Latest skype installer taking absolutely forever to install
I have an i7 4790k 4GHz processor, 2 128GB SSD's in RAID 0, a total of 3tb internal storage and a Z87-G43 Mobo. Latest installer from skype's website is taking longer than 30 minutes now, just to install. 4mbps line, no connection issues right now.
I'm quite surprised by that, are you sure it didn't upgrade you again to 7.5?
Nonetheless, another thing to try is to remove your previous skype data, but your chat history might be lost...
1. quit skype completely, so from the tray (next to clock), right-click and 'quit';
2. go to My Computer, or File Explorer, and browse to the following folder (you might have to type this into the address bar at the top):
c:\users\[your windows username]\appdata\roaming\
3. rename the 'skype' folder to 'skype_old' or something;
4. restart skype.
By the way, if you would like to keep the previous version (6.21), then you will have to follow these instructions to disable automatic updates, and also keep an eye on Windows updates, because Microsoft force people to upgrade by pushing skype through Windows Updates (especially if set to install automatically).
As a last resort, you could login to skype from your web browser (Skype for web).

I have a new iPod Touch 5th gen. My computer works on Windows 7. Latest ITunes gives me this message: "this ipod can't be used because the required software is not installed. Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does your device connect without that message now? -
When `ve downloaded the latest itunes and then i go to install it i get a message saying there is a problem with this windows installer package a program required for the install to complete could not be run, contact your support personnal or package vendor any ideas anyone ? thanks

Using Windows 8.1 with Directx11, when I lauch Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer, I see the error message "DirectX could not be initialized. Please be sure that it is installed on your system. You can download the latest DirectX installer from:[URL] I have the latest version, Directx11, as verified by running dxdiag.
Maybe you need to enable Direct Play under Legacy Components in the Turn Windows Features on or off dialog.
1. Right click on the windows start Logo on the taskbar, select Control Panel and click on Programs

I get a message that my version of Skype is to be retired. Then I find my operating system, which cannot be updated (Mac OS X 10.5. is unable to run the latest Skype.
So I need a new computer?6.15.334 actually works pretty well on the Mac, but the question is for how long....
Mocrosoft have decied to retired 6.14, which means that in about 8 months to a year, they will decide that 6.15 is due to be retired to, and that's it, gone.
The requirements for 6.19 are utterly stupid - a 1 Ghz CPU with Mavericks??????
The person who wrote that knows nothing about MacOS - there is not a single Mac with a 64bit EFI architecture that has a 1Ghz CPU, and the 32bit EFI machiens won't run Mavericks.
As Microsoft are prone to enforcing a hardware requirement whether it's needed or not (the requirement of PAE on a 64bit system when installing Windows 8.1 is a prime example), once they decide to ditch 6.19, we're stuck.
The windows version (desktop and metro ui) is terrible, bugridden, overcomplicated, cluttered and slow. The Mac version looks cleaner, is pretty lean, and runs fast on my 8 y/o macbook.
It's the only saving grace with Skype at the moment, and they're going to drop it when they feel like it, and sod all of us who don't have a brand spanking new mac.
Regarding 10.5.8, unless you're on a G5, I would suggest an upgrade to at least 10.6.8 (as far as you can go on a Core Duo 32bit), or 10.7.x on anything above a Core 2 Duo.
Even if you can only go up to 10.6.8, it's a big improvement over 10.5.x. -
Mac with latest updates: installation window appears, shows message "Retrieving install" for 3 seconds then installation window goes blank. Why?
Hold down the option key during start up - you will be given the choice of which partition to use (Macintosh HD or Windows). I am having the same problem - Windows 7 seems to have installed but it goes to a blank black screen and there is nothing to do but force a reboot. I too have an i3 iMac... Windows 7 32-bit from original disc.

No matter what I do the Skype installer won't work. I download it, but when I double click on it it brings up the "give permission" thing. I click yes, and then it does absolutely nothing.

Skype installer just runs the blue line for hours
My Skype would not load this week..although it has worked fine for some time. I decided to get the latest download. Installer did download but after accepting the agreement and giving permission for the Skype website to access my computer, the blue line that indicates downloading just travels across the pop up box goes and goes and goes for hours!!! with no effect. Yes, I did make sure my existing Skype was turned off.
I downloaded and restarted the installer 5 times and all with the same effect. I am really frustrated.
Can you help me?

