My old computer crashed. I was able to connect its old hard drive as an external drive to my new computer. I would like to recover all my old bookmarks (there was no prior backup on the old drive).

Is there a file in which bookmarks are stored which I may copy from the old drive to the new one to restore the old bookmarks? Thanks!
(I still have the original Firefox files on the old hard drive, including the one I presume contains all my old bookmarks.)

You're welcome.

  • I was able to download library books to read on iphone 4s.  I have overdrive app and would like to download audiobooks from the library.

Please advise.  I have iphone 4s and downloaded Overdrive app to obtain audiobooks from library. I am able to download books as content for reading, but have not been able to successfully figure out how to download audiobooks.  Is it possible to download audiobooks via overdrive from a library and if so how?
    Thank you

When you select a book you need to choose the audiobook version and not the ebook version. You have downloaded ebooks in the past.

Ok so sorry for clogging the community!! I figured it out - you have to copy your videos into itunes manually. I did that, synched and all good!

  • I have transferred my itunes library to an external drive. I then attached the external disk to a new computer. I can now access all songs from the new computer. But I can't access playlists. I can still  access all songs and playlists on the old computer

If you right mouse and select Get info it will show you the Apple ID used to purchase these songs.
Usually the name of an apple id is based on the email. So knowing that you may have forgotten the Apple ID password.
You can request a new password here http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/

  • We just received our new mac and took it to the store to have the old files from our last computer transferred over.  Now we can't find all our files.  There was more then one user on the old machine.  How can we find the files from the other users?

We need to find where the files for the other user on the computer are now located.  There were two other users on the old machine, which was taken into the store and ALL files were suppose to be transferred over to this computer. HELP!

It appears what happened is the installer though it was looking at a empty drive and just went ahead and installed.
I of course am assuming here you didn't use Disk Utility to format the drive first before installing, that would wipe out your files and programs for sure.
So what to do, what to do.
Well there is hope for you as long as the drive wasn't Filevaulted.
I'll explain. When a hard drive writes data for the first time to a drive, it starts at the very top and works it's way down.
When OS X was installed the first time, it was at the top of the drive, unless you upgraded then the upgraded OS X could have been written elsewhere.
Now when you just reinstalled OS X, the new OS went on the top of the drive, overwriting any data that was there previously, so what was there you have lost forever which is about 8GB or so. If it was the previous OS there, then your more in luck because only the old OS X was overwritten.
The remaining space on the drive still can have a copy of your files, provided it's not overwritten yet.
It's because when a hard drive deletes data or reformats, it doesn't remove the data off the drive or overwrites it immediately, it's just made so it's SPACE is available for new files to be written there.
So technically one can recover the deleted data off a non-encrypted/scrubbed hard drive with special software.
The way it does this is it reads the 1's and 0's of the files themselves, and through a lot of figuring out, can tell what that file is and what it belongs too.
So what you will have to do is this:
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
or if you don't have the skills, then take it to a local PC/Mac tech and they can do a direct image of the drive and then you can run Data Rescue on it to rebuild your files.

  • I did a backup from my 3G and want to get the backup now on my iPhone 4, but the backup from the old 3G is not shown as an option to configurate. How do I get the information on my new phone?

I did a backup from my 3G and want to get the backup now on my iPhone 4, but the backup from the old 3G is not shown as an option to configurate. How do I get the information on my new phone?

First, back up your old iphone manually:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your old phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

How to back up and restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
How to download apps for free again:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
After that, connect your new phone and let iTunes set it up. iTunes will detect the old 3G backup and ask you, if you want to use it to restore the info on your new iphone. If you agree, all settings and data will be present after the process is finished.
This is also explained in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137

  • HT5096 New TM doesn't recognised backups on the old TM clone - can you help?

Using the helpful advice on this discussion board, I partitioned my new drive, then cloned the existing TimeMachine drive onto the smaller partition and set the larger partition as my new Time Machine drive in TM preferences. I then backed up and it worked fine.
However my problem is that it is not recognising the prior backups in the other partition which I thought it would.
    Can I fix this?
If not, and if I wanted to access the older Time machine info, could I just change the TM drive in preferences to the other partition and access it that way?
    Thanks

That setup is a mess. If you want an easy access to your old data, just make one volume with all the Time Machine backups, so your Mac will be backed up in the same volume as your old data.
Anyway, you have already done that. You can access to your old Time Machine backup by two ways:
    1. Setting up Time Machine to back up on the volume with your old backups, and then, just access to Time Machine app in order to access to the old data.
    2. Manually: open Finder, select the volume with your old backups in the Finder sidebar and navigate through your backups until you find the data you want to recover.
Try the first one, and remember to change the Time Machine backup disk after accessing to your old data. If not, your Mac will back up to the volume with the old backups

No. Only those Apps that are not installed on the new will migrate over.

I've got a  MacBook Pro 1TB HD, the drive was damaged (probably dropped) after I formatted the new drive I was able to get the OSi onto the drive and it's now up and running..But prior to removing the old HD I was able to run CloneZilla to map the drive. The problem I'm having is getting the files and documents back on the new HD.
I created a folder on the desk top and moved all the files and docs onto it, ( files / docs was originally burnt on a DVD ).  I'm not sure A) how to open the specific files B) which files to extract C) Is it as simple as drag and drop...
Hope you're able to understand my problem and offer some suggestions, in advance thank you for your time and effort...

    Hi, Steve -
Yes, the CD-ROM drive must be jumpered as Master in order for it to be bootable.
Your G4 (PCI) should have two built-in IDE buses - one is usually assigned to the CD-ROM and Zip drives, and the other is used for hard drives. If you have the hard drive connected to the same bus as the one the CD-ROM is on, try switching the hard drive to the other bus.
Set the hard drive's jumpers as Master.
Exception - if the hard drive is a Western Digital, it may have a third position, Single, which must be used when the drive is the only device on the bus.
Note - Cable Select jumper settings will not work on a G4 (PCI).
    Edit - -
Startup Manager, which is what booting with Option held down invokes, is not available on a G4 (PCI).

Firewire Target Disk Mode is limited on a G4 (PCI) - it can be the Host machine, but not the Target machine.

i am changing from an iphone 3G to an iphone 3GS and i was not offered an option to restore the new device from a backup of the old device - how do i reset the new device to allow me restore the data from the old one to the new one?

Go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings.  This will return it to its new out of the box condition.  Go through the setup screens again and you will be given the option to restore from a previous iTunes or iCloud backup (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109).
