My macbook turns on to a grey screen with a folder in the middle of the screen. I don't know what to do to get it to turn on...
This has never happened. I have tried to do the command-option-p-r trick and that didn't work. HELP
That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the hard drive data is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That willforce your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
Once it has finished booting and you Choose Your Language and you are at the Install screen launch Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then select the First Aid Tab run Repair Disk and if that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

My iMac won't boot. I have tried putting my DiskWarrior DVD in and starting the computer holding the "c" key down wihile it is powering up. Whenever I open my notes it crashes, sending me back to my gome screen. I have tried turning my ipad off, closing it down fully, backing up my ipad... I don't know what to do. Please help.
Reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release. This just restarts it, you won't lose any data by doing this.

my macbook pro (with retina) has stalled whilst installing an update of mountain lion, the blue bar has stopped progressing, it has frozen and hasn't moved, I can't cancel the installation, I can't shutdown the computer, can't restart it, nothing...help!

To the OP - I had a upgrade from the App Store 'stall' on me last week - I couldn't even Force Quit the App Store app. I ended up just powering down with the power button and when I logged back into the App Store, the update finished downloading in seconds and I was ready to begin installation.
Try that and see if it works for you...

my lock button broke a while ago on my phone, and two minutes ago my screen went comletely black. it was simply placed on my table. i know it didn't die because it was on 80%, but any ideas on how to turn it back on or what happened to my phone?
If plugging it into power doesn't cause it to power back on, you're going to have to make an appointment at the genius bar and get it serviced.

My iPhone 5 is frozen and when I touch the screen nothing happens? Um it's been going on for 2 days and when I try to type something the keyboard types letters by itself and then when I go to home and try to tap an app it won't let me or open a folder and sometimes it happens and other times it's fine for like an hour until it starts glitching again and freezing. My screen is also cracked but I don't think that's the problem. What should I do cause I have no idea and it's really annoying.
Hey, There are afew things you can try.
- Simply turn your phone off and back on again
- Hold down your home button and your lock button and let goes as soon as the screen goes black (Phone will power down) - Then turn on your phone and hey presto!
- Back up your iPhone to your PC, then restore it..
this ones last cause I think you may have tried it already..
- Close all open applications

Settings > FaceTime. Be sure you have an Apple ID on file, and you should also see a header that says "You can be reached for video calls at:" where you can add an email address. The email address that is entered here is the email address you should use to FaceTime the other person.

I was useing my colne tool in apetrure when, apeture froze. I could not get it to work again, so I turned off my computer, re booted my machine and tried to open the programme again. I can not get aperture to open again and I can't open I photo either. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me get the programme running again? I have a deadline to meet this evening. Help!
I have tried both options.
When I got to point 3 I choose the library I was working on and the same error message popped up, so this option did not work.
I then tried the second suggestion and chose the repair option but as before there is no sign of a repair database grogress indicator. Where would I be able to see this and what does it look like. I can't see any evidence of anything happening on my screen.
I have also just tried the first option that comes up in the pop up box where you have to enter your password, this resulted in the same error message.
I don"t know what to do.
I don't really want to have to go for the third option where you have to rebuild you data base - Would this result in loosing images? -

I bought the IMAC 21.5" /2.5QC /2X2GB /500GB /6750M sept2012. After the automatic update run when restart computer the screen is on the gray screen with the logo and wont' do anything else. I tried to reboot holding the shift key without success. The package did not come with a CD so I can not reinstall the previous system. I even don't know what is the system that came with the computer because I just start using it. I bought in the US but am in Brazil. Restart holding down Command+r and at the screen with four choices select Disk Utility>Macintosh HD and click on 'repair disk'. If any changes are made click on repair disk again until you get a clear pass. Restart as normal from the Apple menu.

fewq days ago i updated my i pad to ios 6 by connecting it to the labtop , since that time my i pad is dead it doesn't want to switch on anymore the only message i get on the screen is a picture of wire connection with i tunes tried to connecting it hundred times with the labtop but without any response don't know what to doIf force restarting doesnt work, and your computer cant recognize it, I would suggest bringing it to the genius bar at an apple store so they can run diagnostics. This seems to be the last step, because the issue seems pretty serious.

There's a black and white striped glitch on the left side of my screen on my Macbook Air! My Macbook aliminium unibody from late 2008 will not boot. I reach the grey screen with the apple icon and the spinning grey gear. I used disk utility to boot it but it said integrity test failed. I don't know what to do can anyone please help?
Sounds like you may have a harddrive issue. You are probably going to need to get that changed out and then install the OS X again to get it going.
