  • Why has .mac email suddenly stopped working on my PowerPC G5?

It's worked fine for a couple of years and now it asks for my password, which it will not acknowledge.   I checked my .mac account settings, etc and all seems fine.  The .mac account runs fine on my phone and thru iCloud.  But now not on my desktop.
They're killing off MobileMe and I noticed that my desktop won't sync anymore with that either.  Related?    It appears that you will need OSX Lion to function fully with iCloud.    Let's see, I'm only 13 OSX upgrades behind........

  • The "enter" key on the numeric keypad of my external mac keyboard has stopped working. Help!

The "enter" key on the numeric keypad of my external mac keyboard has stopped working with my Macbook pro.  If I plug the keyboard into any other computer, that entier key works fine. I'm using a standard Mac wired keyboard, & it's worked fine for 2 years now. Help!
This is the keyboard I am using: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB110LL/B/apple-keyboard-with-numeric-keypad
Not sure what I might have accidentily done to disable the enter key. (The normal enter key works fine, just the one on the numeric keypad.)
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi there,
Do you have any resolution to this problem in the end? Because it happened to me an exact same thing.
Please share if you have found a solution to your problem. I also cannot think of what I did wrong to disable the Enter key.
    Best Regards,

  • My email has stopped working - all settings correct - nothing changed

Hi.  Yesterday my email stopped working. All settings are correct. Nothing in my infrastructure has changed. Test emails sent to the address simply disappear without generating a 'bounce back'.

    Richard75:
If the error is denying the user/pass, it might be wrong settings for user/password or type of authentication that should be used (maybe your mail ISP as changed settings)
Check if you are using SSL or not (some servers might not suport SSL) and check the type of authentication being used (none, password, kerberos, etc). The more common method is plain password.
Also it might be a good idea to clear from the Keychain Access (/Applications/Utilities) the keys used to access the e-mail account.
Another problem associated with e-mail and certain networks (in this case your wireless network) can be the router MTU, in some cases set to 1500. if you are able and know how to change it, set it to 1492 (although I don't recall this ever causing wrong user/pass issues). Try checking if u can use your mail via ethernet cable. If the same happens via cable, then it's not exclusive for your Wi-fi network.
    @JebnKeewee:
From what you described, it seems you have a different problem, could u specify it? (are u able to log or not, can't receive, can't send, etc)

  • Hdmi sound on my mac mini has stopped working after I upgraded the OS

I just upgraded the iOS on my Core i5 Mac mini to 10.8.5 and my hdmi sound on my monitor stopped working. I have tried rebooting and adjusting the Audio midi settings and nothing seems to work. I know the mac mini speakers are working and the monitors speakers are working. What do I try next?

Resetting the NVRAM / PRAM, as per > About NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.

  • Email has stopped working

2 days ago I stopped receiving email from my BT addresses and stopped being able to send email. I can still receive email from @gmail.com and @mac.me. Also my email addresses work from the BT website. I have not changed any settings on any of my computers or router. This just happened. Is there a problem with the BT servers?

    Hi Ratan.
When you say you can access the email addresses from the BT website, can I assume that you are referring to webmail access via a browser ?
What email client program are you using (e.g Outlook, Thunderbird, Windows mail etc) and are you receiving any error message - if so, can you give the details (removing any personal info).
Are you with BT as a BTinternet user (via broadband or dial-up) ?
As a small test, can you login to :-
    www.btyahoo.com
using your btinternet email address. If you are taken directly to the email presentation, then the email address has been converted to Basic email (something of an unusual beast these days), but if you are taken to the normal portal - then there is a problem with your account or local setup.
Sometimes an account can fail to login via pop3/smtp for a period of time, normally a short while - but some people have had this problem over a number of days - which eventually sorts itself out.
There is not a problem with the BT servers, that's for sure, if there was - there would be masses of reports here and in the newsgroups, but I see none at present. Hence this indicates an individual account problem.

  • My Mac Pro has stopped working after downloading Yosemite OS

I downloaded Yosemite and everything was working ok. I left it for a few hours and when I came back it would not work - just a blank screen. I have tried restarting but after the initial 'cord' sound there is just a blank screen. Any ideas?

