  • Mail Account Keeps Asking for Password

My new iPhone 4 is great, but after setting up my mail accounts it keeps periodically asking for the password for that account. I can receive mail, but can't send it out. I have entered the correct password a number of times - even confirming it on my laptop via keychain. Any suggestions???

    Kevin:
Did you fill in your password for outgoing mail as well? If you set up a smtp account via itunes sync, I found only the receiving email password was filled in. I had the same issue until I looked closer at the accounts set up and noticed that the outgoing mail password was empty. My .mac account was fine, but my other accounts all had the same empty sending password empty.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mail accounts keep going off line since Mountain Lion upgrade

My iCloud accounts keep going off line after a while. When Mail asks me if I want to take my accounts online (after pressing the exclamation triangle) nothing happens. The only way to get my accounts back online is to close and reopen Mail. Any thoughts?

It might be worth pointing out I get the error message "The server returned the error: The server “p04-imap.mail.me.com” cannot be contacted on port 993.".
I've tried having Use SSL checked and unchecked but it doesn't seem to help. The only thing that solves it is closing and reopening Mail.
Finally it would now appear that it only happens after the mac has been woken from sleep.

  • Mail accounts keep dis-enabling themselves

I have a MacPro lap top with a POP mail account & mobile me account, I use the built in mail programme to read mail. I have just set up an Imac with the same accounts as above and again, using mail to mange the accounts. Mobile me is also on the synch across all.
When I went into the laptop tonight I found that the mail accounts were not enabled, so I enabled them. Just logged into the Imac and the same thing, the accounts were not enabled.
Does this mean that i have to enable accounts on which ever machine I now use, that seems a bit weird to me as i would have thought they could live happily together. Any advice/ guidance gratefully received
    regards

First thing to do is to disable mail account syncing in System Preferences>MobileMe>Sync: this doesn't sync your messages, only the account settings, so you don't need it, and it might possibly be part of the problem.
If Mail tries to contact an account and fails, because of a break in connection or the server fails to respond, it will take the account offline (which is annoying because it won't try checking again until you notice it and put it back online) - though it will give you a warning sign which when clicked on should give an error message. If you wake a Mac from sleep and Mail happens to try to do an automatic check during the short period before the internet reconnects it will take all the accounts offline.

  • Why does my Yahoo and Facebook account keep resetting in the 2nd profile I created?

I have 2 profiles, one for my wife and one for me. When either of us in on profile 2, our Yahoo and Facebook accounts keep logging us out. I was just on Facebook writing a response to a friend and I get a "Your not logged in" message pop up and it logs me out. SO I go to my Yahoo account tab and it's telling me to "Sign in" after I was already signed in. This doesn't happen on profile 1. Have had this set up for years. It just started doing this recently (the few weeks). How can I fix this.

You can only log in to one profile at the time in a specific Firefox session.<br />
It doesn't help to open another window because you are still in the same session and use the same cookies from the first account you logged on to.
If this does happen with a second Firefox profile then you may have to check the connection settings used in that profile.

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if the "Use the system proxy settings" setting or one of the others doesn't work properly.

  • I want to delete all my existing mail accounts and reset

I have three mail accounts. I want to delete all these accounts and set up a new account. How do I do this?

Deleting all your accounts will Erase/Delete all your email in those accounts.
I may add that this is true, but "only" for mails stored on the Mac, not for the mails stored on the server.
So, if it's IMAP accounts, it should not matter unless mails have been moved to mailboxes "On My Mac". Really careful with POP accounts if the mails in there matter!
Anyway, at least archiving mails before deletion, or even better, a proper backup, is mandatory.

  • Old e-mail account keeps showing up when I reply to e-mail sent to active account

I deleted a hotmail e-mail account from my iPhone.  The reason that I deleted it was because sometimes when I replied to an e-mail sent to my aol or Time-Warner e-mail addresses (which were active on the phone), the e-mail would somehow show up to the recipient as having come from the old hotmail account.  Thus, when the other person replied, it went to the hotmail account instead of my aol or Time-Warner account.
Incredibly, even after I deleted the hotmail account from the phone, restarted it and did everything else that I could think of to be sure that it was gone, this still happens.  Here is an example:
    1.  I send an e-mail to a friend from my aol account.
    2.  The friend replies and I receive the e-mail in my aol account.
    3.  I reply back to the friend.  In the "from" box in the e-mail that my friend receives from me, it does not show the aol account, but instead the hotmail account.
    4.  When the friend replies, it goes to the hotmail account and not the account.
    5.  The only way that I become aware that the friend replied is by checking the hotmail account.
So the question is:  how do I get this to stop?