Again Skype installer did not work for latest version Skype 7.3.0.101 for Windows XP but this time I know it is a Skype problem and not me or my computer, because it failed again and told me that an older version Skype 7.3 could not be removed, I am not surprised, I only had 7.2 at the time, and 7.3 was what I was trying to install. So Mr Skype/Microsoft, you still have some work to do. However my original solution of the get around does still work, and I use it instead. Skype installer doesn't do anything
When I open the "SkypeSetupFull.exe" it doesn't do anything. (It opens no window)
When looking at task manager it starts the process but it is instantly gone.
I had skype before but I uninstalled it.
Things I tried:
- Removing Skype folder in %Appdata%, Program files and program data.
- Removing every key that contains Skype in regedit.exe
- Downloading skype 6.3.0.107 (Same problem)
- Running the installer as administrator

64 bits

I'm not sure if the error message is related but smart friend was using my computer started deleting Quicktime & Safari and told me that they shouldn't be on my computer as they are not windows product & I can't use them on my laptop. With trepidation but acknowledging I don't know any of the stuff they were talking about, I allowed them to raid my laptop thinking it could be for the best. Now I'm not sure if it is related or not but depsite me having the most recent Itunes updates on both my Ipod 4TH GT, I am getting the following message everytime I connect my Ipod to the computer...and the timing would be about right too:
this ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the Itunes installer to remove Itunes, then install the 64-bit version of Itunes.
If it helps I am running the 10.7.0.21 on the Sony Vaio & remember checking last week I do have the latest update on the Ipod but it is a different version from the Itunes on the laptop (which may be normal, I wouldn't know) but as I am away from home & Wifi I can't tell u the version on that though.
My problem is I cannot find an apple installer on the laptop to uninstall & I have searched Apple & Google for help and have seen others posts with the same issue but alot of the answers unfortunately I can't follow. I would greatly appreciate it if you can you answer any of these questions for me?
*Will add & remove totally uninstall Itunes so that I can reinstall?
*Will I lose my apps, music & data?
*If the apps, music & data is recoverable, how do I do that?
Sadly I can't find the installer & would love to add my new Mumford & Sons cd to my Ipod collection but don't know how to fix this. I love my Ipod & google but I have spent hours tryign updates, downloads, searches & feedback to Apple. A few months ago I had an Itunes billing problem & there was a webpage where you could email an apple support worker & rhe replied to my credit card problem within a day or 2 but I can't find that help for this problem..I couldn't express my graditude enough if you could help me with this, but thank you.dorygirl2009 wrote:

This "smart friend" really sounds like a collosal moron.
Follow the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 to remove and reinstall all Apple products on your computer.
Once you get everything working, the next time your "smart friend" wants to touch your computer, tell them firmly NOT A CHANCE IN ****!
None of your data (media, podcasts, apps) will be affected by removing and reinstalling iTunes. -
I have the latest 64-bit version of iTunes on Windows 7 Ultimate. Everything was fine until recently. Now when I connect my iPod Touch to the USB to sync with iTunes, I get the following message: "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes" I have removed, repaired, and installed the 64-bit version numerous times as well as disabled all antivirus / adware utilities. Same message appears when I plug in my iPod. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are on the 3.6 release and Firefox 7.0.1 is out. You can download and install the latest release from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ if you would like to update now. The 3.6 version will be maintained for a while longer, but you should update when you can. -
Error 1500-Failed Download of Adobe Reader due to another Installation taking place.
I just bought a new desktop and I was trying to get the User Manual for it but I needed to download Adobe Reader in order to get the manual.. I tried to install Adobe twice and each time I've recieved the same Error message.. ERROR 1500:Failed download due to other installations taking place at the same time. Finish downloads then finish Adobe download.. Something to that effect.. Anyways, I tried to re-install Adobe agian thinking that it was just a fluke, but, recieved the same message again... UGH!! HELP!!!!
I was able to uninstall using that link. Now I’ll need to re-install something…will try
