hey guys I think a trojan was somehow let loose on my computer... And I think it's living in my email because no matter how many times I try to quit Mail, it won't quit. How do I kill this trojan?

Linc Davis has indicated how to Force Quit out of any application that is frozen.
For your Mail issue, try the following:
- Go to Software Update to apply the new update for Mail. Not sure, but there may be bug fixes in the new version.
- Go to Disk Utility (In Applications, Utilities) and run a Permissions Repair. Then do a restart of your computer.

Just last eek, the mail started generating an error message, when I try to access my sent items folder. I can receive and send emails but for reference of items that I have sent, I cannot access them as it says that 'mail quit unexpectedly'. Try rebuilding the mailbox.
To do that
1) Launch Mail,
2) Select the account
3) In the Mailbox menu, select Rebuild.

Mail I inherited an iMac, OS X 20.6.8. The Mail system is corrupted. I cannot close mail formats that opened to be written and sent. I just get an unpleasant noise when I try to close these. Also, I don't know what the outgoing mail link should be.

Quit Mail, Trash this file...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist

Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

There are no viruses for the iPad. Close the mail app and reboot the iPad.
Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the Mail app and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. I know the report is long. Please post all of it anyway.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and rarely helpful.

Mail won't come in unless restart "mail" each time. IMAP cox trying to setup new email addresses....connection doctor shows mail checked and 'light' is green but mail will not display until restarting. Okay, I solved the problem... FINALLY!!! Added "pop" to my email address when re-setting up account in Mail. This allowed me to set it up as a pop account and all works well!! Problem "Solved"!!

How long has it been going on? I've had my yahoo mess up and if i wait a bit it resolves itself. Yahoo is doing something with their servers and it messes with your mail if your mail happens to be on one of those servers.

If you just got your new MBP you have phone support from Apple (which is quite good) call them. 800-692-7753 tell the automated answerer "mail technical support" you'll have human quite quickly. Hope this helps.

Pop up box in yahoo mail won't close, asks "do you use the yahoo! toolbar on multiple computers?" has option buttons but no response when clicking on anything, pop up box just sits there in the way

whenever I open my yahoo mail when using Firefox, a pop up box appears on the upper left side of the screen, it asks the question "do you use the yahoo! toolbar on multiple computers?" and gives click boxes for "Save to my yahoo ID" and "No thanks, just save to this computer". I get no response to clicking on either box, nor will the pop up close if I click on the "X" in the upper right corner of this pop up. It won't close out and it sits right over the top of the email messages in my inbox. All else seems to work fine, but can't get rid of this pop up box....very annoying.