i already sign-out my account and sign in again but still when i update an app, wrong username will pop up..
"settings, itunes&app store, sign out username, re enter username"

  • Mail accounts keep going offline and then back on again

I am using Mail 4.4 on OS 10.6.6. I have 9 different email accounts in my inbox from 4 different domains. All the domains are hosted on a reseller account so they are all on the same server. Mail is scheduled to check mail every 5 minutes and each time alternating accounts go either on or offline. This behaviour also happens on my iphone 4 with IOS6 and ipad 2 with IOS5.
I am using the same setup and OS as I have been for the past year or so and it has been absolutely fine up until a few months ago. My ISP is being helpful and they have replicated the problem on one of their Macs but it doesn't happen on a PC. They are puzzled also.
I read somewhere that the mail app has a short time out where it takes the account offline if there is no response and that having all email accounts on the same server might cause this problem. Not sure if this is correct advice however.
I have turned off some of the accounts so that only 2 are in the inbox, its still happening but not as often. Anybody have any suggestions as its driving me mad.

My brother and mother are having the same problem. We all three are on SBC Yahoo! DSL and all share GoDaddy-based email addresses. I'm clearly on a different part of the SBC Network - as I have rarely had problems with mail accounts kicking me offline, whereas they have the same problem you do - accounts are random and inconsistent when they kick offline.
I've tried to research whether it's a GoDaddy, SBC or Mail issue. Thanks in advance!

  • Some Mail Perfernces keep reseting.

    Any ideas on this?
    1. Under preferences/accounts/ <my pop account>/advanced. Is a check box, 'Remove copy from server after retriving... I like to have this checked, and right away selected from the options below. The problem is it keeps unchecking itself in subsequent sessions letting read mail build up forever in my pop account.
    2. when I turn on additionall columns (such as 'mailbox') from the view menu they are only shown in the current mailbox being displayed. As soon as I switch to a different mailbox it reverts to the base settings.
It sounds like certain preferences aren't being saved, Bug, Feature, or Corruption?
    TIA!

  • My iCloud account keeps resetting my password. How can i reset all my Apple devices at once?

I have 8 devices to reset each time. It resets the password anywhere from 3 days up to 2 weeks. I getting a little much to keep doing this.

I have this same issue.  If you have had your Apple ID for a long time, there used to be a setting that indicated the frequency in which it would force a reset.  The switch to change that frequency is no longer part of the Apple ID management website.  I read online that calling Apple could help - that they would reset it for you.  I tried that a couple of months ago last time it happened. They told me that next time I should just put in the same password three times and it would all be over.  However, when I tried that tonight, it wouldn't accept a password which had been previously used.  Like you, I have a bunch of devices and an Apple TV - painful.

  • All of my mail accounts keep going and staying offline

Any ideas.  I've talked to two others who this is also happening...

I have been having the same problem for about the past 2 months using mail 4.4 on OS 10.6.6. Its been working fine for a couple of years without a hitch until now. I have about 10 different email addresses all hosted on the same reseller server. Each time there is a timed 'get mail' various accounts go offline and then come back online later, sometimes after a minute or so, some after an hour.
A similar thing is also happening on my iphone4 and ipad2 - 'mail server....... not responding'. This also seems to randomly alternate between various accounts.
My ISP has looked into it and cant find a problem but I think that this is because they cant replicate the problem. They suggested it might be a router/network issue but the problem still happens regardless of wifi being switched off. I have tried a Telnet test and all seems Ok.
Very frustrating as I sometimes have to wait for over an hour for an email to come in that is urgent.

  • Why do my Mail accounts keeping going offline since I switched to comcast?

I recently switched to Comcast. The ougoing mail for my new comcast accounts goies on and offline constantly all the time. It doesn't happen for my .mac account. I've tried changing the port to 465 or 587 but that doesn't make any difference. any ideas?

You will need to call Comcast and ask them exactly what settings they require; I've had multiple problems with them which were finally resolved when he told me to start using port 25 (but mentioned that that is not available everywhere and/or not widely used or something like that). I used to have to delete the Mail .plist and set up Mail again and again to the point that I made screenshots of all settings windows so I could just copy them if needed. Here is a screenshot of my outgoing (smtp) settings:
Again, this was at the direction of Comcast tech support. I believe they also now have a web page with instructions for Mac.
