My mouse stopped working. My MacBook Pro is not recognizing it. Not sure what to do.

My mouse is not working all of a sudden. I changed the batteries, the green light is flashing on the back of the mouse. I have clicked on the blue tooth icon, and clicked on ............mouse. I click connect nothing. I have clicked on Open Mouse Preferences, it says no mouse, it says No Mouse Found. I clicked on Turn on Blue Tooth, nothing. Can you help me?

You did it! I'm happy for you and you're welcome.

  • All Music & Videos stop working on Macbook Pro

I've had my 15" Macbook Pro for 6 months now. If my Macbook has been on for a while, at some point all media randomly stops working; when Quicktime tries to open a file it opens it partially and freezes at the "loading movie" sign. If iTunes is already open before this problem occurs, it will work fine, but if I close iTunes & try to open it again it will crash and I'll have to force quit it. Videos and music in web browsers such as Firefox and Safari either won't work or causes the browsers to crash. Along with this programs like Photobooth crash. The only hint I've got to what's going on is that when I open After Effects after all this happens it freezes upon opening whilst "initialising Media Core," and Sibelius does the same whilst "Initialising Playback System"
So I'm guessing there's something wrong with my Macbook Pro's "media core"/"playback system".
The only way to sort this problem out is to log out & log back in again, but after a while the same thing happens and all media stops working. Having to close all my applications to log out and log back in again can get really annoying. This problem started about a month or so ago and I have no idea what triggered it or how to fix it.
I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this sort of behaviour with their Mac and know how to fix it?
    Thank You.

I would try some basic repairs and see if that helps.
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job.
    After that Repair Permissions.
No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.

  • External monitor stopped working on Macbook Pro

I have a Macbook pro 15 with the vga adapter. I have been using it sucessfully for a month. Today it stopped working. I followed all of the suggestions online but have had no luck resolving this issue. The monitor works fine on my sony laptop but the Mac cannot see it. I have unplugged the adapter, shut down, turned on and plugged it back in as recommended. I tried a different monitor and i have simply restarted the machine with the adapter plugged in. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys.

    Try Reset SMC.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, you have to take the MBP to the Apple store for evaluation.
You have 90 days of free tech support from AppleCare from the date of purchase.

  • HP All in One mx8500 stopped working with MacBook Pro

So I have a MacBook Pro and a small Sony Vaio (that I seldom use) and both were configured to the HP when I brought it home.  I have used it almost exclusively as a wiresless with good results until one day it stopped working with the MacBook Pro.  MacBook is operating on Snow Leopard and is routinely updated.  The HP simply does not recognize the MacBook any longer-won't print from it nor won't scan to it.  It doesn't give an error message, it just pauses and when I tell it to resume, it pauses again.  I have tried using it with the wire to connect the two and that doesn't work either.  All this time, if I switch to the Sony, it performs perfectly.  Any hints???

    Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
    Reset the printing system:
    - Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
    - Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Notification center stops working on Macbook pro 17 late 2011

I had several problems with Mountain Lion on Macbook pro 17 late 2011 model.
    #1 Notification center stopped updating
#2 Worst battery backup had dropped significantly , it appears that the laptop needs to be plugged in to the socket at all time. Current backup is around 2 hours.

85w apple charger stops charging the Mac
I think your assumption that when the amber light goes out, the magsafe is malfunctioning is not correct.
Some users have observed that if you push your Big MacBook Pro as hard as you can, it needs all the power from the power adapter (and possibly more from the battery) just to keep running. Thus, the charge indicator on the magsafe will go off Amber. This is weird, but is not a malfunction.

  • Thunderbolt has stopped working with macbook pro

Thunderbolt display paired to macbook pro and working fine.
Turned off Macbook to go portable.  When returned home plugged n Thunderbolt to Mac - there is no activity at all on Thunderbolt display.  No changes to set up were made.
    Any suggestions?

I've the same set-up as you have and I'm not having the problem that you describe... 90% of the time I'm at my desk with the Thunderbolt Display plugged in and 10% of the time I'm running on battery.
The only thing that I can think of is that - possibly - you're plugging in the Thunderbolt cable before you plug in the power supply cable? If it's not that then I would contact Apple Support.
    Good luck,

  • My Y, U, I, O, P  keys stop working 2012 MacBook Pro

Hi there.  I'm having a very frustrating time with a MacBook Pro.  After about 20-25 minutes use, the Y, U, I, O, P keys become very unresponsive and then after about 30 minutes they do not work at all.
I then have to power down the MacBook for an hour or so before they will start working again.
Can anybody suggest how I can fix this issue?
    Lee

"It does not seem to be hardware related, but seems to be associated with the software and auto correction or something like that. "
So see if you can go to an earlier OS or Time Machine backup prior to the update.
Otherwise here's an analysis I did of a keyboard failure of those exact keys.
Here's a picture of the traces on the upper membrane which is why it's a mirror image.
You can see how all the keys are interconnected such that a failure of the "E, R, T, Y"  trace would cause the entire set of keys to go down.
The interconnecting trace is about .5 mm wide so the tiniest anything will cause problems.
Here's a picture of corrosion on a trace that was causing an intermittent problem:
and here's a very enlarged of the contractor area of an "S" key that was driving me nuts. It would automatically add an "s"  at random times. Sometimes it would just start typing "sssssss" while the curser was just parked on a line.
The tiny hair was what was causing the problem. It would take closer examination to determine if it was a metal fragment or an ordinary hair. (We have a cat.)
I would need a microscope stage and a nano probe to determine if it was resistive (conductive) or not.

