1. Non volatile random access memory (NVRAM) is where the computer stores user's settings, like time and date, speaker volume, energy saver settings etc.
2. Reseting NVRAM has no impact on anything on your hard drive, or anything else on the computer.

iPod nano version 6: random turn off, volume controls don't work, does not turn off, skip does not work. Two years old! Next version of nano has no clip and same amount of storage. I do not want to give up my version 6!
Make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and pay $75 USD for an out-of-warranty replacement.

My Macbook turns off randomly after being on for a while and usually occurs when streaming video on netflix or something. I think it is overheating. Any thoughts?
You might be right about the reheating. Get iStat Pro https://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html

Turn off delivery but not send function of emails
Hi,
I will be travelling, and I wanted to be able to turn off the delivery function of my emails to my blackberry so that data isn't used. However, I would still like to be able to send emails. How can I do this?
Thanks!
MJYou can't have one and not the other.
What you need to do is to use your device ONLY when connectedd to a WiFi hotspot while traveling.
Go to Manage Connections > Mobile Network, and disconnect or UNcheck your Mobile Network.
When you are at a WiFi hotspot and connect to that WiFi hot spot, your device will receive and send emails, and all other data via the WiFi connection.

Can you turn off data but not phone
How do you turn off the data on your phone (so you won't be charged for extra usage) but not the texting and phone?
Settings>General>Cellular>Cellular Data>Off. You can still SMS, but no MMS. iMessage will work while connected to WiFi.

Turning off phone but not wifi while overseas...
i don't want to pay for bulk texts i receive while overseas for the weekend (40 cents a text with rogers canada)... so i turn my phone to airplane mode so i can use it as an ipod... problem is i can't use wifi... if i turn wifi on it turns the phone on and the texts will come flooding in...
other than taking out the sim card... is there a way to turn off the phone but still use all other functions?...Personally I would take the SIM card out, as it's the easiest thing to do, as long as you don't lose it. Apart from Airplane mode, I don't think there is a way to disable the phone independently.

When one of my family members' leaves their facebook "feed" page open in firefox, the computer will not go to sleep, nor hibernate automatically. This effects multiple different computers running Windows 7 and Vista.
I believe it has to do with the update-window scripting, though I do not know why the browser(?) is keeping the computer awake. Peculiar though because watching a movie in the browser allows automatic sleep.. Must just be scripting.
Anyone have this issue or know of a "fix"?I have resolved the problem.
I replaced the AC adapter. Everying works find now. I tested runing the computer without the battery, and it works. So I might add that a possible test for an adapter that is not functioning properly is to try running it w/out the battery. If it does not run its possible that the ac adapter does not work.
Thanks. -
My MacBook is now asking for a password. When I login, it loops to a blue screen, and back to the login. Incorrect logins create a shaking of the login screen. I tried restarting with the shift key depressed, with no luck.
I performed a hard shutdown, and upon start I could access my system without logging on. I'm not sure what caused the issue, but I have not booted up in almost a week.

I have an image (Co. logo) placed in the header of a
template. Topics are attached to the template. I also have a
separate page that has hyperlinks to the the Topics in the several
books I have in the project.
When I generate (WebHelp) project and view the output, here
is what I see:
If I open any topic by directly going to a book and then
clicking on the topic, then I see the Co. Logo/image it is supposed
to be pulling from the Template. However, if I view the same Topic
by accessing it from a navigation page in which all the Topics are
hyperlinked then the top header does not show.
I am bit preplexed with these two separate displays of the
same topic. One showing the image in the header and the other not.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.Only you will know for sure what you are dealing with, but I do not see the same complete url code in the header of the page you say has a problem. I only see the page filename linked (not http:///www..., just home.html). It may be a case of those pages not using the same template.

Hi,
Sorry, I'm new to the community, so apologies if I'm repeating myself.
OK, so I tried to install Windows Vista onto my iMac with the disk partition. Everything was going fine and it wasn't until last minute, when it was installed that an error came up saying that this can only be done with Windows 7. After this error, I couldn't access any errors of my iMac and when I shut down and restarted my computer, it automatically logged into Windows.
So after a panic, I rang Apple Care and the lady helped me log into my apple area, delete Windows from my iMac, and all was restored.
However, now when I shut down my computer and boot it back up, I think my iMac is trying to log into Windows areas that no longer exist. It loads up a black screen and doesn't move from there. To log into my Apple area, I have to do the whole process of holding Alt immediately after I switch the power on and access the Mac drive and log in that way.
It's beginning to become a real pain and I'm paranoid this process is going to damage my computer. Any advice on how to restore logging-in back to it's former glory when I first purchased it?
ThanksSolved it. Thank you very much for that!

What does it mean when it says "check battery?". Do I need a new battery?
Your full charge capacity is about 75% of what it started as, and "Check Battery" suggests the system software sees a problem with your battery. You should start by resetting your SMC:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
But it looks as though your battery is about done. Given that it has so few cycles, you should call AppleCare if you are still under warranty, and they may replace it at no charge. If you are out of warranty, you will have to buy your own battery. -
Just updated to Yosemite and installed creative cloud. I had time stamp for a long time, but didn't use it and it was fine. Now it pops up and is annoying, so i removed the extension of timestamp and typeset yesterday and when i started my computer today it poped up again. Is that a daily occurrence or am i doing something wrong.
You must have selected a pre-defined extension set from the dropdown box under the search box by accident. So extension Manager enables/disables some extensions according to the rule of the pre-defined extension set automatically. With the pre-defined extension set active, you can't enable/disable any extension. The extension set feature is a convenient way for users to define multiple configurations so as to facilitate his/her work. For users who don't need extension set feature, we defined "Customized Set" and make it as the default set. So please select "Customized Set" in the dropdown box then you can enable whatever extensions you like.

When Unplugged my MacBook turns off
Like the subject says my MacBook turns off immediately after I unplug it. Also it continuously states that its calculating the battery. It shows the little plug inside the little battery outline and the plug's light is green. What should I do?
Try to reset the SMC (System Management Controller).
Have you done the battery update? About Battery Update 1.2. Depending on your model you may not need it. read the instructions.
If none of this helps I suggest you contact Apple support for more help. You may have a bad battery. -

Hello, I have a MacBook Air, when I was watching a movie it started to freeze, so I turned off. But when I turn it on just the white screen appears nothing else. I looked on other websites, but the methods didn't help.
Try a Safe Mode boot ...
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
