But it knows .doc is MS Word and opens it automatically (this is the behavior I would like with .docx docs.) In preferences -- applications - it is just says "content type" is "microsoft word document" but doesn't give a way to choose .docx specifically. Is there another way to do this?

According to your description, my understanding is that you could not edit documents with Office client application in SharePoint 2010.
Let’s do a troubleshooting about this issue:
1. Make sure that you have installed Office application on your machine.
2. Which explorer did you use for your SharePoint. Please test it with IE 10 32-bit, compare the result.
3. Please try to reset IE, compare the result.
4. Add your SharePoint site into Trusted site on your IE options.
5. Make sure all add-ons related to SharePoint are enable, special for SharePoint OpenDocument Class and SharePointOpenXMLDocuments.
6. Since you used OWA for your SharePoint site, please try to disable OWA, then open documents with client application, compare the result.

you can remove preferences files by navigating to the Preferences folder for your user as follows:
0) Quit ALL iWork apps (Keynote, Pages and Numbers)
1) from the Finder select the menu item "Go > Go To Folder…". This will bring up a dialog:
2) enter the path "~/Library/Preferences" (no double quotes)
3) find the files:
com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist
com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
and move these to the trash. I would NOT empty until later.
4) restart Numbers

The OE New Message box does not open when I click on an email address in Firefox. This is not a problem when I use MS Explorer. How can I fix it?

OE is set as my default email in both Firefox and Windows XP. When I click on an email address on a website within Firefox the OE page comes up but the OE New Message window does not open. When I go to the same webpage using MS Explorer and click on the same email the OE New message does open. Is there a bud in Firefox that prevents the OE New Message from opening? I had the same problem and it was because of my firewall settings, which I had set to block all activity and forgot to reset it.

Status bar missing in Firefox 6.0, also Real player does not function with updated version, had to switch back to 3.6

I've installed Firefox 6.0 about 3 times and each time I noticed that the status bar at the bottom of the page was missing. I relied upon the Norton Security "lock icon" which in version 3.6 would appear in the lower right hand corner of the status bar before signing in to websites or making transactions and found it very helpful. It was present in version 3.6 but not in 6.0. When I went back to 3.6 I suddenly had problems with the page freezing up so returned to 6.0 which corrected the problem but was not comfortable without the icon. I contacted Norton and via remote access the tech determined that the problem exists with Firefox's 6.0 version so he reinstalled 3.6 for me. Also I have a paid subscription to Real player Plus and it does not function with 6.0. I'm concerned because it seems you will soon phase out 3.6 and I will be without these functions which are important to me.

I have a solution! Follow this link and download the older version. When I installed it, everything came back as it was before! Yay! Good luck to you all. And bad move, Mozilla, in not making it clearer what the system requirements were for the update!!!!

Did you really disable all of them and still had the problem?

Firefox 3.6.12 crashes or does not open as soon as firebug is installed, why?

I am using firefox for last 5-6 years. But now these days I am fed up with its performance. I installed ff 3.6.12 and add-on firebug latest(1.5). When I restart FF, it shows up in process tabs but does not open. I disable it from process tab and continued with safe mode, disable firebug, FF works fine. What's the problem with firebug extension?? For 2-3 times I thought it's my os problem and I re-installed XP for couple of times. It's a hectic experience. Even I uninstalled google chrome. But I think, it's not only me who as a web developer facing the problem.

I have installed add-on: colorzilla, measure -it, echofon, google toolbar, java console and java quick starter. I tried individually to open firefox after every plug-in installation. Only after firebug, it does not come up. Even, when there is no plug-in installed and only firebug, it does not work!! So there is no way of conflict. Your above link is not a solution for my problem.

Firefox hangs when a url that does not exist is entered

If I enter a url that does not exist, either by a typing mistake or clicking on a link that no longer exists (like in google searches), Firefox stops responding. I can't open a new tab, I don't get any message or error. I have to close Firefox. This started happening with Firefox 4 and it appears to happen more with Firefox 5.
I do not use a proxy so that is not the problem.

As of Firefox 4.0 and newer one needs at least OSX 10.5+ and Intel hardware.
The latest you can use on your Intel with OSX 10.4.11 is Firefox 3.6.25 (released recently) which can be found at http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
If you were to update to say OSX 10.5.8 then you can use Firefox 9.0.1

I can't replace an old version of Firefox with a new one that I just downloaded. It says I don't have permissions to do so, and the old version can't trashed.

I've downloaded the new version, and when I go to drag the Firefox icon into the Applications folder, I'm prompted to replace the old version. When I do, it says, "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to modify 'Firefox'." I've looked everywhere, and every help forum says to just drag Firefox into the Trash. I've tried that, and it says that Firefox can't be trashed. I don't know if this means anything or not, but there is a small lock in the bottom left of the Firefox icon in my dock.

Try to drag the current Firefox application to the trash if you can't replace it.

I have several old Kodak Photo CD with PCD image files. I am now using Photoshop CS5. Some years ago while using Photoshop CS4 I copied a file: "Photo CD.8BI" from an older, CS2, version to the Plug-ins/File Format folder of CS4. This does not appear to work with CS5. Any fix?

It can be made to work, but you have to run the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5, and as I recall there's an additional DLL called pcdlib32.dll that's needed from the old installation.