  • Msft ent desktop 7000 works with Macbook Pro 10.5.8 but not mini 10.6.1

I just purchased a Mac Mini with 10.6.1. I'm using it as an entertainment system hooked up to my 60 inch plasma. I bought a Microsoft Bluetooth Entertainment Desktop 7000 keyboard and mouse. i like the keyboard and it all works except for the integrated trackpad. At first i thought it was because it wasn't fully Mac compatible but when I tried it on my Macbook Pro 10.5.8 the trackpad worked fine.
    Any suggestions??

    Hi,
This is a guess: The MacBook Pro has a built-in trackpad, while the Mac Mini doesn't. Maybe it's missing a driver. When you have it connected to your MacBook Pro, try to look at your "Trackpad" system preference. Does that exist on your Mini? Also, try comparing the System Profiler outputs, especially concerning your USB.
It makes it a little more challenging when your systems aren't both the same OS level :-D, so some things will be different between the two systems just due to the OS levels.

  • Remote control stopped working on MacBook Pro

I have two MacBokk Pros (2008 and 2011), with two remote controls that worked fine and interchangeable until about a week ago. Now both remotes work only on the older one of our computers, but not on the newer one. I have looked into the Security prefs panel, "Disable Infrared Receiver" is unchecked, "this computer will work with any available remote control" is shown underneath - everything look like it was before.
Holding "Menu" and "Fast Forward" to pair the remote produces no results after 5 seconds or more.
I also did the the "iSight test" mentioned elsewhere in this forum, the batteries in both remotes are fine and sending a signal.
That leads me to suspect there might be a problem with the infrared receiver. But is that a hardware or software issue and what should be done next, considering that I'm about 200 miles from the next Apple store?

Thank you! Yes, I've seen this troubleshooting page and followed those suggestion, that's where I also found the remote control battery test mentioned above.

  • Satellite Pro A300 - After standby the mouse stops working

    Hi all,

    I have 2 problems:
When computer goes on standby and I start it backup - the mouse stops working, unless i move it to another usb-port. I get a message aswell about usb can perform faster...
Another problem is a program freezing at this point aswell, this program is Oracle JDeveloper, do not know if this has any relevance??
I have tried updating EVERY driver from toshibas webpage- theese problems still occur...
    Please help!
    Would rather not format again...!

    Hi
Can you please tell us what Windows 7 version you have installed? I mean if you have 32bit or 64bit.
Is this right that you are using an external mouse?
Does the touchpad work after standby mode? If yes I think its something wrong with the external mouse maybe.
By the way: Make sure that you are using newest BIOS version. You can find it on the Toshiba page.
And regarding the Oracle question I think you should contact the Oracle support directly. ;)

  • Mac wireless mouse left click not working on macbook pro laptop

I think I found a couple of solutions, but they have been temporary,,,,would welcome more ideas.
it happens when I travel. when you switch Wifi connections in different locations.
all of a sudden the left click on the mouse stops working, and you can only right click.
these are the only things that have worked so far to correct the issue:
    rebooting (not always works)
hitting the escape key (worked at first)
making sure the mouse batteries are not low, and that no other track pads are interfering with it…(works sometimes)
the last fix was right clicking on the apple and putting it to sleep.  then return by hitting escape and the problem was fixed (at least for now)
this happens all the time now, especially when I switch wifis….
    c

Mystery solved! The one thing I did not try was to actually print... which works! Even while the Mac OS X W-Fi icon still shows the 'connecting' animation or the 'problem' exclamation mark.
Possibly Mac OS X just signals that the Wi-Fi does not connect to the internet or the likes. The Wi-Fi connection per se does work, also with password and with IPv6 enabled.

  • Bluetooth mouse stops working when adding a printer: 10.10.2

    Hi,
I'm using a MacBook Pro 2012 Retina, upgraded to 10.10.2.  Since upgrading to 10.10.2 I have been unable to connect to my Canon MG6150 that is plugged into the USB port of the Time Capsule (3TB).  Those problems will be detailed in a separate post.
I have tried deleting the printer and creating a new printer and when I click on the + and get the window to select a printer, the bluetooth mouse stops working - the message comes up to show "Connection Lost".  I have to select the printer manually and only when I have returned to the main Printer window in Settings & Preferences does the mouse connection work again.
Weird.  Between this and not being able to set up the scanning features again (that used to work), I'm feeling underwhelmed...

sounds like an IRQ conflict. See if disabling plug and play in the bios solves it. Arch's kernel provides this already.

Try booting in Safe Mode by holding your Shift key down when booting. Also, try holding the eject key down when booting to eject the DVD. If you plug a mouse in and hold the clicker down when booting, that should eject the DVD.