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
To restart an unresponsive computer, press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
    b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
    Step 3
Sometimes a startup failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 4
If a desktop Mac hangs at a plain gray screen with a movable cursor, the keyboard may not be recognized. Press and hold the button on the side of an Apple wireless keyboard to make it discoverable. If need be, replace or recharge the batteries. If you're using a USB keyboard connected to a hub, connect it to a built-in port.
    Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can start up now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
    Step 7
If you've started from an external storage device, make sure that the internal startup volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Start up in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know the login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you start up in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, the startup volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 11. If you ever have another problem with the drive, replace it immediately.
If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the startup process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select the startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.
    Step 9
If the startup device is an aftermarket SSD, it may need a firmware update and/or a forced "garbage collection." Instructions for doing this with a Crucial-branded SSD were posted here. Some of those instructions may apply to other brands of SSD, but you should check with the vendor's tech support.
    Step 10
Reinstall the OS. If the Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 11
Do as in Step 9, but this time erase the startup volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically restart into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer the data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 12
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a startup failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 13
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • Email has stopped working and cannot be re-setup; 'Activation failed' and 'Security of the connection cannot be verified' errors

The blackberry stopped receiving email as of Dec 22.  it does reeive Registration messages from blackberry. The browser still works.  I contacted the provider and the network is functioning correctly.   I have deleted the email setup several times and set it up again; I have removed the battery and restarted and reset up the email.  This involves a hotmail.ca account.  During email setup it checks for update and indicates the mailbox is set up and then it wants to reconcile contacts and that is when the Activation Failed; an error was encountered when sending the activation transmission notice appears.  When I use the browser to go to hotmail.ca and login, I can see all my email up to date and then an error message pops up indicating, Server Certificate Warning and when I select Details; it inidcaes untrusted certificate; unable to determine certificate's origin; when I view the certificate it identifies X h.live.com  Untrusted Certificate Chain; Stale Chain Status etc...  It's like the hotmail.ca or live.com is corrupted...how do I fix it.  The only thing I have not doe is to use the Security tool to Wipe email.  Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated.

  • My email has stopped working

    Hi there
Can anyone help me?  Ive got a blackberry curve and had it for just over a year.  Went on holiday and left phone in UK switched off.  I came back and switched it on and recieved emails as normal.  However on the following day I get an email from Blackberry (do not reply) asking me to validate  my password.  I follow the instructions provided but it tells me its not recognised.  I have removed and tried to re-install my email address (sky.com) with my password and it keeps coming up with 'unable to set up' and gives two options (1) re-enter email address and password or (2)provide the settings to add this email account.  I select the latter and then followed by 'this is my personal email account' and that 'I will provide the settings'.  Its then asking in addition to my email address and password the 'user name' and email server.  Ive tried following skys instruction but still no luck (

    Was your old provider Vodacom?
Please try this FIRST, using your BlackBerry browser...
    1)
    • Go to mobile.blackberry.com OR to www.blackberry.com/integrate
    • Scroll down to Communication and then to Email.
    • Choose the appropriate email set up options.
If that works and completes your email setup/editing, good.
If not, follow these additional instructions:
    2) Register HRT: (OS5) Home Screen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > Scroll to any line entry and > press the Menu key > and then click Register Now. If you have an OS 6 or OS 7 device, Look at Options > Device > Advanced > Host Routing Table, etc.
    3) Resend Service Books: Article ID: KB02830 How to send the service books for a BlackBerry Internet Service account. http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02830
    4) Then, with the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. A reboot in this manner is prescribed for most glitches and operating system errors, and you will lose no data on the device doing this.
    5) Now, return to the 1) mobile.blackberry.com email setup as mentioned above and follow that.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you!

  • Get an error message "Email has stopped working" and it closes.

I am frustrated at this point, when I proceed to open a new email or view ones already there, it takes forever to open then another long time to download.  Download takes too long and it gives me this error message.  Anyone having this issue?

We don't want to see you frustrated, AlejandraTx. What type (Yahoo, AOL, etc) do you have set up with your email application? Do you have this same trouble accessing your Gmail email as well? Are you able to open the email account through your phone's web browser with ease? The suggestion from Snn5 is also a great place to start.
