My lock button broke last night, and my phone turned itself off just now.. I can't turn it back on. What do I do?

When I plug it into my computer nothing happens.

Try  SMC and PRAM resets:

  • My battery died last night and the phone switched itself...

My battery died last night and the phone switched itself off. It has now been charging for 5 hours and still will not switch on. Please help.

Remove and reinsert the battery from the device. Also clean the battery and device connectors with a cloth....then plug the device on the charger.
If that fails then you might have to consider changing the battery.

  • I lost my iphone 4S last night and the phone is switchwed off . what shud i do to recover it ????

i lost my iphone 4S last night and the phone is switchwed off . what shud i do to recover it ??? its status shown offline at find my iphone and it unable to activate lost mode as it is switched off . what shud i do to locate or recover it ? plz help me

If your missing device is off or offline, you cannot located it, however, you can still put it in Lost Mode, lock it, or remotely erase it. The next time your device is online, these actions will take effect.
As for the data on the iPhone, if you have backed up the iPhone with iTunes or iCloud, you can use the iPhone backup extractor to extract the data from the backup files to your computer, or restore the found data to a new iPhone with the help of iPhone PC Suite.

  • I was on the phone last night and my phone randomly turned off.  It will not come back on even when I have tried to hold the home button and the power button together while being plugged into the computer.  What do I do?

I was on the phone last night and my phone randomly turned off. It will not come back on even when I have tried to hold the home button and the power button at the same time, while being plugged into the computer? What do I do?

Plug it into power for at least 15 minutes.  If it doesn't automatically come on, try a reset... press the home and sleep (on/off) buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

I have a 2009 Macbook Pro with 1T hdd 8GB Ram and ran Maverick without problem...Yosemite installation has me completely frozen, nothing works but the spinning ball...I had to force shutdown last night, and haven't turned it on again...what do you advise?  During installation emptied cache, etc. Backed up using time machine, fortunately.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • I upgraded to ios 5 last night and all of my contacts have gone!  Where can I find them?

I upgraded to ios 5 last night and all of my contacts have gone!  Where can I find them?

Thanks - I actually went into Settings - then icloud - then contacts and switched it to off and they came back!  Thanks anyway.

  • I shut my iphone off over night and tried to turn it back on the next day and it would not turn on... or charge or anything.....anyone know what causes this..or what happened??

pleas help me out my iphone 5c is only a month old...i shut it off over night and went to turn it back on the next day and it wouldn't turn on or charge or anything.....

Plug it in to wall power.  If it doesn't automatically come on within 15 minutes, try a Reset... press the home and sleep/lock buttons until you see the Apple logo. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.  You might need to hold the buttons for as long as a minute.
If it still doesn't turn on, you likely have a hardware problem.

  • HT4528 I updated my iPhone 4S last night, and my phone is locked up with the iTunes emblem and the iPhone cord pointing upwards. I hooked the pone into my computer, and it's tell I

I updated my iPhone 4S last night and it is locked up on a screen with the iTunes emblem and the iPhone cord pointing upwards toward it. When I hook it to the computer, it's telling me that the phone is in recovery and I need to restore it. That will erase everything in my phone. What do I do? I can't use my phone for anything.

Use iTunes on the computer to restore your iPhone. Since the iPhone
is already in recovery, any data that was on the iPhone is gone.

  • My phone ran out of battery last night and will not turn on through charging. Top button has also stopped functioning. Help?

My iPhone ran out of battery last night, and now it won't turn on.
The top button doesn't work anyway, but I've tried charging to wake it up using several chargers and via a laptop and plug socket.
The phone's about a year old, and has otherwise been working fine. I've no idea why it would just stop working - no water spilt on it or anything like that.
    Can anyone suggest anything?

Clean iPhone charging port with toothbrush and small amount of Isopropyl Alcohol. See if better. Try another good USB cable. This iPhone potentially has many problems. Without the top button function it is very difficult to deal with any of the other problems. The iPhone may also have faulty battery, faulty charging port, or worse faulty screen, or even worse faulty logic board. Apple will handle this with perfect Replacement iPhone 4 exactly like yours for $149.

  • I just bought mine last night and when i turned it on today it said another device was using my ip address.  I have an iPhone is that what it meant?

I just bought my MacPro laptop last night and when I started it up this morning it said another device was using my ip address?  I have an iphone is that what it meant

It probably means you've manually set an ip address of another device on your network to the ip address that your dhcp server wants to assign to your computer. Or, it means that a neighbor has connected to your network with a fixed ip address that your dhcp server wants to assign to your computer. Or, it means that you are really connecting to a neighbor's network and you've set your computer's ip address manually to an address your neighbor is already using for one of his devices.
Make sure that all your network devices are set to receive their ip Address automatically (dhcp). Restart your router and all connected devices to see if that clears up the problem.

  • My iphones turned itself off during the night and I cannot turn it back on - it did not get in touch with watter

My charged my phone last nigh and used it literally before I went to bed. I woke uo this morning and the phone was off and I cannot turn it back on.
It was warking perfectly fine last night.
I have watterproof case on it and always in my handbag, just in case you want to mention that it has to be watter. It is not!

Remove the phone from its case and try this...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...

  • My Macbook Pro ran out of battery last night and wouldn't turn back on even when connected to power for a period of time. However, when I woke up, it did turn on. Is there a reason this happened and should I get it looked at?

Last night, I was watching something on my Macbook Pro and it died (out of battery). I went to plug it in and waited a couple of minutes to try and start it back up. However, when I connected the power source the light was green, which could not have been the case since I know 100% it was out of battery. I proceeded to hold the start button for a long period of time, but my computer made no noise and refused to turn on - it looked like for all intensive purposes it was dead. I left it alone overnight praying that it would be alright in the morning and luckily, when I opened the computer this morning it was restarted and fine. I'm concerned because I've had this happen to me a couple of times and while it always turns back on, I feel like there is a bigger issue that I need to get addressed. Can anyone help me with this? Any ideas? Thank you!

Apple Does Not recommend that. Please Read.

    From that article
    "Portables with built-in batteries"
Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article. These computers use batteries that should be replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Apple recommend calibrating the battery when you buy a new Macbook and then every few months, or monthly if it used on mains all the time. This, as Apple says is to keep the battery operating at maximum efficiency. When the battery discharges and shuts the macbook down, it still has reserve power for a good number of hours. There is also a logic board battery to hold various settings.
I rather think I will take Apples advice on using their equipment not yours, but I would be intrigued to discover what is it you know that Apple doesnt about its batteries?

  • My iPhone 4S turned itself off last night and won't turn back on.

My iPhone 4S randomly tuned itself off last night (whilst on charge) and now it won't turn back on. I've tried holding down the home and power button, charging it, and connecting it to my laptop, and nothing. I'm just left with the apple on the screen. Please can anyone help?

Toggle the Mute switch a couple of times. The hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time until an Apple logo appears, or 30 seconds have gone by. If you see nothing you have a hardware defect in the phone. If you seen anything at all on the display follow its instructions, which will probably be to connect to iTunes and restore the phone.
