was checking the installation media. It looked like it would be a slow process, so I left the room for a bit.
When I returned, I noticed that Install Disk 1 had been ejected, and the screen was showing the gray Apple logo reboot screen, with the rotating thingy under the Apple logo. Huh? I thought I was going to be asked what kind of installation and maybe one or two more questions. Could the media be bad? Did it reboot? Was it looking for the next Install disk? I had no idea.
So I just tried something...I inserted Install Disk 2. After a few minutes of the drive spinning and sounding active, it eventually spit that one out, too. So I did it again with Install Disk 3. Same thing, so what the heck, I put in Disk 4. Every time, the drive sounded active, like it was actively reading it, for a good amount of time.
Eventually Disk 4 was ejected, but after that I had no idea what to do. The screen was still showing the gray Apple logo with the spinning thingy. What to do now? Nothing else was happening...no hard drive noise, nothing. I put Install Disk 1 back in for the heck of it. Nothing this time. Silence, and a continuously spinning thingy.
After a long while of this, I had no idea what to think or what to do. So, knowing that I had a backup of her data available, I did the manly thing and held the power button down until it shut off, and then I rebooted. I had no idea what to expect.
Well, after some time to think to itself, the Powerbook rebooted just fine, and the 10.4 Setup Assistant appeared as expected. "About This Mac" says 10.4 is installed, and everything seems to be working as it should as far as I can tell.
Huh? I've installed Mac OS's, including Tiger, many times and I've never come across anything like this before. I've searched around but haven't seen other experiences like this. What do people think? Anything else I should do to make sure it installed everything correctly?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I realize I don't need CDs, I'm just telling you this is what the University gave me. And yes, I paid the academic discount price you mentioned.
These are, in fact, "proper" Tiger installation disks. In case you don't buy that, here's a pic of Install Disk 1:
    http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/8449/installdisksw6.jpg
And yes, there are three more labelled Disks 2-4.
I did not state that when I returned, the whole process was completed. I stated that, when I returned, Install Disk 1 had been ejected, and the gray screen with the Apple logo and the spinning thingy were displayed. I waited half an hour before deciding that something was probably not right, so that's when I tried inserting the remaining Install Disks.
It may very well be that the remaining Install Disks weren't required and the whole process really was finished and it only needed Install Disk 1. But it sure seemed like the others were needed -- the CD drive spun and clicked like it was reading continuously for 10 minutes until it spit the disk out again. Same goes for the other disks. And in the end, it never did reboot, it just hung on the same screen.
The process is a mystery to me, and apparently to you too. I'm looking to see if anyone has had similar experiences or any tidbit of advice, which I still maintain is a perfectly good question to ask on the Apple Support forums. Your advice is to start from scratch again and use a "proper" DVD. I got it, and thanks for the advice.

Successfully, till first startup of EM Database Control ->
Error: java.lang.Exception Exception in sending Request null ->
Hmm.. Spent 2 week there! Could do very minor sql plus stuff( barely past logon) but surely a crippled installation! Googled and searched here to never to find adequate or resolving resolution – so, well, since 10g isn’t the most current release( and one suggested resolution was to patch 10.2.0.4) – On to 11g and to get out of the bad
    out-a-the box 10g experience… ( If anyone wants’ to suggest a how to complete a successful 10g - feel free…install)
So, on to 11g, - successful install – Em starts – “Certificate Error!” ->continuing,
Can login! Seam to be able to look around a bit – Status Up, instance, host, listener – ok!
    On to Manage accounts
    1.     Log in to Database Control.
    2.     Click Schema.
    3.     In the Users and Privileges section of the Schema page, click Users.
Oops - Scheme OK – Where’s Users and privileges section?
Hmm-> it sure doesn’t work like the Doc says!
Cant even get to Users and Privlages… and
I’m getting nowhere fast! Horrible OutOfThe Box experience with Oracle!
(and I’m not a novice computer or dbms user/installer)!
Stalled, stuck, not even close to doing what a dbms is supposed to do yet!
So, Help, Help here – How do I turn this horriable outabox around?
My simple goal – I have a perfect simple SQl2005 database and app running on SQL2005 datasource and want to put it on Oracle(Win32) datasource… (and yes I know and work with Oracle datasources from AIX boxes every day and am familiar with the Oracle SQL pecurlaritaries (ref cursors, sqlpluss, sql developer, crippled command line interfases… and such)
And actually, another purpose is to apply the best possible use of Oracle Tools for Visual isual Studio.
But first I have to get Oracle installed!
    Directions Please?

All looks acceptable (a few policy violations but OOK) - can stop and start!

  • My Leopard installation experience....

I installed Leopard on a new 400GB WD SATAII HD last night.
First I used Tiget to format the drive HFS+ Journaled and then I started the install. Leopard took about 15 mins. checking theintegrity of the installation DVD and then about 30 mins. to complete the installation. The program re-booted afted taking a few mins. to clean the boot cache.
The setup program came up and asked for details on my IP address but I just told it I was on a cable modem and it seems to have aquired my DNS details on its own with no problem. It asked if I wanted to carry over settings from another installation but I said no... figuring it would really be a clean install.
I next installed CS3 Design Standard. During the installation I saw something flah by saying Acrobat 8 was already installed... *After the installation I noticed that there was no entry at all for Adobe Acrobat in the Applications folder! I knew that there were problems with Leopard and Acrobat but I figured that it would get installed but just crash if opened... it looks like Acrobat 8 never even gets installed!*
All of the CS3 Design standard programs seem to be much faster in Leopard. Very nice... but I have not had that much time to play yet.
One strange thing is that *at first Safari seemed quite slow*... but after a while it speeded up nicely... maybe it was caching files...
Loaded iLife 08... also without much of a hitch. Repaired permissions after all of this and got one user permission that needed to be repaired and this one linethat will not go away no matter how many times permission repair is run:
*"2007-10-30 23:48:53 -0700: Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired."*
this seems to reference remote access that says has been changed bit will ot need repair...
All-in-all a good experience. I look forward to learning what's under the hood.

From what I understand, there is a definite difference although I do not know what it is. So I don't really know about what the upgrade disc does. But I am surprised it gave you no options. Did it have anything you could print out like the "Mac OS X v. 10.5 Leopard Installation and Setup Guide" that comes with the full retail version?
As for doing an erase and custom install with the full retail version, yes you can do that. My MBP came with Tiger and I later installed Leopard with an erase and install and left out all the printer drivers and languages I would never use. I then had to reinstall iLife 08 and the other bundled applications from the Tiger install discs.
The real problem is that your friend needs her own set of discs for troubleshooting etc. I don't know if it's permissible for you to make her a copy of the Leopard Retail disc, but maybe you could since you did buy the family pack.
There should be some way to do what you want with her discs--it may be worth printing out whatever information there is and reading it closely and see if something is possible. I do know that the "options" box on my copy of Leopard was so subtle that I missed it the first time. It appears on the "select a destination" page in the lower left corner.
    Hope this helps.
    Good luck!

  • Firefox will not complete the latest update/installation.

I went through latest firefox update. All messages stopped during the update process, but firefox icons eventually dissappeared, so I couldn't access firefox. I thenwent through latest download and install on firefoxt to reinstall Then I got message that the other installation was waiting for reboot, it asked me if i wanted to restart, I clicked yes. After restaring computer the installation of firefox doesn't resume and does not appear to be installed if i try to install firefox again i get the same message about the other installation needing to complete and to restart. How do i finish the update? Or how do I remove and reinstall if needed?

Try to run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click firefox.exe: Run as Administrator).
If that doesn't solve the problem then remove the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) to do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 9.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
